All for her Scarlet Smile (MCU/007)
Yelena Belova imagined many different things when she was tasked with assassinating a former Avenger, she imagined traveling back in time... Traveling through space... Tearing through ancient temples, and battling green giants. What Yelena did not expect was sneaking through suburbia while wearing what essentially amounted to a tinfoil hat.
Val had briefed her a few days ago about the situation, about the small town of Westview, a little haven of normality cracked open to reveal the extraordinary. S.W.O.R.D. had paid the citizens to leave and then converted the entire place into a massive research facility and living quarters for its permanent staff. Their goal was to research the effects of reality manipulation and find a way to reverse engineer such a thing in the long term.
The research was slow, bordering stagnant and what little results they did have made very little sense to them. It seemed that they were playing with forces they had no hope of understanding, at least at first, but over months and through a process that Yelena did not have security access to view, they somehow managed to do the impossible, they discovered a way to exorcise certain particles left by Wanda Maximoff, they managed to exploit their unique properties and hack into the very fabric of existence itself.
The Director of S.W.O.R.D. , a man called Henry McCoy, dreamt of a world united under kindness, love, and acceptance. The Secretary of Defense, a Miss Victoria Hand dreamt of one nation under complete control and its enemies weeping for forgiveness. Even President Ritson apparently had ambitions of molding rivals in his own political party and rewriting those naysayers into his own loyal allies.
No fantasies came to pass of course, the hack wasn't what they had hoped for, it wasn't a way to harness Wanda's power, as it turned out, Wanda's reality manipulation abilities were somewhat symbiotic in nature, you can't have one without the other. What the scientists had done was create a backup version of Wanda from these particles.
The Backup Wanda was a prisoner for three whole hours before S.W.O.R.D. lost control of Westview, before the force fields went up and the broadcasts began again. This time the audience expanded from what used to be small local areas with old fashioned equipment to every channel on the entire East Coast. Thankfully most people just assumed it was a Cheers reboot and that Wanda had sold out like most other celebrities did.
Some viewers loved her, idolised her, others hated her and review bombed the show, but all watched, every Thursday at seven thirty. Changes started slowly, started obviously, a surge in eighties fashion, a fondness for somewhat classic expressions, both fairly normal for a new television series. It became problematic however when the viewers refused to sleep, when they started acting out their own storylines and attacking anyone who got in the way of their creative vision. Their own personalities became completely disassociative, entirely embodying their new character instead. Entire cities were thrown into raging chaos.
Fontaine's Thunderbolt Initiative was contacted by the FBI who had been "supporting" S.W.O.R.D. since the end of the last season of Wandavision. Yelena was designated the optimal operative for a mess like this. Forty two hours later, she was escorted to the border of Westview by two so-called "Mutants" One gifted with intangibility, the other some kind of psychic soldier, they helped her skip through the force field without alerting anybody. Since then Yelena had been trying to stay as covert as she could while wearing a silver reflective hat, a portable anti mind control device, according to the Thunderbolts Tech team.
The streets of Westview were cozily serene, with only soft lights from the windows of picturesque homes and the only noise the sounds of horny Crickets chirping from their immaculate lawns.
Only one place in town was the exception to Westview's quiet calm. Just off the town square stood a three storey, booming public drinking establishment. A colorful sign outside confirmed the place to be "The Wanda and Vision Pub" - the 'set' for the second season of Wandavision... and with any luck, the place Wanda would finally find peace with what she has done.
Yelena unholstered her Glock 26 and headed around to the back of the building. Fighting Wanda head on would be suicide, she'd need to be smart, end the story before Wanda even knew what had happened.
The pub's backyard was no less idyllic than the rest of the town, with a little garden, a seesaw, and even an old oak tree with a tire swing hanging from it. All of it reminded Yelena of Ohio, of her Mom and Dad... and Natasha. Warm summer nights when she was tiny, barbeque parties under the stars with their neighbors. The smell of sizzling hot dogs and the American spicy sauce.
Yelena shook away the memories of yesterday and turned toward the problems of today. The pub had a second floor window ajar, letting out warm light from within. A kitchen, maybe?
Yelena was just about to make a start on climbing up the drainpipe when someone from behind her broke their silence.
"I really wouldn't do that"
Yelena snapped around, expecting instant death but instead, thankfully she only found a young black woman smoking a cigarette by the tall oak tree. Had this woman always been there? Lurking in the shadows?
"Sorry" Yelena retracted in her best Jersey accent "I was just checking the guttering"
"By trying to climb it?" teased the other woman with her silky smooth British accent, before putting her cigarette out on the poor tree.
"Me, climb that thing?" Yelena played dumb "Nah, only in the daydreams I imagine I'm Ellen Ripley, heh"
"Good thing too" the Brit approached but still kept a respectful enough distance "Wanda only keeps that window open for... let's say 'out of towners' who are stupid enough to try and break in... it leads somewhere incredibly hot, I think"
Shit. Beginner's trap. Yelena should not have let her mind wander before.
Yelena noticed the other woman didn't stand like a civilian, she had a trained commanding posture like that of a soldier or a marine. She didn't belong in this picture of sanitized television suburbia.
