Hello Freddy and Handeemen Friends Chapter 1
Another big day of filming has officially come to a close for those who worked at the studio where a popular kids show named Mortimer’s Handeemen was filmed. The show had a cast of four puppets teaching kids and engaging them in the segments, it would film episodes over six days a week for about five hours per day with lunch breaks and “staged” rehearsals happening in between.
Mortimer himself was very aware of things going on, he was capable of his own thoughts and expressing his feelings like the other puppets who had evolved from being operated by puppeteer to being fully independent and going about on their own accord, just as long as they listen to their creator Owen Gubberson, which was an agreeable enough condition.
Mortimer in between filming and rehearsals liked reading the paper, that why if he went to the front reception and couldn’t find the paper where it should be on the desk, he would get irritated. Today such hasn't happen so he was happily reading the newspaper while having tea with milk and sugar.
He had come into the annual six month TV reviews in the kids category he saw his own show was now rating second below a show called Freddy Fazbear and Friends. He was annoyed, he had seen the name before, from what he understood and heard, the show was about four friends who were different animal types like a bear, bunny, chicken and fox, they had unique adventures about their world and the human world.
He didn’t quite know how Freddy and Friends had suddenly become so much better than his show, it was educational too but not exactly as entertaining, maybe because they had more merchandise than them, and they had a big friendly bear, that seemed to fascinate kids, despite Mortimer knew bears in reality were actually quite vicious and should never be approached in the wild.
Maybe a word with Owen wasn’t out of order, maybe he could suggest an idea to ensure kids were watching his show and not Freddy and Friends.
Owen was often busy and finding a spare minute to talk to him wasn’t easy, he was almost always writing scripts, ideas and talking to other cast members. Usually he would only have a few minutes in between tasks he was doing to be able to have a short conversation.
“Greeting Owen! Could I have a moment with you to have a word with you alone?” Mortimer asked him.
“Well of course, what is on your mind Mortimer?”
“It’s come to many attention that-”
“Excuse me Mr. Gubberson?” Mortimer saw a female human in the doorway, he knew she worked at the front reception as he would see her every morning at the desk answering the phone when it rang and even handing the paper to Mortimer, “You have a phone call from Henry Emily, said it's about the concept you said, he said he can only speak to you now due to the recording schedule,”
“Oh shoot, sorry Mortimer, this phone call is important, I'll get back to you once I'm off the phone,” Owen spoke.
“It's fine to attend to your business!” Mortimer understood perfectly well why the phone call was important. Any phone call Owen needed to answer was very important due to the schedule. Owen walked away and the woman vanished from the doorway.
So whilst waiting for Owen to conclude his phone call, Mortimer went to see what Riley Ruckus was setting up in the science experiment set.
Owen walked pass all the sets and entered his small office which was situated at the back of the building. The room had blue prints and episode cards all over the walls, and a desk full of post it notes he had written, all ranged from ideas of episodes to things he needed to do like “Talk to Riley about allowing her to walk Roscoe around the studio”. On the desk was a corded telephone, he lifted up the receiver and spoke, “Front Reception please transfer my current call to this one,”
“One moment Mr. Gubberson” The person on the other end replied.
“Hello?”
“Hello Henry” Owen replied
“Owen! I do apologise for not being able to get back to you until now, having twin kids and running my own television show is hectic!” The voice on the other end replied.
“How are your children anyway?” Owen inquired just being generally curious, he had no interest in being a parent himself but he saw what joy it brought to other people.
“Good… I mean I do lose sleep but they're normal kids….. So I thought about our cooperation!” Henry spoke.
Owen was surprised, “You did…..? Forgive me, I thought you forgot….”
“Like I said twin children and a show, I have barely no time on my plate! Anyway, my wife has the in-laws to help her and we can get the crew set up by tomorrow! We're just putting the final touches on the next episode!”
“So…. We can do the friendship day special?” Owen asked.
“Of course! I think the kids will love it! Two different shows coming together and doing all sorts of wonderful friendly activities!” Owen sensed, as he knew Henry quite well, that he was smiling.
“Really? We can do it here?”
“We'll all be there on Saturday! So everyone can get acquainted! I look forward to it Owen!”
“Me too! I'll see you on Saturday!”
“Goodbye!” Henry ended with a cheerful tone that suggested he was indeed beaming from ear to ear. Owen put down the phone, he himself was quite happy, this could bring a lot of attention, but then realised he needed to address the puppets about this. Only him and Henry knew about this idea as far as he knew, maybe Henry already told them what exactly would be happening.
Riley was showing Mortimer how she had invented a cute sock puppet rat that could glow in the dark that would help kids who were afraid of the dark. Riley always came up with such ingenious concepts that amazed Mortimer, and she had such an indescribable passion for it, she'd ramble for hours without taking a single breath if she wanted to. Owen walked into the set where Riley's lab was set up, and saw the design she drew up on chalk board, he took a minute to look at all the writing Riley had placed on the chalk board and nodded.
“Are you interested?” Riley inquired noticing his attention being on the design.
“It’s simple and cute,” Agreeing with what Mortimer was saying about it, “I see the concept you're creating, I need to have a word with you two,” Owen said.
“Should Roscoe stay?” Riley asked gesturing to her large dog, Roscoe was asleep on the ground, curled up near the heater, one of his favourite place to sleep at any given time.
“He can come if he wants,” Owen responded walking out the set, Mortimer and Riley followed.
“Nick Nack! Daisy! Can you come here for a minute?” He yelled in the general direction of their dressing rooms.
Nick had appeared from his room, holding a paint brush, obviously he was in the middle of painting, whereas Daisy just appeared from her room humming a little tune. All stood in front of him, waiting for what he’d say, so Owen finally spoke, “So you know how we always so something special for Friendship day?”
“Of course!” Mortimer's favourite episodes were when they did Friendship day specials, so many interesting storylines and many friendships could be created between the kids in the episodes, better than Christmas. Friendship was important to every child.
“Well I did something really good, have you heard about Freddy and Friends?”
“Yes and I was going to inform you that they're ranking better according to the summary of the last six months,” Mortimer had finally told him what he read.
Owen had ignored his comment it seemed as he continued, “Well you know a guy called Henry Emily? He use to work in the studio as my understudy so he could understand how to create a TV show, he's creator of Freddy and Friends. I just got off the phone with him.”
Where would this lead? Everyone was wondering.
“He’s going to bring Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy down here to the studio! We're going to cooperate and make a crossover Friendship day special that shows unity across different shows! Isn’t it a wonderful idea? It's unique!”
Silences.
“I beg your pardon?” Mortimer asked in a seemingly extremely annoyed way, the tone instantly caused Owen to carefully think his next few responses.
“We do a lot of fun things but they're all kind of the same concept, I consider Henry a great acquaintance. We need to keep kids engaged, I have a rough plan for each segment which will include things like a joint painting between Nick Nack and Bonnie, who is also really artistic. “
“I do apologise, but I refuse to share with a giant rabbit, No, it won’t happen, he is not allowed in my studio,” Nick had snarled at the very idea.
“Bonnie is also a very clean rabbit, he won’t make a mess if that's what you concerned about,” Owen answered, he wanted to make sure he was answering any questions they asked.
“How would you know that?” Mortimer asked in an accusingly tone.
“I sometimes…. Watch it with my nephews, you know… you haven’t actually met them…. Maybe you should meet them, and my sister also… They enjoy the show, they are the biggest fans of Foxy… They also watch this show, but it's mainly because your shows are on different times, this show is on Tuesdays and Fridays at 4:00pm, their show is on Fridays at 6:00pm.”
“I do see that reasoning, how old are your nephews?” Mortimer questioned, this was his first time hearing of these kids who were related to Owen.
“Five and twelve. Would you be okay if I invited them to come into the studio?” Owen did wonder if he could let them come by when they weren’t in school as they appeared intrigued by his show and the characters.
“If they don’t disturb anything, they are welcomed!” Mortimer nodded, always having a unspoken policy of allowing children on set just as long as they behaved, “But back to the problem at hand-”
“Mortimer, I don’t see any problem,” Owen said. He honestly couldn’t see any problems that couldn’t be solved.
“I don’t think we would get along,” Mortimer countered, “We’ve never met and one of them is a bear Owen! Bears in real life are vicious!”
“They might surprise you, even if you might have nothing in common with them, but some friends just don't have anything in common but they still like talking to one other, just… try and see if we can all get along, they'll be here on Saturday after filming, alright?” Owen asked.
They muttered in agreement.
“And if anything is very wrong, we can just shut down the idea,” He suggested, Mortimer nodded at him and both him and Mortimer felt some reassurance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Y/n) knew it.
She knew there had been something wrong with Roger from the moment he had woken up in the morning but he brushed off every comment she made to the point asking him again would gain an angered response.
The way that the drummer kept rubbing at his chest instead of his shoulder showed that something wasn't right with him. He seemed to drift off into a different world more than he stayed in reality today too, asking people to repeat what they had said because he hadn't been listening. Looking like he was drowsy and almost swaying like paper in the breeze from time to time before he recovered and was his normal self again.
But as she sat in front of the controls, looking up through the window where the boys were starting to sing in unison, she saw it. How Roger had to close his eyes when singing a high note for a sustained period of time. How his hand was plastered to his chest almost all the time, specifically on the left-hand side. A ragged breath left (Y/n)'s lips as she suddenly sprung to her feet like she was a puppet coming to life. Her hands planting down on the desk in front of her as the air was stolen from her lungs, her heart suddenly battering against her ribs as if trying to break them.
No one seemed to know what to do.
One moment, Brian, Freddie and Roger were glancing between one another as they stood in front of the mike. Both Brian and Freddie rather amazed at the note Roger managed to reach, knowing they should be used to this by now. Then the next moment, Brian was flinging his arms out to catch the drummer when his eyes rolled to the back of his head and his knees caved in beneath him. Roger looked like a rag doll that had been discarded and allowed to flop down to the floor. His body folding like a thin material in the breeze, his head snapping back as Brian held him around his chest under his arms to stop him from hurting himself with a crash landing to the ground.
Both (Y/n) and John ran into the recording room, scuttling over to the three boys inside as Brian set Roger down on the floor, unable to hold him up any longer than that.
