Restless Rewatch: The Untamed, Episode 24, first part
(Masterpost) (Other Canary Stuff)
Tumblr media
Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Banquet Proposal
Manspreading Champion Jin Guangshan is trying to pressure Jiang Cheng into marrying Jiang Yanli into the Jin clan.  Because this is the cultivation world, where everyone reflexively agrees with the most powerful man in the room like he's Frank Sinatra and they're the Rat Pack, the whole room starts pressuring Jiang Cheng to agree.
Tumblr media
Then Wei Wuxian comes striding in and suggests the radical idea of asking a woman's opinion about her own marriage. He tries to pressure Jiang Cheng into agreeing with him. Today is Pressure Jiang Cheng Day. Every day for the next several months is going to be Pressure Jiang Cheng Day.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng stands up and agrees that it should be left up to his sister, citing his late father's beliefs so that everyone will know that this unconventional behavior isn't his fault. This is a pickle for him; he knows his sister wants to marry Jin Zixuan, but it's not a good political alliance for the Jiangs right now, which is the opposite of the situation when his parents first made the match. While saying all this he takes the opportunity to get in a dig at Wei Wuxian for meddling.
Jiang Yanli sadly says, thanks for the offer, but the Jiang Clan is just coming back from being massacred, and I have, like, SO much laundry, I can't even. It's not that I don't want to be with you, Jixuan honey; I would just rather scrub blood off of the courtyard.
Tumblr media
Jin Zixuan suddenly realizes that being dumped in front of a bunch of your peers is not as fun when you’re catching instead of pitching.
Clan Leader Yao is completely flummoxed by this whole "let young people decide things" concept and hopes it goes out of fashion soon.
Tumblr media
The only really happy person in the room is Jin Guangyao, who is looking for a scapegoat for his upcoming villainy. Wei Wuxian will be a perfect fit.
(more behind the cut!)
Chillin Like a Villain
Jin Guangyao and Jin Guangshan have a villany-plotting conversation that's mostly as boring as every other villainy-plotting conversation.
Tumblr media
Jin Guangyao starts the ground work for blaming stuff on Wei Wuxian, saying that Wei Wuxian was alone with Xue Yang back when the 4th chunk of Yin Iron went missing. This kind of harks back to that moment when Wei Wuxian searched Xue Yang (not, incidentally, alone) and XY asked if he wasn't worried about what people would say if they heard about it.
Jin Guangshan is pretty ready to think badly of WWX, who just crapped on his marriage plans, so he quickly decides that Wei Wuxian’s Yin Tiger amulet is made out of Xue Yang’s Yin Iron, not that it actually, like, matters where it came from? It’s all the same dang metal.
Back to Lotus Pier
Tumblr media
Then we get an establishing shot of the dock in Yunmeng and the subtitle unhelpfully says QISHAN. Not because the scene is in Qishan, but because there are red Wen banners flying that say 岐山 on them, so the subtitle is for the banner, not for the location. Not only are there Wen banners still flying despite their defeat, there are at least six Wen guards standing guard at the dock. Perhaps there is a teensy continuity error here.
The Yunmeng trio return to Lotus Pier with a group of disciples in tow. Leaving aside the boys' (apparent) stealth trip to the ancestral hall in Episode 20, this is their official return to their home and the seat of their clan, having survived the Wen clan's attempt to exterminate them.
Tumblr media
They are battered, bloodied, but not broken and one of them is also broken. But still persevering. I get choked up at this scene every time. Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian would be pleased with all three of them. Jiang Yanli has supported both of them through all the turmoil, giving them an emotional home even while they were homeless. Jiang Cheng has done the impossible, even more than he himself realizes. And Wei Wuxian has acted as a faithful servant, sacrificing a precious part of himself to save his clan leader.
Tumblr media
The place is a mess, with the evidence of a final battle against the Wens all over the place. As they look around Wei Wuxian thinks back on one of the many times that Jiang Fengmian paid attention to him instead of to Jiang Cheng, and smiles affectionately.   Wei Wuxian is consistently able to remember the good things and smile about them, even when those memories are overlaid by endless trauma.
The three of them look at the Wen symbol on the roof line and the boys get identically angry...
Tumblr media
...starting with the teeth of anger...
Tumblr media
...followed by the fist of anger.
It's a powerful moment; they still do have an awful lot in common, despite everything. Jiang Cheng uses his mother’s weapon to smash the Wen symbol and reclaim his home.