"Do you know Wanda?" Yelena asked, carefully
The Brit shrugged her shoulders "Only by reputation... I'm not really supposed to be here, you know? So shhh"
Not supposed to be in this town? Or in this episode? The plot thickened.
"Then why are you here" Yelena asked with as much playfulness as she could muster, she was trying not to be the first to give something away
"Well... I was told that Westview was the only place we could speak privately, Yelena"
Fuck. Shit. Damn. This wasn't good.
Now came the crossroads to either double down and use an alias or cut through the bullshit.
"Who are you?" Yelena dropped the accent and inched toward grabbing range
The other woman backed up, just slightly before giving her a beautifully cocky smirk, she was gorgeous, aesthetically speaking of course, Yelena never found herself attracted to anyone but she certainly understood the concept of beauty and the person in front of her was just that.
"British Secret Intelligence Service, Agent 007, Call me Nomi"
Oh no, the new 007. Yelena had heard about this one and the chaos she unleashed in Paris earlier this year. The United Kingdom still owed the French the rebuilding cost of Elysee Palace because of this 007. She was a frustratingly uncompromising lateral thinker and tactician. She managed to root out a conspiracy to overthrow the President of France and install a new Emperor. Yelena's sources told her that Nomi was personally responsible for the destruction of the building after a series of hostile parleying with the would-be Emperor and his militia reached boiling point.
"You aren't here to explode Maximoff, are you? That's kind of my job" Yelena taunted, smugly
"Wouldn't dream of it" Nomi dismissed the very idea "I really wasn't sent here to interfere in your mission, just to propose a new opportunity to you"
"I'm intrigued"
"British Intelligence is forming a new division, one to deal with the unusual, the bizarre, the supernatural... like this Pub and its Landlady"
"You came all the way out here to this hell town to pitch me a team? I'm already on one"
"Who? The Renford Rejects?"
"That isn't very nice" Yelena chastised, half heartedly
"I'm sorry but dollar store Captain America and Apple Mac Vision don't really strike fear into my heart"
"You aren't winning me over, you know"
"You'd be team leader"
"I have too much anxiety already" Yelena shot down
"No more killing"
"Well that has to be a lie, I'm an assassin, it's what I'm best at, it's why people like your bosses would even consider me"
"You're more than that to them, they know what you did for the Black Widows, they're impressed"
"I work well alone"
"You'd work better with us... Especially in light of your sister's wishes"
Yelena's blood ran cold.
"What are you talking about? My sister's wishes?"
Nomi mimed zipping her lips shut.
"I think I've already said too much as it is... The choice is yours, once you sign the Official Secrets Act, we can give you a proper debrief on Ms. Romanoff's final message"
Yelena didn't want to play the sick games that governments played with their little pawn agents. Being a part of Lafontaine's circus was bad enough and she was independent for the most part. No, no. No more nonsense, if Natasha actually left her a message, she would have it now.
Yelena raised her Widow's Bite wrist strap at Nomi but before she could even get a threatening ultimatum out of her mouth, the Brit opened fire from a concealed weapon.
The 00 agent had good aim, the bullet tore right through the Widow's Bite device, the intricate mechanisms inside sparked and burned against Yelena's flesh. Yelena had no choice but to tear it off, still she supposed that it could still serve a purpose.
Yelena threw the melting Widow's Bite in Nomi's face before attempting to tackle the English woman to the ground, however Nomi must've been expecting this as Yelena found her own skull redirected immediately to the side of the nearby metal slide.
It hurt to say the least but Yelena had no time to waste, she activated the blade function on her remaining gauntlet and tore a chunk out of Nomi's face with it. The Brit staggered and was rewarded with an elbow to the face for her momentary lack of concentration.
Yelena forced her down to the lawn, making another deep gash in Nomi's face, this time with the discarded smoldering scrap metal that used to be the Widow's Bite. Nomi didn't even give Yelena the satisfaction of screaming, instead her next move was only telegraphed by a sting in the side of Yelena's neck. Nomi had punchered her skin with a syringe full of blue liquid.
Before Nomi could press her thumb down on the syringe top, a furious voice rang out behind them.
"Cut that out, right now!"
Yelena and Nomi spared a nervous glance to the figure standing at the back door of the Pub, she was bathed in scarlet light. They both knew who she was, They both knew what she could do.
Yelena didn't even need to check to know that her tinfoil hat was gone. It must've fallen off in the fight.
O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O
Making your way in the world today takes everything you got, you know? Taking a break from all your worries sure does help a lot. Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, that's reassuring, friendly and warm, just like the little Pub that Maria Nomi found herself spending her Friday evening in.
So many sweet and kind people just enjoying each other's company. From teenagers, like the proprietors' twin sons, pouring their pocket money into an old Donkey Kong arcade machine with their friends, to elderly visitors like old Captain Rogers and his wife Peggy enjoying their early bird special together, this Pub was a bastion of the community.
"Anything else I can get for ya, old bean?" Agnes the bartender ribbed, bringing Maria back to the moment
"Some pork scratchings?" Maria asked, hopefully
"For the millionth time, you're not in England anymore, here let me introduce you to a good ol fashioned American Lay"
Maria blushed but soon came to realize that Agnes just meant a packet of potato chips. Quietly thanking the lady, she took her drinks and chips over to the table she shared with her best friend Yelena.