Moving him around, Brian laid his friend on his right side, stretching Roger's left arm out in front of him and moving his legs so he was laid in the recovery position since he seemed spark out. Watching as (Y/n) knelt down in front of him, one hand pressing to his pulse point as the other carded through his hair, trying to bring him back around. Her eyes glued to the drummer's chest, seeing that when he fell, the hand that had been rubbing at his chest had dragged down his shirt. Popping open the buttons along the way, allowing (Y/n) to look at his chest to see if he was breathing too quick or too slow. Her mind made up that he was breathing far too quick to be normal.
"Call an ambulance, just to be on the safe side." John commented when Miami stood in the doorway, wondering if Roger was going to come around and say he was fine or that he needed help. They all silently knew that taking him to the hospital would be the best thing just to make sure that there was nothing actually wrong that he didn't know about. They'd all rather be safe than sorry when it came to their close friend.
(Y/n) quickly shuffled back, leaning on her left side to be out of the way when Roger's stomach sucked inwards at an alarming rate before he suddenly threw up. That being the only movement he made before he went back to laying motionless on the carpeted floor, the rise and fall of his chest being the only indication that he was actually alive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With shaking hands, Roger began to do up the buttons on his shirt that was a mix between a dark cream and a light grey shade. His head dipping forward, feeling too heavy for him to even attempt to hold up for much longer. His chest rose and fell at a normal pace once again as he felt oddly calm considering his sudden collapse at the studio and the rather immediate MRI his doctor had rushed him off to.
Roger had barely been awake more than five minutes before the familiar face of Doctor Freeman was peering over at him, his kind features expressing a clear worry. His lips moving too fast for Roger to comprehend, his ears only just making out that he was scheduled for an emergency MRI right that minute. Leaving the drummer to quickly change into the gown they provided before he was taken to lie in the familiar machine he had been in before for roughly an hour. They didn't seem to mind that he kept nodding off every so often, unable to keep his eyes open since it worsened the headache he had and raised the risk of him throwing up which they didn't want.
He dared not think what he was going to have to tell the band and (Y/n) who were all sat in the waiting room. Having speeded down along with the ambulance to see if Roger was alright. None of them would have been sure why he was having an MRI and the doctor had promised the drummer that it as confidential and he hadn't told them why. Simply saying it was a procedure to rule a few things out. So now Roger was left to come up with yet another lie to feed them all.
Leaving the top two buttons of his shirt undone, Roger ran a hand through his rather damp and knotted hair as he let a sigh tumble from his lips. He just needed to go home and be with his family now and to go to bed. He needed to go to bed.
"How are you feeling, Mr Taylor?"
Turning his head to the door, Roger managed a rather weak smile as the older man walked into the room. Pulling up the chair so he could sit down opposite Roger who was sitting on the edge of the bed, wishing he was in his own.
"Rough. What's the verdict?" Roger didn't want to beat about the bush here, he wanted to know if his suspicions were right and if they were, what the next course of action would be. He wasn't stupid, he had taken biology as his degree in university so he knew these little telltale signs of something being wrong with his previous history Roger knew what it would be. Yet he still found himself asking for confirmation, just in case this was just some fluke. In case this was some chest infection getting the better of him and he could just go home with antibiotics.
Dr Freeman wore that same smile Roger had seen the first time he had sat in this man's office. It was a look that told Roger the doctor was fond of him, fond of the way that the drummer didn't deny anything he was told because he didn't want to believe it. Fond of the way that Roger agreed with anything without fuss or question. Roger just seemed to take everything in without dwelling on it, he was easy going and he understood. There weren't many patients out there like him.
"There's another mass in your left lung." The doctor's lips pressed into a straight line as Roger could see he was biting down on his inner lower lip. His eyes crinkling at the sides in a sorrowful look at having to deliver the bad news to the drummer who already had an inkling that this would be the case.
Roger had been given the news of cancer a few months back, having a small operation to take out the mass in his lung since it wasn't big and they wanted to stop it from spreading. A week before he decided to ask (Y/n) to marry him he had a routine scan to find that there were more cancerous cells back and he would need further tests to confirm. Roger had already known from the growing chest pains, the sickness and breathlessness and then the coughing that his fight was far from over. Hearing it just set things in stone.
Roger didn't want to take the risk of thinking that he would be fine if indeed his cancer spread too far for anything to be done for him. Asking (Y/n) to marry him was his way of setting that insurance up that if he were to get terminally ill, someone would be there for his daughters. They wouldn't be left alone because (Y/n) had said she would help him look after them and Roger knew that meant if something happened to him she wouldn't just abandon them. He didn't mean to lead (Y/n) on because she was his closest friend other than the boys, he really was beginning to feel for her more than a friend. Roger just needed to take those precautions and set things in place so his and his girl's futures were not going to be hectic or jeopardised.
"Left lung... not spread to the other then yet." That was something good in the very least. The cancer being in both lungs would really knock down Roger's chances here and he didn't want that. He neede every chance he could scrape at the moment.
"Thankfully not, no. We can't do another operation because there are more cells spread about rather than a simple mass like last time. I think radiotherapy is our best bet but it needs to start soon." Roger nodded, although his mind was in a different place. That meant coming down to the hospital every week or even twice or three times a week to get treatment. Roger would have to sneak off from the studio and make his excuses to everyone.
Last time it had been different.
It was little over a week confined to the hospital, he was easily able to sidestep that with everyone. He took the girls to his parents in Cornwall, told the band and (Y/n) and a few other close friends he was staying with his parents for the week with the girls. Before secretly admitting himself into the hospital to have his operation and then recover from it. No one had been any the wiser and that was how he liked it.
Dr Freeman had advised Roger to tell someone, either a friend or family member so he could talk about it, to make it more bearable and easier but Roger declined. He didn't want to tell anyone, he didn't want their pitying looks or them acting like they needed to wrap him up in cotton wool. This was his health that was worsening, not theirs. He didn't feel the need to burden them with this when he was coping on his own. Roger felt no need to go to a counsellor either when he was advised to do so, he was fine carrying on as if he wasn't ill because at the end of the day it was so much easier to live a lie. To think and imagine that he was fine when he wasn't. It gave him an escape and that was what he needed.
Now things were going to get complicated and more lies were going to be needed.
"How soon?" Roger questioned, his hand moving and tangling in his hair as he brushed it from his eyes. At least the band weren't going on tour anytime soon giving him the time to get treatment rather than having to cancel.
"Next week. The usual schedule would be once a day Monday to Friday, lasting no longer than half an hour. We'll book you for a CT scan next Monday hopefully, work out where and how much radiation to give you and you can have your first dose there and then if that's alright with you." So Roger was going to need an hour or more lunch break every weekday to get down here, get treatment and then head back. Maybe even head home if the side effects got to him. Great. And he was going to have to take Monday off work for the scan which he knew would take a while, to then go straight for the first dose of treatment.
But what else could he do?
Roger couldn't say no and postpone for a few weeks if the doctor was saying it needed to start now. That meant it was urgent and Roger wasn't endangering his health for anything, he would start treatment next week and bear with whatever side effects it gave him as long as it could take away his problem and keep his life going for him.
"Sure, we start on Monday." Roger confirmed with a nod of his head, a very small, tired smile tugging at his lips to which the doctor returned.
"The receptionist will book the time for you and schedule your treatment plan for you, then you're good to go." Pushing himself to his feet, he thought for a moment before leaning over and patting Roger's shoulder. It was never easy to be told that cancer had come back, it was even harder to have to be the one to find out and deliver the news. But seeing Roger so oddly calm and collected was a little unnerving when most other patients broke down or simply denied their diagnosis. "Oh, and congratulations. Would you like me to send the lovely lady in?" He commented, his eyes glancing down to the silver band wrapped around Roger's wedding finger causing the blond to smile. His index finger gently swirling the shiny band around for a moment as he nodded.
"Um... you, you won't tell her, right?" Lifting his head Roger bit his lip at the slightly disappointed look on Dr Freeman's face at seeing Roger still hadn't confided in anyone about this. Not even his wife.
"Patient confidentiality, Mr Taylor. But I do advise you to." With a last look, he turned on his heels and headed out of the room to go and call (Y/n) in from the waiting room. Knowing that Roger was making a mistake by bottling this up and simply thinking he could do this on his own. Having someone there during treatment was often helpful to other patients, especially if he got rather bad side effects. It also meant he was going to put a strain on himself if things got tough and when he had to lie. If (Y/n) found out Roger had been lying all this time they both knew she wouldn't take it well at all.
"Rog?" A small smile pulled at his lips despite the news he had just been given when he saw (Y/n) hurrying into the room.
Reaching out Roger wrapped his arms around her waist, gently pulling her so she stood between his legs. His head resting against her lower chest as he sighed, a welcomed feeling of content washing throughout his body. Taking away the thumping headache beginning to pulse behind his eyes and the fatigue running throughout every muscle he held within his body.
"What's happened? They took you for an MRI as soon as we brought you in... i-it's nothing bad, right?" Looking down to the drummer, (Y/n) gently cupped his face in her hands when he pulled back enough to be able to look up at her. His heart shattering at the fear swelling in her pupils as she begged for him not to give her bad news. There was a very small part of him telling himself that he should come clean now save having to come clean eventually if things went south. But the look on her features made him quickly change his mind. How could he even think of telling her and shattering her world like that?
Standing to shaking legs, he held onto her waist for support to make sure his knees didn't give out on him again. A small smile pulling at his pale lips as he leaned his forehead against her own.
"No, nothin' bad sweetheart. They thought there may have been some fluid or a blood clot. I've got mild pneumonia, that's all. Need antibiotics and bed." Roger felt bad for lying but at the end of the day, he couldn't say the MRI was for nothing because it had been clear from the suddenness of the scan that something was thought to be wrong. Pneumonia was a good cover up because it had some of the same symptoms as Roger was suffering. Breathlessness, coughing, feeling generally unwell. He could use that as a ploy to stop the questions from everyone and make everything seem okay.
He had to lie.

