Game of Thrones – 8x04 “The Last of the Starks” episode analysis – or who the fuck ever let D&D write stuff

You know I am pretty much like this dude here –

so I will be the woman to lead this ship or so help me all the old gods and the new.

Spoilers, d’uhh.

Aftermath - but everyone has their wardrobe on fleek, hair looking fab and they even had time to clean the entire field of Winterfell

The episode starts with the funeral pyre and how DARE you make me love Jorah even more and twist the knife in my heart. And did you have to show me Theon, Beric, Edd’s and Lyanna’s bodies???

RUDE.

Jon is doing a big speech and it is nice and drove the sobbing further, but I get it this is Jon’s turf so he has to be the one making the big speech. That is such a Dany thing though, and I can’t help to think, when put into perspective with the rest of the episode, that it’s yet again a thing Dany has lost. But more on that later.

The pyres are lit, sad music, more sobbing from me. OOOPS BUT DID YOU CATCH THAT JONERYS EXCHANGE OF LOOKS? Because I did! I can’t help but think how he looks at her for reassurance and she feels it and she turns and she is just.so.broken. And then she cries and I cry again.

A feast for crows the survivors

And then we get a feast and suddenly everyone is happy and stuff… ok, I guess life goes on. Maybe Sandor’s crass remark, under the guise of a funny moment, was meant to make us think on it. But maybe that’s too deep for D&D who the fuck knows.

Let’s talk about Gendry’s legitimisation.

Dany does it quite publicly, and small exchange between her and Tyrion makes sense. Honestly, if she hadn’t done it herself then and there, it would have come up at a later point, but with 2 episodes left there’s no time. S.ansa does her shady looks because she throws shade and Bran just stares into the void smh.

Davos x Tyrion

The Lord of Light fucked off into the sunset when he saw D&D’s piss poor writing and honestly same. He probably fucked off when he saw Melisandre was still getting his prophecies wrong.

Every time S.ansa comes into frame my soul leaves my body a bit more because whY THO.

Tyrion x Bran the 3ER

Cool beans Bran, that’s how you use you abilities? OMG JOJEN FUCKING DIED FOR YOU–

“I mostly live in the past now” - to me this means Bran has become this empty shell of a man and he just visits the past and checks out cool shit. It’s like a kid who gets access to YouTube for the first time. Heck he can even see his dad or whoever else he misses if he feels anything at all now. Because if he doesn’t even have “wants” then? What was the point of it all? God I swear the writers will not rest until they will have reduced all characters to tropes and empty shells of their former selves.

Tormund and the gang around Jon; Tyrion with Jaime ; Dany alone

This scene right here was the beginning of the end. Remember when Tormund was a dude who was in awe by strong women? D&D don’t. He suddenly is so far up Jon’s ass nothing could take him out. Guess it pays off for him in the end since Jon just gifts him Ghost.

S.ansa just fucking stop OMG PLEASE STOP WITH THE FUCKING LOOKS JFC.

But where was Missandei??? Why was Dany alone? And what the fuck was that look, VArYs?? Someone give Dany a hug because my god the isolation is real. Fuck. STOP. TAKING. EVERYTHING. FROM HER.

Gendrya - or the moment Gendry decided to pull a Ted Mosby

I feel so bad OMG they did this ship so dirty. However. Arya saying that was expected. But I call bullshit on her never rethinking her decision. Girl’s got a list and she just can’t NOT try to finish it, I mean, wouldn’t you? After you killed such a big boss as the NK?

At the same time, they would be trying for faux feminism, pulling a Arya doesn’t need a man to be happy. Guess the sex was just to try it? Wow can you believe they cheapened this ship and that beautiful moment like that?

I’m so sorry babies, you deserved much better. Guess Gendry was always meant to have his heart broken by a Stark girl once he became a Baratheon. Wow.

