Is C4-621 literally just a very smart dog?

I know it's stupid as hell, but I can't think of anything that actually proves they're human. Even in the one scene outside their ac, they never do anything a dog couldn't. They never communicate anything more complex than yes/no or left/right hell, a few ac parts specifically mention in their descriptions that a human pilot couldn't handle them. but 621 seems to have no problem. What if it's because they're not human?

we know *humans* need all sorts of invasive surgery to pilot a mech effectively. whose to say the same upgrades wouldn't work on a dog?

does 621 remember anything? the 2nd time? the 3rd time?

There's something incredibly gender about Ayre finding out C4-621 isn't "actually" Raven and then, upon learning of its meaning to them, deciding to keep calling them by that name. Not to suggest it was intended to be a trans thing by Fromsoftware, but stories that deal with identity— and the acceptance of new identities by those around you— will always have trans undertones, at least for me.