Being the only two foreign exchange students at Westview High, Maria and Yelena immediately had a rivalry, it got a little out of hand when Maria discovered some secrets about Yelena's sister Natasha but throughout the years and with the help of a shared friend, the two eventually broke through their childish nonsense and became besties.
"Hey loser!" Yelena greeted
Maria grinned and rolled her eyes before depositing the Russian's Banana Daiquiri on a coaster beside her. Maria took a straw from the Viking statue on the table and made a start on her own glass of Sorrel tea.
"So... her blonde BFF began, a little awkwardly "Kate told me that you have a new girlfriend"
Ugh, Maria only told Yelena's partner Kate about Eve to stop her setting her up with some stiff arsed suit from her office.
"Don't worry" Yelena tried to reassure her "My... interrogation of your potential lover won't be as intense as the last one"
"You say that but then I catch you buying torture devices from Channel 616"
"Hey!" Yelena giggled "Those are gifts for Kate Bishop, she is into all that stuff and even though I do not partake, I do enjoy gifting her various pieces of equipment because I love her and support her... And also it is hilarious to see the look on her face when I hand it to her"
Thankfully Maria was spared any more information by the chime of the welcome bell over the wooden doors to the Pub.
"Hey everyone!" A silver haired young man greeted
"Peter!" Every single Pub patron called back
"It's Pietro" Peter Maximoff grumbled, the brother of the landlady never did like his nickname but it stuck when he was running track in High School.
"Can I get you a drink, Mister Maximoff" Agnes asked
"After the day I've had I could do with something strong and manly to keep me on my feet and drown my sorrows"
"Whiskey, neat?"
"Nah a true warrior's drink... like an appletini but real easy on the tini, I'm working tomorrow"
"Sparkling Apple juice it is, Pete"
Turning her attention back to her companion, Maria caught Yelena staring at Vision Maximoff, the landlady's husband, as he dined with his wife and kids in a booth at the far end of the Pub.
"Yelena Bolova, are you making eyes at a married man?"
Yelena snapped her gaze away, she looked as if she was starting to tear up.
"No, No, sorry, I was just... daydreaming"
Maria put two and two together.
"Hold the front page..." she lowered her voice, conspiratorially "Are you and Kate thinking about starting a family?"
"Kate?" Yelena sounded confused "Kate Bishop...?"
"No duh, your little non romantic, non sexual, holiday obsessed soulmate... I'm right aren't I? You want to have a baby with her"
"Yes, no, I don't know" Yelena stuttered, weakly, that Banana Daiquiri must've went straight to her head
"Don't worry, old buddy, my lips are sealed"
Maria mimed zipping her mouth shut. Yelena's eyes widened like she just saw something that broke her brain.
"We need to get out of here" Yelena whispered, almost desperately
"Time gentlemen please" Agnes called for last orders "That also goes for ladies and non binary folks too"
Maria took another sip of her Sorrel tea, cool, tangy and delicious. She could almost feel the sun touch her face as she closed her eyes and relaxed.
Yelena would only let Maria savor one brief moment alone, her Russian bestie put her hand on top of hers. Maria couldn't help but smile, she was so lucky to have Yelena in her life, she was the best friend anyone could ever ask for.
Yelena dug her nails deep into Maria's hand, causing the English woman to cry out in pain. Her hand was a bleeding mess.
Everyone in the Pub turned to them to see what the problem was. Maria noticed something scary about their reactions, their expressions were frozen, they seemed so cold and calculating, like wild animals waiting to pounce. They didn't even blink.
"Oh no, you have cut yourself on a glass" Yelena fawned over Maria "Come back to my place and we can get that fixed up lickity split and watch some MTV too, I think Queen have a new song in the Top 20"
All of the Pub patrons immediately lost interest and went back to their business, like they had just been unpaused. Maria didn't know what was going on but she also didn't want to either. She nodded to Yelena before draining her Sorrel tea and wishing Agnes a good night.
"Hey, come back anytime you want, honey, we're open every Thursday"
Maria could've sworn that the Pub was open every day but she allowed herself to be led away by Yelena. She had major league questions for her best friend when they got outside.
Yelena pulled the doors open and marched out into the night air, she didn't stop walking. Maria hadn't seen her this determined and secretive since Kate's last Halloween Scavenger Hunt. Wait... Maria was sure she wasn't there for that, so how did she know what Yelena was like during it? In fact, now that she thought about it, she couldn't picture Kate's face in her mind.
The further Maria and Yelena walked, the more came back to Maria. She and Yelena weren't best friends, they weren't friends at all, they hadn't met before this night... Maria was a spy... a killer... an assassin... They both were.
Wanda Maximoff, she did something to them. Maria turned sharply, catching Yelena off guard. She looked back at the Pub. It was gone, replaced by a postmodern building about two storeys taller.
The entire town seemed to shimmer, Suburbia disappeared in the blink of an eye, replaced by ugly makeshift office blocks and uniformed trailers. Westview was back to being a research town again.
Yelena pulled Maria back by her hair.
"We keep walking until we are out, understand?"
Maria slipped out of her grip but nodded in agreement, they needed to get out of Westview. They were compromised. A new plan would have to be made and executed. Moneypenny would never let her live this one down.