Weirdly enough!!! And spoiler maybe?? Leak? Idk. But I feel like Gendrya will prevail (also because she looks heartbroken to reject him like that…). When asked if Gendrya will rule the 7K, Friki said no, these two aren’t made for ruling anything. For what’s worth, Friki mentioned he does know Arya’s endgame and shebis confirmed alive in the Dragon Pit in 8x06 :)

Oathsex

Uff yeah I did not like that. It felt wrong in the context and it felt cheap and I…. yeah IDK. And then Jaime leaves. He could have at least told Brienne that he is he only one who can kill Cersei or IDK, but not leave her like that. Jeesh dude my poor Knight, she is gutted by him.

Jonerys makeout and chat and hey who wanted angst? Turn on your location I just wanna chat.

Sooo flip side: I somehow, for the second time, predicted a thing in my fic. HOWEVER D&D keep only getting half my fics because GURL DID YOU NOT GET THE SMUT MEMO? AND THE FLUFF MEMO?

So Dany goes to find Jon, again, who is tipsy, and Jon suddenly remembers to give Dany some comfort for having lost Jorah…

The set up for Dany saying ILY it’s a bit .. ehh. But her actual words: “He loved me, but I couldn’t love him back, not the way he wanted it. Not the way I love you. Is that alright?”

A+ scene. I love how he can’t help himself and as soon as she is in his arms’ range he just pulls her into him, BEFORE she asks “Is that alright?”.

Uff emo side note here, this scene and this phrase reminded me of this song. Listen and sob. you’re welcome.

On that depressive note, wow that make out tho. Two things I learned from this scene: 1 - Jon is horny drunk, which same; and 2 - Jon is a tiddies guy like he dove in and went for the tiddies, which also same. Am I Jon? Is this why I keep guessing his fucking reactions but D&D won’t give me the rest????? We’ll never know.

And… then Jon stops and pulls back. And I KNOW that in the BTS we are told he is disgusted or whatever along those lines, but to me?? That look means he is CONFLICTED. And listen, if y’all wanted it to make it to mean "disgusted" then you should have made Kit do it differently since YOU KNOW HE WAS FAKE GAGGING TO EMILIA EVERY OTHER MINUTE. YOU CAN’T KEEP ADDING SHIT LATER YOU FUCKING DUMBASSES YOU EITHER PUT IT IN THE ACTUAL SHOW AND THE ACTUAL ACTING OR STFU.

But I guess to me that rejection was more for the general audience than for us. C’mon he clearly loves her, his dick was so hard he was about to nut then and there. Stop bringing your 21st century considerations into a feudalistic fantasy where you have Royals and dragons. Also FUCK YOU VARYS BECAUSE EVEN IN THE NORTH AUNT AND NEPHEW MARRIED SO FUCK YOU BALDIE.

I digress. Then Dany echoes what Jon himself thinks/said - wishing she would have never known. And then we get something that I felt when she was alone and sad at the feast. “I saw the way they looked at you. I know that look; the same way people looked at me, but never on this side of the sea” - yeah so I need a break.

This here - cemented for me what I think the show is doing: stripping everything away from Dany: her armies, her children, her people and the love her people have for her… then Jon. And I don’t mean that as in the sense of some bullshit fleak. No, I mean it in the context of this episode. Because Jon never says I love you back (and maybe @normalisjustafairytale is right and Jon is afraid to say it after Ygritte), and he rejects her, and he says he can’t NOT tell his sisters, even if Dany begs him not to. So in a sense, for now at least, Jon is being taken away from her. So you have all this isolation and losing and losing and then what does she have left? The only constant in her life? The fucking Iron Throne. Because at the moment there is nothing else for her and she probably feels like she will be nothing without it. Hence why she presses to go and take Cersei down. I won’t lie to you, it is cheap writing and very lame and honestly I have read fics a million times better than this bullshit, but they will, at one point, hit us with the boatie reveal, and when that happens, and when Jon fucking finally pulls through and stands by her side, she will have something else, a different constant in life. Moreover, because she realises that the people here in Westeros will never love her, she will have even more of a reason to bow out, say a big fuck you, take her boatie and her hubs and get to her house with the red door.