Tumblr media
Jiang Yanli:  The fuck!? Are you trying to slice my face off?
Back to Gusu
Next we get a nice fly-through of the Jingshi, where Lan Wangji is sitting in the side room playing guqin.  In later years he will move the guqin to the living room, while this room gains a wine-drinking table.
Tumblr media
The Lan clan do love their knick-knacks, and this room features several. There's a teapot suspended from a chain over a brazier, with a tied-up fish sculpture for a counterweight, which is definitely not an indication of any future kinks. The brazier is surrounded by Zen sand with some surprisingly untranquil lines raked into it.
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen has dropped by to tell Lan Wangji that the disciples are gossiping about him, saying he’s been checking out books from the library and practicing music. Seriously? The Lans are a sect that focuses on musical cultivation. Practicing music, verrry suspicious. Also, gossip is forbidden, but sure, check up on him.
Tumblr media
In response, Lan Wangji jumps right to "I want to enter the forbidden chamber of the Library"  Lan Xichen asks him why, and he says he wants more music scores.  Lan Xichen, who knows about the secret murder music book, isn't delighted with that answer.  Just then, Lan Qiren summons them, so they table the conversation to go see him.
Tumblr media
Lan Qiren talks about the battle they just went through, and says "I've heard about Wei Ying."  Everybody makes significant faces without clarifying what LQR actually heard about Wei Ying. Lan Qiren then philosophizes about how war is hell, particularly for idioms about eggs and nests. They need to go clean up the leftover resentful energy, but he's sending Lan Xichen on his own, while Lan Wangji gets to stay home and repair/rewrite all of the Lan rules.
Lan Qiren says a bunch of stuff to Lan Wangji about rules, being super hinty without actually coming to the point. He refuses to let Lan Wangji speak or ask questions, while he’s doling out punishment for, basically, thought crime. He wants LWJ to reject Wei Wuxian but he wants him to do it without being directly told.
Tumblr media
To make sure Lan Wangji is extra frustrated, he snarkily refuses to give him permission to read the forbidden books, asking him if he’s already read all of the books in the regular library. Surprisingly, he hasn’t yet; I guess he was busy winning a war while you were in a coma, jerkface.
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen is super on edge during this conversation--scared, even. He's trying to keep the peace, trying to keep Lan Wangji out of trouble, and avoid a confrontation. Lan Wangji is increasingly uninterested in peace, but he follows his brother's unspoken commands, and shuts up.
Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen both really fail as teachers here. Lan Wangji believes that resentful energy is bad. He believes this VERY STRONGLY.  He broke up with his boyfriend for a while because of it. They are punishing him for having doubts, and they’re not giving him any opportunity to talk through those doubts with them. I say “they” because Lan Qiren is the one giving the punishment, but Lan Xichen is silently assenting, and making sure Lan Wangji doesn’t argue.
Tumblr media
As they leave, Lan Qiren stops them to ask Lan Wangji if he understands why he's grounded, and Lan Wangji just looks at him without answering, which would be counted as sass when I was growing up.
Tumblr media
He face says he’s appropriately chagrined, but he’s not. Before the end of this episode, he's going to directly disobey Lan Qiren, and he’s going to go on disobeying him in the future, over and over again.
Tumblr media
Later, when Lan Wangji is alone with the pristine, definitely not in need of repair, rule book, he seems genuinely chagrined. He loves these rules, and has depended on them; that’s why he’s been a model disciple for so long, not because he fears his uncle’s punishments.
Tumblr media
But now he also loves Wei Wuxian. So some of these rules will have to be broken.
Clan Leader Jiang
The Jiang Clan are having the ceremony to install Jiang Cheng as leader.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is sitting alone, away from all of the other disciples, watching the proceedings rather than participating. His placement in the ceremony is very strange for a head disciple.
Tumblr media
But it’s perfect for a ghost.
Later, Jiang Cheng is practicing his "yelly boss" leadership style, and being extra grumpy because Wei Wuxian is slacking off all the time. Jiang Yanli is having trouble deciding if she should be more worried about the brother with the drinking problem or the brother with the anger problem.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng is miserable and feels completely unsure of himself but he's plowing the fuck ahead.
You might put your love and trust on the line It's risky, people love to tear that down Let 'em try Do it anyway Risk it anyway And if you're paralyzed by a voice in your head It's the standing still that should be scaring you instead Go on and Do it anyway Do it anyway
Help Me to Help You
Wei Wuxian is hanging out in a tavern window, being a thirst trap and hitting on passing Lans.
