ok but c!niki and mlp… what kind of pony would she be? would she and wilbur be different types?
hi anon so um. i may have done a little too much thinking on this one
Tumblr media
to ACTUALLY answer your question - i think c!niki would be an earth pony (a kind of draft pony, if we're getting into specifics) and c!wilbur would be a unicorn!
a few diff versions under the cut

brrrr rainduo hunger games au
mad shoutouts to bee, beans, daisy and cherry for hopping on the rainduo hunger games bandwagon kdhkdjd
okay so nonnie i have a bit of hunger games knowledge (have watched the first two movies with some pals in the last month, various clips on youtube, etc) so i decided to take this one to my friends in clout farm to bounce some ideas around. niki and wil as tributes? niki as a tribute and wil as an estranged old friend who won the games five years ago and then was swallowed up by the capitol? two coworkers in the world's worst subminimum wage job? then bee comes in with the sledgehammer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for everyone else who also thought oh god i need to google that: avoxes are rebels, traitors or deserters who had their tongues cut out as punishment, and are forced into servitude by the capitol.
alright so. wilbur and niki are two kids in district 12 in the midst of a potential regime change - and they're kids, around ten and fourteen each. to-be-president schlatt is shoving around president dream and it almost seems like this might be a window for change, something wilbur is so passionate about
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then that wrong person overhears, and wilbur is gone.
niki assumes that wilbur is dead. (and tries not to think about how he got taken, because of nothing more than sheer bad luck, and she didn't.) it's awful, but seven years pass and she does her best to cope with it. and then her name is called at the reaping, when she is seventeen years old.
niki has absolutely zero intention of playing along with the games - she thinks they're horrible, just another way for the capitol to terrorise the people of the districts, even if she's learned by now the consequences of actually saying that out loud. she meets her mentor, jack - a year younger than she is, district 12's only remaining victor. he came out of the coal pits at thirteen, with just enough charisma and confidence to win over the sponsors and just enough grit to outlive every other tribute in his games, despite his age.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
unfortunately for jack, niki is stubborn as hell when she makes her choices, and she's chosen not to play. fuck the capitol - fuck acting as their entertainment while they burn her entire fucking world down. fuck smiling how they want her to and acting sweet. why should she? she should she, when they've ripped her away from everything she had to lose? niki can hold her own, but not like this - and if she is going to go to her death, she refuses to act pretty about it.
and then she encounters wilbur.
it's one of the dinners for the tributes - one of the early ones, right after they're paired off with their stylists (niki doesn't entirely know what to make of hbomb, who asks her what colour hair dye she'd prefer in one breath and then lays out the most cynical, how-to-get-ahead guide to the games in the second, and then exalts the benefits of a kitty ear motif in the third) but before the interviews and grading. they're eating the fanciest food niki has seen in what is probably her entire life, although it tastes like nothing more than ash in her mouth, and pouring the tributes and their mentors glasses of expensive wine - never mind that almost all the tributes are underage, because when else will they get the chance to drink, hey? niki is still silently fuming, pushing her food around her plate and refusing the sixth damn offer to refill her wine glass and she finally looks up and behind the mask he's wearing, behind the unrecognisable silence, behind seven years of thinking one of her best friends had been horribly killed (and being entirely unable to process that fact) - she sees wilbur.
she immediately asks, wilbur? - not that he responds, and now hbomb and jack are giving her weird looks as hbomb informs her it's just an avox and jack goes oh, yeah, they don't have them in the districts, but -
none of their words matter, because half of niki is solidly trapped in this space between reality and dreams and her worst nightmare - she's only able to pull her shit together once jack has dragged them all back to the district 12 tribute spaces, and gives her the whole spiel about what an avox is, and by extension, what happened to wilbur.
niki is horrified. to think she mourned for all those years, and wilbur was alive - not just alive, but mutilated and tortured at the hands of the capitol. niki didn't think she could become more furious, more enraged with them. she was wrong.
the problem now, then - if niki wants to help wilbur, actually help him, she has to play. she has to win.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(and yes, she does set the forest on fire. she has to win, after all, doesn't she?)
this post is getting so so long so i am putting some more miscellaneous thoughts about The World and more details about niki's games under the cut ⚔️
okay so dream WAS president but was overthrown by schlatt in a "peaceful transfer of power". this was around when niki and wil were 10/14 each - and naturally uprising resulted in a peacekeeper crackdown in the districts, leading to wilbur's capture and arrest :(
Tumblr media
2. haven't really nailed down other tributes in niki's reaping (i'm already handwaving the guy from district 12. he doesn't exist to me he is stock image steve) besides uhh ranboo who niki makes brief friends/allies with and then dies horribly. i was thinking aimsey and guqqie because from what i've seen of their content they love a tragedy? but yeah idk
3. sam is the gamemaker for this arena! he was a former victor and has decided to use this knowledge in the worst way possible.
Tumblr media
quackity is Also a gamemaker (young upstart with no experience yet in the arena or out of it) and they have terrible workplace drama. is he hooking up with the president? i will not say yea or nay.