This is not just wishful thinking, it is very much D&D, and they will of course “humble the powerful woman” (I puked in my mouth by writing that). But also, my consolation is that with this episode, heck even the people who weren’t necessarily her fans, are on her side and asking her to burn KL down. Which I don’t think she would, but more on that in a different post. God this post is already long.

Then Dany echoes what I also said in my fic ugh I hate myself what we all know and are thinking: it doesn’t matter if Jon doesn’t want it; it matter that there are people out there (fucking S.ansa jfc this fucking UGGHDGugduzdahidfg) who don’t like Dany and will support Jon immediately over her. She is right and he is stupid for not seeing it.

Dany is absolutely right. This shit cannot be contained because you don’t know how people would react to it.

And I love how she turns the tables on him. But Jon… is still Jon for plot reasons I guess. Maybe he didn’t understand why Ned had to keep the secret for so many years.

The end of the Northern plot - BYE NO ONE WILL MISS YOU

Yeah no. Bye. Fuck S.ansa or Sandra, who the fuck this OOC shitty ass character is. Fuck every single one of them. Wow, emotional manipulation at its finest. I just love how they basically called this episode the last of the Starks because they just character assassinated all of them. Edit: LMAO you know what this is? The shitty family that pulls over one member and tries to break him up with his wife, for the sole reason they don't like her. Because fuck their brother's happiness. Because they are fucking selfish people.

King’s Landing mess & the shitty ass parley that even Captain Sparrow could have organised better

Ew how much time has it passed since Cersei is already claiming to be preggers?

“So much for the breaker of chains” - is again, a sign they are trying to strip Dany of everything she has and is.

Tyrion and Qyburn - ew, but also Qyburn has a point, why would Cersei surrender? Oh and I think the point to save Rhaegal from the NK only for him to die at the hands of Euron is to further handicap Dany and make the Cersei threat real, and have a reason to keep Drogon away from KL - HAVE YOU ALL SEEN THE SCORPIONS EVERYWHERE?

Ugh Tyrion stop trying to get Cersei to love you LMFAO she doesn’t. But I know, it is hard to break from toxic relationships and abusers. Tyrion told Cersei “you are not a monster” and she literally went “HOLD MY BEER”.

Missandei’s death made me sick to my stomach and traumatised me for life. We should all collectively agree to NEVER give D&D our attention again and never let them write anything again.

Missandei hatefully spewing DRACARYS as her last words was so strong it made me start crying because holy shit this was a peaceful person, and for her to show this much hate and rage was so gutting… fuck me. I am crying again. I think she also meant, besides from the obvious, “there is no reasoning with these people, so why bother. Might as well blow it the fuck up.”

And Grey’s reaction wow - again, I was about to puke, despite the scene not being the most gorey on GoT, but it was so intrinsically and viscerally wrong my mind could not deal.

In conclusion

Poor Dany, she has lost everything. EVERYTHING. She is literally at her lowest. After the discussion with Jon, she slipped back the Queen mask - like you can pinpoint the moment she does so! And she keeps it on in front of everyone else but her dragons.

I am expecting a very very cold (but very fragile inside) Dany in 8x05. I am expecting her to push Jon away. Oh and at the ending of 8x04 she totally just gets up on Drogon and goes back to Dragonstone. No way she does anything yet so soon.

I haven’t watched any of the BTS and Making of videos, nor have I watched the 8x05 promo. Will do soon.

Stay strong, jonerys is still going strong. I am here until the very end and I still think this will end with jonerys together. Will it be good writing? Nope. But it will end well. As I keep saying. We’re missing the “sweet” in this fucking “bittersweet” shit show. Stop saying it ends badly because of 8x03.

