Boeing gains $400 million extension to support and modernize the Australian Super Hornets
600 million Australian dollar contract guarantees local jobs and keeps Australians safe.

More than 350 local jobs in Queensland will be secured under a new contract of A$600 million (about US$401 million) to sustain and upgrade the F/A-18F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler fleets of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).
The extension of the five-year contract, granted to Boeing Defense Australia, will allow support for the Super Hornet and Growler programs to continue until 2030, ensuring the long-term retention of a highly qualified specialized workforce at the RAAF Base in Amberley.
Australians working in the defense industry will supervise the engineering, maintenance and project management for the maintenance and updating of fleets.
The [Australian] government is firmly committed to supporting Australia's defense industry and workforce. It is important to note that more than 90% of the contract amount will be spent in Australia and mainly in southeast Queensland.
The Air Combat and Electronic Attack Support Contract with Boeing Defense Australia began on July 1, 2016 for an initial period of 5 years. This is the second extension of the contract, bringing the total value of the contract to US$ 1.2 billion.
The extension of the contract occurs at the moment when the EA-18G Growler airborne electronic attack capacity reaches the final operational capacity.
Operated by Squadron Nº 6 at Amberley's RAAF Base, the Airborne Electronic Attack capability consists of 12 EA-18G Growler aircraft, equipped with the ALQ-99 Tactical Interference System and the AGM-88 series of anti-radiation missiles.
Defense Industry Minister Pat Conroy said: "The Amberley government knows that the most valuable defense asset we have is our people. That is why we are investing in more than 350 highly qualified local jobs and fulfilling our commitment to ensure that Australia has a robust defense industry.
"At a time of increasing global tensions, it is essential to maintain first-rate aircraft and a highly qualified local workforce. This extension of the contract strengthens our preparation for any potential challenges.
“A strong defense industry is also crucial to protect Australians and their interests, as well as contributing to regional stability.
"I congratulate Boeing Defense Australia and all defense industry partners involved in the maintenance and support of the Super Hornet and Growler fleets."

hiiii i saw ur fic and i was wondering if i could request kaeya x reader but y/n is really insecure cuz she's a little on the chubby side? and kaeya and her get into a fight abt it cuz y/n thinks she's embarrassing him and he says some hurtful things....then y/n runs into the street and gets hit by a car and when kaeya is holding her he says he's sorry and cries a lot? ive been going through a hard time and that fic would really cheer me up xoxo ur the best!!!

As you stared down at the official form, you briefly wondered if you were making a mistake. Maybe, Diluc didn't want this..? You glanced at him and saw his face, unmoving, stoic. Your heart broke again. He didn't care if you stayed or left. He didn't love you the way you needed. You signed it. You were legally divorced.

6 MONTHS LATER
"Baby...... open pleas.e. the doooorrrrr! I need you!" Sighing, you made your way to the front door where Diluc was once again drunkenly knocking.
"What do you want, Diluc?" You could hear him slump against the door.
"Come back to me... we need a.. no you I mean you're m.." You didn't hear the rest as he mumbled but you assumed it was the same as what crap he'd been spouting the past several months. You were shocked the first time you saw him drunk, and were deeply worried. However, it just kept getting worse and now he was at your door around this time almost every night. In the past, you might have relished his attention, even like this, but you were looking for something real. You didn't want to be with someone who only looked for you when he was drunk. He never contacted you during the day, never looked for you, never even apologized. You assumed he was embarrassed or angry, but you didn't have the energy to care anymore. You'd spent so many years trying to pry open his shell that you weren't really sure he had one. That's why you'd left him. Other people in Mondstadt thought you were crazy. Leaving Master Diluc, leaving his money, his stature, just because you didn't feel loved. People scoffed, mocked you, whispered as you walked by. But even though he wasn't quiet, no-one ever mocked Diluc for drunkenly harrassing you. They murmured how callous you were, how cruel, to still be cold to him.
You flung open the door and Diluc tumbled to the floor. He was completely passed out. After dragging him to your couch and tucking him in with a blanket, you broke down and started crying over him.
"Please stop drinking Diluc... don't do this to yourself anymore..." You fell asleep holding his hand, sitting on the floor beside him. He was gone when you woke up.

ONE YEAR LATER
"Hello y/n. It's nice to see you again." Startled, you turned around and saw your ex-husband Diluc standing behind you in the market.
"Diluc, Hi. It's good to see you!" He was standing so far away from you, you had to raise your voice a bit. He stood awkwardly for a moment before nodding his head and starting to walk away.
"Diluc." He stopped immediately at your voice and turned back to you.
"I just wanted to say... I heard that you stopped drinking. I'm really proud of you." He stared at you so intensely that you wondered if you had said something weird.
"Thank you. I... didn't want to worry anyone anymore." He looked at you with that strange look on his face again, but turned away again and briskly walked off. 'He was asleep that night, wasn't he? Did he hear me crying for him? He never says anything. I'm not a mind reader!' Irritated, you threw some more vegetables in your basket and tried to forget the encounter. Behind you, Diluc turned back and watched you for a few minutes more.

