Tuvok doesn’t let T’Pel touch the blocks but he gave her a little hair pin and she’s content to watch.

I love Tuvok and Neelix so dearly, their relationship is truly adhd/autism hostility at it's finest and it is gorgeous.
It's very similar to the relationship between Odo and Quark just less crime and gray morals

voyager high school au
i feel like we as a species are really missing an important angle on this much-abused trope.
usually high school aus take our current, fully developed characters and de-age them into teenage equivalents (tuvok is captain of the chess team, harry is in all AP classes but is somehow a freshman forever, seven demolishes at quiz bowl and "steals" the class president's prom date at the last minute because she hasn't realized that lesbianism is an option, etc).
however, if you have to send them to high school, i think it would be much funnier if we imagine them as they canonically were as teens.
--
janeway is an admiral's daughter who stormed off after losing a tennis match and dramatically walked home like 5 miles in the rain. you just know that if she got a 98 out of 100 on a project (still solidly an A+!) she would go up after class to argue the two point deduction. she might actually be the class president, but idk if the other kids are happy about it.
chakotay is a sullen, angsty kid who hates his dad, hates his tribe, and just wants to go to junior college and never set foot on the rez again. so many internalized things to unpack. this boy is a mess
Passion Punk™️ tuvok canonically got kicked out of the house for saying that everything his dad believes in fuckin sucks
b'elanna also thinks her culture of origin fuckin sucks. child of ugly divorce, regularly suspended for brawling. she may have gotten sent to klingon religious school to scare her straight at one point? i gotta look that up but i'm pretty sure it happened
like janeway, tom is also an admiral's kid. everyone says he has sooooo much potential but he spends all his time crying in his room and reading jules verne
seven is in a massively abusive cult. this one's not funny at all ☹️
harry is the best adjusted out of everyone. great relationship with his parents, probably has had the same girlfriend since eighth grade (who is also well-adjusted). youth orchestra. early decision to harvard. i typed out "voted most likely to succeed," but that's definitely wrong, because it would be tom out of nepotism or janeway out of grit (and nepotism). if it were a category though, teenage harry would be voted "most likely to just have a nice life."
kes is the smartest kid in her grade but you would never know it because she just hangs out with the hippie kids in the woods behind the school, eating moss off trees and planning to run away from home
all we really know about neelix's pre-war childhood is that he had a huge loving family. i'm extrapolating here from the skills and attitude he has as an adult, but when i transpose this into a modern high school AU, i imagine his parents running the local diner and letting all of neelix's loser friends (see the rest of this list) eat there for free.
the doctor sprang into being as an adult so i'm not sure what to do here. you could argue that he was kind of a canonical teenager in season one, in which case he's that autistic kid who everyone remembers showing up to kindergarten with a briefcase and a full suit, having already memorized A thru G in the world book. somehow you never really see him anywhere except on school grounds. this year's special interest is opera.
vorik is also there.

Tuvok:
Tumblr media
Ok, first off: real world standards, he's not normal passing. Apart from the ears, he's just too autistic (sorry, "Vulcan" 🙄) to be considered "normal looking". He went to 1990s earth once and Did Not Pass as normal. But in universe, he would on the surface seem like a model Vulcan. And he is, kinda. But he's also so gd weird. (/aff)
Not even gonna get into how badly he wants to be Will Graham because obviously that's there too but we don't have all day. Anyway.
Obvs the emotions struggle is real as it is for any Vulcan worth paying attention to, if only because they were all only ever written by humans.
But also, tangential to him being Will Graham coded (but still separate enough) he is a total mind slut. You know how some characters will go "when I have a problem, I set it on fire" or shit like that? When Tuvok has a problem, he mind melds with it. Homoerotically if it's an option. Dude even got a mind std one time, despite the fact that's not even a thing.
And then whatever the fuck kinda thing he has going on with Janeway. Not even necessarily in a shippy way ("not romantic, not platonic, so devoted the lines blur") but like... not only is he unreasonably loyal to her but he does shit like not only letting her touch him whenever she wants but *deliberately offering her HIS HAND to hold* to comfort her when she needs it (reminder that hand touching is very intimate to Vulcans and can be likened to human kissing) and again, they're never even stated as romantic or anything, they're just friends and yet he is more loyal to her than he is to his own code of ethics.
Obviously part of all of it could be because Janeway (or possibly Kate Mulgrew) is simply Like That, she does do shit like tell her platonic subordinate "then be a good rat and find us the cheese" in a tone that makes me lose it, but it's not all her, Tuvok is also extremely not normal about it. I should submit Janeway too actually, I'll do her next.
Also, afaik Tuvok is the only crew member of Voyager (who makes it back) who had a romantic partner before the ship got lost in the Delta quadrant and remained loyal the entire seven years they were lost. I *think* Samantha Wildman also did but she's a minor character (so she could've been getting it off screen) and she started out pregnant so once born Naomi both kept her busy and was a living reminder of her husband's love. So in that regard, Tuvok is very much not normal but like in the most positive way. He literally didn't cheat on his wife even when his life was in danger (they *were* out there for seven years so of course he hit pon farr eventually) and I think that's really cool of him. But also very not normal.
I'm very tired rn but once the polls come out, simply check out the blog of Bea @bumblingbabooshka (wanna clarify, I'm not him but he is THE Tuvok blogger in my opinion) who has written much on this already.
There's also the whole stuff that happened around his monestary era but I'm not even at that part yet but it must've been wild.
Anyway. Vote Tuvok
Janeway:
Tumblr media
- will literally martyr herself at the drop of a hat
- will kill you if she thinks it's what she needs to do for her crew
- will not kill you if she thinks you've got residue humanity after decades as a borg drone even though realistically she really should've (tho ofc we're all glad she didn't)
- will violate your personal rights if she thinks you're not "human" enough and also compare you to a replicator (yes I'm still salty about that. wait what was the question? right, i'll get back on track)
- will say absolutely deranged shit like "then be a good rat and find us the cheese" in the a tone that makes me lose my mind and basically give everyone a crush on her (and also mommy issues) if they spend too long in her vicinity, leading to a very loyal crew
- her solution to having a crush on a fictional character was to delete his wife (very relatable but also very not normal)
- she wanted to watch hot Q on Q sex (possibly for scientific reasons) and looked very disappointed when it was severely underwhelming
- WHO brings a bathtub on a spaceship???
- there's more but y'know