He followed me home, chap. 4
Tumblr media
Title: Hew followed me home,,
Rating:   T
Summary :  The whole world gets involved when you and your new boyfriend, Chris Evans, adopt a friend for Dodger but then can’t settle on a name.   .
This chapter:  Chris and reader navigate some unexpected twists.  Fluff and some angst, a teensy bit of social anxiety and a little making out.
Happy Birthday @theycallmebecca!!    We’re finally at the end!    Thanks so much to @arizonapoppy for her awesome and timely help.   Oenethera5 is the one who came up with the winning name.  Hope you all like it.   Because I rushed to get this up for Becca’s big day it is not beta’d.  If y’all spot anything too heinous let me know :)
You can find Chapter 1  etc. here:    He Followed Me Home,   .tags for folks below the cut
-----------------------------------------------  .
Two weeks after puppy comes home Chris goes back to work.
 There’s a whirlwind of press to do for Red Sea Diving and Avengers 3, and with the rave reviews for both (and his Broadway debut) your giant, bouncing labrador of a boyfriend is on a high.
 This night his assignment is Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The Town car pulls up in front of the old masonic lodge that hosts Kimmel’s studio and  you’re thinking ‘Wow”.   Already the crush of tourists and fans outside the doors snakes past El Capitan’s classic art deco theatre to Ghirardelli’s chocolate shop, held back by a line of security and police.  The walk of fame with its stars outfront has a red carpet laid on top.  The facade looks elegant; all stone columns and ionic capitals, banners and bright lights.
 Flashbulbs are already popping before Chris finishes his call with Susan, his long time publicist.
 “Fine. Yeah.  I know. I know. I’m good. Breathe. Yup, I’m breathing.  See you at 10 for dinner.”  He swipes his phone shut and smiles weakly across at you, leg going a million miles an hour.  The nerves never get any easier. They do this before almost every show—Susan, the pro, talking  him down, getting the noisy brain in gear, but this time with the Avengers hype off the dial, they decide it might help if you came along.
 (Officially you are representing Getaway and reporting back on audience response. Unofficially you are there to stand in the wings and wish calming vibes his way.)
 The evening mercifully starts out light and easy.
 Jimmy loves Chris as an interview: they always have fun and joke around, but he knows his subject well enough to go a little slow while his guest gets in the groove.
“What is new with you?” he asks, smiling broadly, clapping Chris on the shoulder as he sits on the soft grey wool of the couch,  bobbing his head at the wild applause and nervously smoothing his tie in place.
“Not much.  Filming. Hanging out.” Chris huffs a breath and smiles, trying to act nonchalant, adjusting his cuffs and surreptitiously wiping his sweaty palms on his dark suit pants.   “A ten city press tour.”
Jimmy’s eyebrows head for the ceiling.  “Not much?  Other than being everywhere on screen and nearly breaking the internet tweeting about your dog?”
Chris laughs and Jimmy explains whole missing Dodger thing to the audience.   “For the few folks who spent this year underneath a rock—this is Dodger.  And this is where we all thought he died!”
Pictures of Dodger show up on the big screen backdrop; the pining tweets that were misinterpreted; the amazing video shot by Carly of their reunion.  The audience is oohing and awwing and clapping loudly.
“I know, I know. What can I say?” Chris shrugs.  “Dodger’s a pure soul. It was hard.  It was hard.  I was in South Africa and I missed him.  For months. He took it hard but I wasn’t gonna put him in quarantine.”
Jimmy smiles.  “Nah. I get it.  It’s rough. But next just time warn us ok?”  He turns to the camera, all mock serious.   “And Twitter? Jack you listening?  Give this guy 280 characters right now—cuz jeez I don’t think our hearts can handle too short Evans tweets.”
Chris throws back his head and laughs, grabs his pec for a sec, shaking his head, full on going for it as the whole studio cracks up.  “Suuure that’ll work.  I get to word vomit more.”  He mimes grabbing for a barf bag and waves the idea away.  You’re smiling, watching him relax.  Thank heaven.  So far it’s going great.  “No Twitter.. please.  Do not.” He shakes his head and settles back into his seat, beaming a sunshine smile.  “But seriously—it’s all good. When I have to be away, we’ve got a solution for it now.”
Kimmel raises an eyebrow.  “Oh yeah?”
“We adopted a puppy.”
The whole audience in unison goes ‘Awww”  and suddenly Chris is pulling out his phone, flipping through his pictures to show Jimmy one of the two amigos on the lawn,   Dodger sitting tall and puppy flopped at his feet.
He holds the screen facing out toward the seats.  The camera zooms in and out, trying to focus and Jimmy turns to ask the stage manager:  “Can we get that up?  The little fluffball is pretty cute.”
Magically, the picture is caught and appears on the backdrop:  puppy and Dodger beyond life size and so adorable the audience is cooing.  Jimmy nods at the screen.  Chris nods, smiling like the proudest papa at the two of them but then suddenly,  laser like, Jimmy turns back to Chris and picks up on what was said.
“We?”
Chris blushes bright red as a tomato then pales to an unhealthy shade of white.
Standing in the wings, you think “oh shit.”  He’s probably in panic mode; brain berating him for slipping up, worrying all at once what Susan’ll say, and how to talk his way out, and if he’ll fuck up more.
You heart goes out to him.  This is exactly the type of nightmare scenario guaranteed to bring out his anxiety.  You watch him awkwardly cross and recross his legs, stroking his tie down again and stalling for more time.
“A friend”  That’s all he has to say, he doesn’t need to give any more but for some reason he’s biting his lip, fingers tapping on his slacks, agonizing.   This is his least favourite part of the biz but surely Jimmy won’t give him too hard a time?
The silence is getting a little long.  Come on Chris.  You’re an actor.   Just fudge an answer.  You’re pleading in your head and then it comes.
And you almost drop your notes in shock.
“My girlfriend and I.”
An instant giant collective groan emanates from the audience.  Cieto, Jimmy’s band leader, right on cue leads the house band in a mournful dirge. You’re frozen, thinking that at least no one there knows it’s you, as your phone buzzes in your hand.
It’s Susan.  Of course it is.  She watches all his events and you just know she’s madly texting “wtf???”
Jimmy can barely speak for chuckling.
“Folks.  Folks,” he pleads, palms up, getting the hooting of the audience to calm down.  “Oh my god, you heard it here first.  The scoop of the year. Chris Evans is no longer single and the internet is about to break again.”
You’re dying.  Just dying, trying to keep your face straight, head whirling at the implications.  What??!!  Fuck, Chris.   How long before someone finds out it’s you?  Days if you’re lucky and that thought makes your stomach knot.  What will Anthony and Joe say?  How will you handle all the crazies? You’re picturing shit-tons of hate mail, a posse of paparazzi at the gate when you get home and wonder if you can scale the cliff at the bottom of the lawn to drop into Christina Applegate’s backyard next time you have to leave.
Maybe you should leave right now?  Maybe you should get a taxi to your apartment?   Not be seen going back to Laurel Canyon but then what would puppy and Dodger do?
You’re just picturing never dining out again, never jogging on Mulholland, when you notice that Chris, the shit, is grinning like a loon.
What?!
The noise finally subsides.  Jimmy leans over and asks: “How long has it been?”
Chris takes a breath, licks his lips, slouches a little lower and weirdly almost looks relaxed.   Some colour has come back into his cheeks.   “Four months.”
“Four months?  So new!”
“Yeah.  Yeah.  New but feels so right.  It’s like she’s always been there, you know?”
Jimmy’s nodding, says something about that was how it was for him and a shy smile creases Chris’s face.   You’re melting; a little dizzy at the heartfelt words.
It is?   What did he just say?
Your brain has gone from panicked to short circuited: replaying that sentence over and over.  You ignore your phone’s frantic buzzing, miss most of Jimmy’s saying until he asks, curious as a cat.   “How did you keep this secret?”
Chris grins.  “She’s Anthony Russo’s right hand.  Goes almost everywhere that I do with the Avengers movies being made.”
Ok that’s good.  Good. He’s brought it back to the reason that he’s there—press for Infinity War—you think that Jimmy will move on to the debut but then Chris does the unthinkable.
Perhaps he’s still a little flustered or maybe his brain invaded for a moment by the God of Mischief.
He waves his big strong hand toward the right stage wings. “She’s here.”
Oh my fucking god.
A studio camera whips right ‘round but you’re in shock.   You can’t believe it.  Your carefully protected secret.  Held for months.  Friends and family have sworn a pact.  Every little move carefully choreographed and this impetuous goofball has just outed you to the world!
There’s a producer in headset tapping you on the shoulder but you’re shaking your head; turning away and bending over.  Hiding your face in your hands and clutching your clipboard hard, thanking every god you know that you’ve worn a business suit.
(Out of the corner of your eye you can see the feed.  Oh great.  Your ass is on national television.  Hastily you straighten up.)
Over on set Jimmy’s hand is waving lazily at you to come out. The audience is clapping, louder and louder but still you mutely shake your head.
No.  Way.  This is Chris’s thing.  You are not stepping into his limelight. Marvel’s limelight.  Fuck, Kevin Feige is gonna have an aneurysm.
Jimmy, the heartless bastard, is still laughing.  “She’s kinda shy.
“Not really…but,” Chris stutters.  He’s wide-eyed and worrying. Trying to apologize.  “I’m sorry. Sorry.  I didn’t mean…”
He didn’t mean to what?  Implode your world?  Live?  The buzzing in your pocket has gone nuclear.  Your hear Anthony’s dedicated tone and Joe’s.  A few others with no alert and you wonder if it’s his agent Josh and manager Brad, on top of Susan.   Oh god. You’re almost hyperventilating. Will you get fired?  Will you still have a job on Monday morning?  Will your friend Lena who you haven’t told ever speak to you again??
Jimmy looks over anxiously at you and, bless his sensitive soul, gets that this might be a little much.  They cut the feed away and like a pro, he starts to dial it back
“Ok… What’s her name?”
“Y/N.”
“And where did you meet?”
“On the set of Avengers 4.”   Suddenly you’re thinking of Frank Grillo.  Another excitable Marvel guy with Italian parents.  Talks with his hands as if he’s conducting an orchestra but that moment he had nothing on Chris.  The hands you love are almost dancing as he relays Bautista’s accident, excitedly talks about your mutual love of baseball.  It’s adorable and overwhelming.
But still not what Chris is being paid to do.
You think you are about to be in the clear when Jimmy launches his next question.
“And what’s the puppy’s name?”
Chris chuckles and shakes his head.   “About that….”
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~****~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two events happen in the immediate aftermath.
Puppy’s nameless state becomes a thing. And your previously 250 follower-Twitter feed explodes.
By the time you make it back into his dressing room your name is trending.  Chris holds you anxiously in his arms, apologizing over and over until you have to put your hands across his mouth.
“It’s ok.”
“It’s not.  I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me.  I don’t.”  He frowns, runs his hands up and down your arms.  He smells of aftershave and the heavy sweet lilies stuffed into a giant crystal vase.  You normally hate their smell but weirdly not in that moment.
“Well I do, but shit.  Y/N, I love you.  I just couldn’t hold it in.”
A giant bloom of hope and happiness races through your chest.  “And I love you.”  You’re crying and laughing all at once. “Chris Evans, you are such a fucking meatball.”
“Yeah. Well I’m your meatball.”
The searing kiss lasts until a panicked Susan, come down in person, knocks upon the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Turns out Chris Evans trending for any reason short of murder is good for Marvel too.
The next day you a get bazillion texts from friends, get grilled by Susan and Chris’s agent Josh about your past until Chris is forced to growl, and learn all about block chains out of necessity.  While you and Chris were lying in (naked, oblivious and very occupied) that morning some enterprising hack went to work with Getaway’s employee list and guessed your twitter handle.
Shit.  Lesson learned.
The afternoon is spent fielding calls and messages.  The most precious text you get is from Tara, Chris’s best best friend.  You’ve only met her once, overwhelmed in the giant Evans-Capuano New Years party where you first met his family.  She was lovely but you haven’t really talked.
<Welcome to the crazy whirl—we’ve got your back.>
Wow.   Deep breath.  Guess this means it’s real.
And kind of overwhelming.  Chris is off again in days for the long-planned European opening of Infinity War and you’re at home, doing your job (the long lead in for Avengers 4 post production) and holding down the fort.  This includes taking Dodger and puppy out, and at first you’re nervous, knowing you will be followed, Josh arranges for guards to enforce a breathable perimeter away from the vile, scum-sucking paps.  It works.  Folks get the hint mostly and eventually leave off.
But the fuss over puppy’s nameless state?  That keeps on going….
Chris tweets about the new member family: a hundred thousand responses in the first two minutes. He mentions that puppy has learned to sit and stay and it goes viral.  Your twitter and his are literally inundated with puppy names—yours from friends and his from fans.  Even random peeps on the street get in on the act.
Instead of Miles’ ‘I don’t wike it” being called out to him, people now shout puppy names.
He laughs, and like Steve Rogers, pulls out a small notebook and writes them down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~****~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This state of ridiculousness lasts for the whole time that he is gone.
Thank heaven you can telework.  Chris’s normally immaculate office is a riot of your stuff but it sure helps.  Puppy is growing so fast, he needs constant supervision.  First he jumps up and gets the car keys off the island; chews them until the car alarm goes off.  Then he slides across the kitchen floor and accidentally knocks the cupboard kick plate out.  A priceless Himalayan poppy is shredded into tiny, forlorn blue bits.  A rather more mundane knitted sock winds up, unraveled, strung between lounging chairs.
You amuse Chris by texting pictures of the contraband.
Puppy’s personality grows just like his paws.  He’s smart and biddable, if anything almost more of a sap than Dodger.  You work on leash training, and sit and stay, endure the inevitable hilarious tabloid pictures of puppy looking confused at the walking park.  He loves to snuggle at your feet but also is more skittish, less confident than Dodger--   easily spooked-- and you suppose this is because the wide world is so big and new. Dodger was a rescue but grew up in a home.  Puppy has spent all his days inside a cage.
It comes out, sometimes, in hilarious and unexpected ways.