5 YEARS LATER
"Diluc, hi!" Diluc, your ex-husband, turned as you stood in the doorway of the Cat's Tail. You were surprised to see him in any bar, let alone a different one from his own.
"What, um, what are you doing here?"
"I'm here for a meeting about distribution, and you?" You paused to answer, but before you could your fiancee Arthur walked up.
"Oh, Master Diluc, it's very nice to meet you!" You watched Diluc's face completely slacken and he stared blankly.
"Ah, Diluc, um, this is my fiancee, Arthur." There was a long pause before Diluc gave a short nod, and quietly walked out of the bar. You sighed heavily and massaged your temple.
"Sorry, Arthur, I didn't think he'd ever be in here."
"It's ok, my love, he would have found out eventually." You nodded listlessly, before stroking your stomach. You thought again, about Diluc, the enigmatic hero of Mondstadt, someone you used to love deeply and knew better than anyone. But still not enough. You allowed yourself to wonder what a baby between you and Diluc would've looked like. Perhaps it would've had his brilliant red hair. A pang in your heart forces you to stop the train of thought, and putting a smile on your face, you head to the nearest table with Arthur.

"Y/n. Nice to see you." You turn and face Diluc. You noted the light greys beginning to form at his temples and think of your own grey streaks.
"Diluc, it's been some time! How are you doing?" The two of you chatted aimlessly for a few minutes. He was still the same man you met and fell in love with all those years ago, you thought. And the same man you divorced.

TSCOSI Mini-Bang Fic 3 Release
A Perfectly Normal Totally Typical Cafe
The Rumor Cafe is opening on Milky Way and the crew was not prepared. As they struggle with maintaining and running the cafe due to their unexpected influx of customers, they look to hire. Enter Violet Liu, she needs a job so she goes in for an interview with her extensive resume. Violet gets hired and starts working at The Rumor, but she soon finds that The Rumor and its staff may be hiding more than meets the eye.

Chapter One
The Rumor Cafe had been open for an hour and the coffee machine was on fire. Krejjh was still serving coffee, the line in front of the counter stretched across the crowded store and out it. They juggled coffee cups between their four hands filling up cups and shuffling the order papers. Brian is huddled in the corner by the order receivers and trying to write down as many orders as he can. And though Brian is a linguist, studying languages isn’t going to do you much when fifty different people are telling you their orders, about five of which may have asked you a question. At this point, he was writing down as much as he could make out before frantically moving the order papers to the basket by Krejjh.
As soon as Krejjh had finished an order they would speedwalk over to the pickup counter and leave them for Arkady or Sana to deliver them to the customer. Sana was currently in a seemingly one-sided argument with a customer that kept insisting that “if this is a coffee shop why isn’t there a bowling alley?”
“Sir, I apologize for any disappointment, but we don’t have a bowling al—” Sana tried to reason with him, but he interrupted her.
“Okay, okay. Maybe the bowling alley was a stretch, but you at least have a giant python that grew legs giving out tango lessons.”
Sana was prepared to commit many crimes.
Arkady was left to wait the tables by herself, she would sprint to the counter, balancing as many drinks as she could safely carry on her tray and a few more. She would then blindly sprint out into the customer crowd shuffling the order papers, trying to figure out which drink goes where while dodging the mildly annoyed and confused customers.
All in all, despite their short-handedness and heightened probability of many accidents (and crimes), they were managing the flow of customers. That is, until the staff of the other coffee shop across the street, If Gnomes Ran, decided to pop in and check out the new (temporary) competition.
If Gnomes Ran was your classic ‘Large Corporation-Run “Local’’ Coffee Shop’. They worked under In Good Running (IGR for short), which also owned I Give Rup, I Gave Ryouallmymoneywhatelsedoyouwant, and I Got Radishes, a grocery store, clothing store and pharmaceutical respectively. The most important thing to know about them is that if you see them do anything morally wrong or illegal, no you didn’t.
It was in this rush that the employees of If Gnomes Ran entered the coffee store, skipping everyone else who was waiting in line to enter and orderly shuffling in through the door. Worker McCabe was left to hold the door open for all of them. What the staff of If Gnomes Ran didn’t see while scouting out the shop was Arkady sprinting right towards them carrying her tray filled to the brim with drinks and pastries. In fact, neither Arkady nor any of the recent visitors saw each other. And so, as Arkady was attempting to find table five she instead ran right into the entire group of visiting foreign employees.
The entire shop turned silent and turned to look at the group of sharply dressed If Gnomes Ran employees soaked and covered in many different kinds of coffee and pastries. A few of the customers didn’t notice and continued chatting for a few seconds before noticing the sudden silence and becoming quiet themselves.
The crackling of the coffee machine fire stood out against the shocked silence and it was only then that Brian realized that the coffee machine was on fire. He bolted over to Krejjh and motioned wildly at the coffee machine, completely silent as to not disturb whatever was currently happening. Krejjh was still frantically completing orders as Brian rushed over to the nearby fire extinguisher and put out the fire. There may have been a bit of foam in the orders Krejjh was making at the time.
Arkady looked up from the order papers she was still holding and stared blankly at the steadily glaring group of soaked If Gnomes Ran staff. Sana rushed over, steadily apologizing and rushing to hand them all towels, but the collective group simply turned and walked right back out of the door.
The coffee shop was silent and the closing door rang the bell and knocked slightly against its frame. Sana and Arkady were still stood right where they were as Krejjh continued pumping out orders and Brian tried to access the damage caused by the fire. Many of the customers were shuffling around silently trying to leave as to not get caught up in any issues with In Good Standing. One of the customers stubbornly waiting for their order coughed slightly, while not a loud cough by any means it stood out against the silence.
The cough seemed to bring Arkady back to the situation and she hurried over to the fallen mugs and pastries and began to clean up. Sana rested the towels she intended to give to the If Gnomes Ran staff on a nearby counter and knelt down beside Arkady to help. This broke the silence in the coffee shop and the chatter rose up from the customers once again. Brian abandoned his station taking orders to quickly deliver the orders steadily piling up on the counter. Krejjh had run out of space and was now attempting to precariously balance orders on top of each other.
The crew served the considerably reduced amount of customers left after the incident before beginning to close the shop early. Arkady and Sana returned the extra chairs and tables they’d brought out and straightened out the original tables and chairs. Brian and Krejjh were cleaning up the counters and general area around the coffee machines while discussing the dangers of fire and physics. After they’d restored The Rumor to its original, clean and orderly, state, they all sat around in the staff breakroom to discuss today’s events.
“So…” Sana began sitting at the head of the table, “That didn’t go as…planned, I suppose… but this is only the first day, and it was clearly an accident. The most we can do at this point is attempt to make amends with If Gnomes Ran and just continue with our plan.”
“This isn’t just any business we’re talking about here, Boss,” Arkady states simply from the other side of the rectangular table. “This is the IGR, everyone knows what they’re capable of.” The group sat silent around the table contemplating the possible repercussions from today’s incident, the only sound being the soft sounds of commotion from outside leaking in through the window.
“There’s nothing we can do about that. All we can hope is that whatever the IGR decides to do, it won’t interfere with our primary mission.” Sana says steadily, looking everyone in the eyes. “But something I think we can all agree on, if we’re going to continue this we’re going to need a few extra hands.”

