satiating my craving for bts-related questions part 1/5

what's the first bts song you heard? To be honest with you I don’t think I’ll ever know the True Answer to this because they’ve been mainstream for a while now, and I know I’ve caught some of their songs on the radio back in college. If I had to guess it’d probably be something like DNA or Boy With Luv; but I would say the first song I heard when I was starting to give them a chance in 2020 was Dynamite. I feel like that song was a massive entryway for many of the current fans.

what's the first bts music video you watched? The first time I willingly watched a music video of theirs was in December 2020 when I watched Dynamite. At the time I wasn’t invested in the boys themselves and only watched the video because I liked the song.

who/what made you start stanning bts? So Angela urged me very early on and was always telling me stories about the guys, but I was pretty unmoveable until my Facebook feed fed me a short video from the Hawaii season of Bon Voyage – it was a snippet from that episode where they entered a restaurant one by one to order and speak with the nice old lady completely in English, and from there it was color me smitten lol.

Literally right after finishing the video I rushed to ask my sister to teach me their names, which took me a good few days to memorize.

who was your first bias and is now your current bias?

So from that Bon Voyage snippet, I formed a Hobi bias, right off the bat.

Then it turned to Jin, which I’d say was largely an influence of Angela’s since she’s a Jin bias hahaha.

Though once I started becoming a more invested fan and having my own thoughts about the group and all, it became Taehyung – and it was Taehyung for a really long time up until very recently.

Around a month ago I’ve switched biases and since then it’s been Namjoon.

you can only listen to one album for the rest of your life. which? the tweet i saw this from included photos of be, ly tear, mots 7, and dark & wild. This would be a very easy MOTS: 7 for me. Obviously I love the group’s entire discography, but personally Map of the Soul 7 is the album I’d listen from start to end without feeling like skipping any single song, ever.

You’ve got the guys’ intensity shining through on every OT7 track, the vibe of every subunit in their respective songs, a taste of each member’s personal music taste in the solo tracks, idrk what else you can ask from such a great release. Big shame Covid ruined the massive hype that was building up around the album.

what's your favourite collab? Steve Aoki. I really can’t live without that Mic Drop remix. Who with Lauv is amazing too! I’m also a fan of Coldtan largely because of the mutual respect and bond within the two.

what's your favourite bts japanese song? Your Eyes Tell. I’m obsessed with their Japanese discography in general, but I will say Your Eyes Tell is an extremely easy decision to make.

you can only choose one cypher! Contrary to most Armys’ preferences I’m not actually the craziest fan of the cyphers hahaha since they’re all very in-your-face rap, but I have to say Killer is my favorite. Triptych is also great, idk why it doesn’t get nearly as much hype as Killer and Cypher 4.

if your @ is bts related what does it mean? Obviously my username here isn’t, but I do have a secondary Twitter account for BTS fangirling stuff – sparklythv. It’s pretty self-explanatory, it’s just me and my appreciation for all the times Taehyung has looked all sparkly and pretty.

whose birthday is closest to yours? Yoongi’s is a month before mine.

favourite rap line song? UGH! Another easy decision to make, but Outro: Tear also gives it a run for its money.

favourite vocal line song? The Truth Untold. 00:00 is another favorite on other days.

zodiac compatibility with your bias? Idk and don’t care for this.

what’s your mbti compatibility with your bias? I actually researched this recently and saw that I’m apparently most compatible with Taehyung. I honestly thought it would’ve been Namjoon.

favourite songs in d2 and agust d? The Last from Agust D; Dear my friend from D-2.

favourite songs in hope world and jitb? Base Line or Blue Side from Hope World; Arson or What If from JITB. I’m just obsessed with everything j-hope lol

favourite songs in mono and RM? Joke from RM; everythingoes or uhgood from mono.

what official merch do you own? Uh...so many hahaha should I really delve on this?? I’ve got all albums in all their versions save for the LY series, MOTS Persona series, and MOTS 7 series; all the DVDs released starting April 2021 when I became a fan; a bunch of photocards and postcards I’ve bought individually; BT21 plushies; and a bunch of other miscellaneous merch like the BTS coffees, BTS Meal packaging, postcard books, mood light, a TinyTan V pen haha the list goes on, really.

ever seen the tannies live? I haven’t. The most beautiful moments in life take some time.