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen joins him for a drink and a lecture. Things start off fairly well, with Wei Wuxian being impressed with his ability to drink wine, and attempting his usual flirt-tease-charm routine, bragging about smuggling wine into Cloud Recesses.
Tumblr media
Where Lan Wangji would be adorably flustered and hostile/sexy in responding to that, Lan Xichen just shuts him down with a look, and Wei Wuxian suddenly realizes that he's talking to an adult clan leader who isn't here for his shit, and is a lot more worldy than Lan Wangji is.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian knocks it off and apologizes. Then he talks fondly about Lan Wangji, saying he wants to come visit him, and daydreams cutely about dominating him  supervising his rule-copying work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LXC says that he should come listen to new music that LWJ has composed, and the tone of the conversation changes completely. Wei Wuxian is on his guard, and he's getting ready to throw down.  He asks if LXC came to Yunmeng specifically to hassle him, and LXC...kinda says no?
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian smiles sweetly while he asks if everyone in the Lan Clan is a meddler.
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen has never encountered the nasty version of Wei Wuxian before, but he's a grown up, and he's very, very hard to provoke, unlike his brother. He cuts to the chase and says he's got something to say, whether WWX listens or not.
He says Wei Wuxian shouldn't be self-centered because the people he cares about are affected by his choices. This gets through to him, for a second. But then LXC offers to help him go back to sword cultivation, and Wei Wuxian is done listening.
Tumblr media
He tells Lan Xichen he doesn't want to go back to sword work, and LXC is stunned into silence for a moment as Wei Wuxian takes his wine and starts to walk away.  Lan Xichen makes a last ditch attempt to warn him about the dangers of the yin tiger amulet, and WWX says he knows, but he wants to try to master it anyway. Then he leaves with a rude little wave, and no bow.
Tumblr media
This whole conversation seems like a disaster but Wei Wuxian does, in fact, remember Lan Xichen’s words, the next time he meets up with Lan Wangji.

Season One
Ambush
How did Dooku know about the meeting with Katoonko? Did a certain Chancellor inform him?
 Jedi Grandpa!
"See? See? Size matters not!" You know, it makes you wonder how many times Yoda got underestimated because he's tiny. Also, the giggle afterwards.
The resigned clones. Aw.
I will never stop finding it amusing how Yoda turns into a tiny bouncy zip ball of death in a fight. Trust Yoda to weaponize being a nuisance. Also, a beautiful example of deadly dodging
Aw. The part where Yoda talks with the clones about how different they are in the Force.
Also aw, Yoda and the birbs after the fight.
Also, also, Yoda is actually quite friendly to Ventress. When he's talking to Dooku there is something of an edge (not much, though), but with Ventress he's using the Trickster Mentor Voice. Maybe you should have surrendered, Asajj?
Clone tattoo count: 2
Rising Malevolence
Anakin, since when are you asking the Council for permission first? Are you secretly jealous of Plo Koon, or something?
Anakin telling Ahsoka to behave is funny, because it's Anakin.
You know, Anakin, you seem to be the only Jedi upset about Ahsoka speaking up. And don't think I didn't notice you Palpatine, making a pointed comment about how bold Ahsoka is.
Also, interesting contrast between Anakin insisting on finding the weapon being more important to cut to Plo Koon emphatically saying he values clone lives more than finding the weapon. Of course, it turns out that he meant to go look for surviviors ten seconds later, but nevertheless, interesting contrast.
Of course, Anakin decides to reinterpret orders. It's what Anakin does. And yes, he was always going to look for surviviors, but has it occured to you, Anakin, that you could have told Ahsoka that and not put her through all the worry? That was kinda shitty of you.
And here we have Plo Koon performing Peak Jedi Bullshit, by going on a walk on an escape pod in space to fight battle droids. And then doing a Fastball Special with a clone.
So, we have Yoda, Mace and Obi-Wan in camp "geater scope" and Anakin, Plo and Ahsoka in camp "save lives". It's interesting to note that it's one of the situations where both sides have a point. Saving the lives of the clones and Plo Koon is important! It's the right thing to do! But at the same time, Anakin and Ahsoka have a vital mission that they've taken a detour from.
Palpatine is doing subtle shit stirring, of course, by hinting most hintingly that Anakin's decision might be a costly mistake. And then immediately calling Anakin to tell them the Council is "furious" when they're actually concerned and kinda annoyed.
Anakin's reply that he came to save Plo Koon and no mention of clones is pretty telling.
