Dimentio is the character of all time to me. I see a design that is entirely covered head to toe in fabric with a mask on top and I go aha you want complete control over how other people perceive you!

I don't think he'd be all that familiar with the concept of being trans, and that it'd be unlikely that anyone would bring it up to him directly during the events of the game. This is what convoluted post-canon AUs that I have yet to meaningfully illustrate are for!

He is so focused on how he appears to other people that he'd fail to recognize what he wants from it (beyond just having that control) even if it would be extremely obvious if he were to ever verbalize it.

I think (usually) I'm pretty good at staying true to the characters and not making them too ooc (and I know when it's ooc, okay, I have one wip rn where I just don't give a fuck, I'm writing it anyway lol), and I can get into their heads pretty well. Also I think I'm good at the cute fluffy stuff lol idk

What are your writing weaknesses?

there's probably a lot lol - rn the one that comes to mind is descriptions probably, which is why writing fanfic where we have established characters and settings is so much easier than og stuff haha

I don't mind it but I don't do it a lot aside from a pet name here and there bc I just don't wanna get anything wrong lol

So uh… I might end up with a live action f/o…

#okay so I was watching clips of this one show #mostly because I was curious #and then afterwards I went to listen to some music and caught myself daydreaming about the one character #and I panicked #I don’t know if this character will become a thing but uhhhhh… im having conflicted feelings #just… well… i being vague because it’s embarrassing #like pretty much all of my f/os are animated and I never had a live action f/o before #and the character is silly and over the top but……..#*groans*#and I don’t think it’s like a celebrity crush type of thing #like I usually separate a animated character from the VA but to see the actor is… hmmm #and I’m just sitting here kinda wanting to watch this show even though it’s very cheesy #just to learn more about this character #like I already made sketches of the character and I’m MAD #god I hope this makes sense because I’m struggling trying to explain this #💬 chy chatter 💬

Some people have been saying that live action Sanji feels a little bit more soft and endearing than manga Sanji, but they can't pinpoint why because he does still feel like Sanji. Some people think it's just Taz's acting, and he does do a great job, but I don't think that's the main reason. Others think his flirting has been turned down a bit, but honestly it hasn't really? He still openly flirts with Nami when they first meet, and he still says things like "women are a mystery to be unraveled" and other goofy simp stuff. And his kindness like being willing to feed the hungry no matter what is obviously something that was always there (it's why Luffy chose him in the first place. Hell, in the manga he chooses Sanji as his cook before he ever actually tastes Sanji's cooking, simply because he sees Sanji feed Gin and realizes what kind of person Sanji is).

But there is a difference! And I've figured out what it is, because there IS one manga/anime Sanji trait that wasn't present in live action Sanji: his hatred of men.

Live action Sanji isn't a misandrist anymore 😳

#One piece #OPLA #OPLA spoilers #Obviously it was played for jokes he wasn't like actively cruel towards men and was kind to them too #Like feeding them if they were starving #And he obviously cared about his friends #He was misandrist is a silly cartoonish way #But it did highlight the way he treated women differently from men and made his flirting and simping come across as way more over the top #In comparison to how he behaved towards women #And I think it was a smart choice because English speaking audiences are especially sensitive to that sort of thing these days #I think the only other thing that gives him a slightly different vibe #is live action can't give him heart eyes or have him do the wiggling stuff lol #So his simping feels toned down even though technically he simps a similar amount as in canon #I do think it's funny how some fans like him better in live action because of this on tumblr dot com aka the OG man hating website #Like fans who are caught up understand WHY he's hostile towards men compared to women in canon (see: WCI)#but I don't mind them leaving it out in the live action #And it isn't like an integral key to who he is as a person/character #People who were already Sanji fans knew he was their problematic little meow meow #But it's nice that live action can showcase his kind and soft side a bit more #Like that stuff is already there in canon but he's a little more tsundere about it y'know? Lol

It’s always so funny to me when someone can’t tell the difference between an actor who’s over the top and an actor who is doing an intentionally over the top performance. The former can be super aggravating, I get it—but the latter can be so goddamn effective. Especially when you know the actor already, know they’re fully capable of giving normal human facial expressions and chill line deliveries. And they’re out here doing The Absolute Most all of a sudden? It’s for a reason, dude. It’s almost always for a reason. And once you can see past the camp on the surface, it’s so much fun digging in to what emotions the character is actually hiding.

#this is mainly about servant (and to a lesser degree YJ)#like Ambrose in servant is (pardon me) serving SUCH a chaotic performance #but having known her for decades I know full well that’s on purpose #Dorothy is over the top because she HAS to be. because she’s built walls so high around her own grief that the denial comes out in Crazy #and she fully thinks she’s the only one paying attention. the only sane one in the room.#you get glimpses of her being ‘normal’ in flashbacks #still a little Much. still a product of wealth and expectation. detached from reality to a degree.#but the character she becomes after the tragedy is. A Character.#it’s not the woman she was before. she bricked that woman up. she’s taken her performance from television and made a baby blanket out of it #it’s so. so intentional.#and you sort of get a similar thing going with Hewson in early eps of YJ #totally different starting block. Van doesn’t start out traumatized. but she does start out Big #she’s loud she’s silly she’s being intentionally wacky to get laughs out of people #and some of it comes off a little cringe. because it’s a kid playing a role #this is how you like me. I’m gay. I’m butch. I’m hiding.#if I’m a jester you’ll see what I want you to and nothing more. that’s the plan. it’s working. don’t look at the goalie.#not as a person.#but as the show goes on (or as she’s spending time with taissa) she slows down some. quiets. she’s snarkier. holding tension differently.#Hewson starts the performance at an 11 so they can really delve into who Van becomes when the mask is off #when there’s no point in playing the class clown #when it’s like. ah yeah. here’s the kid who grew up too fast.#here’s the kid who’s scared to death. and angry. and willing to fight to live.#it’s not an overacting thing. it’s VAN overacting to keep her secrets #watch the face so you miss what the hands are doing #actors man. actors are fucking cool. storytelling is fucking cool.#deconstructing the illusion is my favorite thing #(anyway still watching servant and it’s still really. Something Else.)

So glad new people are enjoying OPLA and loving Shanks and Peter but I'm also mentally here:

#opla shanks really comes across as the chill and mature mentor #and i very much write shanks (or try to) as capable of being both a good/profound mentor as well as a silly loser man #the shanks and mihawk scene was so good imo since it shows the alcoholic tendencies and inability to take things too seriously #luckily it only takes one chapter to realize shanks is an idiot loser man #but i do wish he were sillier with luffy #i think if shanks was super mature that luffy would shape into a totally different character #anyway no disrespect to peter i still think he did a wonderful job #i feel this is more on how shanks was written #i think they took out some of the more cartoon-y sillyness and shanks is pretty over the top #OOC.

yeah i mostly agree. it has it's place, and i don't think it should be wiped out completely or anything but more games should strive for stylizing their graphics and art direction over fidelity

i think ive said this before but sometimes liveplay fandoms need to take a step back and remember that sometimes things that happen in the moment and get brushed off are just that and don't need to be read into and sometimes it really is just a moment of friends at a table doing a silly bit