4. rest easy in the knowledge that, as a servant to the capitol, wilbur got to see on live television the moment niki was reaped :']
Tumblr media
5. niki does, in fact, win the games - by the skin of her teeth. while she is so full of fury at the capitol, i feel like she'd Actually kill like, one career and then feel Extremely ill about it. unfortunately, she has too much on the line to lose. this isn't just about surviving, or going home - she needs to get herself and wilbur home in one piece. she Cannot Afford To Fail.
she ends up winning by setting the arena on fire with use of a match donated by jack and some sponsors he managed to twist the arm of, plus probably some clever digging around in the arena itself to find something flammable (maybe some kind of fuel to power the arena itself?) this fire ends up killing off the remaining few tributes at that point - at least one in front of niki herself - and damages the arena too. niki, already injured before the fire started and now barely clinging onto life past her burns, doesn't even hear the sound of the cannon shots as her victory is announced - she only realises that she's won once the hovercraft descends, perfect steel against a fiery, smoke-filled artificial sky.
she can't really stand the sight of flames after that. unfortunately, fire becomes her new branding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. district 13 Is a thing. Eventually. can't overlook niki's beloved anarchist friends :3c
Tumblr media
and finally:

kai faebriel pretty please tell anon number i don’t even know anymore and the audience abt the tangled au thoughts..
okay i wouldn't say i have a perfect list of coherent thoughts happening like i do with some other aus but here are the main points i think. keeping in mind we have magical long haired wilbur and mildly swashbuckling rogue niki.
there's a magical flower in a field somewhere.
the antarctic empire rules over the land with a fist that is unjust only when it is extremely funny. lifetime buddies techno and phil are co-rulers; phil also has his son, wilbur. for the kid of an emperor wilbur is allowed to run around a lot, and he makes a lot of friends - from street urchins to bakers' daughters. stick a pin in that thought
unfortunately, one day pre-teen wilbur gets very sick. distraught, phil orders that the empire is turned upside down to find a cure, and they find it - the flower. it is infused into a tea, which wilbur drinks. his sickness disappears, and his hair turns white-gold.
double unfortunately, this pisses some people off
dream, noted Some Guy of the forest, had been using this magical flower to stay young and exert his power and authority over the forest for almost a century. needless to say, when the flower was taken by the empire, he was pissed. he swears revenge, and when restoring his youth through song doesn't work, he kidnaps wilbur. and teams up with some friends to overthrow the empire (pulled to pieces over the loss of its favourite son) and send the royal family into hiding. oh and he bullies some street urchins which mysteriously disappear and are replaced by a loud fucking chicken in the middle of the forest but like don't worry about it. in the chaos of kidnapping wilbur soot is struck in the head and loses his memories
the relationship between dream and soot is more of a patronage than a parenthood - dream provides protection and manpower while soot provides "strategy" (this started as internal knowledge on the kingdom but now dream just kind of keeps him busy) and of course, magic rejuvenating hair. over the years dream tells soot all sorts of lies about the outside world, and about how they would treat a "cursed" man like him, and soot is mostly more than happy to stay inside, even if something doesn't feel quite right.
and every year he sees a massive show of flame and fireworks from his tower window.
on the other side of the coin - when the empire falls, a young niki loses everything. she loses her parents, her family's bakery, and her home. first she's locked out of the castle, abandoned by her childhood friend, then she's locked out of everything - she ends up fleeing to an orphanage that her letter-friend lives in a kingdom over, carrying a dark, angry bitterness in her small heart that grows as she does. the kids whisper about the anarchist syndicate, remains of the old empire, who name themselves after gods - with a harsh tongue and nothing but memories drenched in perceived betrayal, niki calls herself nemesis.
as an adult, she teams up with fellow orphan and loser jack to generally swashbuckle. they don't trust each other (even if they're both awfully lonely), but they have the same goals. most of the time. like stealing old, relic crowns from decade-dead empires.
nemesis runs into the forest, the manberg guard hot on her tail, and finds a tower. and a man with the longest hair she has ever seen in her life.
soot's life is kind of pathetic. he literally cannot remember the last time he has been outside, his only friend is a chicken he has to hide from dream, he's cursed and would be hated for it if he dared step outside his tower, and everything he could possibly care about exists within four tiny walls. dream has truly managed to convince him that he deserves nothing. but, he's still an opportunist, and he's curious - dream is gone for three days, so if nemesis takes him to investigate the reason for these explosions every year, he'll give her back her dumb tiara. and nemesis does not really trust people as a rule but unfortunately she does silently long for company even though she doesn't realise it (c!niki moment) but also quite frankly wants her satchel back so she agrees.
cue road trip!
this post is already getting so long so here are some miscellaneous thoughts:
i haven't figured out who the snuggly duckling folks are but i know that instead of singing abt money niki is singing about exacting bloody revenge on all people who have hurt her Ever actually
after almost drowning in a mineshaft nemesis reveals that her real name is niki, which throws soot for a loop - he knows that name, which is impossible, but he does. from where? i wrote a bit of this scene actually
they also have a bit of a heart-to-heart afterwards where soot heals niki's hand and manages to wheedle her into talking a little bit more about her history. she had a friend when she was very young, you see, a prince who left her in the fucking dust when times got bad. and she never really got over it, even as the evidence increasingly started to suggest that something worse than abandonment happened to him.
