I finally had a chance to listen to the Gleetastic FanFiction episode of the "And That's What You Really Missed" podcast featuring the lovely @spaceorphan18. I have thoughts and criticisms so under the cut we go.
First, I'd like to give a huge thank you to Pamela for representing us so well, especially those of us who consider ourselves OG fans and writers. Thank you for bringing a mature, non-embarrassed voice to the conversation.
Which brings me to my other thoughts. Grrrr....
So, the first woman, Brie the counselor, was fine. She brought an interesting perspective to the conversation and provided a mental health perspective and validity for fan fiction, which I really appreciate.
That brings us to Allison and my issues with Jenna.
One of the things that consistently irks me about Jenna is what I perceive to be her barely contained contempt for Glee fans. She's quite the contradiction. She loves her cast mates and realizes she was blessed and lucky to be a part of the show, but at the same time looks down on the fans of the show because the show was so wild and crazy and didn't make sense so why would anyone like it? What's wrong with these people? I always feel like she thinks people who enjoyed Glee are less than. She's cool. We're not. But at the same time thank God for the fans because we made her career and paychecks from the show possible.
Ugh.
The same applies to her view of fanfic. Fanfic is a part of the fandom ecosystem, and again, thank God for the fans who help her get paid. But also, "Ew. Who are these weird little nerds writing stories?" Yuck.
I'm so glad Pamela stated, "Fanfic is not for you." THANK YOU! But also, Jenna needs to get over herself.
I'm probably rambling at this point, but Jenna's attitude has been bothering me for a while. Despite her platitudes, I feel she has little appreciation of the fans and thinks she's better. On another note, I've also decided she's not very intellectually smart but that's for another time.
Which brings me to Allison.
Please don't publicly go on a show to represent and talk about something you're embarrassed about. It does a disservice to those you're representing and you end up sounding like a giggling ass.
I'll stop here.

On this day twelve years ago, on her way to a pathetically arranged Finchel wedding, Quinn Fabray was hit by a modestly sized truck but, thanks to her pre-sex prayers and her membership in the chastity club, she emerged from it without any injuries, cuts or dislocated limbs but only in a wheelchair that she got rid of in about ten business days, arousing the ire of many people.
Mr. and Mr. Berry are said to have arranged the incident, but with the help of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior the misdeed was foiled.
Lets pray.

Thoughts on this week’s podcast??
I assume you mean Kevin and Jenna's podcast?
I decided to listen to it (on high speed as I always do!) just to see if I could figure out what you might have wanted an opinion on...
(at some point I'll catch the older episodes)
Unless I completely blacked out - I think the thing that make me just sigh more than anything is the fact that they didn't go over, at all, As If We Never Said Goodbye. And... I kind of wonder if they just skipped over it entirely, because they've said they've fast fowarded through things in the past.
I mean, at least they had nice things to say about Somewhere Only We Know - and acknowledged how good Chris is at acting.
But I mean - it's clear that A) They are a bit salty, in general, that Artie and Tina don't have a lot to do and B) that they really put no effort into doing the recaps.
And I mean - that's their choice. It doesn't make it something that I particularly want to listen to, but I'm also not going to fault them for kind of lamenting that they really didn't have a whole lot to do.
But I can roll my eyes the fact that as recap podcasters - they don't do a very good job.
One fun thing, though, about ten minutes in they list what everyone said they'd personally put on their shirts. Chris said 'high pitched'.
(Also - as an aside, I have a lot of thoughts about how I think one reason Kevin might be doing this is to revisit his relationship with Naya -- I think they seemed to be very close, and I think this is a way he can feel close to her again. Sorry I gotta get going to work so no time to elaborate on that...)