THE STORY SO FAR

The words of House Stark could never be understood by a child born in the midst of the long summer. They all knew them by heart, their father had repeated them often enough, but it wasn’t something that sank in until years later. Arya’s childhood was a good one. Her days were spent either groaning in lady lessons with her Septa, surprising Maester Luwin with her academic abilities, or being mistaken for a stable boy while covered in dirt and scabs from playing outside. Her father had always told her that she had a touch of the wolf’s blood, like her aunt. Her mother called her a ‘trial’, whatever that meant. How she had loved to trail after her brothers and play. She loved to shoot a bow and arrow much to her mother’s chagrin. She loved to train Nymeria. Life at Winterfell had it’s faults, of course. Sansa in all her haughty glory had never understood her little sister. Nor had Arya understood how people treated Jon. Arya did not belong either. She would always be an outsider like her half-brother. Yet, for all the flaws there were, Winterfell had been a wonderful place to be. That is until the fat, drunk King rode up to ruin everything.

The only good thing about King’s Landing were dancing lessons. That and all the new places to explore. The cons far outweighed the good, though. In between chasing cats, balancing carefully, and gawking at dragon’s skulls, Arya had to stomach her sister still swooning over the son of a bitch that got Lady killed and would have had Nymeria killed too. The coward had his Hound ride down her friend and killed. Arya knew that she would never forgive him. She would never forgive any of them. It only became worse as the tensions grew more taught. Battle lines were drawn and when Robert Baratheon finally managed to get himself killed, all hell broke loose. When Arya had seen her father up on the chopping block with Joffrey, Cersei, Illyn Payne, she had thought that nothing would be worse than her father’s death. When he was pardoned to live out the rest of his life on the Night’s Watch, Arya knew that she had been wrong. This was still a death. It was only made worse because he would be dead to them, but still living. From the crowd of smallfolk, Arya looked into her sister’s eyes. For the first time in her life, Sansa was rightfully afraid. All that she wanted to do was protect her sister and go home. Eddard told her they were going home, along with some blacksmith’s apprentice, but Sansa would be staying in King’s Landing. Suffice to say, she did not accept this news well. Arya had shouted at her father to call all his bannermen and depose the wicked prince. She begged and cried for him to let her go back and get her sister. Eddard carried her out of the Capitol, kicking and screaming the entire way.

It took nearly half of the trek home for Arya to finally give up trying to force her father to go back for her sister. His hypocrisy angered her like she had never been angry with her father before. The lone wolf dies, she would remind him to no avail. It was as if he’d given up. Gendry, as she had come to know, grew from the annoying tag along to a bickering partner and easy friend. He could even manage to talk her out of a few stupid ideas on the way back North. When they arrived at Winterfell, Arya instantly went to Robb with her desire to go back and save their sister. She wanted vengeance. Arya begged Ned, Catelyn, and Robb alike to damn the Lannisters and Baratheons and all their laws and agreements. They were Starks and wolves did not need to cower. Her father could stay as King in the North, and they could ride to save Sansa and fix everything. It was repeated to her again how tumultuous the political landscape was and that any force large enough to get Sansa back would be easily spotted. It would only result in Sansa’s death. Honor would not allow her father to stay, either. They were all fools. Nothing sat well with her anymore. Arya continued to practice with her sword, often taking refuge in the forge with Gendry. It had been nearly a year of her sister being in the Lion’s Den when Arya finally came up with her plan. She planned to pack Needle and whatever else she could carry and go to save her sister on her own. It was Gendry that managed to catch her and insist that he come along since a ‘scrawny thing’ like her couldn’t really defend herself.

It turned out that he was right. It also turned out that he wasn’t any help, either. They travelled safely for some time, pretending to be anyone but themselves. They became lost more than either would care to admit. Soon, the rumor that Sansa had drowned in King’s Landing began to spread. Filled with a rage she had not known herself capable of, Arya rushed into the nearest trees and angrily attacked the wood until she was so tired she fell asleep there in the grass. The next morning, they decided to make way to Arya’s uncle in the Riverlands. Since she hadn’t been able to talk Robb into doing anything of use, perhaps she would be able to convince a Tully to keep family above duty or honor. She couldn’t even remember what had started the argument, likely it was stupid and unimportant, but deep in the heart of the Riverlands, the two had entered into a shouting match that ended with Renly Baratheon hearing them, sneaking up on them, and taking them as hostages. Finally, Arya could understand her house’s words. Filled with rage, a drive for revenge, disappointment in the inaction of her family, the sudden mysterious death of her mother, and betrayal from every corner, Arya knew that Winter Is Coming for them all in the form of her. It didn’t matter how, she knew it to be true.