("why don't they recognise each other?" 1. the magical power of aus working when i need them to 2. wilbur's magical dye job also niki's less magical dye job 3. puberty! puberty. has happened to friends of mine. potentially combined with mutual mild faceblindness)
they finally make it to the city and have a wonderful day braiding soot's hair and encouraging people to partake in graffiti and they turn the city upside down until they find someone with old newspapers from the empire (they had to convince them by holding nemesis' wanted poster up to niki's face. even though she had plain blonde hair two dye jobs ago, ugh) and soot does his best to memorise this information while trying not to throw up looking at crude renders of flags belonging to the small territories that cropped up beneath the empire.
betrayal moment so sad, schlatt almost executes niki for being an annoying dormouse, wilbur realises he is wilbur actually and dream has been longcon fucking with him for the last several years, niki gets stabbed and manages to only put together that soot is wilbur about three seconds from dying, she gives him the big chop, fortunately wilbur cries so so hard that his tears are magical too
CHICKEN TOMMY MURDERS DREAM
oh yeah and as it turns out the fireworks/fires are a bit of theatrical terrorism emduo put on in wilbur's name on his birthday every year. after dream dies wilbur and niki manage to track them down to reunite wilbur with his family and also get niki some cool friends :]
there's still some holes here but do you See the vision. do you see these losers sneaking around and reading books and painting with chalk as kingdom dance plays. Do You See Niki Being Harassed By A Chicken

let’s be honest—have you thought about a c!Niki Spider-Man au
I HAVEN'T BEFORE BUT I AM NOW ANON !!!
c!niki spiderman au is so interesting.....disclaimer i'm not a comics expert so i'm just kicking around ideas. BUT FASCINATING IDEAS THEY ARE !!! i think out of every type of superhero there is, she would really like being the friendly neighbourhood variety. she's not in it for the glory but she likes being able to stick up for people and help people, and spider powers give her a really powerful opportunity to do that.
on the flipside, though......i feel like c!niki is the type of character who would be hit very hard by the loss and hardship that comes with being a superhero. niki thrives when she's in a safe, supportive environment, but when she's isolated and put through shit, it gets harder for her to keep her integrity - very key to the story of a superhero! especially if a la the new spider movie tragedy is seen as something embedded in her story. i don't really see her bouncing back from her "uncle ben moment" easily at all - everything is fine, everything is great, until it isn't. and she's spiderman (spiderwoman, i guess?), everything was fine, why isn't it still fine, it's not fair, it's not fair it's not fair. and so on. the part of me that loooves a messy c!niki character study is very much reaching for that kind of loss of heroism in her.........being a hero is hard. being spiderwoman is hard. and what does niki get out of it? some people love her, sure. but others hate her. maybe something really bad happens - it's pretty much the nature of any spiderman to be framed for something awful - and a lot of people hate her.
it's easier to lash out. and to not be a hero at all - whether that's a matter of going full villain/anti-hero, or just hanging up the suit and Refusing to put it back on for months on end. maybe she moves away. maybe she tries to throw her friend's little brother off of a building. shit happens.
and maybe she makes some good friends and finds herself her team and she feels better about herself and eventually spiderwoman makes her grand re-debut. that can happen too.
some assorted thoughts:
not sure if this is a "spiderniki is the only superhero" universe or there are more of them out there.....much to consider.
niki has a sweet-to-fraught relationship with local knight-esque figure puffy (whether she's a For Real superhero or a civilian with a strong moral compass, that's up to you) that increasingly gets more and more strained as spiderniki struggles to stay on the hero path. as if going through a villain arc wasn't stressful enough
i think the OG l'manberg crowd would really look up to superheroes. i think they'd find spiderniki super cool. they're not in the know but whenever they rave about the local superheroine niki gets quietly very pleased with herself :]
i'm trying so fucking hard not to be the c!rainduo guy about this but: imagine, if you will, trying-to-make-himself-a-villain-but-it's-just-not-sticking wilbur against trying-to-be-a-hero-but-it's-all-so-much niki. imagine it please
niki makes her own suit :]
thinking about niki's ravine....not sure how that would shape in. something like niki hangs up the suit (or..cough....rebrands to something less-than-heroic) and empties out whatever little shed she was keeping her stuff in. but people don't stop needing help, even when spiderniki doesn't feel like helping anymore. and instead of being where niki operates as a superhero, she learns how to just operate as a good person, a person who can help people and receive help in turn.............somewhere where she can learn how to bake again.
okay unrelated to that last point i'm still thinking about c!rainduo now sorry

Super Niki au my absolute beloved.. the more information I get the more crazy I get
(hi sorry this sat in the inbox for like two months anon for some reason i was hoping something more substantial would appear out of thin air. it didn't btw.) regardless of that! fuck yeah anon i'm with you on that
i think a superhero niki story would have to have a real focus on the mundane. like the nitty gritty details of "how do you conceal your identity from people in your superhero costume?" "how do you fit patrols into your week? you can't possibly do them every day." all that! again i think this comes back to me being really attached to the 'everyman' side of c!niki it makes me want to imbue that feeling into everything i write with her. in this au i think she does work at a bakery (good for her) but when the shit starts to hit the fan she disengages from her job, stops taking on the extra duties she usually does at work, stops caring, eventually stops showing up. etc. this is probably related to how she ends up crashing with fundy and hbomb after The Puffychu Divorce (superniki edition)
here are a few other miscellaneous thoughts i've been having:
i've been having more of a think about emerald duo in this au, and i think i know how i picture them being. so phil is wilbur's dad, techno is phil's friend, techno and wilbur define their relationship in vastly different ways, etc etc the standard. oh but they're both supervillains. not for any particular reason they kind of liked mucking around causing mayhem first and then came up with an ideology later. anyway phil's retired and techno Would Like to be retired but he's still looped into the job due to Shenanigans (blood god related mb?). wilbur is fully aware of this and goes to him to be like 🥺 help i need ideas when he decides to go supervillain mode
oh! and wilbur's alter ego name is chekhov ^-^
and so the syndicate in this au is......................... a book club. yes for real
okay look i was thinking about what to do with the syndicate and i didn't really want to have them end up as a Bad Ass Villain Posse because i think niki needs to retire or at least be a superperson part time after everything that happens. so instead, she ends up meeting phil and techno and they help her ease into super semi-retirement ^-^ and ofc phil and techno appreciate having another friend who Gets It around. they are literally just like a book club and a mild support group in this au in a very silly way and i like it
i've spoken a bit about fundy and hbomb in this au... yeah niki lives with them after breaking up with puffy. not 100% sure where jack fits in. maybe he's another low ish level vigilante running around and tries to ally with niki? i can't imagine any allegiances she makes in that mental state (without the history she and jack had as l'manbergians in canon) would last very long. maybe she sees a bit of herself in him. they both call each other out for being emotionally immature idiots and then go and do the exact same thing themself. hypocrites
oh and i think i've mentioned niki making her own costume before!! i imagine as a fire based superhero she buys PPE (like from a tradie joint) and modifies it to be 1. functional and 2. fashionable. this does in fact mean that hi-vis yellow + orange are her colours in this au....