O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O
Wanda Maximoff sighed with satisfaction after finishing her meal. She squeezed her husband's hand, gently and watched as their two boys ran back to their video game cabinet. It was moments like these that she felt especially proud of them setting up the Pub. It was hard work and not always a barrel of laughs, like today for instance when she caught Maria and Yelena fighting, these two girls she had known since High School, squabbling like they were still in the twelfth grade. Thankfully Wanda was able to channel her best paragon of the community/den mother persona and was able to bring them both back together. She had a feeling that they would treat each other with a little more kindness in the future.
Wanda's brother, Pietro took a seat next to her and reached out to hold her free hand. He was such a sweetie.
"I know this won't make sense to you... but I have no regrets, no matter what happens next"
Pietro was right, she didn't know what he meant, Pietro was always a curious one,but his sentiment soothed a little pain in her heart that she didn't even know existed. Wanda briefly wondered why his eyes were glowing red, but soon found herself busy talking to leaving customers, while her husband went off to make a start on the dishes.
O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O
Pietro sipped on his sparkling apple juice, he couldn't afford to drink anything alcoholic with all of the energy he was expending to keep this Pub afloat.
Tonight's invasion proved one thing, they couldn't stay in Westview any longer. Pietro had already released his hold on the exterior illusion, now all he had to do was create a breach in reality that could take him and his... family... to another place, somewhere quiet where no one would try to hurt them.
It had been six months since the lie that was Ralph Bohner was broken wide open. Four months since he volunteered for S.W.O.R.D.'s reality altering program. Two weeks since he received his sister's powers. Pietro knew Wanda was dead, he could feel it in his soul. He didn't know how or why but he knew she was gone. Pietro couldn't stand the idea of living in a world without her. Why should he get a second chance if she's not around to share it? Why would he want to?
This entire Pub/bubble/ interactive sitcom was Pietro's tribute to Wanda and he would keep it going... keep her memory alive... until his last day.
Banishing the dark thoughts from his mind, Pietro allowed himself some levity by pondering the next season of Wandavision. Maybe they'd do a medical comedy theme, he was sure he could create a pretend Hospital somewhere. He considered his alcohol free appletini. Wanda as the tough, old school mentor doctor. Vision as the sensitive newbie, just out of Med School. Both leads find themselves breaking down their own walls and bonding over the fact that they care so much about their patients. Pietro could play the slapstick morgue attendant.
The kids could both be adopted early on, separately by Wanda and Vision because they realize the boys, their former patients, are long lost twins and want them to still be in each other's lives... Want them both to have their second chances together...
It was all coming together. Maybe this time around people would even start calling him Pietro.
"Don't think too hard, baby brother" said the imaginary version of his sister "You'll give yourself a headache"
Pietro looked up to see his sister towering over him with a fresh sparkling apple juice. She nuzzled his head affectionately. He rose from his seat and pulled her into a hug.
"It'd be worth it, just to see you smile"

What is the most toxic LI for you and who's the opposite of them???
I’ve always held a grudge against
-Kaitlyn Liao for her perpetually bratty, ungrateful, immature, shitty attitude towards acquaintances, her friends, and the MC (something I never forgot: if MC rejects Kaitlyn’s flirtations in the club, Kaitlyn pitches a fit and acts super offended and put off)
-Victoria Fontaine for physically assaulting the MC
-Sam Dalton because they are EERILY similar to my abusive ex
-Reagan Thorne because they’re in a position of power and preying on the MC, a vulnerable woman
-Poppy Min-Sinclair, but I’ve talked about her enough already
-Marc Antony because he was so lecherous and creepy and honestly there was nothing appealing about his route at ALL
-Maxwell Beaumont because he was actually a really good guy at first, but PB turned him into a selfish, self-aggrandizing asshole who embellished stories about his friends for HIS benefit while making himself out to be the hero through all the chaos (also let’s not forget how during his public book reading he literally had Liam re-enact his father’s ASSASSINATION)
So…yeah. There are love interests I strongly dislike because they’re annoying, their personalities bother me, and so on. But I dislike these love interests in particular because they are toxic. They are genuinely bad people.
As for the opposite of toxic…
-King Liam because he is a genuinely kind, caring individual who loves his kingdom and his friends, and if MC marries him, he is DEEPLY in love with her and treats her like the queen she is
-Lily Spencer because she’s not only funny, friendly, and super down-to-earth: she is mentally, emotionally, and socially healthy. She takes time for herself and admits when she’s not okay after a traumatic event. She is very open about her emotions. And in book one if you turn down the threesome with her and Jax, she checks in to make sure the MC is okay and wants to make sure she didn’t make her feel uncomfortable in any way. Basically, she’s a strong character
-Tomoichi Sato because after the incredibly traumatic events he experienced in Westchester, Tom moved to a whole new town ALONE to study the supernatural and try to put a stop to it solely because he didn’t want anyone else to get hurt or die, no matter how risky it was for him. Tom is selfless as fuck and it KILLS me that he doesn’t get more love
-Bryce Lahela. Disclaimer: I personally did not at all feel inclined to romance him, but Bryce stuck by the MC from literally day one at Edenbrook. He was their hype man and always gave them sound advice or a pep talk when they needed it. He also took it upon himself to take care of his little sister even though he was going through a lot at work
-Tevan Drammir. Another disclaimer: I personally think Tevan works better as Kenna’s close friend rather than love interest, but he is still such a great character. At first, he‘s not wild to learn that Kenna practices swordsmanship, but after she saves his life, he comes to his senses and is like “oh yeah, I fucked up” before immediately becoming one of Kenna’s fiercest, most loyal allies. He rectifies his mistake by treating her with not just respect, but reverence: Kenna is, as he states, his favorite warrior queen
-Mira Banerji because she starts off as Jess’s (RoE sister) rival at work, but when Jess goes through her pregnancy scare, Mira immediately catches on and sets aside any animosity to help her through it because she remembers what she went through with her pregnancy. And when I say help her through it, Mira is there for Jess the whole time. To set aside a rivalry to help someone you don’t know or necessarily even like through a scary and potentially traumatic experience is top-notch behavior
Granted, I didn’t romance some of these love interests, but I listed them because they’re some of the best, most genuine love interests in the game.

