So I have a theory on webtoon's Nevermore:

And it all pins back to this scene. My theory is that Annabel Lee's plan all along was just to get Lenore that new life

And I think it can all be seen right here, this scene comes right after the big reveal that there is only one new life available for all students. Annabel Lee was the only one not panicking, something that was called out by Lenore herself. Annabel Lee has been shown to be an extraordinaire liar, manipulating almost everyone in her life. She also only has one weakness: Lenore Vandernacht.

Three key scenes that indicate that:

The Physical pain on her face when she knows she has to leave Lenore for good, The Black Ribbons indicating her privately mourning Lenore's "death", and Ada's reveal of Annabel Lee's fear

Annabel Lee had to live a life without Lenore, so she knows how miserable she is whenever Lenore isn't with her. She also knows how much Lenore's mortal life genuinely sucked, compared to hers. Annabel Lee didn't exactly have the best life, however, it definitely was league's better than the hell Lenore's family put her through.

However, Lenore is selfless, so Annabel Lee could never outright just have Lenore move forward and get that new life. So she has to put up a show, create herself a chessboard with pawns and pieces. She positioned herself as the queen, one of the strongest pieces in chess. And we all know Prospero is definitely not the King in Annabel Lee's story.

In Chess, you can sacrifice a queen for a tactical advantage. So we take that into the board, and I bet Annabel Lee is 100% planning on sacrificing herself for her true king, Lenore.

With recent events in the webtoon, it has become such an engaging love story to watch. There are so many trials these two are going through and I just love the writing so much!

I adore this shot.

Annabel and Lenore are the center piece of the board so they're the only ones in colour.

Montressor and Duke have their eyes locked because they absolutely loathe each other.

Interestingly, Prospero has his eyes fixed on Annabel instead of the opposition (Because at this point of the story he doesn't fully trust her).

Ada and Pluto are lukewarm. Ada wants to look down on Lenore, Pluto is side-eyeing Prospero (they've got beef that is still yet to be resolved because Pluto felt abandoned by Prospero when he got switched for Morella).

Morella is in the middle, she wants everyone to be friends and doesn't want to pick sides. Everyone looks so pretty. I love it. ✨

(I also realise that Will was present during this conversation but he's not here. 💀 He's not in this shot. Dang. He's the side character of side characters).

I HAVE A THEORY ON LENORES SPECTRE?!?!?

First of all I just wanna say that I think Lenore and Annabel died together at the same time and so what if I'm saying it's lovers suicide cause that is exactly what I'm saying

I THINK most people know that Annabel died through a bullet in the heart, since it's implied in her design and even in the frame where she got her spectre. Also the fact that it's. Quite litterally stated in one episode

Now lets discard Annabel spectre.

Many people believe that Annabel was manipulated by the deans and that the deans lied about her demise-

But I do believe that Annabel was "murdered" not in the sence that Lenore straight up killed her out of rage or anything like that- this image that pops into Annabel's mind is a lie and was a plot by the Deans to keep Annabel and Lenore sperate

because thats what they were Trying to do they were trying to sperate Annabel and Lenore from the begining

Physically and socially they've been seperating them from the start. Putting them in different seats and chosing Annabel so be the first person to gain their spectre so that Annabel would immediently be "popular" and so that she had a reason to not trust Lenore.

Lets put that aside for now.

For the case of Lenore's demise, I really have no proof other than this singular frame

Surely this cannot be unintentional? Annabel's blood on the floor, the blood in her forehead? The pistol she just Randomly has with NO bullets?

Surely the use of red is intentional??!?!? Which is why I believe Lenore's spectre is also some form of a lady in white.

Even in life they were playing games, perhaps the only way to win was to kill. To kill each other though? That's crazy.

Lets go back to the Deans being dicks, why would they lie about that? What would they have to lose if Lenore and Annabel learn the truth? Similarly, what do they have to lose if Lenore and Annabel plot together? That's the thing- The Deans know something about the Threshold and I think Annabel and Lenore will Do Something about it.

The souls that turn into the creatures that go into the treshold are turned into creatures by The Deans to keep them from knowing the truth. What truth exactly? I have noo fucking clue.

So I was rereading Nevermore and I kept thinking about the difference in character dynamics between Lenore and Annabel Lee in the flashbacks and in Nevermore Academy. I always kinda felt like there was some sort of mirroring going on and I think I am beginning to see a bit of a bigger picture in it.

What interests me the most is that Annabel Lee and Lenore, while staying the same people with the same personalities, have switched rolls completely after they died. I will jabber about this now.