Aw, Ahsoka sensing Plo Koon.
"We're clones, we're meant to be expendable." "Not. To. Me." <3
So, obvs, Anakin doesn't look completely great in this episode - but there's also the point that Ahsoka is his first child I mean padawan, so he was bound to make mistakes. He certainly teaches her about persistence and determination, but he also fails to trust her and reassure her. Equally, with the clones, they may not be his main concern when looking for survivors - he wants to find Plo Koon, because he's Ahsoka's friend first, but he also shows concern for them and care once they're on the ship.
Shadow of Malevolence
And now it's time for Anakin Has a Reckless Plan. Ahsoka and Plo caution him against it, but Anakin is certain it will work out.
Cute detail: Plo and Ahsoka note that Anakin inspires great loyalty in his clones by leading by example.
It's time for The Villains Will be Doing a War Crime!
Hello there Space Manta Rays! You look like you have a lot of teeth!
Oh Anakin. It's good that you eventually listened to Ahsoka and Plo Koon and did change your plan for one where it's not just you as the last man standing, because the clones aren't space wizards like you.
So, it's probably a good moment to note that Anakin's plan wasn't The Worst or anything like that--it does work with the changes suggested by Ahsoka and Plo Koon, and it might have worked even better if Anakin had listened to them from the start.
It's also an interesting point to see how being such a good pilot and so strong in the Force affects Anakin's judgement--it just doesn't occur to him that his baseline isn't the same as the Clones. It's not malicious, and it is understandable. It's a common human bias to think of the things that come easily to you as easy for everyone, when it doesn't have to be the case.
Destroy Malevolence:
Hello Padme!
I see Palpatine sent her right into the embrace of General Grevious. Damn it, Palpatine.
You know how people say that Luke is gentle and so on like Padme, and Leia is brash and aggressive like Anakin. Ahahahaha. Ahahahahaha. You know, the Padme who yelled at Anakin to continue shooting the Malevolence because she won't be a hostage? The Padme who rigged her ship to blow up and nearly took out Grevious?
Plo Koon once again points out Anakin is taking terrible risks. Obi-Wan apparently decided it's time for him to join the party. There was no mention of him taking terrible risks.
Padme and Anakin are being subtle. They're just missing a "we're in love" flag.
Hinty hint, huh, Obi-Wan?
Cutting off the transmission you don't like, Grevious?
And boom goes Malevolence
Rookies
Clone tattoo count: 2
Did the sergeant dye his hair and eyebrows to look like he's going grey?
Great acting there, infiltrator droids. You tried.
A+ acting there, Rex.
Hevy, no!
Downfall of a Droid
Anakin is Having a Reckless and Ahsoka Is the Voice of Reason once more.
Ah, this is the Anakin and Attachment Are a Problem episode. And also Obi-Wan could stand to be nicer about droids.
And here's R3, to whom Anakin will be mean, because he's not R2, but it's OK, because R3 is secretly a spy.
How to disguise a Jedi: put a poncho over your Jedi clothes. Don't hide anything else.
OK, Anakin isn't particularly mean to R3. And he does make himself look particularly incompetent.
I notice that both Grevious and the Trandshan sleezy droid guy have An Accent, unlike our heroes.
R2 is making a valiant escape.
R3 isn't even trying to pretend he doesn't want Anakin caught or dead, is he?
Not my favourite episode.
Duel of the Droids
Really Ahsoka. Don't be mean to Rex and have him carry around a droid.
And here we have Anakin and Ahsoka demonstrating that Jedi don't need parachutes.
R3 REALLY isn't bothering pretending not to be a spy. Like really really.
Ahsoka vs Grevious is going quite well for Ahsoka, so far.
Well, it was going well.
R2 defeats his Evil Counterpart. The day is saved! Anakin didn't learn his important lesson.
Bombad Jedi
Palpatine uses Concerned Grandpa Facade on Padme. It's not very effective.
Hello Jar-Jar. You're like Jaskier on steroids. Someone just needs to let you compose catchy earworms.
So, everyone looks reasonable for looking Jar-Jar behind, but this is one of this occassions when it turns out he's vital.
Oops. Padme gets to hear that the Republic isn't helping very much. (Although trusting the Trade Federation isn't exactly smart on Ono's part...)
Whose cloak could this be, hmmm?
Padme is sure having fun rescuing herself and pretending a Jedi is saving her there.
Yep, trusting the Trade Federation is a bad idea.