I usually separate out docs and fiction, but I watched almost no documentaries this year (with the exception of Dick Johnston). Reality is real enough.
TV Series
01 - BoJack Horseman (final season) - Pretty damned poignant finish to the show, replete with actual consequences for our reformed bad boy protagonist (which is more than you can say for most antiheroes of Peak TV).
02 - *Hello Ladies - I enjoy the pure awkwardness of seeing Stephen Merchant try to perform being a Regular Person, but ultimately this show tips him too far towards a nasty, Ricky Gervais-lite sort of persona. Perhaps he was always best as a cameo appearance, or lip synching with wild eyes while Chrissy Teigen giggles?
03 - Olive Kittredge - a rough watch by times. I read the book as well, later in the year. Frances Mcdormand was the best, possibly the only, casting option for the flinty lead. One episode tips into thriller territory, which is a shock.
04 - *The Wire S3, S4, S5 - lockdown culture! It was interesting to rewatch this, then a few months later go through an enormous, culture-level reappraisal of cop-centred narratives.
05 - Forever - a Maya Rudolph/Fred Armisen joint that coasts on the charm of its leads. The premise is OK, but I wasn’t left wanting any more at the end.
06 - *Catastrophe - a rewatch when my partner decided he wanted to see it, too!
07 - Red Oak - resolutely “OK” steaming dramedy, relied heavily on some pretty obvious cues to get across its 1980s setting.
08 - Little Fires Everywhere - gulped this one down while in 14-day isolation, delicious! Every 90s suburban mom had that SUV, but not all of them had the requisite **secrets**
09 - The Great - fun historical comedy/drama! Costumes: lush. Actors: amusing. Race-blind casting: refreshing!
10 - The Crown S4 - this is the season everyone lost their everloving shit for, since it’s finally recent enough history that a fair chunk of the viewing audience is liable to recall it happening.
11 - Ted Lasso - we resisted this one for a while (thought I did enjoy the ad campaign for NBC sports (!!) that it was based on). My view is that its best point was the comfort that the men on the show have (or develop, throughout the season) with the acknowledgement and sharing of their own feelings. Masculinity redux.
12 - Moonbase 8 - Goodnatured in a way that makes you certain they will be crushed.
13 - The Good Lord Bird - Ethan Hawke is really aging into the character actor we always hoped he would be!
14 - Hollywood - frothy wish-fulfillment alternate history. I think the show would have been improved immeasurably by skipping the final episode.