a n t i c i p a t i o n - first full album!! the vibe is Hopeful But Hesitant it has all the songs from the ep, plus some new ones!! collabs with youtube musicians troye and dodie, and y/n’s label sets up a collab that turns into a genuine friendship. the breakout dance hit is what else is there to say ft. Troye Sivan, which is about not knowing what to make content about when it feels like you’ve already told the world everything. it featured the prechorus and hook

personally, i also conceptually enjoy srs bsns which is a really upbeat song about how they don’t care if people don’t take them seriously because they know in their heart that what they’re doing is good

hyperfocus - 2nd EP, a pretty substantial departure from their usual style, but also happens to quietly be Corpse’s favourite, and is actually y/n’s most polarising, because it has both the Grammy award winning HEARTBURN and the o brother where art thou which was written partially as a joke to capture a fond moment of them and 5SOS dicking around together in a hotel. written while on tour wit 5SOS, im writing the reader as having ADHD (because I have ADHD and i can do what i want), and the backstory is that they’d changed the medication/dosage they were taking, and as it’s their first full tour, they were under a lot of stress and were in a weird place mentally and emotionally, and hyperfocus is the result of that. i’m going through some stuff has HUGE agoraphobic vibes.

HEARTBURN has the same vibes as Florence + The Machines’ Howl. It’s about being a demon without saying that or directly implying that unless you know demons real well. This is when the pressure for them to confirm their identity got real bad, and it was their way of working through those emotions.

In the time between hyperfocus and working on it, Y/N releases several singles, including a cover of Tell Him by The Exciters to be featured in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. They also take time to sort out their health, do a little bit more YT stuff, and travel internationally to do festivals.

working on it - is kind of a middle ground between their original stuff, and hyperfocus, like pop-punk meets horror-pop meets whatever you’d classify halsey as. the first three songs were mostly written before the fic starts, so before they’re getting back to YT, but the last three, nightmare scenario, designed to hurt (touch me), and not scared were all written after they’d started hanging out with sykkuno and corpse.

in-universe, imposter syndrome was originally something else, along the same lines of tired that they’re hiding that they’re a demon, but after meeting corpse nd sykkuno and having people who know, and lowkey being influenced by corpse’s music, the song changes directions, and YO OKAY YO::

I literally am so fucking flattered, my darling friend @bingusmode wrote lyrics for imposter syndrome and I’ve been yELLING about them ever since i’ve read them!! (also bunnie is fantastic and lovely in general 10/10)

ur my favourite - interlude ft. sykkuno is probably one of my favourites, it’s just really soft, just a snippet of a conversation between the reader and sykkuno, maybe one of them told a joke and they both just sound real happy and sweet. its nice. it’s a nice moment.

means something is also for sykkuno!! it’s about how good-strange it is to be open and honest with friends, and how they usually aren’t but they’re glad they can be open and honest with him!!

meanwhile, i don’t think about u - interlude ft. CORPSE is a phonecall between corpse & the reader right after they announce they’re going to feature on acting like that, where corpse asks if they do this sort of thing to spite him, to which the reader responds ‘do i consider you when i’m making decisions about my career? no, corpse, actually i don’t think about you at all’ which then directly contrasts the song that ends the album, which is (how it feels to be) beautiful fireworks, which is essentially ‘i know how hard it is to exist like this, to be the centre of attention, to give off light and bring people joy, even when you’re in pain. i’m here for you. i love you.’

perhaps the better question is what DON’T i love about this song

i’m still trying to decide whether this song stands out to me because louis said pre-release that its his fav off the album, or if it stands out because it just DOES. i DO feel like its unlike any other song! i mean they’re all kinda unlike each other IDK that’s another post but there IS something special about this song, i think its the feeling. there’s something really optimistic about it, and i don’t mean that all the others come off as sadder songs but i feel like Walls is looking forward?? i don’t even get that from the lyrics its just the vibe of the song itself. god WHAT am i saying

i loooooooove why is it that thank you’s are so often bittersweet, that is a good lyric lads and his VOICE at that part, i LOVE how his voice gets rougher as it gets higher, that part of his voice has always been used so infrequently and its so lovely!!!!!!!!!

the music itself like the blend of the instruments, THE STRINGS. the strings playing above it all!! i think they’re what gives me that feeling?? like everything happening in the song is made stronger/built higher by the strings. omg remember when we got the snippet of walls at the end of the dlibyh video and it was just 20 seconds of strings, and how LOVELY they were and how many times i listened to it, and still couldn’t have known how good the song was gonna be

god everything i love about this song feels so intangible like i don’t know how to even identify any of it its just A FEELING.

its just another one of those perfect songs. its a combination of perfect elements artfully strung together that make this really beautiful product. it gives louis’ voice such good range between the verses and that big chorus!!! and the way the instruments start and close so simply, just a guitar and a piano, but inbetween there’s SOO much happening, it doesn’t peak and drop like other songs it just has one single crest, starting gently and then rising and rising adding more until it comes back down at the end, maybe that’s why it feels different??? maybe not i don’t know!

i know i just keep starting new dot points to say another incoherent thing in an attempt to be coherent

but this song its forever tied to its video, which i would die for without a second thought and watch every single day :)

Q: What is BEGIN!AU?

