Many years ago, there was a young fairy boy who lived with his parents in the floating garden city as Kulondera. Kulondera was known to be the center of the world - the legendary abode of the fairy queen who watches over the world below with kindness and grace.
The young fairy boy knew first hand, however, that the most recent queen to take the throne was not nearly as kind as her predecessors. His family lived in terrible poverty, pushed all the way back to the cliff edges of the floating garden together as a community with the other poor fairies.
Their community had no money to buy goods, so the poor fairies made a living by trading what they had with each other. The fairy boy's father was in a special position, being a servant of the queen. He used this position to steal necessities from the castle, and the community was able to make do well enough thanks to these opportunities.
Their stability wouldn't last, however. Eventually the father was caught and sentenced to death for his crimes. The young fairy boy had already been stretched thin working odd jobs from a young age, but with the loss of his father's support, it just wasn't enough anymore. Not for his family nor the rest of the community. Eventually the boy also lost his sickly mother, both to sickness and also grief.
The day the fairy boy lost his mother, he saw how the people around him were struggling more than ever before. He questioned why the queen who was supposed to watch over her people acted so cruelly, and questioned why no one did anything to stop her. He became enraged at the fate he was uncaringly left to.
The fairy boy snapped that day.
He already had some knowledge about politics thanks to his father's stories about the inner workings of the castle, and he had good muscle strength thanks to the odd jobs he worked. The boy was confident in his abilities. The boy had decided he would take the throne for himself.
And that he did.

Li Xiang Jiao is a 23 year old half-human-half-fox who has a lot of emotional issues and hidden secrets. Growing up, he was very skilled and responsible with his work, and very kind and playful with his younger brother. He was even a member of the XSPF on top of training to take over the family. After Grandpa Hwan started making things hard on them following the murder of Saeyoung’s parents, the two retired early and handed their positions down to the responsible Xiang Jiao (who willingly retired from the XSPF early), wanting to leave that life behind to live simple lives with only each other. After a large fire that almost killed him and his brother though, he stepped down from his position as the head of the Li family and became unruly. He started doing a whole lot of morally bad things, like sleeping around and making friends with criminals. He also became more distant from his brother. He refuses to speak about the night of the fire, and will get angry if anyone persists in asking questions.
On the outside, Xiang Jiao is loose with himself. He is loud and extroverted, and will do just about any crazy thing. He's dangerously self-sacrificing and doesn't have a high opinion of himself. Under all of the hurt, however, Xiang Jiao is a caring, responsible older brother who has much pride in his work. He likes making friends, though he will be quick to drop someone if they come out the wrong way, especially if they insult his family. Xiang Jiao also tends to follow his emotions instead of listening to logic. This gets him into trouble at times, but he always seems to make it work in the end.

Li Wu Xian is a 21 year old half-human-half-fox. He is the head of the Li family, which is a subsidiary branch of the main Hwan family. Li Wu Xian is the younger brother of Li Xiang Jiao, who should be the leader of the Li family, but stepped down after a large house fire that almost killed them both. The Li family has several dealings in the criminal underground, though they are nowhere near as involved as the Hwan family is. Because Grandpa Hwan had developed a hatred of humans after the death of Saeyoung’s parents, he made things hard on the Li brothers' fox-spirit mother and human father, for obvious reasons. Eventually, the two grew tired of it and left the business to Xiang Jiao, wanting to live a simple life away from the mafia with just the two of them. Thus, half-human-half-fox Li Wu Xian is stuck running a crumbling family business with no parents to guide him and no responsible older brother to help pick up the pieces.
Although Wu Xian does not like dealing with the criminal underground, his family is crumbling and following after the main Hwan family in their mafia activities is the fastest and easiest way to patch things together. After the fire, his older brother Xiang Jiao became unruly and irresponsible. Xiang Jiao believes that the fire was his fault, and thus he turned to immoral activities as a way to cope with it. Although Wu Xian would never admit it, he wants nothing more than for his brother to return to the way he was before.
Wu Xian is naturally quite mischievous and disobedient, and he has a strange obsession with fire – even more so after the fire that almost killed him. He was forced to take up the mantle and all of the responsibilities that came with it after his brother stepped down. He does his job well enough and he doesn't necessarily hate it, though he would much rather be out having fun than doing what was supposed to be his brother's job. Although Wu Xian can appear stoic at first glance, he is not shy in the least. When it comes to his deeper emotions, however, Wu Xian will not say a word.
“It’s at times like these that I wish I was a full sociopath. Then I wouldn’t have to waste my time with this.”