My MC: (sweet, non-confrontational response)
Me: What’s it like being bitter, mean, petty and constantly negative? Does it ever get exhausting, reinforcing ageist and sexist stereotypes in the movie industry with your piss poor attitude?

Red Carpet Diaries 3 LI Breakdown - Or How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love Chazz
Alright, now that this book is coming to a close (probably 3 chapters left? who knows how all 87 random plotlines will get tied up!), I was looking through some of my RCD3 recordings for a fic I’m writing, and I felt compelled to document how often my MC has gotten a chance to see Seth, her fiance, face to face.
Vacation in Hawaii (Chapter 1 into Chapter 2, all LIs present)
Seth shows up unannounced to audition for MC’s movie; Diamond scene to celebrate casting him in Ninradell with option to make out in Ryan Summer’s pool (Chapter 5, Hunt and Matt also present)
Seth reads lines on set for Ragnar auditions; Diamond scene with Seth’s poster from his first comedy show (Chapter 7)
Spend the night at Seth’s after stalker breaks into MC’s home (Chapter 8, defaults to everyone’s main LI)
First day of filming, quick chat in trailer, MC gives minimal advice on set after Teja rips into him (Chapter 9)
Enchantland with everyone, diamond scene make out option during fireworks (Chapter 10, diamond scene defaults to main LI)
Superfan con meet up and panel; Diamond scene to walk around the convention hall, but minimal romantic/personal dialogue as scene is focused on PB Easter Eggs and boosting Seth’s confidence as an actor (Chapter 11)
Return to set after staying away due to stalker, brief hug when nearly killed by lighting fixture (Chapter 13, Teja also present)
So, this felt like a really minuscule amount of time with a “locked-in” LI, but I decided to actually be empirical about this and compare opportunities with Seth to the other four LIs, as well as Chazz for shits and giggles. Buckle in folks, this is a lengthy one. It is also the end result when insomnia meets frustration at storytelling decisions.
I looked at time spent with Victoria next, as she has been insanely paywalled in books 1 and 2:
Vacation in Hawaii (Chapter 1 into Chapter 2, all LIs present)
Head over to Victoria’s after tabloid photos leak where we meet Arianna; Diamond scene to go to gardens and extend time together (Chapter 5)
Spend the night at Victoria’s after stalker breaks into MC’s home (Chapter 8, defaults to everyone’s main LI)
Victoria’s charity ball with more Arianna drama; Diamond scene to sneak away for a private romantic moment (Chapter 8)
Enchantland with everyone, diamond scene makeout option during fireworks (Chapter 10, diamond scene defaults to main LI)
Help Victoria track down Arianna; Diamond scene to cook dinner together (Chapter 12)
Next up is Teja, as female LIs are often less present than male LIs:
Vacation in Hawaii (Chapter 1 into Chapter 2, all LIs present)
Coffee with Teja where she gets hired as director; Diamond option for wedding cake tasting (Chapter 4)
Helps run auditions for William (Chapter 5)
Set visit with Marianne to look at set dressing and audition people for Ragnar; Diamond scene to take a hike and destress Teja (Chapter 7)
Spend the night at Teja’s after stalker breaks into MC’s home (Chapter 8, defaults to everyone’s main LI)
First day of filming, chat in editing bay, Teja frazzled and demanding on set (Chapter 9)
Enchantland with everyone, diamond scene makeout option during fireworks (Chapter 10, diamond scene defaults to main LI)
Superfan con meet up and panel; Diamond scene with movie poster (Chapter 11)
Return to set after staying away due to stalker, Teja channeling Markus then breaks down and requires comforting after MC almost dies and ends up quitting the movie; Diamond scene to go to cartoon movies (Chapter 13)
Alright, now to get to Thomas Hunt, who was added by popular demand and the only LI to get a new look this book:
Vacation in Hawaii (Chapter 1 into Chapter 2, all LIs present)
Diamond scene in art gallery with romantic options (Chapter 3)
Breakfast at diner; Diamond scene to extend time together and help him brainstorm (Chapter 4)
Diamond scene where you can run into him at Ryan Summer’s party, option to make out in his pool (Chapter 5, Seth and Matt also present)
Spend the night at Hunt’s after stalker breaks into MC’s home (Chapter 8, defaults to everyone’s main LI)
Meet up at cemetery where Hunt continues to whine about his lost creative spark; diamond scene to go on outdoor movie date (Chapter 8)
Enchantland with everyone, diamond scene makeout option during fireworks (Chapter 10, diamond scene defaults to main LI)
Hunt comes over for breakfast; Diamond scene to select wedding food (Chapter 12)
Bookstore trip where Hunt refuses provide any advice; diamond scene for modeling poster (Chapter 13)
And Matt, the “official” LI of the series:
Vacation in Hawaii (Chapter 1 into Chapter 2, all LIs present)
Diamond scene at Matt’s house to help him with his character motivations, presumed options for romance (Chapter 3)