The best songs of the 2010s: #100-76
Happy 2020! Now that the previous decade has finally finished, it’s time to commemorate the 2010s. The decade in which I grew from an awkward teen to an awkward adult. And a decade with a ton of great music. Let’s dive right in: these are my 100 favorite songs of the 2010s.
#100: “Monopoly” by Danny Brown (2011)
Danny Brown is so delightfully grimy. He’s like a cartoon sewer rat come to life, rapping about pills and making hilariously crude jokes. In an anti-drug PSA, he’d be the sketchy weirdo trying to get a kid hooked on bath salts or whatever. And for a quick shot of his non-replicable style, it’s hard to do better than “Monopoly.”
Rapping over a glitchy, menacing beat with his trademark squawk, Brown lands oddball punchline after oddball punchline. In a span of less than 3 minutes, he threatens to defecate on your tape (and he has to clarify that too — “No, literally, shit all on your mixtape”), compares himself to Ferris Bueller sipping wine coolers and then closes his track by describing a woman’s vagina as “smellin’ like cool ranch Doritos.” And that last insult is the perfect distillation of Brown: the Adult Swim of rap. But much smarter than that would imply.
#99: “Shutdown” by Skepta (2015)
At the 2015 BRIT Awards, Kanye West performed “All Day” with a massive crowd of grime artists on stage, all in black, with flamethrowers shooting fire into the sky.
Four days after the performance, Skepta — one of the artists on stage with Kanye — released “Shutdown.” It’s a much more fitting song for the intimidating, energized and proudly British crowd of MCs than a middling Kanye non-album cut.
“Shutdown” is the kind of song a rapper releases when they’re at the peak of their powers. Skepta was absolutely at that point in 2015, and so his finest single sounds like a coronation. His gruff delivery isn’t too loud, but it’s firm and confident. He knew he was the best MC in Britain, and “Shutdown” cemented that status.
#98: “Amor Fati” by Washed Out (2011)
Washed Out was one of the brightest voices in the turn-of-the-decade chillwave movement, and with cuts like “Amor Fati,” it’s not hard to see why.
The big single off his debut, “Amor Fati” gives you a similar sensation as taking a shower: Pure bliss and warmth cascade around you. It’s a bit repetitive, but the song is clearly meant to set a mood more than anything else, so that’s excusable. If you need an entry point into chillwave, you can’t do much better than this.
#97: “Los Ageless” by St. Vincent (2017)
St. Vincent’s trajectory this decade took her from an art-pop weirdo who collaborates with David Byrne to a more mainstream art-pop weirdo who collaborates with Taylor Swift. But in that process, Annie Clark was able to pull her sharpest hooks out and put them in use in deceptively dark songs like “Los Ageless.”
With its sleek new wave production from Jack Antonoff, “Los Ageless” could’ve easily fit on most pop records. But Clark’s atonal, shrill guitar bursts and increasingly disturbing lyrics differentiate it. The song’s themes gradually shift from “lol Los Angeles is fake and plastic” to something more tragic. The desperate (in a good way) chorus says it all: “How could anybody have you and lose you/And not lose their minds too?”
#96: “I Like It” by Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull (2010)
I’m aware how ridiculous putting “I Like It” — a disposable, trashy club pop hit most people might not remember — on this list. Admitting I that I love this song probably guarantees that I’ll never get a job at Pitchfork.
But then those fuzzy, cheap synths come crashing in. And Enrique Iglesias sings his sleazy come-ons in an auto-tune slurry. And Pitbull delivers a gloriously ridiculous, very-2010 verse that references both the Tiger Woods cheating scandal AND the Obamas (along with gratuitous Spanish and a Miami shoutout). And then there’s the final touch: a prominent sample of Lionel Richie’s cheeseball classic “All Night Long.” It’s too much to resist.
What can I say? “I Like It” hits all the pleasure centers (including nostalgia, seeing as it came out in the middle of my high school tenure) in my brain. It’s a beautifully stupid, hedonistic highlight of the 2009-12 pop golden age.
#95: “The Wire” by HAIM (2013)
Retro-pop standard bearers HAIM had plenty of great singles this decade. But one of their first, the groovy breakup anthem “The Wire,” is still their best.
Unlike many most breakup anthems, which tend to be wildly emotional, “The Wire” is matter-of-fact. The relationship simply isn’t working, and it’s time to end it. That’s that. You’re going to be okay.
The verging-on-curt lyrics mixed with the Haim sisters’ groovy early ‘80s rhythm makes for a pop jam that’s perfect for any “It’s not you, it’s me” moment in your life.
#94: “Helena Beat” by Foster The People (2011)
I know they represent the mainstream selling-out moment of the magical late-’00s MGMT/Passion Pit/Phoenix moment, but I have a soft spot for Foster The People. Their debut album, Torches, might not have much indie cred, but it’s all-killer-no-filler and stuffed with monster hooks. And despite “Pumped Up Kicks” being the big hit, I’ve always preferred the album’s opening track, “Helena Beat.”
With its shuffling disco beat and Mark Foster’s piercing falsetto, “Helena Beat” is likely about as close as alt-rock ever got to the Bee Gees. The lyrics, which tackle addiction, are much darker than “Staying Alive,” but it’s got a similar sense of propulsion.
And let’s not forget — Foster wrote jingles before starting a band, so he can get melodies stuck in your head. And once you’ve heard “Helena Beat,” good luck getting it unstuck.
#93: “Redbone” by Childish Gambino (2016)
“Redbone” might be the smoothest R&B cut on this list. Which is why the song’s sense of dread and paranoia makes it stand out.
Donald Glover’s scratchy, passionate falsetto isn’t conventionally pretty, but it works well while singing about some unknown boogieman who’s “creeping.” That’s why “Redbone” was a perfect fit for Get Out, because of its lurking dread underneath the comfortable exterior. This is the song that cemented Glover as being a true renaissance man, rather than an actor with a weird musical side project.
(of course, this still isn’t Glover’s greatest musical contribution — that would be the iconic “Troy and Abed in the Morning” jingle. Especially the night variant.)
#92: “Do You” by Spoon (2014)
Spoon has been America’s most consistently great rock band for the past two decade now. Even calling them “consistent” is practically a cliché.
So all you need to know about “Do You” is that it’s another solid Spoon song in a vast catalog of Spoon songs. Lead singer Britt Daniel is still effortlessly cool, the guitar-driven groove is simple and it all goes down easy. By 2014, Spoon had nothing left to prove, except how long they could keep up their streak.
#91: “I’m Not Part of Me” by Cloud Nothings (2014)
Cloud Nothings’ finest moment is four and a half minutes of pure angst and crunchy guitars. Squint hard enough, and “I’m Not Part of Me” is one of the closest approximations to ‘90s alt-rock. And while the Ohio band isn’t necessarily reinventing the wheel here, refining what made past music so great can be just as effective.
#90: “Hello” by Adele (2015)
Despite only releasing two albums this decade, Adele casts a major shadow over the 2010s. Although I find both those records to be a little on the bland side, there’s a reason she was/is a juggernaut. And the example of her prowess is “Hello.”
“Hello” has everything you’d want in an Adele song: It’s about not getting over a breakup, a very relatable topic, and Adele gets to show off her cannon of a voice. But it also has a secret weapon compared to other Adele ballads: ‘80s power-ballad production! The bombastic chorus has more in common with Heart’s “Alone” than any of Adele’s previous hits, and it’s a perfect accompaniment to one of the decade’s most melodramatic singles.
#89: “Slumlord” by Neon Indian (2015)
Despite putting out two essentially perfect albums this decade, Neon Indian’s mastermind, Alan Palomo, doesn’t really have that one mind-melting single. Yes, “Polish Girl” was a decent-sized indie hit, but it’s nowhere near his best.
But “Slumlord” comes damn close to perfection. It’s not quite as heavy on the melted-VCR aesthetic of other songs on Palomo’s best album, Vega INTL. Night School, but it makes up for that with an irrepressible ‘80s techno groove. “Slumlord” is one of those songs that could ride its beat forever — and it kind of does, with the “Slumlord’s Re-lease” coda following it on the album. It’s a nocturnal synthpop jam that even those allergic to keyboards couldn’t resist.
#88: “The Bay” by Metronomy (2011)
While most synth-weilding indie acts were trying to ape MGMT’s high-pitched fever dreams in the early ‘10s, Metronomy decided on a different, sleeker path with their 2011 album The English Riviera. That album’s best single, “The Bay,” is an immaculate blend of silky smooth yacht rock and nervy, tense new wave. Those two opposite styles shouldn’t work together, but Metronomy managed to pull it off regardless, creating the perfect beach anthem for awkward hipster Brits.
#87: “bad guy” by Billie Eilish (2019)
I expect the 17-year-old Eilish will likely be remembered more as an icon of the 2020s than the 2010s, as she has a long and promising career ahead of her. It’s like how Lady Gaga is much more of a figure of this decade, despite her earliest hits arriving in 2009. But “bad guy” — the kind of left-field, innovative pop single that signals a new era — came out in 2019. And it’s too damn weird, catchy and just plain fun to leave off this list.
#86: “Latch” by Disclosure feat. Sam Smith (2012)
It’s a bummer that Sam Smith turned out to be such a bore, because “Latch” — his introduction to the world — is pure electricity.
Smith and fellow Brits Disclosure, who provide the pulsating, sensual production, were a dream team on “Latch.” All Disclosure needed to do was give Smith plenty of room to unleash his golden pipes, complete with a few futuristic touches. Smith delivered on his end, proving his worth as one of the best vocalists for conveying drama on the dancefloor.
#85: “Need You Now” by Cut Copy (2011)
No, it’s not a cover of the Lady Antebellum hit of the same name.
There were plenty of ‘80s-inspired epic synthpop bangers this decade; some groups made their entire careers off of them. But what sets Cut Copy’s “Need You Now” above the rest is its sense of patience. It’s an incredibly slow burner, building the tension with a thumping beat and calm vocals until it all explodes with a dazzling climax nearly 5 minutes in. Af that moment, the Aussies fulfill their promise with a euphoric release of synths and thundering drums.
It’s not a complicated concept for a song, but Cut Copy executed it perfectly.
#84: “The Mother We Share” by CHVRCHES (2013)
Glasgow new wave trio CHVRCHES never really lived up to their promising 2013 debut album, which opened with the anthemic “The Mother We Share.” But man, what a way to start a career.
"The Mother We Share” is all icy synths and furious drum machines, the sounds bouncing off each other like a hall of mirrors. And lead singer Lauren Mayberry’s quiet but confident vocals add the necessary human touch, conveying a tragic feel to the song’s triumphant chorus.
#83: “Night Shift” by Lucy Dacus (2018)
One of the most ferocious, biting breakup songs of the decade, “Night Shift” is a showcase for Lucy Dacus’ vivid storytelling. The Virginia singer-songwriter spends the first half the song setting the scene of a crappy ex trying to halfway make amends, while Dacus’ character holds herself back from lashing out. She saves the visceral emotion for the second half, when the grungy guitars kick in and Dacus lets out a wounded howl, proudly stating that “I’ll never see you again/If I can help it.” “Night Shift” is a tour de force of indie rock songwriting that rewards patience.
#82: “Round and Round” by Ariel Pink (2010)
Much of indie-rock trickster Ariel Pink is a little too jokey and off-putting for my taste. But on his defining single “Round and Round,” he sprinkled in just the right touch of weirdness into a song that otherwise could’ve been a massive easy-listening hit in 1980.
The quirks throughout “Round and Round” — the woozy, off-kilter production, the lyrics that seemingly make no sense, Pink answering his phone in the middle of the song — are enjoyable. But the song’s true strength is in its chorus: a sudden punch of roller-disco AM-lite harmonies that cut through all the song’s oddities. It’s a double-shot of warmth and nostalgic beauty that feels comfortingly familiar, yet still thrilling.
Pink seemed to know the chorus was the key to “Round and Round,” as he makes the listener wait nearly two minutes for it. But its inevitable release is a truly magical moment.
#81: “4th of July, Philadelphia (SANDY)” by Cymbals Eat Guitars (2016)
Heavily referencing an early Bruce Springsteen classic in the title of a song that sounds nothing like Springsteen is quite the flex. But New Jersey indie-rockers Cymbals Eat Guitars pulled it off regardless.
“4th of July” is a clanging, anthemic scuzz-rock track about going through an existential crisis in the middle of Independence Day. While everyone else is making plans for the holiday, lead singer and guitarist Joseph D’Agostino is howling away, “HOW MANY UNIVERSES AM I ALIVE AND DEAD IN?!?” It’s one of the hardest-rocking mental breakdowns put on record this decade.
#80: “I Like It” by Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin (2018)
Rapping over extremely-obvious samples has been a time-honored tradition in hip-hop, from the Beastie Boys trading verses over The Beatles to Puff Daddy jacking the chorus from one ‘80s hit and the beat from another in the same song.
But Cardi B, and reggaeton superstars Bad Bunny and J Balvin sampling the boogaloo classic “I Like It Like That” was an inspired choice. The trio’s verses are all delicious fun, whether they’re bragging about eating halal in a Lamborghini or referencing a classic Lady Gaga hit.
But that sample, combined with a trap beat and Cardi’s swaggering charisma powering the chorus, is what makes “I Like It” a classic.
#79: “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles (2017)
Most former boy band members aim for a grown-and-sexy pop anthem once they go solo, whether its Jordan Knight, Justin Timberlake or Zayn Malik. But the standout member of the 2010s’ standout boy band, Harry Styles, chose took a sharp left turn into melodramatic classic rock instead. And it was a brilliant decision.
"Sign of the Times” is about as close to a classic Beatles or Queen power ballad we got this decade, with its clanging Western guitars, lush strings and thundering drum fills. Styles doesn’t have Freddie Mercury’s gravity-defying vocals, but his immense charisma powers the song anyways. It’s not 100% clear what “Sign of the Times” is about, but with its cinematic scope and cryptic lyrics, it’s likely about the apocalypse. And there’s not many superior songs to cry to while the bombs fall.
#78: “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn (2010)
The ultimate crying-on-the-dancefloor anthem, “Dancing On My Own” has already become a standard.
But Swedish alt-pop icon Robyn’s combination of icy synths and heartbroken, jealous lyrics can’t be replicated. Just ask Calum Scott, who slowed down the track into mushy, piano-ballad goop. Yikes.
What makes “Dancing On My Own” brilliant is its resiliency. It’s not a mopey song — Robyn is defiantly still grooving despite her crushed feelings. It’s a siren call for all those who have been hurt and know the only proper way to work out their emotions through cathartic dancing.
#77: “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap (2015)
“Trap Queen” is an incredibly fun hip-hop banger, but I don’t think I can extoll its virtues quite as well as Fetty Wap’s hype man at the end of the track. So I’ll let him speak:
“YOU HEAR MY BOY SOUNDIN’ LIKE A ZILLION BUCKS ON THE TRACK?! I GOT WHATEVER ON MY BOY!!”
Amen. It’s a real shame Fetty wasn’t able to keep his momentum rolling past a big 2015, but at least we’ll always have the magic dying-walrus energy of “Trap Queen.” HEY WHAT’S UP HELLOOOOO
#75: “R U Mine?” by Arctic Monkeys (2012)
"R U Mine?” offers Arctic Monkeys fans the best of both worlds. On one hand, you have their AM-era slinky swagger. But it also retains the furious rock-n-roll energy of their early days.
Alex Turner sounds like a smooth-talkin’ cowboy here, but the music is anything but smooth. It hits like a semi-truck, with a calvary-charge guitar riff and so many thunderous drum fills you’d think you were listening to the E Street Band.