And this is why giant bug friends are good friends.
And we end on a Very Important Lesson.
Cloak of Darkness
Interesting little detail: Ahsoka is sent out with Luminara, without Anakin. This seems to be situation as normal, too, so Padawans were not expected to learn and work only with their Masters.
Famous last words, Ahsoka
And I think we see Anakin's influence on Ahsoka, when she threatens Gunray. Luminara shuts that down pretty quickly. It's also interesting that Ahsoka charges in despite Luminara having everything perfectly in grip.
On consideration, this might be one of the reasons why Jedi would send padawans to do stuff with other Jedi. It gives them the opportunity to notice anything of concern that the padawan's Master missed or messed up.
Hello Asajj. You're doing pretty well in this episode.
Poor Luminara. Ahsoka's inner Leroy Jenkins was very strong that day.
Luminara uses Taunt on Asajj. It's super effective.
You know, it's... interesting that the person who says that sometimes soldiers should disobey orders turns out to be a traitor. Not sure if like, given a. what happens later in SW and b. who exactly used the "I was just obeying orders" in RL.
And our traitor gets reward by a stabbing.
Luminara praises Ahsoka. Aw.
Lair of Grevious
Hello there, Kit!
 Aww, Nahdar and Kit.
Clone Trooper: I'll blast the door! Nahdar: I will stab the door! Kit: Guys, let's just open it?
A statue of a warrior holding a head. All good and not creepy at all.
Hello there Grevious's masks. That is also good and not creepy.
And we have one of the earliest examples of the war taking toll on the Jedi with Nahdar's reaction to loss. He swears revange and says that the strong win, both of which aren't very Jedi sentiments, though they are understandable reactions. Which eventually gets Nahdar killed, since he decides to fight Grevious on his own.
And you know, it sucks that Kit and Nahdar don’t actually have a moment for Kit to be more supportive about this.

Darlings
I woke up with this series of thoughts today:
I was thinking about my TDP blooper reel post, about the part where Aaravos gets his horns stuck in his cloak hood.
That made me think about elves and their horns and how at some point, their parents probably get them their first cloaks and they have to teach the little elves, “Tip your face up. Face first, so you don’t get tangled!” as they ease their cloaks over their heads and shrug them forward onto their shoulders. “Ta da, you did it!”
And then I imagined elven parents doing quick sketches of their little toddlers as they attempted their first cloak tryouts, like they use sketch books instead of cameras to capture their favorite moments of their children’s lives. So like any doting parent, they draw their kids doing the most ordinary of things. Figuring out how combs work. Climbing a tree. Belly flopping into a swimming hole. Their first Moonberry Festival, with their face all smeared with juice. And they just keep these sketchbooks, and flip back through them over the years, showing off their sketches to friends, and the kids get more and more embarrassed as they grow older, until one day they get themselves their own sketchbooks and start drawing their own cute little elven kiddos.
And then, I realized that the sketches in the credits of every TDP episode are literally this. The artists are sketching out the lives of their characters. And not only are they including things that have definitely happened, and their little darlings’ favorite objects and big moments, but they’re also outlining (literally) their hopes and dreams for their kids’ futures with the hinty sketches that haven’t happened yet.
I’m so soft for the TDP creators treating their characters like beloved little kids!

Ash likes who??
Okay first of all, I’ll try not to make this too opinionated and second of all, let me makes this clear. Ash is ten. Ash is DENSE. Ash does not give a shit about love or romance.
Now let’s get into the shipping. Pokeshipping. Yeeeaaaaah no. One sided. Misty is definitely crushing on Ash but remember my first point? Ash is dense. He doesn’t even see it and ideally he probably isn’t interested enough to question why she behaves the way she does. Yes, she was his first FRIEND which explains why he seems to react the way some mistake for romantic attraction. Ash canonically holds his friends near and dear to his heart. Friends. As to how it’d play out, I don’t really think so. Sure it could work but let’s remember that Misty is a lot like a mom. Yelling at him about how childish he is (well scolding), nurturing at times. Ideally, I think he’d move away from something like that hence why he challenges her, makes jokes, etc— friendzoning. No thank you mom.