Diamond scene where you can run into him at Ryan Summer’s party, option to make out in his pool (Chapter 5, Seth and Hunt also present)
Fly down to Mexico together, where he promptly locks himself in his bedroom, one which he does not share with his fiance (Chapter 6)
Walk around estate/into barn with diamond option for his movie poster scene (Chapter 6)
Discussion of baseball hat left by stalker (Chapter 7)
Spend the night at Matt’s after stalker breaks into MC’s home (Chapter 8, defaults to everyone’s main LI)
Diamond scene helicopter date (Chapter 9)
Enchantland with everyone, diamond scene makeout option during fireworks (Chapter 10, diamond scene defaults to main LI)
Finally, we have our MC’s “best friend” and painfully unneeded agent, Chazz:
Talk show appearance prior to vacation (Chapter 1)
Announce engagement after returning from Hawaii; Diamond Scene option to choose a wedding locale together; Diamond Scene with HS playbill (Chapter 2)
Chazz gives tips for meeting with Marianne (Chapter 3)
Flight to Mexico, heart to heart while horseback riding (Chapter 6)
Diamond scene to go out with him and Addison (Chapter 6)
Breakfast at the Rodriguez estate after stalker shows up at edge of estate (Chapter 7)
He brings food to set; diamond scene to choose wedding invites (Chapter 7)
Brings donuts to LI’s home, takes to hire bodyguard (Chapter 8)
Enchantland with everyone (Chapter 10)
Diamond scene to choose flowers for wedding (Chapter 10)
Chazz and Crash come over to keep MC company; Diamond scene for Chadley’s movie poster (Chapter 12)
So, Chazz is absolutely more present than any of the LIs and actually has more diamond scenes than all the LIs except for Hunt, who has the most at 7. Victoria is the least present, followed by Seth, both of whom only have four diamond options (Of note, I did not include Victoria’s movie poster scene as a diamond scene for her as she was not physically present at all. If you count that as a Victoria diamond scene, Seth holds the title of least diamond scenes all by himself.)
Hunt is clearly the money maker as nearly every time he pops up, there is a diamond scene. He and Matt are about equally present in the story. Surprisingly, Teja is about as present as both of those men, but numerous appearances for her are interacting with her on set and contain minimal, if any, personal interactions. This will presumably become more imbalanced next chapter when Hunt and Matt go to Iowa with MC.
Seth is slightly more present than Victoria, but much like Teja, numerous appearances for him occur on set and are not personal.
So, what’s the TL;DR here? Maybe that Victoria romancers are particularly justified in their continued annoyance with the paucity of content for her? And that Seth romancers are also fairly reasonably justified? Really though, other than Hunt who at least gets a ton of diamond scenes, all the LIs are pushed aside in favor of Chazz. And I get that it is cheaper to write the book this way, @playchoices, I really do. But it does not make for good storytelling. Why not charge players diamonds to bring their chosen LI home to Iowa like you did with the Cordonia location shoot in book 2? That should help offset the cost of writing 5 different scenes somewhat and would have the benefit of not pissing off as many of your readers. As someome who is only buying Seth scenes in this book, I can tell you guys that you are making less money off me than you did in books 1 and 2, where I would sometimes buy scenes with other LIs, even just to play platonically. But here, spending diamonds largely feels like a waste.

So we can pay a visit to Seth and Teja for free, and breathe the same air as Matt practically the entire time, but we're not allowed to see Victoria without paying? That's precisely why I don't like Red Carpet Diaries.

Though hardly “progressive,” Harris – much like another 2020 hopeful, Elizabeth Warren – has sought to cast herself as such in recent years in an effort to unite a fractured Democratic party by publicly catering to progressives while also privately catering to special interests, including the Israel lobby.
In this two-part series, MintPress News will examine how Harris is set to emulate much of Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 campaign — particularly the distinction between her “private” and “public” positions — while using identity politics to her advantage. This has already begun, with Harris having courted past Hillary campaign staffers and millionaire donors alike. In addition, top establishment liberals like Joy Ann Reid of MSNBC and Clinton advisor Neera Tanden are claiming that legitimate criticism of, and a lack of enthusiasm for, a Harris presidential run on the part of progressives stem from “racism” and “sexism” among left-leaning Americans — reviving the Clinton campaign’s “Bernie bros” narrative that characterizes Bernie Sanders-supporting progressive voters as “all-white” and “all-male.”