My parents have been watching voyager a lot lately, and I know it's one that gets a lot of hate but I highly recommend it because Captain Janeway is competant, hot, and bold. Also the principal from icarly is Tuvok and he's great. Seven of nine is an autistic queen and I get a little bit gayer everytime I look at her tbh
I honestly never got into Voyager though I watched a decent chunk of it - love Janeway tho 😍 You'll be happy to know that Seven is canonically queer and has a girlfriend in one of the modern shows !!

various tos/tng/ds9/voy/ent "spock" type characters and whether they could hang out with cas.
tos:
spock: could not hang out with cas. they would have nothing to talk about and also, despite being gay, spock is homophobic.
tng:
i'm gonna save tng for last because these are the most interesting answers.
ds9:
odo: they would get along fine, but i think odo would get bored talking to cas. also, cas is a serial killer, and not fun or mysterious about it.
there are a number of other characters on ds9 you could claim as a spock in various ways, but imo the only one who merits inclusion here is julian bashir, who imo isn't really a spock, his closest srchetypal compatriot is like, tom paris, but i think he bears mention anyway.
julian bashir: he would get bored with cas. julian likes people he can solve, or chase, or win approval from. failing that, he likes people who will unreservedly adore him and think he's the coolest guy ever when he shows off how clever he is. cas is not the guy.
voy:
tuvok: i think tuvok would be glad to hang out with someone who isn't bullying him for once, and also i doubt tuvok is homophobic because it's like a hundred and fifty years after tos, but they don't have much in common, and also imo tuvok is a genuine loner, not just awkward, so he wouldn't really wanna hang out too much, especially since he doesn't already know cas. cas is a lot more social and would feel kind of rejected by tuvok's lack of interest.
seven: they don't have much in common on the surface, but more importantly the things they do have in common are so overarchingly horrible and miserable that if they actually had a serious talk they would both have breakdowns.
the emh: they would get along like a house on fire at first because cas has a lot of patience and the emh will hang out with anyone as long as they'll pay attention to him, but even cas has limits.
voy has other arguable spocks but i'm going to stick with these three.
ent:
i don't remember super well because i watched it all when i was like ten years old and i've only seen sporadic episodes since then.
t'pol: if cas could get her to open up to him he would enjoy hearing about her many issues. on the other hand, she is homophobic. you win some you lose some.
phlox: they would have a fun little time together! cas could learn the names of all of phlox's pets!
if there's other spocks on ent i don't remember them.
tng, for real this time:
data: i think data would murder cas. i think cas would drive data absolutely up the wall batshit crazy. because the think about cas is he's like data, but he's stupid. he's bad at it. data pours all of his energy into being 110% palatable and charming and entertaining at all times. he's a living party trick desperate for human approval, and he's also always carefully and machiavellianly calculating everything he does socially to both perform palatability and accomplish his goals. and then along comes cas who is like, also autistic, but dumb, and bad at compensating, and making data look bad by comparison. i think data would Kill.
worf: i think they could genuinely be like, friends. like the thing about worf is that he is very lonely and wants to spend time with people but the social activities he likes engaging in are sitting in the same room silently reading books together, sitting in the same room silently listening to opera together, silently exercising in the same room together, sparring, and excitedly explaining/participating in his special interests. cas would enjoy all of these things, and worf would respect him and value him in return. cas also, by being kind to worf and treating him like a person (rare), would unlock secret perks like occasional extremely awkward but sincere affection. also cas can definitely beat worf in single combat which is a perk for worf generally speaking and would start them off on a positive note.