Exploring Vietnam: Day 1 in Ancient Town of Hoi An, Vietnam
Vietnam - 7 days, 4 cities, 1 country. Vietnam is known from its coffees and noodles soups which we couldn’t miss during our trip there.
For Vietnam, we decided to visit Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue, and Hanoi. It was a series of transfers either from plane to plane or car to train.
Vietnam blog, same as the first travel blogs, will be divided into series of posts. DAY 1.1
JULY 21, 2019
PHILIPPINE AIRLINES: MANILA >> HANOI
July 21, 2019 - our flight from Manila to Hanoi, Vietnam was at 10:25pm with almost a 3-hour travel time via Philippine Airlines. Our plane fare for a roundtrip was US$ 144.60(PHP 7,519.2) each that includes 25kg of baggage allowance and an inflight meal.
There is a time difference of an hour between Manila and Hanoi.
Meals are always included with PAL. For my meal in the plane, I got Chicken with Java Rice, Macaroni Salad, Dried Pineapple, Butter, and Bread. The chicken was actually good and was made by Aristocrat. 😋
To our surprise, there was an extra dessert! 😍 We were given Avocado Ice Cream. Who doesn’t like ice cream, right?
DAY 1.2
JULY 22, 2019
We arrived at Hanoi, Vietnam at around 12:45am in Terminal 2 and stayed at terminal for a few hours before transferring to Terminal 1 for our next flight to Da Nang, Vietnam.
There were no shuttle service for terminal transfers during that time since it was in the early morning that’s why we booked a Grab instead. We paid for Grab with VND 50,000 (PHP 110) per car plus a toll fee of VND 15,000 (PHP 33.00) upon entry to terminal 1 for each car. We booked 2 separate cars since no one’s accepting our booking for the bigger cars/vans.
VIETNAM AIRLINES: HANOI >> DA NANG