Here is my recap of the second episode of the And That's What You Really Missed podcast.
Justin Timberlake too busy to be Mr. Shue.
Jane Lynch like character kept rolling around as a character.
Casting room was super stereotypical...men in gray suits with note pads.
Ryan would try to talk first.
Ryan first met Lea while he was working with Johnathan Groff on Pretty Handsome. Lamented that she couldn't get an audition on a CW show.
Lea was always the frontrunner for Rachel and it kind of was written for her.
Ryan had worked with Amber before as well.
Let it be Kevin. Running joke between Kevin and Ryan.
Whitney Houston agreed to play the part Eve played in season 1.
Ryan tried to create roles for Jennifer Lopez and Anne Hathaway.
Ryan has gotten death threats because of the Turkey Lurkey Time song.
Ryan's one regret is not doing a Taylor Swift tribute episode.
The Michael shoot was the worst shoot. It was long and hard.
Jenna was told to take a vacation and that was why she wasn't on the Michael episode. She needed it for her mental health.
The thing that Ryan loves the most in his life is creating a world and entering into it.
He turned his childhood bedroom into Studio 54. When Grace Kelly died he wanted to paint his room the color of her eyes. It was a way to escape his pain as a tortured picked on gay kid.
Creating television shows lets him create a whole world.
Glee needed to be poppy and bright.
Ryan has really bad OCD.
He will stay up until 2 am researching different patterns and colors.
Working on something about Truman Capote.
Glee was the start of Ryan's funko pop doll phase.
Each character has their own likes and dislikes when it comes to how they look and what they wear.
Ryan has very specific rules when he creates things.
Tina was shy but secretly tough and her clothes were like armor.
Sue was the best role ever because she always got to be comfortable wearing a tracksuit
Glee was the island of misfit toys.
There were 5 different versions of Don't Stop from the first episode.
No one wanted to do Don't Stop because it had just been done on the Sopranos. Ryan wouldn't take no for an answer because the song had been important to him as a kid.
Drama club was Ryan's safe space.
Everybody knows what it is like to be misunderstood, unseen, and bullied.
Vitamin D came about because Ryan would get a boost of energy whenever he took a Claritn D for allergies.
Everyone was pushed to challenge themselves.
Lean in to the good times.
Glee is a love letter to musical artists and misfits in high school.
The thing I am embarrassed about myself is the thing I should be celebrating.
Re-examine glee as a brand. Should we do a reboot or a musical? Ryan wants to do it in a positive way.
The cast got to feel appreciated and like they belonged for the first time.
Everyone in show business is there because they feel unloved.
The cast was given the option to not be in The Quarterback.
They did it for Cory. They hoped they would find some closure.
Looking back Ryan would never have done it now. It was too soon. It was too raw and emotional.
When Cory passed they had two choices..do they cancel the show or go on.
There is no right answer.
How do you address what happened? Do you pretend it didn't happen? Does the character die off camera?
Ryan ultimately decided to pay tribute to Cory and Finn.
Ryan helped Cory with an intervention. Cory visited Ryan on the set of The Normal Heart. He came to fire island and spent time with Ryan. A few days later Cory died.
Ryan asked for a grief counselor on set. No one talked to the grief counselor.
Ryan watched the episode once, edited it, and never looked at it again.
No one was ready to talk about it. Everyone was very close and protective of each other. At one point Kevin just got out of the wheelchair and walked off the set and lost it.
Cast had to juggle managing a brand and job with losing their friend.
If this happened now Ryan would have done things differently and would have had everyone take a year off.
Part of the reason they kept going was for the crew.
Did the best with what they could.
Kevin blocked it out of his memory.
Talked to everybody to see if they wanted to sing a song or what they wanted to do.
If glee was being made today Ryan would have taken a break and maybe not come back.
No one wants to touch the show out of respect for Naya and Cory.
Ryan tried to be a leader. Everyone wanted to be together and it just made sense to go to work and be together.
Ryan hated the idea of the students graduating and moving some of them to New York. The show maybe should have ended with graduation.
Ryan wouldn't change anything but he does have regrets. Wished that he had more meetings with the cast to see where everyone was at and to just check in with everyone.
Ryan learned a lot from Glee.
Ryan wants to come back to talk about other episodes.
Amber turned Ryan on to Adele. Kevin told Ryan about Lady Gaga.
Never let anyone do a podcast like this but Kevin and Jenna because he trusts them.
The podcast will start with them going through the narrative of the episodes and then talking about the crazy tiktok rumors.
They want to bring on some of the artists covered on glee and talk to them.
Ryan wants to a true/false segment. Also a segment of we did this right/we really fucked this up.
Next week will be the recap of the pilot.

I just listened to the latest episode of and that’s what you missed on Glee. It was the second part of the Ashley Fink episode. I love the guest episodes, because most of it is new for me and a lot of it is interesting and/or funny.
Good news: SAG approved and the podcast goes on.
Ashley didn’t like that Lauren was eating in every scene. Someone (didn’t catch the name) talked to Ryan about it and it stopped. It never occured to him that this was not okay.
In hindsight: people with problems should have talked to the producers or have someone talk for them. I bet the producers didn’t know how Harry and Jenna felt about the asian jokes.
It’s funny to know that the cast played spin the bottle all the time. They weren‘t just playing teenagers, they behaved like teenagers. And they all got a cold because of it during the tour.
Ashley got tackled by security half of the time during the tour, because they thought she was a crazy fan.
In spite of the problems - like not be able to do other work during Glee - Ashley looks back with gratitude at the Glee experience and she got close friends out of it.

My question being featured on Jenna and Kevin's podcast was not on my bingo cards for today... And they all giggled so that's a win. And I got Damian to mention Derry, another win 😅

Glee's Own Teenage Dream Darren Criss Pt. 1
Blaine Anderson himself is on the pod!! Darren Criss joins Jenna and Kevin to talk about his journey getting on Glee, including auditioning for the show's pilot for the role of Finn, what he did differently in his second audition, what it was like joining the hit show, and the shocking revelation that he never saw himself doing musical theater! Yes, the Broadway star reveals he didn't think he was talented enough for that?! Plus, the duo is amused to learn of Darren's request to Ryan Murphy involving Artie and Santana, the surprising way Darren recorded his first few songs for The Warblers … a completely different process from the rest of the cast, and the time Darren got Kevin drunk at a karaoke bar and got him to belt out a Broadway show tune!

Finally got to listen to parts I & II of Darren's visit to, "And That's What You Really Missed." Putting my thoughts below the cut so I don't spoil anything for anyone who plans to listen later.
Darren is a talker. Lol! I love it!
I'm a little heartbroken to learn so much about demo singers, autotune and melodyne. I like to believe the entire casts sounds just like we hear them on the show. I know Darren explained the what and why behind the usage of these tools but...I don't know. It ruins it just a bit for me.
Hearing him share the Sutton Foster outing with Chris story again renews my pissed off feelings towards the CC tinhat crowd. It was such a happy, pure gesture on his part and the tinhats used it for years-long hatred being thrown towards Darren's now wife. Ugh. I did find it interesting how he knew from day one that he and Chris would never be able to appear together again in public. He knew what was headed their way. Sad.
I love his love for the experience. I found his take refreshing after listening to Kevin and Jenna describe their struggles. To be fair - as Darren pointed out - he had a completely different start from the rest of the cast. Can someone please fly me first class to NYC?
Overall, fun episodes to listen to as I drove my daughter back to college and me back home.