Serena. Amourshipping. Hooooo boy I get so IRRITATED when people start using the excuse ‘she’s his childhood friend’ or ‘she loves him’ or ‘they kissed!’ No, Serena is the one who initiates all of this. It is one-sided and she’s going through white-knight syndrome (as other girls in harems tend to go through). Ideally, if she stayed with him a lot longer, I could see her awakening romantic feelings within him because she’s started it off but as of now, there’s nothing. I think his brain shut down for a moment when she kissed him. He knew it was meaningful as it’s clear that now he knows she likes him but I don’t think he actually felt any way about it. More like ‘Wow...y...you like me...’ aaaand that’s it. As for how they’d be together, I think Serena is too feminine. She’s more like the way you’d put a random dude next to a woman and call it a couple. He’s a total boy. She’s a total girl. Ash...doesn’t really care about girl stuff nor does he understand it.
Now these are the most popular ships. The others aren’t as popular but they’re cute so that’s fine, people don’t dispute about them as fiercely as they do about the two above. Just be clarify, I’ll be brief with how Compatible I feel the rest are. (Saving the best til last) Dawn is a cool friend! She’s determined like he is and hyper too. Upbeat. Someone he can be lively with. Same with Iris however she is a LOT more like him. So much so that they clash often. (I didn’t forget someone did I?)
Finally, mah main girl. May. She was the pokegirl that was around when I started watching and I always took a liking to her. Why? Because she’s chill and a diamond in the rough. She is probably the most developed of the pokegirls, going through a journey to find herself and stand tall on her own (as well as taking care of Max). The girl next door. I agree that her and Ash have a student-Teacher relationship completely and that he feels the need to protect and take care of her— this however isn’t romantic and I know it. The reason why I like advanceshipping so much is because both Ash and May are themselves and kinda similar but not enough to clash. They’re clearly very compatible as best friends and Ash can surely chill with her. She’s a girl but also that pal you can hang with (like me). There clearly isn’t any romance brewing but they’re comfortable with each other and it’s just so satisfying, so much so that their development from now into something romantic would look a lot more natural. If they stayed together, I feel like they’d get closer in a completely calm fashion. And personally, I think a romance that blooms so calmly is something Ash could really settle into. It’d give him time to confirm whatever he’d be feeling and the density would slowly lift. Smoothly. Gently. And I think that would just be adorable.
(Bonus: Pokemon movie 9 (my all time favourite) was doing some hinty stuff. With the luvdisc and manaphy seeing May as it’s Mom and perhaps Ash as it’s Dad. King of the sea, Prince of the sea’s mom. Oh boy they hinted. Nothing happened. Nothing brewed. But maybe the hinting was there to show the potential. Ash and May are friends and they’re very special to each other plus all my previous points that some ships don’t have in my opinion.)
To finish, I don’t think May likes Drew. She probably turned to feeling that way because as a girl, if a dude brings you flowers, you’re flattered and start thinking along the romantic lines. Drew is clearly flirting but my God he does it wrong. Gives her flowers and acts all nice sometimes when normally he’s just an ass. If they were in a relationship, I feel like his pride and arrogance would mess it up and May deserves better. Harley is....hhh I still haven’t forgiven him for what he did. But no. Just no. Ideally and canonically, my girl is good standing on her own. She’s got style, grace and she’ll punch you in the face~ Ash or not, I just want her to be happy and shine.

tale as old as time
y’all wanna talk about how jaime is still alive for a minute?
we know jb is based on beauty and the beast. (i personally have always assumed George would lean away from the disney version in writing this. there are no talking housewares lol)
i was just thinking about how literal he is about it at some points though? and also how this could point to a death fakeout with an ending Nik actually does like:
Spoiled “prince”
Cursed with disfigurement (in this case it’s interesting that his “curse” happens near the time he meets Brienne/beauty , not Cersei/evil witch)
She literally holds him captive
Brienne hates roses
He takes care of her with his wealth
all that good 💗growing to love each other💗 content
in the end, the Beauty has to leave and they part miserable and misunderstood, and while they are apart:
he fights (Euron = Gaston? lmao) for his life, (all but) DIES and she returns, his curse lifts, he’s fine, they make up
HEA 🎉
This all lines up with the Jaime = AA theory.
It has been posited that he may grow his hand back (see: his dreams in the books, and possibly foreshadowed during TBTWP “I don’t want things growing on me”)
i also have a lot of thoughts about how this season actually did set up 8x06, mostly about TBTWP scene and how their lines sound SO hinty to me
Nik and the “he saved the world” thing
Nik was paid for 8x06
Nik saying “there’s a lot of fire in Jaime’s story” in an interview i will track down
Nik’s mysterious silence for two weeks now
they’re still idiot writers but i think things might make more sense after the Big Surprise Ending 🙄