DA NANG, VIETNAM
We claimed our sim card via Klook in Da Nang International Airport. Originally we are planning to get the unlimited data sim card at Hanoi International Airport, however, the operating hours of the booth conflicts with our arrival time.
Each sim card availed via Klook had 7GB worth of data and is good for 30 days. One sim card costs Php282. For the internet speed, it was actually good enough for watching YouTube smoothly, and fast enough to send and upload of photos.
LE HOUSE BOUTIQUE HOTEL, DA NANG, VIETNAM
Straight from Da Nang airport, we booked a Grab and went to our hotel, Le House Boutique Hotel.
It was so early for our check-in that we decided to leave our luggage, have breakfast, and go to Hoi An and go back in the late afternoon
We booked our room in Le House Boutique Hotel via Agoda that costs us a total of PHP 4,143 which includes a buffet breakfast for all of us. Our room was located at the topmost, the penthouse. It was a 3-bedroom apartment with each room, having its own shower and toilet area. Also, the apartment has a common area such as: living room, kitchen, dining area, and a balcony. You may check my room tour on my vlog at the end of this post.
KA CONG CAFE
We decided to have our breakfast to the cafe beside our hotel, Ka Cong Cafe.
I ordered their Boiled Pork with Steamed Rice that costs VND 80,000 (PHP 176). The meal was exactly what you will get as the name of the food says. It looks plain in a glance but was actually good especially when you eat the pork with their sauce.
Of course when in Vietnam, one must try all the coffee as possible. I tried their Sai Gon Coffee with Milk that costs VND 29,000 (PHP 63.80). The coffee was so amazing! It was a little strong but creamy!

