Remember that one scene where Arthur is training with Merlin and Merlin is fighting for his life while Arthur repeatedly knocks him on his arse? I can’t remember what episode but it was early in season 1.
I like to imagine Merlin starts being sarcastic with every hit in hopes it’ll piss Arthur off enough to storm off and leave him alone. It backfires when Arthur starts replying and it turns into a venting session.
Like, Uther said some dumb shit about Arthur? Merlin starts a fight about it.
The knights can’t follow orders? Merlin is disobedient enough that Arthur starts yelling about how dangerous it is when his men don’t follow orders.
Arthur’s feeling bad about someone he couldn’t save? Merlin makes him see why he’s doing enough by arguing with him about it and reminding him that he’s only human.
And Arthur knows what he’s doing, he catches on eventually and will occasionally walk up to Merlin, push his shoulder only enough to be annoying until Merlin stops whatever he’s doing, then Arthur will just say “Fight me.” and Merlin will either say something he knows will get Arthur angry or he’ll throw a punch he knows Arthur will block and they’ll start sparring. (Merlin learns to fight eventually, neither of them realise it’s happening until he sucker punches a bandit and he’s out cold)
Anyway, it becomes something they do to help Arthur vent his frustrations.
The best part? It works.
So Arthur sees Merlin upset. It goes on for about a week when Arthur realises what’s going on. He sits down next to Merlin on the floor one night, nudges his shoulder like he would if he wanted to fight, and says, “why are you upset? It’s not like you’ve got anything to worry about.” In a purposefully taunting way.
Merlin scowls and keeps working, and Arthur tries again, “Really. All you do is follow orders. It’s not hard.”
And so Merlin looks up, clearly angry until he sees what Arthur is trying to do, so he puts down what he’s doing and starts fighting back, “no, just exhausting when those orders are given by a prat.” Or “Maybe if I had a day off once in a while.” I don’t know, I suck at dialogue.
It goes on for a while, until they get too close to the issue, Merlin snaps, tells Arthur he’s a dick and sobs, yelling about magic, and the great dragon being manipulative, loosing his father, loosing Freya, Gaius lying to him about his father and thinking Uther is a good king and a good man, and literally everything else that’s gone wrong.
Arthur pulls him in and hugs him, then tells Merlin they’re fighting together from here on out. It takes a while, but they work it out.
There’s plenty of “fights” about Arthur feeling betrayed by Merlin keeping secrets and Merlin being mad at his situation in Camelot and then being frustrated that he can’t get himself to feel angry at Arthur (I’ve got a half baked character analysis for Merlin and Arthur’s codependency somewhere in my drafts. I’ll come back to it eventually.) but they’re okay and they figure it out and end up stronger for it.
I’m holding back on sharing the major character death/dark!Arthur angsty alternate ending for this, but let me know if you want to see it :)
Edit: Part 2 - (the angsty alternate ending)

On Greta Danesti...
I'm just taking this time to correct a certain anti-Black, (and anti-Romani) sadly typical fandom troll's misogynoir fuckery in the tag and establishing who Greta Danesti is in canon Castlevania animation lore.
This is Greta Danesti's official character sheet:
She's the village headwoman of Danesti a few miles away from Alucard's castle.
This is what her voice actress, Marsha Thompson looks like:
It's pretty obvious her character design took cues from the actress, who is Afro-British.
In show canon, however, her family escaped from the Roman city of Carthage, which today, is located in the African country Tunisia.
Alucard correctly speculated where her people are from while conversing with her, here (s4 e5):
Greta then confirms that her people did escape the Romans, but she now fully embraces her "family" in her village who are "from all over" and the responsibility of taking care of them.
This same troll used the g-slur to insist that she is Romani.
She is not.
This troll used an early character design here, to make her case.:
And though it does have similarities to Romani clothing... It also looks like it takes cues from Tunisian clothing and likely local and non-local European clothing of the era with "fantasy" elements sprinkled in, as well, which would match the fact of her village's people coming from all over:
There definitely should be more Romani rep in media as it is so often whitewashed, but Greta is not Romani.
FYI, these women actors actually *are* of Romani descent:
Fairuza Balk of The Craft, Oona Chaplin who played Robb Stark's wife in GOT (she's also Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter[!]), and Noomi Rapace from the Swedish movie, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo says her father may have been of Romani descent, as well.
And because I can predict it, as people like to find ways of discounting blackness in every way...
Yes, there are plenty of non-Black indigenous POC in North Africa, including within Tunisia.
Another fun fact... Africa has more indigenous human genetic variation among its peoples than every other people on the planet has with everyone else on the planet[!].
All this to say non-white POC AND Black people are indigenous to Tunisia.
I feel I have to say that because there is a lot of anti-Black anthropological fetishization of North Africa. Egypt is a major example of that (see: Rami Malek, an indigenous Coptic Egyptian who self-identifies as African man of color and has likely had to clarify that *often* because people keep wanting to mislabel him as an Arab, but I digress...)
And sadly, there is a decidedly anti-black movement to totally disconnect certain North African countries' identities from a continental African one, and to largely see it as mainly a part of the MENA world (it is both kiddies, BOTH).
Here is an informative article (linked in the image) about that struggle:
So, this got heavy...but between the post insisting that Greta is NOT Black and the one saying she's not bisexual because that same troll is purposefully and maliciously being obtuse about how words go together...
I figured clearing some things up and educating folks might be helpful.
BTW, the fact of those issues in the article makes her blackness all the more resonant as rep in pop culture.
And hey, poly folks have disagreements, just like the het folks do...
-Still bi.