Annabel Lee and Lenore have like I just said kept their personalities. Both pre- and postmortem Annabel Lee are bored by most things, silly and cheeky to the bone (probably to cope with her boredom and anxiety), careful, calculative and a manipulative people pleaser who thinks it's better for herself to mask all the time. She seeks barely anything except for a game, gambit or other thrill that can distract her for a second.

Lenore is both pre- and postmortem a stubborn, headstrong, straight forward and brave woman, who acts mostly out of impulse and really doesn't care to see the greater picture, who keeps letting her pride and temper get the better of her. She hates playing games, jumping around the bush and pretending to be someone she's not (character wise, impersonation is on the table).

Now here it gets more interesting. Like I said, the two of them switched roles entirely.

Lenore was the one who had nothing to lose except for Annabel when they were alive, Annabel has nothing to lose except for Lenore now that they're dead.

It was Lenore who burned down her family estate and did seemingly not care about the staff possibly burning to death. It was Lenore who got desperate and willing to throw everything away when it seemed like Annabel would be lost to her. It was Lenore who decided to be someone else (Leo) so that she and Annabel can get a happy ending. It was Lenore who was a threat to the things that Annabel had to lose and assumed/hoped Annabel would be okay with it. Meanwhile Annabel Lee made it clear to Lenore that she can't misbehave too much, that her disposition and the status of her father are a top priority to her, something Lenore completely ignored by showing up as a man and proposing to Annabel, making a fool out of Annabel and her father if it ever came out.

Annabel is the one with nothing to lose now. She made it clear from the start that she's not here to make friends and will throw each and every person that isn't Lenore under the bus the very moment it is convenient. It is her, who's willing to give her life if Lenore doesn't trust her. It is her freaking out completely when Lenore seems to be lost to her. It is her deciding she will pretend to be someone completely different to get a happy end with Lenore. It is Annabel who is a Danger to the things Lenore has to lose, because she assumes/hopes Lenore has the same dedication to their relationship. Lenore however now has friends that she cares about deeply and has made this clear to Annabel.

I think this is also a big part of why Annabel is so okay with ignoring that Lenore said her friends were important. Because Annabel thinks she perfectly knows Lenore and that Lenore will get over a few casualties and not care that much in the end. She thus far remembers only the Lenore who is willing to go over a few corpses to be with her, she does not remember why Lenore was like that. She may remember that there was noone to care about for Lenore, she does however not remember just how desperate Lenore's situation used to be and that her actions have been made not only out of love but also out of that exact desperation.

I am excited to see if this will continue and how or if they will break out of the very uneven codependency that followed them into death.

OK THEORY TIME

Yeah so i dont believe lenore killed annabel, but i DO believe annabel thinks lenore killed her.

During the flash-back of episode 90(webtoon isnt letting me take screenshots grr), we see lenore angry, with a gun. Annabel thinks lenore is mad at her, but i think lenore was actually trying to warn annabel that someone was behind her and was going to kill her. Lenore used the gun in annabel's direction, but it wasnt the shot that killed annabel. Lenore shot the assaillant either missing or touching the assaillant superficially(or she couldve missed and actually shot annabel by mistake, making annabel's belief of betrayal stronger.) After that, the assaillant shoots lenore in the head and they both die.

Why do i think lenore didnt kill annabel(intentionally)? Because even after divorcing her and discovering she walled up duke, lenore still called for her in the staircase. She still blushed after receiving the pendulum. What could have annabel done that was worse than attempted murder on lenore's Best friend? Sure, the conditions are different but the point still stands.

But if lenore didnt kill annabel, who did? We have two options: a)the deans lied to further annabel's belief of betrayal and the killer doesnt have to be loved by her, making them either her dad or her old fiancé, or b) she was indeed killed by one of the only three person she ever loved(aka people she didnt see as pawns): her parents and lenore. It wasnt lenore, and i think her mom is dead so it must've been her father, ira. I know their relationship was a bit strained and probably rocky, but he was still her father, so even if she hated him, she probably still loved him deep down.

And why did annabel help lenore even after she thought lenore killed her? Because shes a self-destructive down bad lesbian thats why.

So yeah thats my theory

Where have I seen this before…

If I had a nickel for every time I saw a Sapphic couple with Sun/Moon dynamics go through a period of divorce after one of them did terrible things to protect her wife (to the horror of the aforementioned) and then was completely unable to see why her actions were terrible, I'd have two nickels.