HOI AN, VIETNAM

I ordered Cao Lau and the taste was amazing! The Cao Lau is Hoi An’s specialty dish. It’s a noodle soup and the water used in the dish must be from the nearby well.
I couldn’t describe what taste resembles to it since the Cao Lau has a very unique taste. It was one of a kind and a must try when vising Hoi An.
Beside the Cao Lau, I also ordered a refreshing drink of Lemon Juice for VND 20,000 and a large bottled water for VND 15,000.
After having our lunch, we went to nearest ticket booth for the entrance to the museums, old houses, etc. within the Ancient Town in Hoi An. A ticket costs VND 120,000/each which included entrance to 5 places.
Hoi An is known for its lanterns hanging everywhere in the ancient town. The lanterns were used before as to light up their homes and since of its beautiful designs, it was also used as decorations.
MUSEUM OF FOLKORE IN HOI AN
The museum includes preserved items used in their daily lives in the past. Artifacts displayed in the museum were at least 100+ years old.
OLD HOUSE OF QUAN THANG
The Qua Thang shop-house is one of the oldest houses in Hoi An. It is built by a Chinese merchant in the late 17th century.
TRAN FAMILY CHAPEL
The Tran Family Chapel was built as a home and a chapel.
We were a little disappointed for both the Old House of Quan Thang and the Tran Family Chapel. We were expecting really old houses with the furniture, and living areas still in their places. Though there were furniture still in their homes, however, bigger sections of the houses were made into shops. Some were even “irritated” that we didn’t buy anything from them.
The two houses were a “nice to see” places however, if given another chance, I would choose the other museums instead.
MADAM KHANH - BANH MI QUEEN
Tried the famous Madam Khanh Banh Mi! While eating, we saw that there were a lot of Grab Food orders for this place - that surely tells that it’s the best Banh Mi.
Since we were still quite full from the Cao Lau, we shared a Banh Mi for two people. We ordered the Mixed Banh Mi which contains vegetables, pork, ham, eggs, egg sauce, papaya, and cucumber. It was the actually the best Banh Mi I’ve tasted and would love to go back to Hoi An for the Madam Khanh’s Bang Mi! One order costs VND 20,000 (PHP44).
HOI AN MUSEUM
Next that we visited was the Hoi An Museum. The whole museum has 4 floors that displays all the relics and some old photos in Hoi An.
After visiting the museum, we decided to explore more of Hoi An.
Here’s the area where tourists floats little lanterns in water. (Which we decided not to do it since it may contribute to more pollution and deforestation since the lanterns were made from papers.)
JAPANESE COVERED BRIDGE
Visited the Japanese Covered Bridge but didn’t go inside since it was crowded.
HAINAN ASSEMBLY HALL
Last ticket was for Hainan Assembly hall. We didn’t know where to spend our last ticket and our friend wants to visit with anything that has dragons in it, thus, our last ticket was for Hainan Assembly hall.
Overall, Hoi An is a good place to visit to experience and taste their specialty dishes. It is place for people who loves lanterns, and collects antics.