One day he shies away from, but then furiously demolishes, an ‘indestructable’ Ovis frisbee.   Another he barks manically at barbeque sauce.  Once he cowers at the sigh of just one trash can. (the other is ok??).  The escape artist comes out when one morning he bolts through the closing electric gate.   A startled photog thinks quick grabs him by the collar  (That is a puppy?  What is he?  Cerebus?)
All this fills your time but still you miss Chris something fierce.  He’s in Rome and Bucharest and Berlin.  Running from event to event. Tired, stressed, and you wish you could be there.
All throughout the puppy name ideas keep coming in.  After Renner instagrams  ”Evans can’t name a dog”  the suggestions come flying thick and fast and then the sneaky snarky shit goes to town—Jeremy puts it in a poll on his private app.  The one he does for fans to interact with him.  Of course you need to follow just to see what’s trending, to tease Chris with the top rated latest idea, and that is how you wind up in your pj’s, enveloped by twenty pounds of puppy and  more of Dodger in the middle of the day when IW has its London premiere. Chris looks amazing in a silvered, deep indigo and mauve silk suit by Ferragamo.  It’s edgy and fun—Mackie’s teases him about it but clothes horse Sebastian approves.
After the red carpet and introductions to the Prince and Princess (only you know how many times he’d practised that perfect bow) they take their seats and you shoot him a text with the latest names.
<How about Cerebus?>
<Thumbs down>
“Bruno?>
<Blah>
<Beethoven>
<He’s not a St Bernard>
There’s a pause.  You wait patiently until the little dots start up again.
<Sry. Chris put popcorn down my shirt>
They are such kids.  Pratt or Hemsworth.  Either could be the culprit.
<Those Renner’s top rated stars?>   This is followed by a barfing face.
You laugh.  <Least it’s not doggymcdogface>
<Shut up>
<Make me>
You’re pretty sure his answer counts as sexting.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~****~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once Chris gets back he and Susan hatch what they think is a brilliant plan for your proper coming out.
You hate it.
You are terrified.
Ten of days of complicated, exhausting back and forth between the CGI guys and studio pass in a whirl and before you know it the day arrives.  May 3rd.
Infinity War’s New York Premiere.
You both fly out, leave Scott to sit at the house and start down the incredible set that lines the huge red carpet.  Photographers, literally a hundred of them, have come from all over the world for this night. You are shaking like a leaf, beyond nervous as you’ve never been before.  Chris’s stylist had picked out a gorgeous gown; ruched and slim, ice lavender, it’s right on with the latest trend and shows off your height.  (The funky diamond and fluorite necklet Chris surprised you with is worth more than your monthly salary but he insisted.)
“You look beautiful.”  Chris whispers in your ear,  surreptitiously brushing his fingers across your ass.  It makes you flush right as you both walk slowly  past the waiting phalanx.
“Chris! Y/N!  Here. Look here.”
“Chris!  Chris!  Here!”
“How’s puppy?” someone shouts and he answers right away.
“Great! He’s with my little brother.”
“Got a name yet?”
“Nope.”
There’s a ripple of laughter at that.  You stand a little dazed.  Chris holds your hand and  strokes a warm palm across your lower-back and you aren’t sure which of you it calms the most.  You keep expecting Susan’s assistant Joan to touch your elbow, the pre-approved signal to break away, but Chris keeps you there, shakes his head at her and holds you hard.
When Elizabeth and Scarlet sweep up and join him you step quickly back; let them flirt and laugh and answer questions; have a great time joking about how weird it was to work with bearded Cap.  They seem lovely; you know them just a little from the set but you don’t ‘know them’ know them.  Maybe at the after party you’ll get that chance.
Just when you begin frown and wonder if it’s weird you’re just standing there, a hand pulls at your elbow, drags you back to the centre of the throng.
It’s Robert.  Beaming as he wraps you in a hug and plants the biggest kiss on your cheek.  Tucks you at his side while you blush furiously. You know him a little more because you’d worked the Siberia unit set.
“Hey,” he smiles.  “You good?”
“Trying,” you admit and he hugs you hard just as an overly made up woman in thigh high slit gown and sky high heels stalks forward and sticks a microphone in his face.
“Robert!  Robert Downey Junior!  Brooke from E! here.  What do you think about the rave reviews Infinity War is getting?”
He smiles a little wanly, waits for her to acknowledge you and when she doesn’t ignores her question blithely. “Brooke, great to see you.   Have you met Y/N?  One of the best damn producers in the biz.  She’s one of the reasons for those reviews.”
Oh lord, but RDj is like this. Positive, Lovely. And occasionally full of shit.
You are not a producer, you are a second assistant producer. You want to die but settle for digging an elbow in his ribs   (He giggles, but of course Robert has the chutzpah to pull it off).
Miss-self-centred-celebrity-interviewer frowns, plucked brows furrowed into a fairly accurate image of permanent confused surprise.  “Great,” she bullshits and gamely ploughs right on.  “Robert any predictions you want to make?”
She means about fan response.  Folks expect the movie has been hyped but you know,  frame by frame, how great it is.
You smile a little proudly, and glance up at Robert, wondering what he’ll say.  His eyes are hidden by the trademark coloured glasses but something about the stiff set of his jaw says he’s pissed.   By how rude she is.
His answer makes your jaw almost hit the floor.
“Predictions?  Sure.” He looks fondly down at you and then over to the big muscled guy to his right.  “Y/N here will be the best damn thing that ever happened to Chris Evans.”
Wha..?   …?”
Before you can even frame a coherent thought Robert quips “See, look at this. He can’t be away from her for more than a heartbeat.”
It’s true.  Chris has hoped back to grab your hand again and now you are sandwiched between your gorgeous boyfriend and one of Hollywood’s true legendary stars.  You sneak a peek at them both.  They’re happy and grinning and bantering back and forth.
The part of you that isn’t terrified wants to pinch yourself at where you are.
Later, in the theatre’s dark with an epic battle raging overhead, you reflect on how freaky your life has become.  Before it was secrecy and haphazard dates; knees touching under table cloths and walking late in the evening with no one about.  Now it’s sitting next to this amazing man, in public in the middle of the afternoon,  while he squeezes your knee and kisses your palm every chance he gets.   Like a pair of giddy teenagers you whisper to each other, touch and flirt, get shushed by a grinning Scarlet.
It’s amazing and crazy and just like a dream but it gets even crazier the next day when E! magazine runs the  byline “Is this the one?”.  Next to a picture of you, one hand on Chris’s chest, looking up adoringly into his eyes.  He has the softest smile and looks so happy he could burst.
Tara texts  <I sure hope so>
All you can think is when did they take that?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~****~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You fly back to Los Angeles and Chris does Chicago and D.C. but, finally, mid-May he is back home.  Dodger and puppy are overjoyed.  You settle into something of a routine.  Work, workouts, hanging with friends, keeping up on puppy training.  Walking puppy three times a day to keep him happy and just a little less rambunctious.  The world has got used to the idea that you’re a thing so a few less paps haunt the gate.
Puppy by default gets called puppy all the time.
One Saturday morning you are both huddled on the couch indulging a second cappuccino when Chris’s phone rings.  It’s Susan’s tone.  Reluctantly he puts it on speaker phone so he doesn’t have to hold it to his ear.
His lips are kinda occupied, buzzing along your collarbone.
“Hmmm, Suz?  What’s up?”
“A new invitation came in for an event I think that you should do.”
Chris frowns, wondering why this has to be handled now. “When?”
“End of June.”
“Kinda busy with Red Sea opening near then.”
“I know.  But I think you’ll really want to see this one.”  Susan sounds like she is smiling.  Intriguing. Normally she’s so straight-faced, looks more like a poker player with a shitty hand.
“Ok.”  Chris is shrugging as you mime a question.
“I’ll send the car over with the invite.”
Now?  Wow. It obviously is a major deal.
Thirty minutes later the doorbell rings, Dodger and puppy race for the door, stand there with tails wagging while Chris accepts the envelope from Susan’s driver.
He flops back beside you on the couch.  You scoop puppy up, give him a scratch behind both silky ears while Chris runs a fingernail under the flap.
“Holy shit!”
You lean over and peer across his muscled shoulder.  “What is it?”
“An invitation from the Bosox’s owner John Henry himself.”
“To what?” you ask, thinking of his beer-drenched, football weekends with the guys.  This would be a perfect opportunity but you’re the Red Sox’s biggest fan.  Maybe Scott could sit again and you both have a weekend to yourselves?
“Their ‘dog day at Fenway’”
“What?!”  You squeal. “Yes!”  You shake puppy’s paw and his kiss his snout.  “Oh my god little guy you get to see the Green Monster for yourself.”
Chris laughs.  The Green Monster is Fenway Park’s fabled left field wall. The highest in the MLB.   “So long as he doesn’t piddle on it. We’re going to do it then?  Says here they need an answer by Monday.”
You shake your head incredulously at Chris.   “Are you kidding?  Our favourite team?  The most famous field in all of baseball!  Of course we’re doing it!  And besides, our first date was there.  It’s awesome.”
It is.  Dodger, catching some of your excitement, gets all keyed up.  He jumps up and puts his paw on Chris’s knee.  His master gives it a grave shake, purses his lips thoughtfully.  “Hmmm. Maybe we can take a couple days off. Hang with mom and everyone.  Charter a jet to make it easy to fly both these dudes.”
You like that idea.  The only thing dampening your enthusiasm was the thought of putting puppy in an airplane hold.  Chris reaches down and gives Dodger’s head a pat before looking across at you, a slow smile spreading along his lips.  Your soulful boyfriend has saved the best bit for last.
“They want me to throw out the first pitch.  With Dodger and puppy there.”
“Woohoo!!”   That’s it. Pandemonium breaks out.   You’re up and dancing with an excited, yipping ball of fluff in your arms, while Chris grabs Dodger and gets his face washed excitedly.
“We need red ribbons for their collars,” you exclaim, “and to get them groomed and…”
“Whoa.  First things first.   I need to work on my pitch.”
“Oh I can help with that.  I’ve got good hands.”
With a glove you mean, but Chris chuckles mischievously and leans in to catch your lips in his.  “I know. Maybe we should go work on ‘signs’.”
Oh god.  You laugh through the feather softness of his kiss along your jaw, shiver as it presses harder and finds the hollow of your throat.  So good.  Your eyes are starting to glaze over while a perfect liquid heat pools low in your core. Several blissful moments are then lost to making out before the ‘kids’ begin to wriggle.
Puppy’s whining in that way that says he needs to pull up a tree
Reluctantly you break apart and make a face. “Parent time.” Chris sets Dodger down and goes over to the French doors, slides them open and lets both dogs out into the yard.  It’s warm and a little hazy.  You grab your half empty mug and the invitation, sit at the outdoor dining table to read it through.
God this is incredible.  They want Chris to throw out the first pitch and join Mr. Henry in his suite.  Lead the seventh inning stretch and bring you too. You’re named.  Wow.  It’s unbelievable.  You look up at Chris and smile, shielding your eyes from the climbing sun.
He’s stretching out his shoulders, flexing to get out the kinks.   It makes you want to run your hands up underneath his shirt.
Focus Y/N, focus.
You tap your fingernails thoughtfully on the mug.  ‘Fenway.  I still can’t believe it.  Puppy and Dodger going to Fenw…  Wait.  That’s it!”  You sit straight up.  It’s perfect.  How had you never thought of it before?
“What?”   Chris swipes your mug to take a swig, cocks one eyebrow, keeping half an eye on the dogs as they go about their routine.
“Puppyu needs a name.  Before we get to the park. Look.”  You shake the heavy vellum under Chris’s nose.  The Red Sox’s address is in big green lettering at the top.
“Fenway.  It’s the perfect name.”
Chris looks over at the little guy, chasing after Dodger with his tongue lolling out and ears flapping in the wind.  It’s been two whole months since you brought him home. Two months that feel more like two days and have been an amazing ride.
“Fenway.  Dodger and Fenway.  I love it. It so works.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~****~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Epilogue.
From Boston’s NESN-TV feed.   June 27, 2018.  Jerry Remy and Steve Lyons announcing.
“Well folks look at that.  It’s a high looping curve ball, right over the plate and Vasquez nabs it easily. He jogs out to the mound.  Hands it straight to tonight’s special first pitch guest: Chris Evans.  Captain America himself has just thrown out the ball on tonight’s Sox-Tribe game.  A long anticipated matchup that is sure to be a slug fest.”
“You’re right about that Jerry.  The fans, and their pooches, are keyed up for this game on ‘dog day at Fenway’, brought to you by Nutrisource and the Sox’s great management.  37,000 here tonight.  Almost capacity.”
“How many dogs?”
“No official stat on that…but the two cutest gotta be out on there right now.  Dodger and Fenway.  Chris Evans’ and his girlfriend Y/N’s pups.”
“No doubt about it Steve.  They’re both being very good dogs there, standing with Miss Y/N.  Now Mr. Henry and tonight’s managers, Alex Cora and Tito Francona, and the plate umpire come forward to shake Mr Evans’ and Miss Y/N’s hands.  Starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz tips his cap.  We’re just waiting for Mr. Henry to say a few words.”
“Hmm.  There seems to be a bit of a delay.  Can you tell what’s going on?  The big wigs have all stepped back.”
“Not sure. Wait. Oh lordy.  Mr. Evans has gone down on one knee.”
“Yup.  No doubt about it.  Folks we are witnessing history here.  Mr. Evans is holding Miss Y/N’s hand and pulling something out of his pocket.  It’s looks sparkly and suspiciously like a ring. Miss Y/N is nodding her head and those are definitely tears upon her face.”
“What an amazing moment.  The crowd is on its feet.  The whole stadium is pounding from the cheering.  Mr. Evans has now stood up and wow that kiss might just bust our rating.”
“Dang it, Jer, there’s something in my eye.”
“Mine too.  What a phenomenal way to start this series. The organist has struck up ‘It’s a Wonderful World’ and there’s one heck of powerful hug going on down there.”
“Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
“And gal.”
“Absolutely.  They’re slowly starting to walk off, hand in hand, waving to the crowd and the dogs are trotting along.  A storybook start to a new life.  We wish them every happiness.”
“We sure do.  Look at that. Both dugouts have emptied to salute them.  Nice touch.  Class acts both teams.”
“For sure.  And while the happy couple take a few last waves the infield has filed back to their spots. Pomeranz is scuffing his cleats on the spike cleaner, getting ready for his set up.”
“It’s a beautiful and special night Boston.  Let’s play ball.”