Hwan Saeyoung is a 24 year old mafia man, born and raised. He is a contracted spirit-fox, and is also the heir to the Hwan family mafia. Theoretically he should have taken over the family by now, but after his parents were killed by humans while out on a mission, his human-hating grandfather took the mafia back over again and refused to hand it over to Saeyoung.
Saeyoung does what needs to be done without thinking twice, and he doesn't like to let his own emotions get in the way of his actions. He doesn't like killing people, but it is a given for him to do bad things like this as a person in his field. Thus, he makes sure to always do things in the quickest and most painless way possible. On the outside he is bold and strong, because he was raised to be the heir and next leader for the Hwan family mafia. He was not allowed to form close bonds with others or show weaknesses, because then enemy mafias could take advantage of them to attack Saeyoung. He in particular, because he is a contracted spirit as opposed to a regular spirit, had to be especially strong because his special abilities make him a target of fear and hatred. Once you get past the tough exterior, Saeyoung is actually quite shy and soft. He loves soft things and sweet foods, and he strongly dislikes spicy or bitter food. He loves helping injured animals and children, and he secretly wishes to open a sanctuary for protecting spirits and animals.
Saeyoung’s main goal is to transform his mafia family into an international secret police force. He hates himself for the crimes he’s committed and he hates the kind of business his family gets into, however he stays in the mafia for the sake of not just escaping and saving only himself, but waiting until the day he takes over as heir to change his entire family from the inside out. Saeyoung keeps his dreams to himself and works undercover, making personal alliances and preparing for the day he can finally make a difference.

Liu Bei is a 523 year old male dragon spirit, who lives and works within Ka'aluah for the purpose of protecting the last few natural dragons from any human (or spirit) hunters. Being the Vice-Captain of War, he is good at spying and getting information. Strategizing is also one of his strong points, though his strongest ability is undeniably in his sword. He is secretly doing his own investigations about the origins and true identity of the dragon council members, hoping to find a clue about their disappearance and a way to bring them back.
Though he is the Vice-Captain of War, Ka’aluah has never once been at war during his time in office - probably because Liu Bei is too good at his job. He and Yi Lan work very well together when it comes to detecting and dealing with foreign threats. When he is not dealing with foreign threats, he is helping Zhi Hao deal with criminals (Since Liu Bei himself does a similar thing - just on a larger scale). Liu Bei and Zhi Hao are especially good together when tracking down criminals who have escaped to other countries.
Liu Bei is an upstanding individual. He is one of the best swordsmen of all the dragons, and he is highly respected by his peers. For the most part he is logical over sentimental, though he will take large risks if he feels strongly enough about something. Liu Bei values people who are strong-willed and set in their beliefs, and dislikes those who change their minds a lot. He has his own set opinions, though he would never push them on someone else. He would prefer that people follow their own desires without worrying about what others say.

Cuvar is a male fairy who has lived in Kulondera his whole life. He grew up in a poor family together with his weak and sickly stay-at-home mother and underpaid castle staff father, and had started working from a young age to help provide for them. Cuvar is very smart, and is the kind of morally gray character who does what he needs to do. He doesn't enjoy hurting people, rather, he merely does what sees as necessary without remorse. He is very straightforward and concise, and does not appreciate tricky words or unnecessarily drawn-out events. Cuvar very much supports the “brutally murder 3 people to save the lives of 10 more” ideal. He is an anti-villain type character, and the main antagonist.
After the Alinian Fairy Queen passed a law that hurt the poorer fairies in Kulondera, Cuvar decided that he had enough and launched an attack on the palace and took over. He killed the Queen, but the young princess and her two guards went missing along with the Chikami crystal. He plans on recovering the crystal so he can rule over Kulondera and revert Alina back to the way it was meant to be.
“You seem to be very young and naive. Don't always believe what others say without first thinking for yourself. When you get back, ask those two guards what the queen was like. If you decide that what she did was wrong and you want to change things, I am more than willing to take you in. Go back now.“
