Gathering with Young Leaders
1,000 Young Leaders hosted the 4th Annual Gathering in Nashville this summer. Some fun facts:
35 participants, alumni and coaches attended.
Someone from each of the 6 cohorts attended.
Two people attended who aren’t in a cohort. They came with someone in the Fall 2021 cohort and are considering joining the upcoming Fall 2022 cohort!
People came from 12 states including California, Texas, Nebraska, Florida, and quite a few from Wisconsin.
Our leadership journey integrates into our young leaders’ daily lives, but the Annual Gathering in Nashville doesn’t. They took time off from their work, family and plans to be here! They took planes, buses and cars to be here. They had grandparents watch their children so they could be here. They paid for hotel rooms so they could be here. They prayed boldly and trusted God would show up in big ways when they came here.
“The Gathering is a place with high celebration, deeper community, incredible worship, and it provides the necessary fuel for participants to reimagine how they can lead community. For me and Kyrie, it’s our favorite time of the year!”
“We’re taking away knowing that failure does not define you and that you can have the courage to move forward even though you failed.”
The theme for the weekend was “Reimagine.” We heard from several folks in the PLI family and Nashville area who are living missionally and reimagining what community looks like in their context. Leaders were also encouraged to reimagine failure — that it’s not fatal, but for teaching.
“It means a lot to meet people who are in different parts of this journey. Some are beyond where we are and some are before us — and it’s kind of magical to share stories.”
The immediate bond between our young leaders is unmatched! 35 people from the past 4 years of our journey got the chance to meet in real life. Some have only seen each other in Zoom boxes and some had yet to cross paths, but they so easily connected, slipped into conversations, opened up, were vulnerable, encouraged and celebrated with each other.
“It’s fun coming back to see everyone we know. It was a big priority to keep our connection with everyone and to also meet everyone else who’s been involved with it and experience the bigger community within 1,000 Young Leaders.”

#I WAS THERE FIRST#cCLEARLY GATHERING INGREDIENTS#but no IM the one getting in HER way#for fucks sake its my birthday tomorrow she abandoned me during an asthma attack i had to get her to call me a fucking ambulance for#and today shes fucking aggro bc i was IN *HER* WAY????#and after i fixed her fucking tv EVEN AFTER SHE WOKE ME UP o fixed her fucking app she was having issues with she RUINED the chicken stock#i was trying to fucking make last week AND SHE INVADED THE FUCKING KITCHEN WHILE I WAS TRYING TO MAKE FOOD#but no obviously im the fucking problem#also bought her a fucking mini waggle maker bc she cant eat the big ones i found 4 more kdramas for her to watch AND shes put zero effort il#into my birthday#like i spend the entire year picking presents for her and my dad and my sister and ALL THREE OF THEM COME TO ME FOR THEIR PRESENTS TO EACH#OTHER and she fucking refuses to put any effort into gifts for me#just hands me cash#“its too hard i dont know what you like” even when i fucking made a list of gift cards she could get AT THE FUCKING GROCERY STORE#and we always fucking eat where anybody fucking else in the family wants to eat#nevermind its supposed to be my fucking birthday#anyway turns out im still bitter and angry that my birthday has never been about me#time for my annual Birthday Self Pity to start#at least i organised my own birthday cake this year#so im actually getting what i want#since last year the dessert she made i cant fucking eat#bc im fucking allergic to eggs#and the year before that she wasnt speaking to me so i bought my own present#jokes on her that was my best birthday in decades#bc i actually got to do what i wanted which was fucking nothing#she didnt force us to go out for lunch AND THOUGHT SHE WAS PUNISHING ME#and the year before that i put my fucking foot down and said i wanted fish and chips at home#but she had to choose the fucking fish and chip place and she chose the fucking chinese restaurant so it was shit#i have forced myself to stop caring about my birthday bc it's just retraumatising myself every time i care

September 2023
#1. started at refugee camp nr 7 (I think). was asked to do a hearing test first for one of the guys and I thought he was Arab bc one of the#supervisors spoke Arabic to him when I saw him but we found he’s actually also Afghan! which was quite funny. not so funny was the fact#that I had taken the machine with me but had left the charger somewhere else so I couldn’t actually do the test. so I had to drive to our#office and go back for the test. when I came back my client had actually prepared these things for me/us 🥺 which is very Afghan and sweet#of him. he said he was just really happy to see someone that’s also Afghan#2. this month I actually was really consistent with my journaling so I’m happy about that#3. we have a cat now and even though I was one of the people that was against it. I would kill for her#4. my parents and I picked fresh walnuts and actually got quite a lot#5 & 6. we have our annual company gathering / party and it was really fun! it was organised well. we had some good food a live band#& a dj (I requested 2 songs and they agreed but didn’t play either one……) and there was also a photo booth which is always a good time.#I def think I’ll also do a photo booth when I have my wedding#7. have started slowly decorating my hobonichi#monthly recap

ugh Passover was the first major Jewish holiday I had the chance to celebrate last year after I decided to pursue conversion and my college’s Jewish student union does a big community seder every year but for a variety of reasons outside of my control I did not find it to be very fulfilling or like… fun so I was pretty bummed and now it’s been over a year and I live in The Jewish city and I have no seder to go so I still don’t have the chance to like, have a typical and fulfilling Passover experience and argh
#it’s like. fine but I’m bummed about it#my extended family is all Jewish but my immediate family isn’t and we never celebrated#so I’ve never had the growing up Jewish experience of Passover Seder being a big fun annual family gathering#and I’m immunocomprised so I can’t just like#find a Seder to go to in NYC (I’m sure there are plenty of people who open theirs to strangers!) bc I cannot risk getting covid lol#I’m just sad :(

#musikhjälpen is an annual radio show where 3 hosts are locked in a 'glass cage' placed in a public square for a week in december#to do marathon broadcast to collect charity donations for some underappreciated global cause. this year's cause is child migrants#there's live music and guests and people gather in the square outside to watch the broadcast. it's really fun!#not schlager nerding

bit of an issue rn where i should apply for a permanent role at work, except the full time hours leave me no time for volunteering with the archivists (which is the reason i took the job in the first place) and the part time hours don't give me enough for me to move out of my parents', which i really want to do this year. Decisions
#ironically moving out would make it possible to volunteer on a day I'm not working but then i technically have 6 days at work a week#and im honestly not sure i can handle that but. it could be a start i guess#i may just do it it'll only be for a year or so maybe and the annual leave is pretty good from what ive gathered#i dont know!!!!
