Marriage troubles

Okay but… Learning that Arle’s curse regressed when she was with Clervie and wasn’t as bad just makes me wonder if that would happen with her s/o.

It’s not obvious at first, but the more time she spends with you, her curse lessens a bit in your presence. It might not completely regress, but maybe it becomes a lighter shade of grey, or maybe it recedes down her arms a bit. I just think it would be incredibly wholesome to be able to make her feel so calm and loved and happy again that her curse could improve in your company, if only even a little bit.

When she’s around the others nobody can tell, but when she comes home to you after a long day, wraps you up in her arms and lets out a sigh of release, her curse wanes as she becomes overwhelmed with peace.

AWW... so cute!! Arlecchino's curse had long covered far up her arm, a stark difference from when she was a child. She already accepted she wouldn't be able to see her lower arms and fingers return to their original color, but she had grown accustomed to it. Not to mention, you were never put off or scared by it, which was the most important part for her.

Arlecchino was a woman who always had her guard up, playing the role of a strict and unfeeling Father, carrying out her Harbinger duties, being the perfect diplomat. With her poised manner, it seemed like this was nothing to her. She even acted this way around you. But only you could see the very tiny holes in her act, when it was just the two of you. In the beginning, she wasn't very receptive to it, not because she was annoyed or anything, but because she simply never felt the things that you made her feel when you held her before. it was a foreign feeling. It was a feeling that was always said to be a hindrance. But when you kept putting your arms around her and nuzzling into her soft hair, she couldn't help but be swayed.

Obviously, she doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve, but, you can tell she appreciates your soothing company. You were probably cuddling with her one day when you noticed her arms seemed different, but you didn't comment on it because you just thought maybe it happens sometimes. But later on Arlie, ever the observant person, notices the ever so slightly receding of the curse. Naturally, she finds it odd, her curse hasn't regressed in so long, and she wants to find the cause. It doesn't take long for her to realize it fluctuates when she comes home to your arms after taking care of "business."

Of course, you feel very happy that you manage to have an effect on such a poker-faced woman. You have solid proof of how much she loves you! And it may not seem like much, but it's more than enough.

Another unrelated thought: When she says not to look into her eyes, because you may not like what you see. But reader isn't scared in the slightest and continues to stare right into them anyway. Arlecchino finds your boldness amusing but tells you not to be so reckless...

I think it's very cute, being able to be her solace after everything she's been through.

putting my thoughts under the cut in case people dont want to spoil themself on arle voicelines

currently obsessed with the view our current harbingers have of the Tsaritsa. both childe and arlecchino greatly respect her even if arlecchino is dubiously loyal to the Tsaritsa at best. they both talk about her as a figure who is gentle and compassionate, completely at odds with both the organization she allows to commit horrible acts (dottore. its a lot of dottore. he canonically took children from the hoth under the old knave if they were no longer considered "useful" and used as test subjects). shes described as someone with no love left for her people yet the harbingers we've heard talk about her never seem to describe her in such a manner. of course, childe mentions she had to harden herself to complete her goal, but he still notes that shes too gentle. the more we learn about her the more i want to meet her purely because she is contradictions all the way down and its great!!! taking whatever scraps i can get and its perfectly in line with my characterization too so i stay winning

You KNOW she wants to tell her children how proud she is of them. How she wants to know what they're up to and what they like. How she wants to be a real caring father. How she wants to always ask "are you okay? Do you need help? What can I do for you?"

But she can't care. Caring is a lie, and being cared for makes you vulnerable. She has to be strong, because she must protect her children. She must protect her children, so she cannot feel cared by them. However, the children must care for each other, so they can be strong.

They cannot care for me, because they must be strong without me. They should not care for me, only fear me, for that is how they will survive without me.

yknow based on freminet’s emphasis on being controlled & the director’s weapon vs making his own decisions, and looking at xiao’s everything, if one of the house of hearth kids is going to betray the fatui/join the traveler i’d kinda expect it to be him

lyney's character story about his vision revealing arlecchino didn't allow him to use a delusion and was genuinely angry that he would do something lynette wouldn't want for him, encouraging him to find other solutions... the way she was also sad lyney didn't feel comfortable relying on her during the quest... she really cares about the kids. her smile while speaking to furina also looked sincere. even though one can debate if this is all an act to make them trust and be loyal to her (as said by her, "good actors hone their craft to mesmerise the whole crowd") or acknowledge the fact she's using the kids by making them part of the fatui, she genuinely seems to cherish them. at least she goes through lengths that aren't really necessary for her not to care. the way she reformed the orphanage, the way she helped freminet get closure on his mother's fate... i just think it goes to show and confirm once more how biased everything/everyone in the game is. sometimes bordering unreliable, really. scara and childe's lines about her paint her in a certain light, which i'm not saying isn't true quite the opposite, but that persona seems to coexists with the version the kids from the house of the hearth know.

A "Father's" False "Love"

Forwarning: I am going to be talking about some heavy subject matter, if this upsets you, turn back.

A bit earlier, I reblogged some (really good) fanart of Genshin Impact, specifically, of the Fontaine Twins and Arlecchino, and in the tags I said this:

I also mentioned that Scaramouche/The Wanderer had not nice things to say regarding her, and this is what he has to say:

I wanted to elaborate on what I said back there based on some research I did on child exploitation (The only form I knew of was grooming up till now) for a prediction regarding this bitch basically.

Initially, I assumed that she was guilty of some form of grooming, but then my research made it abundantly clear that she was not, and it was in fact a DIFFERENT form of child exploitation that she was guilty of: so let's talk about child criminal exploitation (CCE for short, I will be using that from now on).

Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) is when an individual manipulates an exploits someone (A minor in the case of CCE but anyone can be a victim of this) with the intent of using the individual for criminal activity. What are the Fatui guys even doing? Well they are basically war criminals: the army so I think you can see where this is going. Arlecchino is basically exploiting children and manipulating them with the intent of turning them into war criminals. Hell, in the Sumeru area, there is a questline that involves ANOTHER House of Hearth kid who was ordered by Dottore to kidnap children in order to capture an aranara to experiment on! Crimes that he (if I remember correctly) feels an obligation to do likely for "Father's" sake, despite the fact that he doesn't like it. I think it is safe to say that she is exploiting children for criminal purposes here.

But now to the "tool" thing. Does Arlecchino truly love the Hearth orphans, or does she just see then based on how she can use them? From what Scara and Childe had to say, I feel it is the latter. WHile we have yet to meet her, the fact that she is guilty of CCE and the fact that Scara calls her "a wolf in sheeps clothing" and implies she is controlling, doubled with Childe thinking of her as treacherous, I think it might be safe to say that her affectionate nature to the Heath orphans might just be an act. Considering how children are manipulated by people with malicious intent (which she definitely has) I think one reason she might be so sugary to them is because that makes them love her, and want to please her, thus making them easier to manipulate. The same goes to her taking Lyney and Lynette in specifically. They were victims of abuse before they ended up with her, and I think Arlecchino saw that she could exploit them because of it, love-bombing them and acting like she cares about them. Sad, no? This would mean that they thought they had escaped abuse, only to still end up in the clutches of an abuser....
