Koh Bon and Koh Tachai Dive Sites

Koh Bon and Koh Tachai are two remote islands which sit alone and between The #SimilanIslands chain and the Surin Islands. Koh Bon is nearer to The Similans, and Koh Tachai, a little further north, is nearer to Koh Surin. While they both offer excellent diving, and arguably the best chances of #MantaRay sightings, they share both similarities and differences. Both islands have healthy #corals which support lots of fish #invertebrates and even #marinereptiles. The sea conditions are also similar, regarding depths, visibility and currents. In addition, they are ideal for speedboat day trips from Khao Lak diving centres. They aren't as far as Surin's dive sites, yet offer something different from The Similans' nine main islands. Koh Bon differs from Koh Tachai in that it has no beach. While it has more diving space 😁 underwater and the famous wall, Koh Tachai has this wonderful, pristine beach along its eastern coastline.

#ScubaDivingInBurma is a truly fantastic experience, but at present not the easiest of things to achieve.

The area was only opened up to recreational #scubadiving and international tourism in 1997, and #diving there is still only possible when starting from Thailand.

There are thousands of islands and countless locations which are (or could be) #worldclassdivesites.

Although there are opportunities to take a #divingdaytrip from one or two luxury resorts within Myanmar, nearly all of the diving in the country is aboard #liveaboarddivingboats from Ranong, Khao Lak or even Phuket, in Thailand.

These boats set sail in the evening near the border, process the necessary paperwork at immigration the following morning, then go diving in a truly unspoilt and beautiful area, normally without another #divingboat in sight.

At present, The #MerguiArchipelago and Burma Banks are the only area in #Myanmarscubadiving

This group of 800+ #islands lies in Myanmar’s south and covers a vast area. #Liveaboardboats are only able to visit a tiny fraction of this wonderful part of the world because of the distances which need to be covered.

The Burma Banks are quite far out to the west, and although #fantasticdivesites the distance is sometimes just too far for some people.

It could be that in the future, more diving opportunities open up in Myanmar, with the islands further north being accessed, but for logistical reasons, this would have to be done from within Myanmar.
