hi!! im the op of the genderswap poll and your tags made me so happy bc i thought i was the only person who liked mtf to ftm genderswaps!! i think they're so cool and have a lot of room for character exploration!!

YEEES I'm so happy that YOU'RE happy!!!

It feels so reductive to boil it down to strictly "big action man" to "big booby lady with no muscle". while that certainly happens a lot, it's excluding a lot of different cool ways to explore gender and sex!!! like, I'll use my character Jack as just an example

Jack is someone who, as the oldest male sibling outta their family, grew up with a LOT of toxic masculinity drilled into their brain. they felt like they had to be the big strong protector, never show anything other than anger and happiness, and that if they relaxed even slightly, everybody around them would get hurt. but when they're older and have a partner, they suddenly feel way more stable and socially transition to nb! they can wear lipstick, earrings, etc.- stuff they would've been terrified to touch beforehand. and it's freeing! but just because they have more freedom doesn't mean that that toxic masculinity they were soaked in leaves completely; he's still very scared of becoming an abuser and losing himself.

and then I LOVE Jill, who is the genderswapped version of him, because the societal pressures change and that changes how they grow as a character! Jill is butch- instead of feeling like they have to prove themself to be a "real man", they feel like they have to prove that they're as STRONG as a cis man. this also intertwines with their bisexuality; because Jill is visibly gnc off the bat, they accept it way sooner because they're already getting heat for being gnc. and that's just scratching the surface :]

howdy! i saw your tags on the genderbend post and wanted to say that the sentiment of "i want to see more varied female character designs" is shared with a lot of other people! going into making the poll, i hadn't even considered it, but you're absolutely right and i agree!! :D

YAY I GOT A GOOD GRADE IN GENDERBEND OPINIONS :D i love your poll for not taking a biased side btw bgjhbghjfd its such a like. gray area topic i find - i did find a lot of genderbends offensive growing up, but i also was really attached to them because they were a fun way to explore my multigender identity, and i absolutely love them now jbfhjbghjdbj so many mixed emotions <33 im glad youre running it, i like seeing everyones thoughts :]

howdy!! i saw your tags on the genderswap poll and, regarding the discourse surrounding it, i actually haven't seen anyone arguing that they're inherently transphobic, moreso that they're personally uncomfortable with it!

i agree that i don't think there's anything transphobic about them necessarily (weird people will be weird though. as usual) and i think they're an underutilized way to explore a character's relationship with gender! as a trans person myself, i think they can be used respectfully and in interesting ways as well :D

you know, i am really glad to hear that, because i'm positive that some years back there was somehow a big consensus that genderbends were capital-P Problematic(TM). (included w the whole movement to rename it "cisswap" for reasons i dont remember?) so maybe that was happening in a smaller bubble than I was aware of, or people have actually just moved on from that thought. either way, i'm glad!

(and agreed!! i don't actively seek 'em out much but when i see 'em they're usually pretty neat)

hiya hiya! i saw your tags on the genderswap poll and wanted to agree, while a lot of genderswaps are just bioessentialist and reduce developed characters into Predefined Gender Role, seeing people put actual thought into how a character would change if their gender was different makes me really happy!! it's especially interesting to see people do it with their ocs and blorbos, bc it gives them an opportunity to think about what gender means to that character! :D

THISSSS YOU GET IT!! its a really cool way to explore the 'what-if's of a character but only if its done responsibly 👍

i wanted to jump in and agree with you abt genderswaps where a character is trans in the opposite way, i think it's a great way to analyze how a character feels about their own gender and queerness!! :D

heyhey! i saw your tags on the genderswap poll and... you'd be surprised how many people have talked about realizing they're trans because of some genderswap art!!

Ahaha, yeah I looked at a few of the tags and it does look to be a pretty common trend! Although I feel like it usually works in the opposite way it did for me, where people look at a genderbend and want to be that gender rather than simply being confused as to why ANYONE would want to look like that.
