I know I am infamously a Phantom hater who literally cheered when I found out it'd finally close. As in literally, I'd been sick with COVID for a week when I heard the closing news, and I got up and danced around. It was the best I'd felt in days.

BUT. I finally found a reason to feel sad that the show is closing (other than feeling bad for cast and crew losing jobs of course):

The monkey. The stupid (affectionate) monkey. I do love that little prop.

I hope he ends up in a good home if they retire him, or that he continues to be used in other productions.

#not tagging for obvious reasons. this post will pop up if you search phantom but like whatever. it's not tagged.#so yeah. the ranking of things I feel bad about when it comes to phantom closing:#1) Thelma Pollard who has done the make-up for nearly the whole run. 2) Pearleta Price who also covered the make-up #3) the stupid (affectionate) monkey music box prop. 4) literally everyone else. cast. crew. musicians. etc.#and then way down the list number infinity is ALW because i am waiting for the day Bad Cinderella closes #so we will finally FINALLY live in a time when he has no shows on broadway. please. let that day come soon.