New story in Politics from Time: Balloon Drops? Out. Roaring Crowds? Gone. But, Says NBC’s Lester Holt, There’s Still A Convention to Cover
This article is part of the The DC Brief, TIME’s politics newsletter. Sign up here to get stories like this sent to your inbox every weekday.
We’re only a few hours away from the first virtual political convention from gaveling into session and it’s already clear things are going to be very, very different.
For one, the journalists who normally crowd the convention hall for the big moments are going to be dialed in from their kitchen counters and living room couches like other Americans still stuck at home in the middle of the pandemic. There won’t be rogue delegates to interview or random chants from the floor to cause embarrassing, off-brand moments. There may still be surprises, but they’re likely to be the kind that have been scripted and executed by the conventions’ producers.
For veterans of past conventions, the all-remote set-up is just the latest hiccup in this year’s election season as the world grapples with coronavirus. Both parties have almost entirely switched to streaming schedules and cut way back on the hours of floor programming. The Democrats’ convention starts tonight, followed by Republicans’ show this time next week. News organizations will still treat the evenings as the political ground zero that they are, but there’s just a lot less sizzle in the offing as the very campaign trail has turned into a very long Facetime. There may be some upside to cutting back on the hours and hours of speeches: a quicker and less inefficient night of political preening.
Ahead of the conventions’ start, I caught up with NBC News’ Lester Holt, the first Black man to be a U.S. network newscast’s solo anchor. He will be leading the network’s coverage of the conventions during 10 p.m. hour. With ratings up for flagship news broadcasts across the networks, we talked about how he’s been framing the colliding stories of a pandemic, racial justice, and a presidential campaign that politicizes everything, including masks. For the next two weeks, Holt will be reporting from NBC’s Midtown Manhattan studios — a spot he’s only seen a handful of times since March. Our conversation has been edited for concision and clarity.
You’re about to anchor a global event while not there. What is that like?
Well, it’s particularly strange for me, because one of the hallmarks at Nightly News is that I like to take viewers to the story. I want to talk to people. I want to bring a personal connection to the story. And, of course, we have lost that ability on a lot of the things we cover. Part of conventions are the conversations in the hallway, it’s the people you run into. You pick up little nuggets along the way. This is going to be very different watching in a studio people who may be giving speeches from their living rooms or their kitchens.
This is kind of terrible on a personal level, isn’t it?
Oh, sure. It is. It’s just one thing that we took for granted that’s been taken from us. From a personal level, I had a lot of expectations this summer. I was going to be covering the Olympics. I was going to be covering these two conventions, traveling to wherever the debates are. None of those things are happening, but the process of electing a President goes on. Like so many Americans and so many businesses, we’re figuring it out as we go along.
This year has been a rough one for our business. You mentioned the Olympics, which is an NBC institution. That’s off the table for the moment. We’ve got no conventions, no campaign road warriors. How do we as an industry make it through this while also continuing to do exceptional journalism?
The candidates simply aren’t traveling. I mean, the President has been traveling some and within the White House bubble. We’ve had some access in Delaware to Joe Biden, but you’re right. We’re not able to cover things the way we used to. Thank God for Zoom and some of the other technologies we’ve been able to employ. But I’m not going to lie: It’s hard to replace that one-on-one contact, that ability to cultivate sources and just listen to people and voters and decision-makers about what’s happening.
Your audience is used to a visual medium. We’re going from balloon drops and pandemonium to what is basically a Zoom happy hour. How do you get your audience ready for that?
The speeches will be the speeches. But at least with the Democrats, you’re not going to hear a crowd roaring its approval or reacting in any way. I guess in this aspect, we’re going to be really focused on the words themselves, because the performance art that is part of conventions, that part is going to be missing. The imagery is so different. You mentioned a hall with balloons dropping. We’re going to see somebody’s toaster in the background.
Might we actually be getting to a point where we’re looking at the ideas instead of pageantry?
I think so. Look at the four years ago. “Lock her up” became a mantra for some of candidate Trump’s supporters of that time. Those moments, we probably won’t see. And so we’re going to be forced to focus on the messages, the timing, the words as opposed to how the crowd reacts or those surprise moments in the crowd or the demonstrations. I would argue that we’re not going to have as many distractions that we might otherwise have.
If this whole thing is scripted from the start, why bother with it?
They bother because they know that they’re going to get the television coverage. You and I are old enough to remember the days when it was wall-to-wall convention coverage on the networks. That’s not happening anymore. But it’s still valuable real estate on network television. So I can’t imagine either candidate even considering for a moment not doing a televised convention. It’s still part of the process.
Where will you be physically sitting during this?
I’ll be in Studio 1A, The Today Show studio, with Savannah Guthrie. Of course, we’ll be physically distanced. Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd will be in a studio in Washington, D.C., so four of us will navigate through the evenings.
On the personal side, being able to go to the studio, and sit next to Savannah is a huge upgrade. I’ve been sitting in a spare bedroom for the last several months doing Nightly News by myself every night. It’s been a lonely existence. I’m not complaining. Obviously, there are a lot of people going through tough times. But the ability to come back to 30 Rock and sit in the studio is something that I’m personally excited about.
Have you embraced what the rest of us have during this: a suit, tie and athleisure below the desk?
I’ll be honest. I’m usually wearing jeans, but I gladly put on that jacket and shirt and tie. Now, having said that, I have gone out to do interviews for Nightly News pieces and Dateline. So I’m not inside all the time. But in terms of anchoring, it’s primarily been from a home.
We’re in the middle of three major stories converging at once, and the story on race has been one where you’ve been pretty frank. Do you have a platform that perhaps Norah O’Donnell and David Muir don’t?
People look at me. They expect me to have an opinion or to be affected by these things. That doesn’t necessarily show a bias but it’s a recognition of who I am as a person. People come to this broadcast presumably because they trust me and they respect me. If I didn’t say anything, I think it would be disappointing. Now, I choose my words carefully. But I don’t think it’s a bias to want this country to live up to its ideals, that it’s a bias for this country to be fair, that it’s a bias for people to want their police to function in service of people.
This might be the biggest story of our career. The whole mantra is journalism is a first draft of history. You have a say in what goes in the history book. What makes the cut?
I wrote the intro to the broadcast last night. We’d just come off another weekend of huge crowds of people, openly defying local and the state regulations. This didn’t air, but it was something to the effect that when the history is written of why this country failed in dealing with this pandemic, volumes will be spent on our inability to do the simple things like wearing a mask and socially distancing. That’s a paraphrase, but it’s pretty close. I think it’s appropriate sometimes to call it like it is.
This is an important time for journalism. This is an important story. And when it landed at our doorstep, I thought, ‘Alright, you know, we’ve taken three and a half years of a beating, of people trying to discredit us, but this is a story that everyone has to pay attention to, that people will recognize the importance of a free press.’ That happened, but then the politics creeped back into it. I guess I was a little naïve. I didn’t expect that.
I thought that this could be seen for what it was: a health threat that we all shared. Instead, suddenly it became seen through the lens of blue and red again. That was crushingly disappointing. It worries me about our future that even something like this has been marred by politics.
Can we purge the politics from it, or is it too late?
I think it’s too late. Most people get what it takes to fight this disease. They understand masks and social distancing. This has become almost the new global warming. The planet is getting warmer. That’s not a political statement, but it is for some people. COVID is spreading because too many people are crowding together. It’s not a political statement, but some people will see it as such.
How dare you embrace science and fact?
The thing is as journalists, we obviously have to report the body of science on this, which is huge in the direction of social distancing and get that mask wearing. We don’t want to be caught up in a political debate. I don’t want people to think I’m being political when I say we should all be wearing masks. Unfortunately, that’s what the environment has kind of led us down the road to.