and below the cut is a treat: a snippet i wrote of a scene where after a big fight, wilbur finds himself patching up his wounds in the same safety stash as this city's very own friendly neighbourhood superhero (who wants to beat his ass)......
“Why do you hate me?”
The stubborn rasp in his voice surprises even him. As for the woman on the other side of the room, her shoulders draw tight - like a wild animal arching its back, a show of anger. The question, then – should Wilbur interpret such a motion as defensiveness, or as a threat? “What makes you say that?” she asks. Her voice runs high with the question – a quiet sound, like a flute's soft alto, though it rasps slightly through the sound of a voice changer. Idly, Wilbur wonders whether it is worth asking where she got it. Or how she fashioned it, perhaps. God knows he needs one. Chekhov might manage perfectly fine in the midst of faceless reporters and supervillains – the proper kind – who haven't seen the light of city streets in years, but if Wilbur were to cross paths with someone he knew as himself (god forbid, someone like Tommy) his voice would give him away quick as anything.  (His heart aches, briefly, when he thinks of his brother.) Part of him tries to unpick what her voice would sound like without it. It’s difficult not to fixate on these small things – perhaps because the bigger things provide him with so little in comparison. Her voice is quiet, a little difficult to pick the sounds apart around the staticky rumble of the voice changer, but far from timid. There’s a stubborn timbre to it. (Something in it is familiar. But that thought is patently ridiculous, and Wilbur is impatient, and so it is dismissed.)
[scene continues]
"Am I," Wilbur pauses, wets his lips – it almost feels as if the fire is still flickering beneath his skin, energising and scorching all at once. "Am I that horrible? Is there something – do you see something so inherently terrible in me that you just have to strike it down? Is that it?" Her powder-keg silence sparks, ignites, her scowl a torn-open slash even beneath the planes of her mask, embroiled in sudden fury. "Don't flatter yourself - "  "Ah, and there it is!" To her credit, she doesn't stagger back as he lights up – if anything, her affect is unimpressed. "Show us the blaze, firebug! What – what drives you? What lights your fuse?" "Do you even know what you are?" she retorts. Oh, she's caught on the hook, now. "You know what you are?" What is Wilbur expecting? Proud, arrogant perhaps – delusional wouldn't be anything new, or any of the crueler words from that stock. Wouldn't be the first time he'd been called some variety of son of a bitch bastard, either. Who is he, to this spectre of flame? He's asking honestly, though he doubts she believes in his integrity. "You're a liar," she continues, words stubborn and fierce and almost unwieldy. "You – you are so selfish, and so cruel – you take, and you take and you take and you don't think for a second of the people you're taking from. You don't think anything of them. You're a liar," and when she repeats these words, they sound like smoke – "and you know what? I hate liars. I hate them." The words sink into him like stones. How does she know? he asks himself. How does she know? He doesn't ask her that. Knowing his patience, he'd be lucky for an answer, anyway - instead he just suggests, "you speak like you're familiar on the subject, then?" If it's even possible, her scowl drives itself deeper into her face - like tyre tracks driven into mud, an ugly slash of drawn brows and what he can only assume is teeth bared behind that voice changer of hers. She looks at him like he isn't worth a single thing on this earth. "Yeah, well," she spits. "I've had my fair share, with bastards like you."

what’s everything like for Niki post-games? Does she actually have any effect on the Capitol itself?
that is a good question!! i was thinking about this. re: the effect she has on the capitol... i'm kind of inclined to say. no? maybe a little but largely no. not yet.
as far as niki's life post-games - i think she kind of spent the games clinging to just win, just win, just win and we'll cross the other bridge when we get there. which is kind of fair, considering how whip-quick she had to go from i don't care if i die, i won't perform for them to i must smile and dance and sing and kill just long enough to get us both out of here.
i don't think the capitol especially likes her. i mean, number one, schlatt is the president, which is basically a niki-specific orbital level threat in any universe (/silly). while she was a perfectly nice tribute on the surface she wasn't the favourite to win, and people in high places did notice her stubbornness when she first arrived, and no one is happy about how she won. i'm thinking that she really did manage to do some damage to the arena and unearth something flammable when she set the fire - the fire damage could be written off as a flashy accident made by a scared tribute, but people know she fanned the flames on purpose. it was kind of a dirty way to win. it showed imperfections in the arena and in the system, and that is not good for her.
