التفت نافارو يميناً و شمالاً، ضرب على الأرضية بحوافره حتى تصاعدت بعض الأتربة ، رفع ذيله عاليا ، لسانه يتدلى ، و أصبحت أنفاسه متقطّعة و متسارعة ، مصحوبة بصوت مخنوق يشبه الشخير و كأن الهواء لا يمرّ إلى الرئتين .

وقت أنطونيو باستقامة بثقة كبيرة ، وجها لوجه مع نافارو .

ربما كانت اللحظة الأخيرة التي تسحب وراءها عاصفة من الاحتمالات.

فتح الثور عينيه عن آخرهما ، هزّ رأسه جيّدا . نظر إلى شفرة السيف في يد المتادور التي ستخترق ، بعد قليل ، الأغشية و القفص الصدري، قبل أن تتوغل في الرئتين اللتين تمتلئان دما ، و يموت الثور اختناقا.

ثم التفت نحو الخرقة الحمراء موليتا ، التي بدأ المتادور أنطونيو في تحريكها في شكل اهتزازات متسارعة لدفع الثور إلى التحرك و الهجوم و استنزاف أنفاسه الأخيرة.

هز نافارو رأسه في الاتجاهين ، ثم اندفع نحو أنطونيو بسرعة محنونة ، زاد صراخ الجمهور من هياجه الكبير . قام الكثيرون من أماكنهم في المدرجات ، يركض نافارو أكثر و هو في حالة هياج قصوى، بلا خوف .
