I’m fairly against “Left Unity” as a concept. The conversations overlap very heavily with discussions of infighting. I *do* have comrades of various affiliations that I am not a part of. I *can* work with people whose ideologies I’m not very compatible with. Hell, part of being an anarchist is taking issue with the ideologies of other anarchists. Working together short term on common goals with likeminded enough people is crucial, but the framing of “Left Unity” is so flawed.
There is a pervasive idea that if you have a similar want you should “put aside your differences” and just like your favorite movie, the enemy of my enemy is my bestie and we work together and defeat evil. This simplistic idea allowed Boog Boys to be considered comrades. Allows cults to take center stage in organizing spaces. Allows people to protect abusers. And folks who take issues with aligning with fash, protecting abusers, taking things in dangerous directions are cop jacketed. Oh, you are being divisive? Clearly you are an op.
There is wholeheartedly fighting over hypothetical post-revolution societies that have no bearing on the now, but to a point, what groups want for the future DOES impact now. No, I don’t want to work with groups of communists who want to “purge” anarchists, because they dox people when they get annoyed over petty shit. No, I don’t want to work with groups who will eagerly throw the most disenfranchised among us under the bus to secure crumbs from the establishment. No, I don’t want to work with groups who want to work with the cops. No, I don’t want to work with groups who are comfortable working with fash because ‘we can sort it out later.’
I want the abolition of the state. So I can work on short term goals with people who want to reform the state, but eventually, (and not too far into the future) it becomes a problem. Of course people who are anti-hierarchy will take issue with people who want to organize as a power-grab. Of course people who want to reimagine the police will be looked at with suspicion by those seeking abolition.
So much that is labeled “infighting” is fundamental differences that will get people killed. Some red fash set up a table at an anarchist bookfair and someone flipped over their table. Their response? Call the cops. At a protest someone chopped up some bricks on the sidewalk to throw at cops and liberals in the crowd performed a citizens arrest and dragged him to the cop line to turn him in. Someone who got sexually harassed by a ‘leader’ in organizing spaces spoke out about it, so the leader told people she was a cop, and at a protest where shit went south, everyone boxed her out and tried to isolate her, putting her in danger. Boogs invited into organizing spaces have helped to dox leftists. Authcoms jerking off to the Russian invasion have tried to sell out folks in organizing spaces. RevCom is a literal cult. PSL protects abusers and smears people who come forward. Black Hammer is wildly and violently antisemitic.
Differences in fundamental values and risks to safety that people prioritize is not petty infighting or childish divisiveness. It’s not as simple as “we hate the cops so anyone who hates the cops is my friend”, it’s not as simple as “I want systemic change so anyone who wants systemic change we can set aside our differences”. If the “differences” includes setting aside your core tenets of your beliefs that is not unity, that is not an alliance.
I do not ally with people who want to sell out the “undesirables” among us. I do not ally with people who will put people at risk the moment they are challenged. I do not ally with people who want to be the oppressor instead of the oppressed.
I have comrades of so many backgrounds and with so many different ideologies and so many different goals, but we have similar core values. The idea that the left is aligned by similar values is a dangerous blanket assumption.
Fuck “left unity”, more small collectives working together towards liberation.

Not to be that guy who jumps into the asks of anyone who mentions authcoms lmao but I think it's best to analyze authoritarian communism first and foremost by what elements it consists of, rather than exclusively what people opine about various countries' implementation of it.
Personally speaking, I find the "dictatorship of the proletariat" to be a ghoulish concept that is so vulnerable to subversion and institutionalized abuse that it more often than not results in the type of tyranny most anticommunists (perhaps unfairly, perhaps not) associate with 20th century communist states. I don't consider myself an anticommunist by a long shot, but I also don't trust many western countries to form working class authoritarian bodies because "the working class" is a class made up of individuals with their own cultures, religions, and traditions, not a homogenized slurry of poor people with no interests, biases, or faults outside of that. There are a lot of authcoms that, frankly, fucking terrify me, and will immediately jump to pretty awful takes (such as discourse surrounding the invasion of Ukraine) in order to defend old alligences to formerly communist countries. I would be unable to have solidarity with these people.
Again, sorry to be "that guy" lmfao
no its ok, i appreciate the response :D im always receptive to discussion!
i hadnt thought abt analyzing authcom by its elements, i think thats interesting. id love to read analysis like that, im not sure im smart (= informed) enough to do that stuff on my own hgffgdhgf
the thing abt the dictatorship of the proletariat? yeah that makes so much sense. ive always been weirded out by the anti-"identity politics" bullshit ive seen some leftists spew, where they claim that the only significant identity anyone should have is their class, and all of this intersectional feminism stuff is a distraction from that hgfdhfgfhgfhgj like. Way to be ignorant and dismissive of real racial/gender/etc dynamics that matter immensely in the current system. thats how we get all these old white commies who claim to be for the proletariat and then are incredibly misogynistic towards working class women lmaooo
like i do believe that class privilege trumps everything else for the upper class. we see it over and over again w marginalized ppl turning into fiscally conservative shitbags the moment they get rich, and suddenly the only activism they believe in is the kind that helps them get richer (girlboss shit)
liberals w zero understanding of class politics are always so confused when some non-white/LGBT/etc rich person goes hard for the republicans, and its not at all surprising if you consider the fact that class privilege is the only thing that matters to the bourgeoisie.
also honestly as much as i despite "anti-communism", i fucking haaaate those pro-soviet tankies who simp for russia at any given chance. i guess if i wanna learn less biased info abt the soviet politics, i should look into non-tankie communists talking abt it 🤔 at least then i know its not just some authright misinfo campaign

tell me what funny territory is! :O - simplepotatofarmer
OKAY SO the Territory r a group of streamers (13 of them) who mostly esp now play on the WeedSMP though they have other projects like the Skyblock, Perseverance, and the Meaning of Life series and the occasional group speedrunning bit
They get philosophical a lot (SPatMoL series I linked is a good point abt like, How) and they were a friend group before they started streaming :D Their recurring shtick is as you can tell from their carrd that they're authcoms and they're Bringing Authcommunism to various video game lobbies including the WSMP
The WSMP is actually where they got their name; they came on as a group and established a certain territory as their HQ for the spread of authcommunism and well. Named their claimed territory The Territory (it was mostly ofholyclockwork's fault)
The characters are ALL about political intrigue; there's a lot of monologuing and their builds can get varying degrees of insane. They take RP real hardcore like, they have actually locking rooms in their facilities this is like Pandora's Vault tier and beyond and when they have secret locations they take opsec about those INCREDIBLY seriously
Also and this is evry important to How they're authcoms: all their builds which are. Yk very intimidating Pandora's Vault And Beyond core, they have a very intentionally ominous looking HQ with a bunch of fakeout and actual rooms, etc? They refer to that HQ in character as "home." Like, with insane sincerity. All The Time. Also this (which comes second to Clockwork's “Iron. Iron. Iron. Iron. Please, God, iron– ...oh. ,,,thank you, God. That was MEKHANE coming in clutch. ‘Praise be’ in the chat.” as Territory Moments Ever
They've had arcs abt infighting scattering and coming back together and they played a big role in the Minecraft Hague when they went on trial for shit they'd done before; currently there's a bit of a lull in the lore having just come off the Occupy Weedstreet arc which is hilarious bc they've been an authoritarian government this Whole Time and then the second even the facsimile of American capitalism rears its head they just become a protest group it's great