(and niki's not thinking about that when she sets the fire. she's thinking oh god oh fuck scared tired hurt hurt hurt bleeding i'm going to die here i'm going to die i'm going to - because she does not play this stupid ass political game. when niki needs to survive, she just survives. she's too busy trying to win one game to even register that she's simultaneously playing another.)
so it's not great. her family's probably not dead yet, or any of her friends in 12 (bear or sophie, maybe?) but it's definitely a conversation that's been had. worst of all, capitol or schlatt or whoever have probably noticed by now her attachment to this random avox, which is not fantastic news for wilbur.
i think because of the type of person schlatt is, he'd be more likely to keep wilbur as a living hostage until niki outlives her usefulness as the most recent victor. you can only kill a guy once, but behave on your victory tour or loverboy gets it has like, infinite usage on these two.
also, considering emerald duo as district 13 (which admittedly i haven't thought as much about because i think the capitol structure is fucked up and interesting to explore and i don't want to pull them away from that too fast) - they would not operate district 13 the same way as canon does. i can't really see them advocating for a very specific mockingjay. i could see niki winning people inside the capitol over to their side, though, if she was very careful.
oh yeah - i think niki would get to know some of the other victors (and now, her fellow mentors)! she has a weird thing with the district 4 victor from two years ago. yes i'm talking about puffy. but honestly, i think niki would go very quickly from i don't want anything to do with these people to oh god we went through the same shit... i could see her being an unexpected force of unity for former victors, especially with how quickly and easily niki makes friends. i think that is something that could have an unexpected, mutinous effect throughout the capitol.

Ur rainduo hunger games au is just chef’s kiss. It’s so good!!!
Like niki and wilbur being friends and then wilbur disappears and she thinks he’s dead but he’s not?? And then she’s like I need to win I need to get him out of here. She’s like I am so angry but I can not show it. Like????? And her burning the forest down really suits her (I’m thinking of her burning down l’mantree) and then she hates fire but her branding is now fire +girlboss and she’s just like noooo no thank u. I’ve seen enough fire in my lifetime.
And wilbur is like a shaken up soda bottle. The lid is on tight but that does not mean that the liquid is calm. All u need is to take the lid off and it will explode everywhere. Yeah.
Anyways i love this au it is so cool!!!!
YEAH niki is such a straightforward character and she doesn't suffer the timewasting and arrogance of politics compared to so many other characters and so when her name gets pulled, she knows her odds of making it are just too low and she can't be bothered bullshitting that. she's not going to get up there and prance around for the cameras and pretend that everything is okay. it's not okay. she's not even a good liar in the first place. she has her parents presumably back home and a few friends in 12 so there's not much she can do, but there's a certain point where she just can't bring herself to participate. and then she finds wilbur, and the entire situation flips.
he is depending on her!! niki made peace with the idea of her own death as soon as her name was called at the reaping but this is an entire tidal wave of emotions that she already cannot compute. like the worst kind of grief and anger and survivors guilt. and if she loses, no one will rescue him. no one will even know he's there. and then that too, that's gonna be her fault. and even then, she gets these flashes of absolute rage...
she's so fucking lucky she has jack as a mentor to remind her of exactly the right way to smile so they can't see how tightly you clench your jaw. hbomb giving her these intricate hand braces so she can't visibly clench her fists when she talks so sweetly about winning the games and going home to her friends and making her district proud. and then she gets back to the tribute living spaces and tears her room apart in a whirlwind of burning anger, and then stays up late putting every stupid knick knack back together in case rumours spread because she needs to keep her reputation as the Sweet, Kind, Nicey Nice Girl from district 12 intact to win over sponsors.
and yea the forest fire is fucking traumatising. i can't remember if this is a canon hunger games thing or if my brain saw some fanon eight years ago and is running with it but i imagine once you win the games they slap all that megahealing shit into you so she wakes up in some private capitol hospital room and, beyond what she even thought was possible, the burns are gone. and she doesn't even know how that works but they must have done a pretty shit job because she can still fucking feel the fire beneath her skin.
you won and you got out! she gets wilbur out. maybe. but it's only really after the games that she realises she's never gonna be able to go home again. she should feel relieved to be alive at least, but all she feels is burning and a miserable, endless pit in her chest instead.
A SHAKEN UP SODA BOTTLE..... you're so fucking right KSHKDHDKD. wilbur is v interesting to me because like.... i think there's a bitter and hurting part of him that still blames himself above anyone else for getting caught. but he's been here for seven years. he has seen some horrible shit happen. wilbur has a tendency for self-hatred but he's not massively easily manipulated until someone is pushing him towards something he already wanted (thinking of how dream treated him in pogtopia.)
i think niki being reaped is a tipping point for him. like, he's not stupid. he's walked into the last seven years of reapings going not niki, and then not niki, not fundy, and then not niki not fundy please god not tommy and so on. and then the worst outcome happens, and niki barely manages to survive but only by swallowing her own voice and going through some terrible shit. wilbur saw that, he got to see it on live TV while pouring wine and retrieving stupidly rich food for stupidly rich people while he remembers arguing with tommy about whether they could eat a possum because at the time, that was their best option. it is one thing for him to be here. he has accepted that as his own fault (even if he probably shouldn't). but shoving niki through the meatgrinder? his kind, clever niki, who (in wilbur's eyes) has done nothing wrong in her entire fucking life? something needs to change, and he will bend steel with his bare fucking hands to make it happen.
now, to figure out how to do all that and actually stay alive.
the thing with wilbur that always stands out to me is that he's a character in motion. he doesn't stop. i think after being captured and having his tongue cut out and being tortured, he would obviously suffer greatly - but he wouldn't stop. his voice meant everything to him, and even though it's physically gone, part of him so venerates its absence that he cannot stop himself from trying to sustain it, to "bring it back", even if it sounds different now. even if it's all locked away in his mind. now, that is where he keeps everything he wants to say. he keeps his mind sharp over those years - reciting the names and birthdays of his friends in 12 so he doesn't forget them, tracing words across the wall when he's supposed to be sleeping so his handwriting stays neat enough to read. he's waiting, he just doesn't know for what.
and then niki is reaped. that's what.

