you loved him. of course you loved him. you always, always loved him, no matter what. you loved him when he had only 3 hours of sleep or when he was so caught up in something he was doing. sometimes, he tested you, but you still loved him.

today was one of those days. hongjoong was hyper, almost off the wall and bouncing with excitement and energy you never really expected his small body to have. you knew he had to have had coffee. it was his favorite thing to drink, and it was the only thing that ever made him this crazy. the real question was, how many cups did he have?

“hey joong?” you called out, and hongjoong almost collided into you when he came in front of you. his eyes were wide, and he reached up to cup your cheeks, pulling your face in and planting a kiss on your lips. “joongie, baby, look at me. how many cups of coffee did you have?”

“coffee? i didn’t have any. what makes you think i had any?” he was speaking a hundred miles a minute, and one single look at him caused him to back down a little. murmuring quietly, he dipped his head. “eight.”

your eyes went wide, your mouth dropping open in shock. you were used to him drinking plenty when he needed to do something, but eight cups? “that’s a little overboard, don’t you think?”

he waved his hand dismissively, snickering to himself as he moved away from you, going to the kitchen. you followed after him, rolling your eyes as you watched him pour another cup of coffee. he took a sip from the cup, looking to you with wide eyes. you couldn’t help but look at hongjoong in complete awe. you really couldn’t believe he was doing this.

“you’re gonna die from caffeine overload.” you murmured, and as hongjoong placed his cup back on the counter, you couldn’t help but reach up, fingers poised to flick. when you released your finger, the tip made contact with his forehead, and something within him clicked. he lifted his gaze, a certain fire set within his eyes.

quickly, you turned on your heel before he even had a chance to reach out and grab you. running through the house, hongjoong chased after you, jumping over furniture with his bright laughter ringing out. he called for you, your name leaving his lips amidst his laugh while you avoided his grabbing hands. it wasn’t until he tackled you onto the couch that the game was won, him on top of you.

“i love you.” he murmured quietly, his eyes searching yours before he leaned down to place a gentle kiss on your lips. your heart swelled inside of your chest, the sweetest sound of a soft hum sounding from your throat. when you looked up at him, all you could see was home.

“i love you too.”

you had always been a jumpy person. everyone knew that. people got into habit of warning you when they were coming up behind you, and they got a kick out of scaring you for even the simplest things. hongjoong was always there to beat your cackling friends away with whatever he could find, which just so happened to mostly be a rolled up stack of music sheets. it always made you smile, seeing how protective he was of you.

despite people bothering you all day, you were working on some homework, scribbling down some notes on your paper. you were so focused, that even when you heard the telltale “i’ve got coffee” from hongjoong, you still flinched a little before looking up.

with a smile, hongjoong slid into the seat next to you, setting the cup of coffee in front of your work. the two of you often came to the quiet cafe to work on whatever you needed to, and it became a habit to get coffee and hang out. he brought his laptop to work on song mixing, and you either helped him or brought your own stuff to work on.

“got anything to work on today?” you asked, tipping your chin toward his laptop before taking a sip from your coffee. a soft dusting of pink rose to hongjoong’s cheek as he glanced to the screen, then nodded as he distracted himself with a sip of coffee. “if you need any help, just lemme know.”

with a few playful nudges and wide smiles, the two of you went back to work. you were working hard on your homework, wanting to finish it up as quickly as you could so you could watch hongjoong work on his songs. you always loved watching the process of him work, even if you had no idea what was going on. there was something soothing about watching him work.

you were so caught up in your work, wanting to finish it quickly, that you never noticed hongjoong’s stolen glances over to you. you didn’t notice when he stopped typing, when the click of his mouse slowed until he wasn’t doing it anymore. it was only when you felt his fingers brush over your cheek, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. you flinched, eyes wide as you looked up at him.

“dont be alarmed.” his voice was soft, sweet and gentle, his expression all the more so if possible. your heart was racing in your chest, and you weren’t sure if it was because his face was so close to yours or because he startled you. “i’m going to kiss you.”

his lips met yours in a gentle kiss. and it almost felt like clouds were caressing your lips. your eyes fell shut while you gave into the sensation, letting your pen rest on the table and relaxing into his hold. when he finally pulled away, your lungs ached for air, but you didn’t care. you smiled up at hongjoong, who was still cradling your face in his hands.

“was that okay?” he asked, eyes searching yours as if he’d find any inkling of displeasure in your gaze. when you nodded, he broke into a smile. “can i do it again?”

another nod, and then you two were kissing again. it was the sweetest, the most gentle gesture of love, something that you adored more than anything else. especially with him.