HEADCANONS

Ever since Arya was a little girl, she had adored her father. While her mother fussed and fretted over making Arya into a proper lady, Ned had only every accepted his youngest daughter for exactly as she was. Needlework, dresses, curtsies, and wedding a lord or knight or prince had never been of any interest to her. Instead, she preferred to play fight with her brothers and steal desserts from the kitchens. She pestered the staff so much they all called her Arya Underfoot. Her mother, and Sansa, had wanted Ned to tame her when she came home muddied and hair tangled, but her father would always smile. He was her favorite person in the world until he would not return for her sister. Sansa and she had always been at odds. Hell, they’d been at each other’s throats the entire time since Robert Baratheon arrived at Winterfell, but was it not her father that told her the pack survives? How could he leave Sansa on her own in a Den of Lions? Arya used to have a favorite parent, but now it feels like she has no parents at all.

While Winterfell would always be her home, Arya had a genuine love to travel. She’d ridden to White Harbour with her father twice. Every second had felt like a monumental adventure, although Ned had said it was no big ordeal. She hadn’t wanted to go to King’s Landing, but that was because she wanted her family to all go together. As independent as she may act, Arya always staunchly wanted her family as a whole. She still enjoyed the journey down the King’s Road as best she could. Arya was prone to making friends with anyone, but especially the smallfolk.

Arya was a Stark. Everyone knew this. However, none of her trueborn siblings had looked like Starks. They all appeared more like their mother’s house Tully. Jon was the only sibling who had ever looked like her. Their long faces, and dark features were unmistakable. As a young child, she’d cried because she’d thought that had made her a bastard too. Jon had consoled her and assured her that it wasn’t the case. He’d been her favorite sibling. They had that connection in bond that was only reflected by their appearance. Now she knew that Jon wasn’t even her brother, though. He was her cousin. It did not make her love Jon any less. In her heart, he would always be her brother. However, that made Arya the only Stark to look like her father. She was the only Stark who looked like a Stark. Arya had always felt out of place. She was an outsider in her own family. With Jon being revealed as a Targaryen. It only cemented that she didn’t belong.

Summary of That GOT soulmark au I'll probs never write

In this au everyone in Westeros gets a soulmark at puberty, nobility mostly never tells anyone where the mark is for safety reasons and because 99% of the time highborns get matched to lowborns and that's just sad or dangerous for all involved, the mark is only visible if the person wants to show it so soulmarks in Westeros are some high kept secret people never share and such.

Some lucky people were like Ned and Caitlin who had the marks of a silver wolf and a blue fish in their arms respectively and yayy for them. Ned was intimately the only one who ever knew his sister Lyanna had a dragon in her chest and that's why he took in Jon, because hd knew Raegar and not Robert was her true soulmate.

Depending on the place of the mark people can tell what kind of soulmates they're matched to, arm means strength, legs means endurance, head means intelligence and so on.

Nobody knows what the Starks had as marks because like all houses they never told.

Robb was probably the most sad because he had a thorny rose in the palm of his hand and he knew what he was giving up when he married Talisa. And despite being married to Renly for political reasons when the grey wolf in Margaery's own hand dissapeared only Loras knew that she mourned Robb in a way only people that never get to meet their soulmates do.

Joffrey never cared to look for the girl who had his mark and Roslin Frey was better off for it when the black lion in between her shoulder blades disappeared the day the 'king' was poisoned.

Cersei's mark was a golden lion in her hip, she was convinced that it meant Jamie was her other half because they were twins, Jamie loved his sister so much he lied and told her that he was, only Tyrion knew that Jamie's mark was a sword in the underside of his arm. The Lannister cousin that shared Cersei's mark eventually married someone from Casterly Rock and outlived her by decades, Heynri Lannister didn't mourn the soulmate he never met, because he never knew who she was.