thinks abt a c!niki anastasia au
this is an interesting one.......
on one hand, i have a lot of affection for c!niki as The One Normal Guy in a group of weirdos - in a world of gods and god complexes and all the people that fall somewhere in between, she is just some guy. and in a story like dsmp you wouldn't always get the perspective of just some guy, except this time you do, and it's just as rich and sensational as everyone else's (if not more who said that). so whenever these kind of aus roll around part of me is like ehhh her just some guyness though. BUT ALSO, puffychu singing paris holds the key to your heart. in a crowd of thousands even. (something something puffy amnesia? forget the palace? burning down l'mantree/destruction of l'manberg = opening scene?) and what am i going to say to c!niki in a spinny dress, no? hmmm. much to consider

Ooo sbi!witch au? Tell me more? <-genuinely curious/interested
yayyy hi mye :D
okay so it's a bit of a fantasy setting first of all. that's your context. everyone has some connection to one of six* sources of power, whether that connection is strong or limited - there are phantom witches (connection to death), freshwater witches, saltwater witches, spark witches (connection to fire, lightning, etc), glamour witches, and blood witches (i.e. shapeshifters). all these are varying degrees of popular but blood witches are veryyy unpopular as shapeshifting is generally viewed as desecration of the body, esp from a religious perspective - the body is a vessel for magic, stop fucking with it. not a universal opinion but one that holds water in a lot of cities.
tommy is a spark witch! tubbo is a blood witch. the two of them generally run around stealing shit causing trouble burning things down having fun from town to town. tommy is still mildly rabid for lady prime but more rabid for his best friend. tubbo generally keeps his type of magic secret - not an easy feat as it's one of the first things someone will ask or notice about another witch - so they usually hang out until someone finds out about him, and then they skip town. they also have made their souls into friendship bracelets so they have a general sense of where the other is and their state of safety at all times. when one of them is injured or exhausted, they share the pain.
unfortunately tommy makes a few friends in bad places and gets snatched off the street in some revenge plot. tubbo uses his shapeshifting to break in and get him out of there - so now those guys know about the herefore underestimated tubbo element, and tommy is pretty badly injured. they disappear into the woods and try to avoid getting eaten by the trees. it does happen.
they think they find a beacon. nice! it's actually a coven, in some kitschy little house. bummer! tommy is not doing well and they're about to be find out by whichever freaks live here and tubbo is pretty skeptical of these random woods folks' opinions on the complex political situation of blood witchery so in a stroke of genius /doubtful tommy encourages tubbo to shapeshift to hide himself as an animal, a Classic Ruse. so he does! here's tommy, a random young witch, and his familiar. this is 100% normal and no one has any reason to question it.
living in the house is small weird family (?) of guys wilbur (phantom witch), techno (???), and phil (freshwater witch, but it gets worse). they offer tommy and his familiar somewhere to stay while he gets better and, with few other options, tommy (and tubbo lol) says yeah sure. found family ensues
here is some info that is important but this post is getting too long to write out in paragraphs
wilbur is a phantom witch, but after a suicide attempt, being so close to death constantly is kind of triggering. instead, these days, he focuses on brewing potions (without a license) to sell at town markets. he's kind of still in the recovery phase and has a bit of a rough relationship with phil and techno but he and tommy, who is drawn to potionmaking almost immediately (and relates to powers he can't control - he's been called destructive for his unchecked fire magic before), get on like a house on fire
and he has a familiar called mr president!!! this is very important. firstly bc kitty but secondly because familiars flock to each other like seeing an old friend from school at the supermarket.....but tommy's familiar wants very little to do with mr president, who just seems vaguely confused by him............how strange!
*phil was a freshwater witch, but after stealing a dragons egg, was gifted with void witchdom. void is like a really powerful add-on to original witch magic, and also gives him some extra perks like wings and voidsight (peeking into other timelines to guess what is going to happen). phil does a bit of cheeky voidsighting when they find tommy, just in case this is some kind of ruse that peering into another universe might reveal, but all seems fine. he's just rowdy. tends to keep more company in other universes but maybe that's just a coincidence (it's not). goddess wife also
voiddom is something that is gifted, and because of that, it can be taken away.
okay i struggled hard with figuring out what techno's deal is but i think i'd go for the classic. yeah sure techno is also a blood witch. he doesn't really shapeshift either - thinking he used it to fight his way out of some rough background, and now prefers to keep his own form and do other stuff (kind of like wilbur) - and, much like tommy and tubbo, SBI are kind of cautious re: mouthing off pro-shapeshifting around these random strangers. twisted web we weave and all that
theres a lot of bonding over not letting your magic or perceptions of your magic define you :> but yeah
oh and then tommy gets tracked down and snatched back
and tubbo, at the end of his tether, is stuck with a not great choice. let tommy die or burn down literally everything they've built here to put tubbo in his place instead. so naturally he 1. reveals himself as not a familiar (which, they were starting to guess there was something weird about him tbh), 2. reveals himself as a blood witch (distressing and confusing, but hey, let's talk about this) and 3. sets a trap to steal phil's voiddom and use those powerups to find and rescue tommy (aaaand nobody is happy about that one)
theres a whole thing with plot resolution also but this post is long enough and i can't put in a readmore on mobile so. woooo 🎇😺🧪🗻🐺

Feel like Schlatt would be some shady band manager in that au.. also guitarist Niki
FOR REAL.........oh i don't know much about band managing im spitballing ideas on the train rn but imagining some kind of contract negotiation drama with quackity and schlatt (niki and fundy in the back while fundy tries to write code to spam their bandcamp links across twitter) and schlatt ends up snapping up band management plus some batshit contract terms. boots wilbur and tommy out and everyone else is absolutely worked to the bone. i know we can't really draw a straight line between president and lead singer bc that's not how bands work but my brain is doing it anyway so anyway in manberg era i kind of imagine the terms are either 1. quackity is lead and he's happy that finally he'll have some creativity authority except schlatt is extremely fucking controlling and it turns out quackity has absolutely no fucking say at all 2. fuck it put tubbo up front it would be funny (+ SFX ACCIDENT.......DO U HEAR ME..........) anyway the theme of Manberg The Band is extremely unsafe and unhealthy management practices. i think they should still try to actively murder schlatt in this au at least once honestly (unsure if deaths are Deaths in this au.....maybe wilbur just moved To A Farm Upstate lol).