I'm gonna end here with two images from the linked article of anti-racist Tunisian protesters (MENA and Black):
P.S. I also side-eye those keen to make her muscular... I mean yeah she wields a big-ass hammer and shortsword/dagger, but the tendency to masculinize black woman characters deserves a hardy eye-squint.
Especially, given that the show has *no problem* making muscular women look like that and they DIDN'T for Miss Greta.
See: Zamfir and the Berserk-style sword-carrying Vampire warrior, Striga. Both of whom had that flex going on.

Everything you need to know about the Mega Update Dream & Kirameki Festival and the "Let's Start New Party!" event before the update!:
Basic info about the event:
This is a Challenge Live event
All the current vocalists in the game before the Mega Update will be featured in the event (so no mygo, obviously).
This event is Powerful Type, so use any powerful type vocalists you have for the maximum boost!
The event songs will be the following:
Tokimeki Experience! (it will get a SPECIAL chart WITHOUT the special-exclusive notes (side flick, curved notes)) SP: 26
FIRE BIRD (will also get a SPECIAL chart without special notes) SP: 29
RiNG A BELL (a newly written song for Poppin'Party, and the main title screen theme for the update!) EASY: 7; NORMAL: 14; HARD: 20; EXPERT: 25
Card Showcase:
5 Stars for the event! (Top-Bottom: Kasumi, Aya, Kokoro, Mashiro)
Dream Festival 5 Stars (Top-Bottom, Lisa (Cool Type), Moca (Pure type), CHU2 (Happy Type))
Gacha 4 Star (Ran) + Event 3 stars! (Yukina (Happy Type), LAYER (Pure type))
Important things to note about the cards before pulling/playing:
Unlike all other "Anniversary" Gachas, the event cards/5 stars are PERMANENT and NOT limited at all (the Dream Festival cards are still limited to Dream Festivals but you can get them during EVERY dream festival)
likewise, there are NO new 2 stars in the gacha or event, despite everyone getting new visuals
Despite this being a Kirameki Festival Gacha, no new Kirameki Festival cards will appear. Also an important note (if you don't mind spoilers) that the very next event is ALSO a kirameki fes (as long as en doesn't mess with the gacha times again) and THAT gacha WILL contain new Kiramekifes cards, these cards will be explained at a later date (near the end of this event most likely))
Event cards (and ALL event cards after this point) no longer contain stories, meaning that only cards appearing in the gacha will have card stories from this point forward (likely something soft-implied due to events only having 3 cards in total for a good amount of the 6th year of the game, this includes event 4 stars which there will be four of btw!)
Future use in events (4 star+5 star specifically):
Kasumi's card is useful in the event "Poppin' Western Journey", an event that started in September 2023 in JP. since she is NOT featured in the gacha, you are free to use Kasumi's card while tiering!
Kokoro's card is useful in the event "Hello, Charlotte!", an event that started around June 2023 in JP, Kokoro is featured in this event's gacha but only as a 4 star, but please note that this is the FINAL event on JP to not have a boost for cards featured in the event's gacha, said update could POSSIBLY make it so Kokoro's 4 star in said event is more useful than her 5 star in terms of tiering (however unlikely, but en does fuck up the update schedule a lot, and considering this may be mandatory (for future events), it may also mean they add event boosts earlier to save update time, so i may be weary if you are planning to get Kokoro to tier this event).
Mashiro's card is useful in the event "Gleaming Aria on This Holy Night", an event that released this month (December 2023) on JP, however, Mashiro is featured as the event's 5 star, and since this is both an event after the update that boosts an event's gacha cards, AND is a limited card, planning to tier the event by pulling this Mashiro card instead of pulling for the event in general may not be a good idea.
Lisa's card is useful in the "The Colour of a Never-Wilting Rose" event, an event that started around May 2023 on JP. since she is not in the gacha, she is also useful for tiering the event, and has the best skill for the event considering she is apart of the Dream Festival.
Moca's card is useful in the "Our Afterglow, Despite Even the Darkest Shadows" event, an event that started around July 2023 on JP, the situation with Moca is the exact same as Lisa as she is not featured in the event's gacha as a card.
CHU2, Aya, and Ran's cards have not seen use yet on JP.
Should you pull, or should you save?
Obviously, you should pull if you want to have the cards always, and my, or anyone's opinion does not mean that you pulling for any gacha is a good or bad thing, there is not an objective answer to the question of if you should pull or not for the majority of gachas
My opinion: I would hold off on pulling excessively unless you specifically want the Dream Festival cards. While all the cards are extremely high quality, i must stress that all the event cards in the gacha are permanent, meaning that there are many opportunities to get the cards, including in free pulls, which will very likely happen in celebration of the Mega Update considering 6th anniv on JP had 200 in total, ALONG with an obtainable 5 star gacha ticket (which since the campaign hasnt been announced or implemented in EN, may/may not happen), and currently the perms are the only 4 5 stars you can get in said free pulls (and ticket pulls) since all the other cards are fes-exclusive. However, considering the quality of these cards, and the fact that this is the first gacha where 4 and 5 stars have a combined rate of 10%, as both are doubled, AND this being the ONLY gacha where you can get BOTH dream and kirameki festival cards at the same time, it does NOT hurt to spend a 10 pull or two and i understand somebody pulling for those reasons.
Overall: Like I have said, all the cards in the gacha are VERY high-quality, and are honestly still among the best each character featured has to offer in terms of card quality. 6th anniversary for garupa kicked off with an AMAZING start, imo.
HUGE thanks for reading if you made it this far! i plan on trying to do this more if people like it!
