“i’m not—” carmy starts. “i’m not gay, i don’t—i think i’m just… nothing.”

“nothing,” she repeats. it’s clear that she’s trying to understand; grasping at straws and coming up empty.

“yeah. i don’t—” he takes a breath. “i don’t think i loved claire. i don’t think i love—”

anyone, he wants to say, but he looks at syd and knows that it’s not true.

ok potentially controversial opinion but while I guess I could theoretically see Syd and Carmy having romantic feelings for each other (I am Very Aroace and don't really pick up on romantic tension in real life or in fiction), I honestly can't imagine them being in a relationship would end in any other than complete disaster unless they both — but especially Carmy — had a lot of character development first.
