He trained Alydar, who was the only horse to win the 'second place' Triple Crown, finishing 2nd behind Affirmed in all three legs in 1978.
Alydar died under mysterious circumstances, having to be euthanized after an unlikely stall accident. Insurance companies paid $37 million to settle the claim but Calumet Farms still went bankrupt the next year.

it's honestly wild that so many aspects of your personality can be conveyed online and yet so many are not
y'all don't even know how much brainpower I devote to thinking about Secretariat and how he's probably the only athlete (including people) who's executed a perfect event (the 1973 Belmont) that may actually never be beaten especially with the absolute disaster that is horse racing and Thoroughbred breeding today (not that either was ever perfect or without extreme abuse) and how Sham actually holds the second fastest Kentucky Derby time ever, which means that Sham would actually beat any of the Derby winners before or since EXCEPT FOR SECRETARIAT
#don't even get me started on the alydar incident#anyway i stopped watching racing years ago but i do still have a love of race horses#and horses in general. i love horses. i miss being around horses.#BUT THAT IS ANOTHER TALE... FOR ANOTHER DAY.

Then here is how the Edix Alydar did... pretty good. It’s definitely a saddle I’d like to have, but they’re pricey. The Barefoot Nottingham is considered ok for jumping as far as weight distribution goes, but since its designed kind of like a baroque saddle it puts me in a bad position and I wind up landing harder and having a lower leg that swings back more, so that’s why I’m jumping Amba bareback a lot now.

Vandaag hadden we een dagje Noord Holland om o.a. knappe Damon Dubois en zijn baasje Day van alle zadel ellende af te helpen. Damon de sprookjespony is een prachtige verschijning met zijn kleur en mooie ronde model. Wat tevens heel wat problemen veroorzaakt voor de meeste zadels. Zo schoof het vorige zadel steeds naar voren… of eigenlijk moet ik zeggen dat de zadels niet geschikt waren voor hem, want voor ieder paard of pony een passend zadel! Na de zadelevaluatie konden we meteen aanwijzen waar de problemen vandaan kwamen. Het korte draagvlak, oplopende rug en extreem veel lossigheid in zijn krachtige lijf maken dat de meeste zadels naar voren gewurmd worden vanuit de lendenen. Ik adviseerde een Edix Tariq. Uit dezelfde Edix softtree range waar ook de Tudor, Yasir, Emir en Alydar uit komen. Kenmerkend voor de Edix zadels zijn de conventionele Engelse op opbouw maar dan flexibel. Dit doet het erg goed op de rondgeribte pony’s zoals Damon die veel ruimte behoeven. Damon begon de testrit als een kleine “Demon” en wilde even testen of Day wel stevig kon zitten in de Edix Tariq. Deze test heeft ze met vlag en wimpel behaald want ze had meeer dan genoeg “houvast”😅 Heel veel succes en plezier lieve Day & Cindy met knappe Damon Dubois. Ein-de-lijk een passend zadel waar jullie mee vooruit kunnen! Por no aburrir y citar solo a los ganadores de G1 recordemos que pertenecen a esta línea materna, PEINTRE CELEBRE (ganador del Arco y conocido semental) que es hijo de PEINTURE BLUE, abuela de PETRA y a PAWNESSE (Oaks Epsom) hija de PLENCIA cuarta madre PETRA.
Pero vayamos con su línea masculina que también es extraordinaria
Los sementales hasta tercera generación en su pedigrí masculino son; CRACKSMAN; FRANKEL y GALILEO. El abuelo paterno-materno es PIVOTAL y el bisabuelo POLAR FALCON
Los sementales que completan su dotación genética por línea femenina son; STORM CAT, varias veces campeón de sementales en USA, el padre, de Storm Cat, el magnífico STORM BIRD y completa la tercera generación el padre de su abuela materna, ALYDAR, ganador de la triple corona americana.
Todos los sementales del pedigrí de PETRA son sementales consagrados y sólo el moderno CRACKSMAN, que ha hecho la monta a 17.500 GBP en 2021, no ha tenido tiempo para demostrarlo.
¡¡Todas las hembras en las tres primeras generaciones de PETRA son ganadoras “BlacK Type” y han producido corredores “BlacK Type”!! Todas salvo una, su abuela paterna St. Radegund, ganadora en dos salidas e hija de la ganadora de las 1.000 guineas ON THE HOUSE.
Un detalle que habla de la calidad de PETRA es su debut en el premio Primer Paso, pues ni Cracksman es un semental que fuese dos años, aunque ganara sobre la milla en su única salida en Octubre, ni Peinture Rose, su madre, exhibió precocidad ya que no corrió a esa edad y no fue ganadora hasta el mes de junio de sus tres años.
