Jonathan Sims is constantly ill - Martin's tea has both practical and emotional justification. He stocks up on all the lemon and ginger tea that guarantees help with colds but it really just doesn't help. Tim teases him like stay away from meee and Jon threatens to sneeze in his cup noodle. The cold months it's colds, the warm months it's allergies. Man has enough medication on him at all times to kill a horse.

Bad dark joke but I feel like cultural representations of crown prince rudolf and the extreme overemphasis/influence of 1888-1889 in discussions of him are kind of like the internet meme thing with blobfish. Like that's his sad corpse you're parading around and showing to people,,,,,

i know everybody likes to make fun of the dog world by comparing it to the "chill" cat world but like. purebred cat people are not ANY more chill than purebred dog folk and new cat breeds are just as susceptible to damaging inbreeding/low population size and breeding of unhealthy traits than dogs, sometimes i think perhaps more.

I used to give a lot of thought to what things were like for Cy before Rebirth.

I think he abused every substance under the sun in attempt to dull down persistent paranoia and memories, to calm rushing thoughts if only a little...

And food was obviously neglected.

A clear plan and a goal in sigh would help though.

He eventually settled on ice-cream to keep him going with a rare smoke in some overwhelming circumstances (watching smoke roll is better then a cut, I guess).

And yeah, there still would be no skin showing even if tattoos weren't there...

finished reading "tell me I'm worthless," which was an interesting experience. I think there's something really good for you in your soul to be able to understand the genre conventions you're in and the kinds of structures and language and character that can be explored in these genres. I think about how people tend to -- with fiction about marginalisation and/or about people who are marginalised as a blanket whole, regardless of the story -- operate on a checklist of dos and donts, but mainly donts: don't ever tell us a deadname, don't ever use these "problematic" words to describe them/or have them describe themselves in this way, don't ever describe negative emotions or "problematic" emotions, don't let the characters have harmful traits (either towards themselves or others), don't hurt your characters at all actually, don't make your characters politically uncomfortable or "problematically" complicated in their political outlook and/or journey, don't make your characters be assholes ever, certainly don't traumatise your characters, and under no circumstance do you kill your characters!

which of course, this book does praaaactically every one of these things, thank goodness