The sword in Jamie's arm eventually led him to think that being a knight was his life's calling, he served under Aerys, then Robert, then Joffrey. He crossed paths with Brienne of Tarth, grew to admire the great amazon woman greatly but it wasn't until she named his gift 'oathkeeper' that he knew why there was a sword in his non dominant arm. Arms were supposed to mean strength and Brienne was all that and more.

Brienne suspected the rusty Lannister pretty boy was her soulmate since the bear, knowing he had that weird thing for Cersei, Brienne didn't bother to ask him, but she knew for sure that the sword in her dominant arm was Jamie's when he almost died in the battle of dawn. It kept blinking in and out of existence while Jamie was being tended to the maesters of Winterfell...plus Tyrion totally tattled.

When Arya Stark had her first moon blood a black stag appeared in her leg, she didn't care about soulmate business tough, not when she had already seen so much death and half of her family was already dead, or when the man in the house of black and white told her to cut off the skin where her mark was in her mission to become no one, and didn't care when she decided to become Arya Stark again.

Gendry tough, he knew that Arya was his soulmate from the moment she told him who's daughter she was, his leg had the head of a brown direwolf and how much of a coincidence could that be? He only knew her for a short time and she had her list of names but he knew he would love her even if he never saw her again.

He did see her again, in King's Landing, Arya never knew who found who, but one minute the city was celebrating Cersei's death and the next thing that happened Arya and Gendry were face to face. From then on its unclear if it was Arya who dragged Gendry to Winterfell or in Gendry followed Arya on his own. Point is that Sansa told everyone that Arya and Gendry were a thing and everybody took her for her word no matter how much Arya and Gendry denied it.

Samwell Tarly almost died ten times before meeting his soulmate, because of that, Gilly was fairly used to watching the owl on her shoulder appear and dissapear since way before anyone told her what soulmarks were, Sam's was a gillyflower naturally and his father thought that it was such a stupid mark that it only accelerated his wish to send Sam to take the black. These two were such dorks, they were the type of soulmates that thought that love and destiny and survival against while walkers meant that they were always supposed to be together because 'soulmarks'. Gilly still looks down on people who give up on their soulmates and Sam eventually writes his own book studying the subject after Gilly's boy grows up.

Sansa and Tyrion were the rare type of people who had a mark in their neck, which means that quite literally their other half will be... not good for said neck.

Sansa used to dream that her soulmate was someone like Jory, but on getting her soulmark in King's Landing, horror of horrors Sansa thought that her mark was Joffrey's, because she had on her neck an exact replica of the Lannister sigil in black, exept for one detail...her lion had gold dragon wings. So she consoled herself that it couldn't be Joffrey and since she didn't know any man who fit the description of a BLACK lion with wings, she told herself and anybody that asked that she'd never met him or her. Tyrion was the only Lannister who she thought she trusted enough to ask about the sigil but the day she finally plucked the courage was the day he was forced to tell her lady mother and Robb.

While he didn't believe in soulmark hogwash even before Tysha, Tyrion thought that his soulmark was the most handsome thing ever, his neck had a red direwolf howling to the moon, it was a piece of artwork straight out of a artisan pen. He thought being a dwarf and a Lannister he wouldn't ever meet his soulmate let alone be allowed to marry her so he was reckless with his dick and never paid it much attention. Even tough he fancied that he knew her when he was drunk, his neck wolf. The soulmate who could cost him his neck. He went in a very deep denial when he met the stark children, because he suspected that Sansa was his mark, even deeper during the battle of blackwater and it wasn't until Tywin forced Tyrion to marry her that he realised that it was far more likely that HE would cost Sansa her life. So he tried to protect her and didn't tell her.

Then Joffrey died and Sansa left and Tyrion was accused of murder. So it always came back to the neck metaphor. Tyrion and his survival and Sansa and hers.

Then of course Ramsey happened and Mereen happened and the battle of the bastards happened and Danny happened. So Tyrion and Sansa were a bit busy playing the game. It wasn't until they saw eachother again while brokering a treaty between the south and the north with Danny and Jon that literally everyone noticed how Sansa and Tyrion simultaneously touched the same spot in their necks on sight.