New top story from Time: Balloon Drops?

8 week weight loss transformation - Healthista
Healthista’s Vanessa Chalmers did an eight week weight loss transformation with Ben Camara at No1 Fitness to boost her confidence. She lost over stone and a staggering five inches around her waist and shares her results in the first of an eight-week diary
People always say to me, ‘you are so healthy’. But they never finish the sentence with ‘and fit, too!’ I enjoy exercise, but not nearly as much as food. Bored, fed up and disappointed with my lack of progress in the past three years of my fitness career (if you can call it that), I decided it was definitely time for a challenge. A much bigger one than the long list of them before.
Nothing was giving me ‘wow’ results. I needed help
It was the feeling of hitting a brick wall that first spurred me on to do something extreme. Or better defined, more advanced. I’ve rinsed home HIIT workouts, racking up miles of running or following the mind numbing ‘bikini body’ plans in the gym – all alone. Nothing was giving me ‘wow’ results. I needed help.
I set my eyes upon one of London’s top personal trainers, Ben Camara. Interviewing him for Healthista’s Celebrity Trainer Secrets feature, I was gobsmacked at a transformation (below), which landed him with a Men’s Health Champion Trainer Award.
Ben Camara’s Men’s Health Transformation with Sam Pridham
Turns out his gym, No1 Fitness, specialises in body transformations and getting you to ‘look good naked’, which certainly sounds appealing. Not only is Ben a PT, but a health coach – kinda like an upgrade. His job is to oversee a whole lifestyle and put strategies in place to improve things like sleep and stress, an approach that makes No1 Fitness unique. It also meant replying to my moany ‘I want mince pies and a large glass of wine, now’ texts with words of encouragement, a daily occurence.
Myself and Ben Camara, health coach and the founder of No1 Fitness
This made all the difference and, eight extremely tough weeks later, the results were worth all the sacrifices. Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing my diary every Tuesday with you including exactly what I ate, got told off for eating and my workouts (not to mention my tantrums and low points).
Skip to read day one of my weight loss transformation here. For now, here are my results in numbers:
Before After Loss Weight 65.7kg/10.3stone 58.8kg/9.2stone 6.9kg/15lbs Body fat percentage 25.1% 19.7% 5.4% Body fat mass 16.5kg 11.6kg 4.9kg Hip 102.5cm/40.3inch 96.2cm/37.8inch 6.3cm/2.5inch Waist below belly button 91cm/35.8inch 77.3cm/30.4inch 13.7cm/5.3inch Umbilicus (belly fat) 33mm* 16.2mm* 16.8mm* Tricep (back of the arm fat) 32.2mm* 19.8mm* 12.4mm*
*mm = millimetres. Umbilical and tricep readings are taken using a caliper to pinch the skin folds.
Body weight graph using Boditrax scanning
After: My body fat was towards thin/muscular
It wasn’t a completely smooth ride – in week 5 I was still self-doubting my abilities, having treats and prodding my chub in front of the mirror. Normally, at this point, I would give up. Persistence paid off. My clothes started to hang loose, and I was digging out old skirts I had hoped to fit in again. People began complimenting a slimmer face and asking, ‘what workouts are you doing?’ With fresh motivation, I smashed the last three weeks with sheer determination – if I say so myself. To my surprise, I lost over a stone and reached under 20 per cent body fat, and I gained self belief.
Why I did the weight loss transformation
Admittedly, the sexy-hot-bod wasn’t the top of my agenda. After losing 12lbs on the Healthista Lean Energy Programme at the beginning of the year (something that actually worked in which I lost 12 pounds), it had been a summer of pure chill. Beer gardens, boozy BBQs and holidays. It wasn’t just my gym attendance that plummeted, but my mental health, too.
I wallowed in self-pity. It was a vicious cycle
Although my jeans became snugger, my weight was the last thing I cared about. Clearly – because I continued to make misguided choices, like bingeing on thousands of calories at 3am after a ‘de-stress’ drinking sesh. This also made my eczema the worst it had been since I was a child. I scratched, ate and wallowed in self-pity. It was a vicious cycle.
In a rut, my lowest point came one morning when I had forced myself to get up and go the gym. I was trying helplessly to fight back tears through the burpees (enough to make you cry anyway, if you ask me). After ten minutes on the gym floor I ran to the changing rooms and cried for an hour. Desperate for change, to boost my confidence and outlook on life, I soon got in contact with No1 Fitness.
What is involved in a weight loss transformation?
Blood, sweat and tears. Just kidding, sort of. But what became apparent in my first chat with Ben, was that compared to normal weight loss journeys, there was no room for ‘treats’ or days off in the eight weeks. (But typical me, I did sneak in a few here and there, sometimes, with big consequences). Instead, it was consistency, sacrifices and sheer determination from day one. And that was just the mental test.