One of the clearest examples of Harris’ practice of courting special interests in private while painting a different picture in public is her position on the Israel/Palestine conflict. While Harris once, in 2012 while serving as California’s attorney general, stood up to Israeli government pressure to persecute activists working with the pro-Palestinian rights movement Boycott, Divest, Sanctions (BDS), she made a concerted effort to court pro-Israel interests as she began to pursue her higher political ambitions, namely when she kicked off her 2016 campaign for the Senate.
Since then, Harris has sought to keep a public persona of neutrality on the divisive issue by evasively responding to questions on the issue or avoiding them altogether. At the same time, Harris has been privately pandering to Israel lobby groups in “off-the-record” speeches and during trips to Israel that she and her staff chose not to publicize. This clearly reflects the image that Harris seeks to build of herself as a “progressive centrist” candidate, meaning one who cultivates a public persona of progressivism while also supporting many of the hallmark policies of establishment “centrist” Democrats and courting the mega-donors of the Democratic Party.
 A quiet courtship
Once her 2016 Senate campaign was underway, Harris made it clear that she was willing to “look the other way” when it comes to the human-rights abuses regularly inflicted on Palestinians by the state of Israel. That year, in a questionnaire from Jewish News of Northern California, Harris asserted that “Lasting peace [between Israel and Palestine] can only be found through bilateral negotiations that protect Israel’s identity, ensure security for all people and include the recognition of Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state” — i.e., a Jewish ethnostate that gives other ethnoreligious backgrounds an “inferior” status.
In that same questionnaire, Harris also praised Israel’s Supreme Court, which has helped to enshrine apartheid and also legalized the targeted assassinations of hundreds of Palestinians during intifadas (uprisings), as “a beautiful home to democracy and justice in a region where radicalism and authoritarianism all too often shape government.”
Harris went on to resoundingly reject the non-violent BDS movement, stating:
The BDS movement seeks to weaken Israel but it will only isolate the nation and steer Israelis against prerequisite compromises for peace. At a time when anti-Semitism is on the rise – especially in Europe – and the Middle East is growing increasingly unstable, I believe we should not isolate Israel, the only democracy in the region.”
In 2017, a few months after winning her Senate seat, Harris gave her first public address to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), in which she stated:
I believe Israel should never be a partisan issue, and as long as I’m a United States senator, I will do everything in my power to ensure broad and bipartisan support for Israel’s security and right to self-defense.”
Several months later, Harris quietly visited Israel, a trip that she did not post on her website or social media accounts but that was instead announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and another Israeli politician, Yair Lapid, via social media. During the trip, Harris also briefly visited 10 female students at Al-Quds University in the occupied West Bank, where she asked the students whether Israel’s massive separation wall posed “a real barrier” to their movement.
Though her trip to Israel and photo-op with Netanyahu raised some concern, Harris’ decision to court pro-Israel interests has since grown substantially. Much as with her Israel trip though, the California senator has sought to court these interests just out of public view. For instance, in March of last year, Harris spoke to the Israel lobby organization AIPAC at an event called “A Conversation with Senator Kamala Harris.” The event was not listed on the AIPAC conference’s program or website, nor was it promoted by Harris herself. AIPAC Director of Communications Beth Robbins later confirmed to the Intercept that Senator Harris’ remarks were part of “an off-the-record session.”
Though the transcript of her remarks was never made public, one anecdote shared by a participant in the session recounted how Harris had, as a child, helped fundraise for the Jewish National Fund (JNF) “to plant trees in Israel” as opposed to selling Girl Scout cookies or something similar. However, it’s unlikely that Harris mentioned at this gathering that JNF pine plantations are largely used to cover and effectively erase the bulldozed remnants of Palestinian villages that were destroyed by the state of Israel soon after its founding.
In addition to her AIPAC conferences and speeches, Harris’ national security adviser up until May 2018 was Halie Soifer, a long-time advocate for Israel who was also the Obama campaign’s Jewish outreach liaison in Florida in 2008 and a former advisor to former U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Soifer was also previously a speechwriter for the Israeli ambassador to the United States and was a “Next Generation National Security Fellow” with the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), which is headed by Victoria Nuland, of the neo-conservative “Kagan clan,” and Richard Fontaine, former foreign policy advisor to John McCain.
Soifer is now the executive director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, an Israel lobby organization that “actively promotes foreign and domestic policies consistent with socially progressive, pro-Israel, Jewish community values.”
 Having it both ways
While being a pro-Israel senator is hardly uncommon in American politics, what stands out about Kamala Harris is that she has sought to obfuscate her courting of Israel lobby organizations and Israeli politicians. This shows that Harris is not only seeking to make inroads with the powerful pro-Israel lobby and win its support but is also seeking to construct a public persona that courts progressive voters.
However, if Clinton’s 2016 campaign is any indication, separating one’s “public” and “private” positions in order to win votes, while privately courting special interests, is a recipe for disaster — one that assumes progressive voters are easily duped and can be silenced by identity politics.
As the second part of this series will show, Harris’ Clintonesque construction of both a “private” and “public” platform is hardly a coincidence, since she has surrounded herself for much of her young Senate career with numerous Clinton campaign staffers and Obama administration officials and has been zealously courting Hillary Clinton’s former political patrons.

Why do you hate drake kaitlyn & Victoria? (I'm not judging you💖)
okay so thanks so much for the ask, anon!