GUITARIST NIKI!!!! 100 100 i love writing acoustic guitarist niki in my fics already lol. oooh and the puffychu of it all she can play her music.....i think at some point the guitar ends up copping too many bad memories for her and she picks up some other instrument instead. have to figure out which tho

okay i got a bit brain buzzy and wrote a little snippet of what i had in mind for rainduo tangled au (original nonnie please do still feel free to chime in if you would like to!! i just needed to get the buzzes out before sleeping)
He just barely hears Nemesis exclain don't! before he jackknifes beneath the water, eyes shut tight against the grime - a hand grips the back of his shirt as bubbles rush past his face, lining it with soaked dirt. He shakes his head with all the force of their own tiny, stupid landslide as he surfaces, kicking against the weight of his hair as it clouds the water beneath him. His fringe lays flat against his face, half-obscuring the dim sight of Nemesis' drenched, anxious expression.
He's sure the look on her face is mirrored against his own. Their time is running out.
"It's too dark," she pants, hand resting on his shoulder, fingers still wound into the fabric of his shirt - as if she's worried he'll dive again. Wise. He's considering it. "You're just going to get yourself hurt. It's not worth it."
He pushes himself back, one long stroke - the space is small enough that he can't quite stretch himself out properly, wrists grazing the jagged rocks. Their tome, then. The light is almost swallowed up entirely, only the slightest escape from the shadows in the belly of the beast, next to imaginary. He swallows, and tastes the filth that lines his throat.
"I'm sorry," he tells her. "This is my fault, it's my fault - it's my fault you're here, it's my fault we're trapped, it's my fault that we're going to - we're going to die here. I'm sorry, Nemesis." The words sit uncomfortably in his mouth. Wasn't it enough to die once? He supposes, at least, now he can judge what's worse - dying alone, or dragging someone with you.
(He wishes he were alone. He wishes he were alone right now, wishes she never found his tower, wishes he never made that stupid deal or saw those stupid lights or thought to leave at all, a trapped bird with lungs full of air because at least a birdcage has that - )
"My name," she cuts him off, voice quiet. He can barely hear it over the soft lapping of the waves. "My name isn't Nemesis."
Soft as it is, it's enough to slow his spiral. Or maybe to derail it. "It's - what?"
"It's not my name. Not my - not my actual name." And this next part, it's too dark for him to see her face anymore, but his mind tries to fill in the gaps - and the slight curl in her voice, as stubborn and sad as it is, sounds like a mournful smile. "It's actually Niki."
Niki.
Two short syllables, and still just enough to snag at the fabric of his mind, a jacket sleeve caught in a doorhandle - like skipping over a familiar melody, echoing on loop until he places the tune, Niki, Niki Niki. He knows this name. He knows this name. He doesn't know how he knows it but he does, better even than his own - the sound feels right in his head, right in his mouth. The syllables are comfortable. The cadence is worn-in, like a favourite pair of boots or a beloved old coat. He blinks with the power of it, a jigsaw piece dropping itself into his mind - into a space he knew was empty, but didn't realise was missing.
It fits perfectly.
Perhaps the lack of oxygen is getting to him.
(He's quite aware that no, it's not, not yet.)
He has no fucking idea what to do with this information.
"It's a nice name," he stammers out.
He tries to picture her round face - probably washed dry of the dark shadows painting around her eyes now, blonde-pink hair lank against her shoulders. Is she still smiling? Perturbed by his silence? Afraid to die? "Thanks."
"Well," he huffs, in a shameless effort to sound nonchalant. Does it stick? He's going to die, does it matter? "My hair is so magical, it glows when I sing."
He imagines, in the brief pause, Nemesis - Niki - squinting at him.
"...huh?"
The sentence hits him then (fucking moron), and propels his heart into double-time.
"I have magic hair," he repeats - more to himself than anything - "and it glows when I - oh, fuck, flower gleam and glow - "

howl’s moving castle but rainduo (platonic ofc)
CRACKS MY KNUCKLES. hmc is such a Classic nonnie so i had to do a bit of thinking to get it right (well.... to get it right in my head. but i feel everyone here is familiar enough with my particular kind of rainduoisms by now) but i think the outcome is a fun one :] i'm just gonna put my thoughts into bullet points
now originally i wasn't sure who should be who (oh my little bottle blonde anarchist......) but i did decide to put wil in a howl ish role and niki in a sophie ish role on the basis of how hard howl weaves narratives around himself and how hard sophie does not GAF. that element of them stood out so much that i was like okay cool that's how we'll do it
so niki is doing something semi unfortunate with her life. NOT baking that's for sure. holding onto an empty shop for a long-gone (not that she admits that bit to herself) old friend, and she's quite lonely. and then after crossing paths briefly with the local dipshit wizard she gets cursed by a snooty ass witch of the waste (idk who this would be.... open to suggestions i suppose)
and wilbur is the least competent wizard ever :] why bother to stay in wizard school when you could mix your own potions and refuse any and all help out of pride and trade your heart away to a fire demon for some companionship?
