everyday I am reminded of why I stopped getting into fandoms

The Gifted Rant

Okay so I've been thinking about this and like I love the Gifted but it has a lot of issues with its content and one of my problems with this show is how all the black characters are essentially villians.

Firstly, Jace who has went from a somewhat sympathetic character has completely derailed and cannot be redeemed. Even though the show points out in a episode in Season 2 that acknowledges Jace as a black man and how it's f*cked up that he's demonizing and antagonizing mutants just like the KKK antagonized, murdered and sought after black people. Like...the show pointed it out and made that comparison but that doesn't make it any better??? Jace never directly responded to the young black boy that called him out, he just sighed™️™️ and that's it. He's literally with the purifiers, A HATE GROUP. We could have had Jace redeem himself and realize the struggles of mutants and help them, and fight FOR instead of against but of course the black man is relegated to being the human pile of shit. I could go on and on about Jace but won't because this post is already gonna be too long.

Next is Reeva. So the beginning of season two, I was excited to see if The Gifted would take a much more nuanced approach of the Inner Circle and Reeva's character but unsurprisingly they're not going that route. Reeva is the only black woman in the show that has more than three scenes, so I don't know what I was expecting but anyways. It turns out that all this time Reeva was just a evil Mastermind. The gifted attempted to give her a backstory and make her a bit more better than Rebecca Hoover but as we progress through this season we see that she's just really vile to the core. Also side note: the whole her not finding out Polaris was the spy is ridiculous. Lorna was horrible at spying but go off, I guess.

Next is Erg. For me this is problem for both the fandom AND the show. What I mean is that all posts I see and reaction videos I watch on YouTube act like Erg is the devil. Either people want Erg to die or be written off, they don't care for him, blame him and the morlocks for messing up Thunderblink. I saw multiple post saying they can't wait for John to punch Erg next episode. Girrrrlll........ seriously? Like Clarice possibly dying is not Erg's fault. People are acting like he is the one who shot Clarice or threatened her to stay and help the morlocks fight off the purifiers. Somehow everything is Erg's fault for y'all. Is he stubborn? Yes, completely, but blaming her death on him and wishing for him to get punched is too far. I love Thunderblink but let's not act like Erg is Mr. steal yo girl. Blink believed in the morlocks, she felt to save those people because that's what she's wants to do, save people. Erg has flaws and he's not my favorite character but blaming him for the attacks on the morlocks and Clarice is too far. I'm not saying y'all have to praise the ground he walks on but to tone down on the "I CaNT wAIT TIL JOHN PUNCHES HIM!!!!!! (((:" Plus people are saying the morlocks aren't better than the Inner Circle..............girl what?! The Morlocks don't go out of that way to kill humans or mutant groups that they feel threaten them. Y'all some damn hypocrites, y'all up the Mutant Underground ass but hate the Morlocks The mutant Underground has major problems itself. Not gonna rant about that on this post too much. I'll write a better rant for them on my next post so I'll digress.

Lastly, another thing I have a HUGE problem with is that majority of the mutants are white and straight people. Like, come on. The mutants are supposed to represent minorities and a lot of queer and poc (like myself) can identify with their struggles. I wished the gifted had more black and characters of color instead of replacing our voices with white people.

I also wish we had queer representation, like things like being kicked out of your home, and finding out youre a mutant, this can easily be identified as queer experiences.

Majority of the cast are white people and all their characters have not been confirmed as anything other than straight. I don't want no ambiguous "you Invision the characters how you want ((:" NO. I need a character to explicitly say they're queer, gay, bisexual, lesbian, trans, ace, etc.

It's really hard to love this show when it just seems like a bunch of white saviors in the forefront.

Lastly, I really hope Blink is alive and well, if the show kills it's only Asian/main woc I'll riot. She better be stronger or get a power upgrade and turn up at the end of the season.

I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way. Lol this comes off as very angry but I'm more annoyed, tired, and upset at the issues of the show and its fandom.