For the diet, I was on a calorie deficit  – just that word makes my toes curl – (see below for details). I was also intermittent fasting, a popular weight loss method which means not eating for 15-16 hours a day (8 of which I was sleeping). The weekend before my transformation I had a binge on (most) of the things I wouldn’t be allowed – alcohol, sugar, white processed carbs like pasta and bread, ‘anything out of a packet’, did I mention all things yummy?
From there on, every meal focused on protein first. This helps with muscle recovery, but most of all it helps with the feeling of being full. I had Healthista Lean Vegan protein powder in my breakfast smoothie (raspberries, kefir milk and spinach) every day, which has ingredients scientifically proven to keep appetite at bay and encourage fat loss – inulin, glutamine, konjac root and matcha green tea. It also tastes delicious – I can’t decide between vanilla and chocolate so I alternated the two.  It really worked to keep me full between meals more than any other breakfasts I have had – even, when I experimented with having other alternative breakfasts, I always felt hungrier than I would after I’d had our protein )I know I am bias, but it’s true).  An example of lunch would be a green leafy salad with spicy chicken and quinoa, and dinner a fillet of salmon with sweet potato and, you guessed it, more veg!
I really felt part of the #fitfam club hitting the gym 5-6 days a week getting up at 5.45am each day, with a mix of one hour PT sessions with Ben and half hour No1 Fitness Slots (these were circuit classes at either studio). I was doing high intensity sessions – lifting weights in circuits, heavier and heavier as the weeks went on, with short cardio intervals. Always full body, because apparently, split training (doing arms one day, and legs the next) is for a body-builder look. There wasn’t a burpee in sight, hallelujah. Instead, top-notch equipment such as the prowler sled, a cage-like apparatus that you push across the floor, ViPR, a weighted tube, TRX bands, ropes with handles that hang from the ceiling and only use bodyweight exercises, and the Skillmill, a more advanced version of a running machine. I look forward to telling you much more about these in my detailed diary entries in the next few weeks.
How to lose weight in the new year
Hands up if you are on the ‘new year, new me’ wagon. There is no shame in wanting to lose weight in the new year with fresh motivation. For optimum results, Ben shares his do’s and don’ts of weight loss.
Have a goal: People stay on track much more when they have an end date such as a wedding or a holiday, knowing they must sacrifice until that time at least. Don’t just do a ‘detox’ in the first week of January. Set a proper plan in place till the end of March at least.
Give it time: Substantial change can take anything from 8-12 weeks. If you aren’t seeing any difference after three weeks, it means your calories aren’t right or you aren’t recovering enough. You will also slip up at times, but don’t let it stop you. Don’t think that having a chocolate bar has ruined your whole day – you can still make good choices moving forward.
Train at least three times a week: Put sessions in your diary at the beginning of the week and commit to it like an appointment.
A post shared by Vanessa (@vanessa_chalmers) on Nov 18, 2017 at 2:22am PST
Create a calorie deficit: Work out what your baseline calories (what you need to survive) are by using the Harris Benedict equation. This is called your BMR (basic metabolic rate). Then create a deficit of 10 per cent to start which will work alongside calories burnt during exercise. If you are seeing no results (and definitely not lying to yourself), lower the deficit more. It’s a rough guide. I started my transformation on 1650 calories a day, but this was lowered to 1500 in week two when results were slow, and then 1350 when my BMR would have decreased.
If you’re serious, get a personal trainer: The benefit of a PT is someone to push you in your sessions and hold you accountable. They will make sure you are exercising correctly with the best form and rest time, which will make a big difference. When you’re trying to find a good PT, interview them. Tell them exactly what you want – whether that be to be fitter, healthier or stronger – and ask them if they are able to do that and show you results from work with previous clients. With some PTs, you’re just paying someone to make you sweaty for an hour. You have to tell them you want more guidance.
Learn the correct form: Even if you have a one of session with a PT, correcting your form will achieve maximum muscle activation and prevent injury or worthless workouts. Throughout the next eight weeks, we shall show you how to correctly perform several exercises. You can also find Healthista’s Move of the Day playlist on YouTube.
Rest, rest, rest: Some people are shocked to hear ‘don’t train’. But it’s a huge part of getting results. The body transforms whilst you are sleeping, and so not getting enough will not only hinder your weight loss, but make you knackered and underperforming in your gym sessions. To get the best results, you need to have eight hours sleep a night and making sure they have at least one full day off training a week.
Keep a food diary: For the first two weeks, at least. This will educate you on your eating habits, portion size and how calorific, or not, your foods are if you use an app like MyFitnessPal. After two weeks, if you are still needing help, seek a coach. They will be able to show you how you can tweak things to suit your needs.
I kept track of my food with MyFitnessPal
Weigh yourself: Some say ‘screw the scales’. But you need to weigh yourself once a week for a time period, to see your progress. It’s easy to say ‘weighing yourself will mess with your head’. But so will looking in the mirror and not seeing any change. If your goal is to lose body fat, it may be better to take photo or measurements. Understand your weight will fluctuate naturally, especially if you are a female. Do it the same time every day, in the same clothes.
Work on time under tension: On linear movements, things like lunges, squats, deadlifts, push ups, or anything in a straight line that pushes or pulls, focus on the eccentric phase, that means the ‘going down’ phase. If you are squatting, make sure you are going down for four seconds, and up for one. This is called time under tension, and recruits all the muscles. Incorporate multidirectional moves, such as curtsy squat into lateral lunge, tranverse lunge or lunge matrix, for your tissue health and to help with toning.
DON’T
Have alcohol: It’s worth bearing in mind alcohol isn’t great not only because of the calories, but the after-effect on the body. The body wants to remove it straight away as it is poison, so it comes out in our pores, hence why breathalysers are possible. The day after drinking, the person is no doubt inactive and overeat foods that are really calorific. Look at the type of alcohol you are having – mojitos are full of sugar. Try neat vodka!
Go mad on treats: A given. But, if you do want to have a treat such as a few drinks on a Saturday night, just make sure you are super strict on yourself for the week leading up to it. This will make room for a little time off track.
Have ‘cheat days’: People go mad thinking they only have 24 hours to eat as much as they can. You can mess up a whole weeks work. If you decide you can’t sacrifice traditions or adjust your way of living, such as a takeaway on a Friday night, you can still lose weight, but you won’t get an extreme transformation with an aesthetic look. I wasn’t even allowed a cheat meal (though I did have them, stay tuned).
Remove a macronutrient: Don’t go low carb or low fat for weight loss because you always need a balanced diet to perform mentally. Don’t forget this needs to be consistent, so you don’t want to fall into a trap of crashing and binging. If you must, only lower the quantity of a macronutrient.
Try a fad diet: Just eat natural, healthy and unprocessed foods. There are a lot of fad diets in the media, including the alkaline diet, Hollywood, juice diets or low carb.
Don’t do HIIT every day: HIIT exercise is great for weight loss and everybody’s workout plan will be different depending on their goals. But factor HIIT into your whole programme, as opposed to just doing that every day. Strength training should be the corner stone of a programme, with other protocols fitting in accordingly. HIIT can stress the body if done too much and it’s important to rest and recover properly during and after sessions. What people don’t understand is it should be interval training, meaning if you work to your max for 20 seconds doing jump squats, you are supposed to wait until your heart rate comes back down.
An outline of a basic programme by week would look a bit like this: 3 X strength training, 2 X HIIT, 2 X cardio as a possible extra with strength training.

