i have a clone wars fic that I'm really trying to write, and like the big focus of the fic is Anakin and Obi-Wan the complicated father/son/brother relationship that they have going on. And even though I don't really like fics where Anakin doesn't fall to the dark side (because him falling is like the whole plot of star wars), I have somehow backed myself into writing a fic where by nature of how I want it to go, Anakin can't fall.
the plot of the fic is basically "Obi-Wan and Anakin learn to talk to each other and come to understand one another", but if they had done that in canon, Palps would have had a much harder time swaying Anakin. And the thing about Clone Wars and the Prequels is that all the problems are interconnected. So if I untangle one thread, I have to untangle all the others.
All the characters are doomed. And trying to figure out how to un-doom them is HARD!!!
I'm rewatching clone wars with writer brain on to basically figure out where I can change things, and how those changes would make the characters reflect. Make them see how they are trapped inside of a doomed narrative.
I can't even give them a true happy ending because Palps had so many pieces set in motion. Anakin was only one piece of the puzzle. He was a massive piece, but he wasn't the only one. If Anakin didn't fall, for me the republic would still fall and become the empire. It wouldn't be as powerful of an empire. But it's still a bad ending, only this time Anakin, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan make it out on the other side together.

December, from The Procession of Months (c.1889). All the poems were written by fifteen-year-old Beatrice Crane and illustrated by her acclaimed artist father, Walter Crane.

[TEXT ID: "December" by Beatrice Crane.
Now wildly sweeps the wind
And wildly drives the sleet
DECEMBER fast draws nigh
Wrapped close from head to feet.
Her eyes glance restlessly
From shaken tree to plain,
The dark hair 'neath her hood
Is wet with frozen rain.
Her furry cloak she holds
With one hand round her form,
The other one lifts high
A torch to light the storm
Scance tree or shrub doth cheer
The dreary scene around,
Save for the moaning wind,
There is no other sound.
December's eyes grow sad
And fainter still her tread;
One hears a long, low sight
Which tells the year is dead. /end ID]