Sansa never knew if it was parentage, being considered worthy to ride Viserion on becoming the hand of the 'dragon' queen that gave the golden wings to her soulmark's black lion, neither did Tyrion( tough Varys probably did). But for them the soulmark thing was more of a full circle kind of omen. When Danny used Sansa as an excuse to leave Tyrion in Winterfell while she mobilized supplies and troops to battle the white walkers Tyrion in Sansa's turf was almost a thing of déjà vu when Sansa had to use HER influence as sister of the king to avoid getting Tyrion by Lannister haters.

Eventually they settled into a routine of Tyrion protecting Sansa's neck, Sansa protecting Tyrion's and when the war of dawn was over Tyrion took Sansa to the ruins of Casterly Rock and asked her to marry him again. They became the kind of soulmates everyone looked up to, powerful, smart and very much in love, the couple everyone else went for advice on THEIR soulmate troubles because Sansa and Tyrion went trough all these stages of loss and separation in between meeting, falling gradually inlove and getting (voluntarily) married that they usually did have an answer for everything.

Daenerys and Jon both thought that they were born witout soulmates, Viserys liked to taunt Daenerys saying that Targaryens never got things like soulmarks but Jorah was the one who told Danny when she married Khal Drogo that people with the blood of old valyria were rumored to get their soulmarks only in unusual circumstances, since the gods had a tendency to match power with more power, endurance with endurance and strenght with strength, marked Targaryens were by far the most dangerous.

When a wolf shaped icicle surounded by fire appeared in Danny's breast the day she emerged from Drogo's funeral pyre with her hatchlings. She knew she was destined to take back Westeros, because she was the first marked Targaryen in centuries.

Jon always thought that not having a mark meant that he was defective and that's why he was okay with taking the black and becoming a crow, but the night Igritte died he woke up to a burning in his chest only to find the mark of an impressive white dragon just above his heart and it almost broke him.

Blood of old valyria soulmates were so unheard of that nobody could tell Danny why she kept dreaming of snow and cold, or why Jon kept seeing the sunny buildings of Essos and Mereen when he warged into ghost. Eventually they got used to it and even found it nice to have a mystical 'companion' share their soulmark, why not let it be?, it wasn't like it was harming anybody.

Then Jon died and Drogon had to almost burn Daenerys back to life again because she felt it all, Tyrion and Varys were worried as hell when Danny collapsed one moment and then spent a week with her children recovering from how frightening the ordeal was.

Mellisandre saw Jon's mark when she revived him, she warned him that there was only only one person that dragon could belong to but Jon didn't listen. Not to her or the fire God. He knew the heart of the person his mark matched and it wasn't some egomaniacal people burning dragon queen.

To be fair when Danny told Tyrion what her mark looked like the imp knew her soulmate was someone she might want dead, but he did tell her who he suspected. And likewise Danny didn't listen, because the very idea was ridiculous.

Ironically when Jon and Danny met for the first time in the battlefield after Danny took the throne from Cersei, it was Raegal and Ghost who recognized eachother like some sort of long lost animal brothers. Forcing Danny and Jon to admit that they had a problem, Danny didn't want to kill her soulmate anymore than Jon wanted to kill his and they were in the middle of a battle.

So Sansa and Tyrion were called in to broker a ceasefire and in the process Jon and Danny joined forces to fight the real threat to Westeros: the night's king, Daenerys almost died, Jon almost died, even when they held lightbringer together and pushed it in the monster's stomach there was a moment both thought that they wouldn't make it, but they did and when Westeros united itself once again to celebrate the end of winter nobody was surprised to hear that the people wanted them BOTH in the iron throne. And since Jon refused to live without Daenerys anymore and Daenerys was willing to execute anybody who told her she couldn't keep Jon, it was decided that on marrying Danny Jon would in good faith take the Targaryen name for the sake of any offspring they might have.

An: so yeah I wish I could write this, but I have to many projects and cant, still at least now you know the condensed version.