A: It’s an AU that I created that is loosely based off of my interpretations the MVs (aka I have no clue what’s going on, so it’s kinda vague on purpose right now) Hopefully I will be expanding the world within it as time goes on though! As of now, it’s going to focus mainly on Jungkook and all the excerpts posted are written from his POV. I’m still working on fleshing out everything, so please bear with me.

I’m hoping that there will be several parts? But as of now, I currently have the Prologue Series and the what will be the Reflection Series (this is a work in progress– idk if I’m gonna keep that name, so it’s a placeholder for now lol) Both are based off of Jungkook’s memories. The Prologue is more or less a teaser to the actual storyline, whereas the Reflection Series will just be short snippets of his thoughts of each of the members (So there will be 6 parts total – I was originally going to release each portion on the member’s birthdays, but some are too clumped so I might be releasing them in random blocks of time lol J-Hope and Suga’s should be released on time of their bday though!)

Q: Can I ask questions to Begin!JK?

A: Depending on the nature of the asks, I will be either answering them within this AU or just do a non-AU. (It honestly depends on the question) But if you’re an askblog and want to do an AU crossover, I AM SO DOWN FOR A COLLAB. (it can be in this AU or a different one too!) I’m also working on several solo pieces that will pertain to this AU, but that’s like for the way future!

Q: Can I drew fanart for this AU?

A: JDGHSKGJHLG Sure! Just keep in mind that I haven’t determined what is ‘canon’ and what isn’t in this AU yet when it comes to fic writing, so idk how much you guys have to work with since everything is like ‘what is going on right now’ lol If anything you can say it was inspiration from my AU and that it’s your own interpretation of it since it’s not really based off it??? Idkman lol bc tbh I don’t even know what’s going on with my AU LOL However once my AU is more developed which won’t be for awhile, all I ask is that you credit me somewhere if it specifically relates to my AU & its plot! :) Also feel free to tag me if you post on tumblr! I would love to see the finished pieces! :’D

Also, kinda related but not really: please note that I do not allow for any of my works to be reposted, altered, or edited on any social media outside of this tumblr account as stated in my general FAQ. (I got an ask regarding this, but I’ll post my reply later bc it’s long and it’s kinda a topic I’ve been struggling a lot with as an artist)

Theme & Interpretation

My interpretation of the AU, as mentioned before is loosely based off the MVs taken with artistic freedom. (Well less about the plot of the MVs, and more about the overall meaning of them) The main theme of this AU relates to the ‘loss of innocence’ or simply ‘growing up’ in layman’s terms . (This is especially alluded to in the most recent MV of “Spring Day’ where they made a reference to Omelas) Healing and mending wounds is also a underlying theme as well.

I want to to explore the areas of self discovery, self forgiveness, and self understanding. The Jungkook in this AU based off the prologue, is still struggling to accept the present and unwilling to leave the past behind. He’s struggling in the sense that he can’t let go of the past and those memories haunt him. While he does realize that the world is not kind, nor is it fair, he has a hard time accepting it, which is why he constantly wishes for things to return back to the way they were – back to happier days.

The whole entire prologue series is basically him battling against his conscience, contemplating on the ‘what ifs’ of moments in his past when he knows that there’s nothing he can do to change them. However at the last panel of the prologue series, you might notice that I drew him smiling compared to the panel right before where he’s just looking at the viewer– this was done for a reason.

I released the last part of the series right before the You Never Walk Alone album dropped, so I was honestly hoping that the image I had in mind would link it some way to the new songs AND GOD BLESS IT DID. There is a line in the supplemental story that said ‘But we can smile if we’re together’ and I was like YES GOOD JOB PAST DISSU U MADE A CORRECT DECISION OF WHERE UR TAKING UR AU BEFORE THE SONG CAME OUT LMFAO but that line of the song basically echos the sentiment that I was trying to portray in that last panel. So yes, the prologue series can be very angsty, but at the same time I wanted it to end with a message of hope at the end. There’s are a bunch of random easter eggs from when I was putting the whole series together, so if you have a question behind any of the panels or lines, feel free to ask! :D

Prologue Fun Facts

- The quotes following each part are all excerpts taken from Demian. I tried making them somewhat relate to the different parts, but one of the reasons I chose them was because they stood out to me– they also tie to common theme of growing up and accepting yourself.

- Almost all the scenes from P2 & P3 are in reference to the MVs, namely Run, I NEED U, Prologue, & Young Forever (props if you can recognize which MVs are from which panels lol)

- Some phrases in the lines used are a nod to some song titles as well! :)