""Insurance estimate way to low, help?""
Ok, So about 2 weeks ago I was at a friends house. When I walked out and was getting ready to get into my truck, I noticed all four windows from the passenger side and drivers side smashed out, along with my truck being keyed all around on every panel. I called my insurance company the next day and a few days later they sent someone to give an estimate. I wasn't there though. So I then received a check in the mail, along with the breakdown of the estimate. They gave me $2,600, minus my deductable left me stuck with a check for $1,600. I felt that was way to cheap for a brand new paint job and to replace my windows, so I went around and got quite a few estimates of my own. They ranged between $5,800 - $7,000. I faxed them over the estimates, and what they told me was that the way they worked was I'm supposed to show them their estimate and they are supposed to work with the shop owner from there. So today I went, and as the shop owner was reading through the estimate, he was laughing and pointing things out, saying they can't be serious. He said there is basically no shop that would do all that work for cheap. He says I might need a lawyer. Any advice guys? Because all I want is my truck fixed, and its turning into a big ordeal. I drive a 2003 Chevy Silverado just in case that matters. I also still have they check they gave me sitting my my drawer, haven't cashed it.""

Why should I have to pay for your health insurance?
An answerer on another question said, Do you have insurance? What of those who cannot afford it (my sister comes to mind, and she has a husband and two sons under age 18 years who are also not covered)? Medical care is extremely expensive and necessary. I'd much rather my tax dollars go toward a means of making insurance affordable to everyone than to fund an immoral war. Oh, and my sister and her husband have always worked very hard. Neither are fat, lazy bums who sit around all the time. Heck, my sister would love to have 10 minutes to herself, but can't take the time. * 20 minutes ago These people made a choice to have two children they cannot afford to insure. They had a responsibility to seek employment where they would have health insurance coverage for themselves and their two children. Or obtain insurance on their own. If they are healthy, it can be gotten at a rate comparable to what I pay through my work. I work two jobs. Both of my jobs, even the part-time job, offer me health insurance, so jobs with health benefits are not so hard to find. Why should I be made to pay for other people's poor choices? I have wants and needs, too, and it's MY money.""

If you buy life insurance in the US why is it illegal for companies/brokers to give rebates(legal in Ireland)?

Some companies - aside from brokers - also offer rebates, although not as generous. Now how can this broker afford to do that? Canada car insurance -- am I getting screwed?
Our 1990 GMC truck (average condition -- nothing special!) was vandalized about two months ago. The punks damaged the doors so badly trying to get in that our insurance co. was going to write it off. Aside from the doors, the truck is perfectly fine (runs great), so Hubby spoke to the adjuster who promised us a cash settlement , and said he wouldn't write the vehicle off. We got a chq in the mail, and used some of it to put new doors on the truck (it's not pretty, but we don't really care). NOW we got a letter from AB Transport saying that the truck is salvage, and no longer legal to drive. Insurance wrote it off! The cash is gone (spent very wisely -- don't judge!), and now we are being forced to buy a new truck. Insurance told Hubby that we didn't have a choice , but I thinks that's bogus. Hubby signed papers for the cash settlement, but nothing for the write off. CAN THEY DO THAT? What are our rights?""

Israelic terms on health insurance?
I had to redo an experiment by Tykocinski. She researched the impact of certain primes, one of which is health insurance. She did this study in Israel. We replicated this study in the Netherlands, but we found different results and now we need to figure out why. For this reason I would like to know: What is the word for health insurance in Hebrew and Arabic? And how would they translate 1 on 1 with the english language. Example: the Dutch word for health insurance is zorgverzekering, but if I translate the words apart from each other I get either worry insurance or care insurance (depending on the interpretation of the Dutch language) The answer to this question could help me greatly in this research!""

How much should I charge for tutoring?
I'm a senior in high school with over a 4.0 weighted average, and I'm thinking about doing some tutoring work for money, since no local businesses are hiring and I need to start paying car insurance soon, since I'll be driving. I'm wondering what to charge per session, and how long a session should last. I've figured out that I can tutor any subject for levels K-8, along with HS level Biology and Chemistry. Alternatively, for levels K-6, I'm willing to offer general homework help. I have some experience - I tutored someone who was failing two to four hours per week last year in HS Chemistry, and she ended up passing the course, including her NYS Regents Exam, which many people failed. From what I've seen, tutors around here make anywhere from $10 to $40, at my level of education. Is $10-15 unreasonable for a general homework help session? How does $20 sound for levels 7&8 math, or HS subjects? Is this too much? Too little? Could I make it work?""

Have you ever heard of a Car Insurance doing this?
Have you ever heard of this before: I know a person who has car insurance with Allstate and they claim the following reason for jacking up their prices every 6 months when you pay the bill for the next 6 months. The Reasons from them are: 1-Because since you have allstate and when anyone else that has allstate also in your area has an accident where them and someone else is involved this will make your payment go up. 2-All insurance companies do this also where if anyone not involved in an accident say at home and someone else with the same insurance company as you have, if they have an accident even if your at home when this happens your payments will go up. My Father has had direct for i don't know how long but a long time and every time someone has a wreck that has direct and he is not involved in it he still pays the same amount he did last time before the other direct insurance people have a wreck. Please also provide the name of your insurance company as I want to make a chart of how many people answered and what insurance company they currently have or had. Thank you I'd greatly appreciate the insurance info that's all I would like for the chart not your name.""

Is the presidents plan to get everyone insured but no one covered?
The Affordable Care Act is a pro-insurance-industry plan implemented by a president. You have to closely look at your plans. Know what illnesses you are going to come down with. See what kind of medications you will need. Know all the advanced medical care needed and the facilities needed. Then insure they are in your plan. That is only the easy part. When you sign up. You should daily check to see if you are covered. People are going to emergency rooms thinking they are covered when they are not. Democrat have an answer to out of network medications and doctors. Pay out of pocket. Democrats say it is personal responsibility to know every disease facilities and medications needed for every conceivable disease. Then insure they are in your plan. Democrats have your best interests at heart when they insure your sex life is listed in your medical record. Democrats would never misuse sex or gun information requested in Obama Care by looking in the electronic records. They are safer then the doctor putting them in a file and keeping them in their office. Now they keep it in their office and a database that Obama can access.

Weird health insurance situation?
My hubby had two claims from a sleep study clinic that were marked as Out of network by my insurance. As such, the insurance company cut me a check for the portion of the bill that they are required to pay (instead of paying the clinic directly). I had to cash them immediately or else the checks would be void. Normally, we get a bill from the clinic with our total bill (including what the insurance needed to pay) and we then pay what the insurance wrote us a check for in addition to our portion. Now, the clinic has decided to write off what was marked as out of network. So, I have the money and nowhere to pay it. Is it ethical/legal for me to just keep it? It feels really wrong...""

Who insures a teenage driver when the parents are divorced?
We are getting ready to add my stepson to our auto insurance. He does not have a car yet, but when he does get one it will be in his father's name. His mother as far as I know has no auto insurance. She drives a car that belongs to her parents and I assume they insure it. This is the living situation and what is in place legally at this time. The mother is the primary custodian of the child. However, he resides at our house 85% of the time. My husband has educational gaurdianship so that he can attend school in our district. I have researched this and what I have found is that the parent who has primary custody is the one who adds the child to insurance. Then I also read that the parent with whom the child resides the majority of time carries the child on the insurance. I am just trying to prepare and educate myself before having to deal with the ex-wife. Money is not the issue as the child will be required to work and pay for his own insurance (our house rule). Why do I have to pay extra for changing address with my insurance company?
I recently moved and changed the details on my drivers licence and log book. When I called the insurance company to do the same they said i would need to pay 60 to cover the cost of the change between now and the renewal period (which at the time was approx 6 weeks away). All of this was AFTER they took my previous and new address to confirm my ID. When I asked them why this was as I had paid my entire premium in full last year (so as not to incur direct debit charges) they just repeated themselves. I did not have the 60 and said well I will just stay at the previous address (my ex-boyfriends) until my renewal comes through and I will change address then. However...my renewal has just come through in my NEW address but with postcode where vehicle kept overnight as my OLD address!! What does this actually mean?? surely if I have to make a claim it doesn't matter where the vehicle is kept esp as they have my address and the majority of claims do not happen at your residence!!! I have read the policy back to front and they even added amendments this year to include admin charges and NOWHERE does it mention being charged for change of address. I have literally moved around the corner surely its not just about postcodes or am I being naive??

What are the risks with Co-signing on a car and putting insurance in my name for a bf?
My daughters father needs a new and wants us to get it together. I would be co-signing on the car and the insurance would be in my name. It would mainly be his car, I would only pay $100/month on the insurance. I'm very hesitant about doing this as a) our relationship is rocky b) he has a bad record...many tickets/fines to the point where he could not get approved for insurance c) I dont want to get screwed over. He's pretty upset that im saying I dont want to, and is complaining that he cant rely on me, but I feel im protecting myself and my credit. So what exactly are the risks, and how can I get him to understand why I'm saying no?""

Buying Car - Insurance Question?
I'm buying a Z-28 Camaro, and I have encountered a problem. I was told when I register it (which I have to apparently) that I have to insure it. I plan on leaving the car just setting in my yard. Yes it runs perfectly, but I can't afford gas for it or insurance at the time. 1) Do I legally have to register it 2) How long do I have to register it 3) Does it HAVE to be insured 4) If yes to 3, what's the cheapest insurance I can get and about how much is it. I don't care what it covers. I don't know if the state makes a difference but I live in Michigan. Thanks A Million""
