There’s a weird flavor of Marxist on here who’s comeback to “hey piracy and theft is hurting small creators” is “i can’t believe you actually think money is something positive you righteously deserve if you contribute enough to society, not something we should try to render obsolete” (paraphrase of a real post yesterday). And like. I guess you can think whatever you want philosophically about money (or bartering, or services rendered). But in the mean time people do need to eat and I think it’s shitty to respond to someone saying “I can’t afford to eat because you devalue my labor” with “you should starve on principle until we can revolutionize the economy.” Like, since you can’t yet promise people the benefits of public housing/guaranteed food and medicine/co-op labor, you’re telling people they should produce goods and services for free. You can’t get away with forcing that on doctors because the AMA (derogatory) actively throws its weight around to stop the modernization of the healthcare system. There’s just no “AMA” equivalent for starving artists. I think the actual issue here is that at baseline you don’t value their labor (in the philosophical sense, not just the monetary sense), and I don’t think that would change if you magically remodeled housing/the workplace/etc.
