Patrick Hansen Asserts: No Ban on Non-Custodial Crypto Wallets Under EU’s AMLR:
Patrick Hansen, a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency space, has clarified recent concerns regarding the European Union's Anti-Money Laundering Regulations (AMLR) and their potential impact on non-custodial crypto wallets. Amidst growing speculation and confusion within the crypto community, Hansen emphasizes that there is no ban on non-custodial wallets under the EU's AMLR framework.
Recent discussions surrounding the EU's AMLR have raised apprehensions among crypto enthusiasts, particularly regarding the regulatory treatment of non-custodial wallets. Non-custodial wallets, which provide users with full control over their private keys and funds, are a fundamental aspect of the decentralized nature of cryptocurrencies. Concerns emerged amidst fears that the AMLR could impose stringent regulations that would effectively ban or restrict the usage of non-custodial wallets, thereby stifling innovation and limiting financial freedom within the crypto ecosystem.
However, Patrick Hansen, a leading voice in the cryptocurrency community and an advocate for regulatory clarity, has sought to dispel these concerns. According to Hansen, the EU's AMLR does not explicitly ban non-custodial wallets. Instead, the regulations focus on enhancing transparency and accountability within the crypto space by requiring certain entities, such as custodial wallet providers and cryptocurrency exchanges, to comply with stringent anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) requirements.
Hansen emphasizes that non-custodial wallet users, who maintain full control over their private keys and funds, are not directly subject to the AMLR regulations. However, he underscores the importance of exercising caution and adhering to best practices to ensure compliance with AML regulations, particularly when engaging in transactions with regulated entities or conducting large-scale transactions that may raise suspicions of illicit activity.
Furthermore, Hansen encourages collaboration between industry stakeholders, regulators, and policymakers to develop a balanced regulatory framework that fosters innovation while mitigating risks associated with money laundering and financial crime. He advocates for proactive engagement with regulatory authorities to address concerns and clarify regulatory ambiguities, ultimately promoting a conducive environment for the growth and development of the cryptocurrency industry in Europe.
As the crypto landscape continues to evolve, regulatory clarity and certainty are crucial for fostering trust and confidence among market participants. Hansen's reassurance regarding the EU's stance on non-custodial wallets under the AMLR framework provides much-needed clarity for individuals and businesses operating within the European crypto market.
In conclusion, Patrick Hansen's assertion that there is no ban on non-custodial crypto wallets under the EU's AMLR framework alleviates concerns and uncertainty within the crypto community. By promoting dialogue and collaboration between stakeholders, Hansen advocates for a regulatory environment that balances innovation with the need for robust AML measures, laying the groundwork for the sustainable growth of the cryptocurrency industry in Europe.

EU Lawmakers Vote for Three Major Texts in Anti-Money Laundering Package That Also Targets Crypto
Two lawmaker committees in the European Parliament on Tuesday adopted three major texts in a broad anti-money laundering legislative package that also applies to crypto. The vote follows a political agreement on the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) in January, which will require crypto service providers to comply with customer verification requirements and monitor cross-border transfers…

Web3 Evolution: IOTA Foundation Introduces Privacy-Focused KYC Solution
Amidst the growing scrutiny and regulatory landscape surrounding cryptocurrencies, the IOTA Foundation, in collaboration with strategic partners including Walt.id, IDnow, Bloom Wallet, and SPYCE.5, has unveiled an innovative Know Your Customer (KYC) solution tailored specifically for Web3 applications. This development comes as global and EU regulations tighten their grip on the crypto industry, imposing obligations on Crypto Asset Service Providers (CASPs) to collect user information and verify identities for transactions involving self-hosted wallets.
The recent implementation of the Transfer of Funds Regulation (TFR) and the existing Anti-Money-Laundering Regulation (AMLR) have propelled the need for robust KYC solutions within the crypto space. In response, IOTA and its partners have introduced a pioneering KYC system designed to offer seamless onboarding to Web3 applications, ensuring compliance with regulations while prioritizing user privacy.
Key elements of this KYC solution include the remote identification process led by IDnow, providing both fully automated and human-assisted options aligned with anti-money laundering and countering terrorism financing (AML/CFT) rules. Walt.id takes charge of tokenizing the identification process, securing the confirmation of authentication with full privacy. The resulting token is stored in the Bloom wallet, becoming a secure and privacy-centric soulbound token tied to the authenticated address.
This collaborative effort not only addresses the challenges posed by evolving regulations but also showcases the commitment of IOTA and its partners to lead in the development of innovative solutions for Web3 applications. As the crypto landscape navigates the complexities of compliance and privacy, this initiative positions the IOTA Foundation and its collaborators as pioneers in shaping the future of KYC within the decentralized and privacy-centric Web3 ecosystem.

☄️ Cryptocurrencies Under Attack in the EU: New Stringent Regulations Aim to Limit Anonymity and Trace Transactions. ☄️
💰 Published by Bitcoin Report Italia, 23/01/2024 💰
🎆 In a context of growing authoritarianism and an evident state of panic, the European Union (EU) is planning a series of significant regulatory changes that will impact cryptocurrencies, putting a ban on self-custody wallets and privacy coins at the center of the discussion, along with the approval of transaction tracking.
Tumblr media
☄️ Anti-Money Laundering Regulations and Crypto-Assets ☄️
🎆 The European Commission, the Council, and the Parliament are currently defining the final details of the new regulations, focusing on the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) and Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA). While some parts of MiCA are expected to come into effect this year, AMLR is still under negotiation, with an estimated implementation between 2026 and 2027.
🎆 Cryptocurrency advocates are concerned that AMLR might create confusion rather than clarity, potentially being more stringent than MiCA. However, unlike the United States, the EU has received praise for introducing a new authoritative… oh no, regulatory framework, though there are concerns about its potential impact on crypto businesses, especially startups.
☄️ Limits on Anonymity and the Role of the Commission ☄️
🎆 The EU Council is seeking to ban cryptocurrencies that guarantee customer anonymity, including Monero and Zcash, and to end cryptocurrency mixers like Tornado Cash. Furthermore, the goal is to ban anonymous accounts offered by cryptocurrency wallet service providers and limit the maximum amount acceptable from self-custody wallets without involving a centralized entity to €1,000, with sanctions for violations.
🎆 The Parliament is asking the Commission to assess the possibility of modifying these provisions in three years, in line with European plans to implement a digital identity framework. However, resistance from the Commission and the Council could influence this possibility.
☄️ Due Diligence Post Hamas Attack ☄️
🎆 After Hamas' attack on Israel in October 2023, legislators introduced additional "due diligence" measures for companies handling cryptocurrency transactions below €1,000, considering that terrorist groups often use low-value transactions to conceal funding practices.
🎆 The new, stricter regulations, uniformly applied across the 27 member states, will replace previous directives, ensuring greater violation of individual freedoms and rights, and the mission for which Bitcoin or many cryptocurrencies were created, in the application of rules. The EU will also establish a new authority to oversee the rules once they become law, as it rapidly moves towards implementing a social credit system, with CBDC (Digital Euro), and the long-awaited Digital Identity Wallet dreamed of by Gavi when, in 2011, it began investing in the ID2020 project, later becoming the Green Pass and now the European Digital Identity Wallet.