(i'm taking this as another opportunity to spruik albatross wilbur btw i know the wings aren't as striking as sleek crow-black but - )
the fire demon in question is fundy, who sort of came into existence as a being with a personality and such after falling from the sky and receiving wilbur's heart. wilbur smothers him too much. there's not many other people he keeps around to smother. fundy wants out honestly
(oh and it's not super relevant but i think tommy is markl hehe)
so niki marches off to track down the wizard who she overheard the witch mentioned and... starts baking in his kitchen. okay a rainduo thing is being almost too familiar with each other let's be honest. but yes i think they latch onto each other quite quickly. niki is at first just looking to have her curse cured but being old and hanging out in the house with people who actually seem to give a shit about her is freeing in a way, no more getting tangled up in the politics of her small town as it lunges towards involvement in the war, etc. wilbur thinks she's fascinating.
as for the broader "what's happening in the world" perspective i was thinking it was something along the lines of the antarctic empire being at war with another power, drawing all of these small towns and microcountries along with it.... wilbur is supposed to go home to his family but he doesn't want to because he's afraid of facing the trail of small, easily destroyed countries left in his wake, he doesn't want to deal with phil's questions or the scrutiny that he expects from phil. instead, he tries to sabotage the war effort on his own from the frontline
so he keeps receiving letters from phil, but he can't bear to face him. solution? uh.... get niki to go lol. it's even on the grounds of a small country wilbur once ruled (niki had to squeeze this information out of him like a sponge, and she only heard an inkling of it thanks to fundy), now called manberg, which ceded to the empire in the war.............
surprise! it was actually schlatt trying to pull Some Bullshit as a revenge trick. he roasts the other witch and then almost sinks wilbur and niki into the Void but despite his tendency towards problem avoidance, wilbur steps in to defend niki and they just barely make it away. that being said, niki has learned a lot about her new friend through this adventure that he has not been willing to divulge himself, and it stings. why does he shut her out?
also notable: wilbur gives niki a ring inset with three diamonds to help her find her way home
the atmosphere in the castle is not fantastic after that, all their fun little memories bitter now. wilbur swings between talking freely about ripping the armies apart with his bare hands (claws? talons? that secret is out and he keeps evading all of niki's questions with nervous laughter and quips about monsters) and saying absolutely nothing at all. his suicidal tendencies are the elephant in the room that basically everyone else refuses to talk about, except his own too-grandiose and vague comments on the subject.
niki tries not to stew over feeling excluded. the lonelier she feels, the worse her curse gets.
wilbur takes her to a flower field, blooms rolling long into the horizon, and for a moment she thinks they might be fixing things. (she's so wrong)
through a series of mishaps (perhaps a visit from one of niki's friends..... i feel bad doing eret dirty like that though lmfao) henchmen start breaking into the house just as bombs fall upon the city. niki is put into overdrive to keep the castle from falling apart as the city burns around them. wilbur, who is already doing extremely too much flying around and causing problems in the midst of bombs dropping decides to go exacerbate the issue in an attempt to go out in a blaze of glory. unfortunately for him niki, fundy and tommy are all stubborn sons of bitches who will be extremely pissed if he fucking dies, so we pick up the castle and start moving
okay yeah i kind of think the rest of the story plays out not too differently from the movie? niki gets split up from her friends when the castle breaks down and attempts to kick a dent into a mountain when she realises she's alone again. unable to find wilbur himself, with the last bit of power from the diamonds he gave her she finds the doorway into his memories and sees the moment he and fundy met..... they were both very lonely. very sad. she shrieks out to both of them to look for her in the future
she stumbles out of the memory and finds a pile of feathers wilbur and woooo forehead kisses and wooooooo niki finds fundy again and puts wilbur's heart back even if it means they both might leave her again. BUT THEY DON'T even if they're not all in the castle 24/7 niki now has a few nice friends and is so submerged in that feeling that she doesn't even notice the curse breaking.
and the war ends!! and maybe they even talk about their hurts!! the hurts they carry and how they hurt each other!! and they keep on living!! and they all live best friendily ever after <3

oooo okay to anon abt the band au.. l’manberg crew band au
BAND AU BAND AU !!! ngl i'm still weighing up what direction to take this one... l'manberg shitty pop punk band being played out of someone's garage because they want to get out of this towwwn? l'manberg class orchestra? l'manberg marching band? l'manberg actual record deal successful industry band? l'manberg awful indie mess trying to balance five different creative visions at once??
i can't tell if it's better to have just as many tragic things happen as do in canon or if it's like, wilbur left the band and everyone acts like he died. eret leaked their setlist to a rival before one of their early shows and wilbur never forgave them ever over it. they have tommy on drums but he keeps loudly commenting that he would like to practice his flute on one of their songs instead

ok but the way you wrote rainduo in that tangled au is SOOOOOOOOO!?!!? Idk if it’s intentional but it reminded me of using Niki’s character during the syndicate/revengeish era with Wilbur’s character pre-pogtopia
aaaaaaa thank you nonnie!! for niki she definitely has some revenge-era vibes going on..... she lost a friend a long time ago and never quite got over it. /hinting
wilbur is a bit of a grab bag of 'in limbo' (read: the tower) but without his memories, which lends him a degree of naivete. as far as he can remember he's been stuck inside for a long time