I’ve hated them all since the first of each of their respective books
For Kaitlyn it’s that her entire storyline has been about being a shitty friend to mc and then expecting all to be forgiven. Even more annoying, is that mc just allows it. Perhaps I wouldn't actually hate her if she wasn't forced to be our bff. imo that title should’ve gone to Zack, but whatever.
Victoria: from the start, she’’s had such a pissy attitude. Like you dont have to be a pushover or overly nice, but at the very least if somebody’s nice to you what’s the point of being so rude? I could've gotten over that, in fact... I did! Til she attacked mc. A LI who then physically attacks mc? that’s got toxic written all over it. And just bc the writers decided to do a re-write after getting a negative reaction to it doesn't change the fact that it was toxic behavior if you were romancing her. Which I had just started doing. I can absolutely handle an “enemies to lovers” romance, and more importantly I can totally get behind a strong female character... but this isn't it in the slightest.
Drake... is such... a wimp. I’m sorry but I tried to like him at one point but he's such a miserable character. All he does is complain. What has ever been useful about him? The only significant thing he’s ever done was, what? Take a bullet for mc? everything about him has been annoying af and thats why I still haven't finished book 3

Characters who deserved redemption arcs VS. Characters who didn’t deserve redemption arcs
Deserved redemption arcs:
Ivy Fisher - Honestly, I didn’t mind Ivy that much.  All things considered, AME is a game show, and you have to do what you have to do to win.  She really isn’t as bad as a lot of people make her out to be, as she didn’t pull the shit Carson did (stealing the runway outfits in book one, sabotaging the sandcastles, causing Heath/Eden and Kiana to crash and end up in the hospital) and I think she was actually quite pleasant if you befriended her.  Too bad she wasn’t romanceable.
Trent - Honestly, you may not remember him since he was in RoE, but he’s a pretty crappy guy.  He cheated on the MC and defended himself for it.  However, if you choose to reminisce with him about your past relationship with him, he reveals he suffered from a LOT of self-confidence issues and felt inadequate and unworthy of the MC around her friends, family, etc.
Now, obviously, this doesn’t excuse him cheating on her, but I think he got written out of the series entirely too quickly, and a lot more could have been done with his character.  He could have reappeared and offered MC and her new fiancé all his support and best wishes by helping them with the wedding, planning, etc.  He was a totally shitty guy, but yeah, there could've been waaaay more done with his character.  It’s too bad his issues were never deeply touched upon, because as a person who has a ton of self-confidence issues, I could find at least a little bit of sympathy for him.
Xanthe - Okay, Xanthe REALLY deserved a redemption arc.  Not only would it have given her character a real purpose other than being a petty rival to the MC, it could have given her justice or at the very least, peace.  Xanthe claims to have been trained in beauty, grace, and poetry since she was a small child.  This means she was probably sold into slavery at a young age, likely by her father, which left her scarred and distrustful of others.  Her only purpose was seemingly to become the greatest courtesan, which led her to hate MC because her success upstaged her own.  A redemption arc could have given Xanthe the happy ending and better life she deserved.
Didn’t deserve redemption arcs:
Aleister Rourke - Aleister was a pretty polarizing character, but I think the vast majority of the fandom hated his guts.  That being said, he never truly impacted the story in a positive way except for when he redeemed himself.  I actually think he would’ve been a much more compelling character if he had been swayed over to his father’s side, as he really was never a pleasant guy to begin with.  Next.
Victoria Fontaine - I know I’ll piss off a lot of Victoria stans, but hot damn, Victoria was toxic as hell.  To quote the personality section of her wikia page, “Despite her fame, she is shown to be hostile, aggressive, and petty although she has since changed her attitude. Being snarky and mean is her default attitude, as she puts it. She finds being nice or attempting to be nice pretty exhausting. She is willing to be the mean, cynical vulture to your infuriating songbird any day of the week.”
She was still somewhat aggressive and petty in RCD book 2, so I wouldn’t say she’s changed her ways completely.  Not only this, but some of you may remember that in book one, she physically assaults your character on set and doesn’t face any kind of consequences or punishment.  Pixelberry deleted this and changed it so she DOESN’T assault you anymore, but what’s done is done.  I’d even go so far as to say she’s about as toxic as Kaitlyn Liao.
Claire Pierce - Honestly, I don’t even remember her redemption arc.  Pixelberry literally just made her offer some cheap apology to the MC in The Senior and called it redemption.  Claire Pierce is the very definition of spoiled, entitled, rude, narcissistic, and overall, a gigantic asshat.  I know Beau Han and the Alphas were awful people, but I CHEERED when she had to cut her hair short after the glue incident.
She treated Jess like absolute garbage in RoE by throwing cake at her, belittling her to all her friends, spiking her drink to get her fired, harassing Carter at every event he worked on the ship (he mentions at one point that he left work covered in glitter and gasoline after one of her parties), and she continued to be a spoiled little shit when she attended the housewarming party in Newlyweds and in pretty much every appearance after that.  Claire Pierce did not deserve any form of redemption.  She is a god awful person and treats everyone around her like shit because she thinks they’re beneath her, and I hope I never have to see her ever again in any of the other books.