Why you should be watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine
It's a long one, get ready.
•
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is an American police sitcom created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur. The series revolves around Jacob Peralta (Andy Samberg), an NYPD detective in Brooklyn's 99th Precinct, who comes into immediate conflict with his new commanding officer, the serious and stern Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher). But despite Samberg playing the lead, it’s not “The Andy Samberg Show”, and is nothing like the Adam Sandler type movies he’s usually seen in.
Produced in Los Angeles as a single-camera comedy, Fox originally ordered thirteen episodes for its first season, eventually expanding it to 22 episodes. All episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine begin with a cold open, although this may not necessarily have anything to do with the actual plot of the episode. Since its debut, the series has received critical acclaim, with the cast, especially Samberg and Braugher, being singled out for praise.
The show constantly speaks out against racism, homophobia (specifically gay and trans rights), sexism, police brutality, and the stigma against mental health issues; with all the humour steering entirely away from offensive jokes and stereotypes, instead relying on jokes that are genuinely funny and fantastic comedic timing.
Characters
Brooklyn Nine-Nine contains a plethora of multi-layered characters; and the main cast (7 characters) contains only 2 white men, one of whom is half Jewish, two black men, two Latina ladies, and one white woman.
Starting with Raymond “Ray” Holt (Andre Braugher), captain of the 99th precinct, an African American, openly gay, middle-aged man in the highest position of power on the show. Like all the characters on the show, his race or sexuality is never once the punchline to a joke. He cares deeply for his husband, and his friends in the 99th precinct and acts as a father figure to many (especially Peralta).
Next, we have Jacob “Jake” Peralta (Andy Samberg), a white half Jewish man who even though acting immature and unable to deal with complex emotions at the beginning of the series, grows into a mature adult who can express his emotions well and apologises when he messes up. Peralta is also portrayed as a strong feminist, calling out anyone’s ignorant behaviour. In the fifth season, Peralta also must learn to deal and cope with mental health issues.
Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), is a Latina woman in a position of power (especially as of late season 4 and onwards) who’s never once sexualised because of her ethnicity. Since the beginning of the show Santiago has dealt with anxiety in various extremes, but not once is this considered a weakness, just a part of her character; and despite being romantically involved with Peralta, never is she considered “just a love interest”, but a unique and complicated character in her own right.
Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio), is one of only two white men in the precinct, and his character relies heavily on his hobbies, such as a local food critic, sewing, yoga, and other traditionally non-masculine interests. He also has an adoptive son and an incredibly strong friendship with Peralta.
Then, we have Regina “Gina” Linetti (Chelsea Peretti), the epitome of self-confidence. Despite having a very close platonic relationship with Peralta, not once is she considered a “threat” to Santiago.
Terrance “Terry” Jeffords (Terry Crews) is the sergeant of the 99th precinct and African American. Jeffords is family man, with three daughters and a wife whom he loves. Not once is his relationship with his family considered to have “stripped him of his masculinity”. He also loves his work family at the 99th precinct, acting as a parental figure to them.
Finally, Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) is another Latina woman who isn’t sexualized for her ethnicity and is in every practical sense, a badass. Recently, it’s been teased that the character will have a female love interest.
Cast
Brooklyn Nine-Nine has one of the most diverse casts on TV right now, with only 3 of its 7 main roles filled with white actors, and the bisexual Stephanie Beatriz. Not once have any of its cast been known to have done anything considered “problematic” in the slightest.

Relationships
Brooklyn Nine-Nine portrays multiple close relationships between its characters. With childhood best friends, parental figures, ladies sticking together, a slow burn relationship, and a healthy gay marriage.
The most obvious relationship in the show is the romantic one between Peralta and Santiago, one that has been incredibly healthy and positive, with both characters supporting and caring deeply for one another.
Peralta has strong relationships with most of the characters on the show, the most obvious, after Santiago, is that which he has with Boyle. They have a strong platonic relationship that is never once considered gay by either the characters or audience nor does it “damage their masculinity”.
Another loving platonic relationship on the show is between Linetti and Peralta. The two have known each other since childhood, with Peralta even getting Linetti her job as a civilian administrator at the 99th precinct. Similarly, we see the relationship between Diaz and Peralta grow and in the later seasons, the audience can see just how important their friendship is to one another.
At the start of the show, Peralta is reluctant to show respect to Holt, thinking that Holt doesn’t know how he works and that he’s holding him back. But, throughout the show and its seasons, the two develop a strong bond, going as far as referring to the other as “son” and “dad”.
Another positive relationship in the series is that of Santiago, Diaz, and Linetti – the women of the 99. A prime example of this is when Diaz told Santiago that “You’re not the only girl at the table anymore. We work in a police force full of dudes. We gotta have each other’s backs, okay?”.
Though these are the most prominent relationships in the show, the beauty of these characters is that you could pair any two together for an interesting plot and it would still work. In fact, this is what the writers often do, with the characters in the A and B plot always mixing around.

"Honestly, the way I always read that kiss is that her feelings were genuine and that it was a goodbye. Sylvie is sort of where our Loki was in Thor. She’s driven by revenge, pain and anger, and that’s what he’s saying to her. He’s like, “I’ve been where you are, and I just want you to be OK. You’re not going to get what you want.” But she’s not there yet. On her journey of self-healing, she’s not where he is. So she’s not going to see it that way. ‘Loki’ Shows What the Marvel Cinematic Universe Is Missing: Romance - The Ringer
Exploring that theme through a love story between two different versions of the same being is at least a novel way into the concept, and a pleasingly perverse one. As Loki’s handler turned friend Mobius (Owen Wilson) points out, there’s no higher expression of narcissism than falling for yourself.
Except Loki’s crush is somehow quite the opposite. When the God of Mischief first learns that one of his own variants is terrorizing the TVA, his first instinct is to insist he must be “the superior Loki”—an egotism Mobius correctly bets will motivate him to enlist as a recruit, and that Loki eventually learns is a universal belief among all Loki-kind. But once he gets to know Sylvie, who’s been on the run from the TVA since she was a child, Loki gains the humility and self-awareness to understand he’s not the better half of their relationship. Sylvie’s had a much harder life and displayed much more grit and ingenuity in not just surviving, but posing a credible threat to one of the greatest powers in the universe. As much as Loki appears to be falling in love with his own reflection, it’s actually what sets him and Sylvie apart that ends up piquing his interest. (Those differences don’t have to include gender, by the way; a throwaway line in Episode 3 suggests Loki could very well have gone for one of his male variants, a twist that’s hard to imagine Marvel giving the green light to)

Tom Hiddleston Gets Honest About Why Loki Acted So Differently in the Finale - The Direct
"The experiences of five episodes have broken down, or broken through to him to something more authentic. And all of those performative aspects are defenses of some kind to keep people at a distance. His relationship with Mobius has changed him. His relationship with Sylvie has changed him. His relationship with Classic Loki, Kid Loki, Boastful Loki, and Alligator Loki, has changed him. He is in a very different place."
Revealing how the "fellowship and friendship generated" between Loki and Mobius specifically was "something...extremely new," the actor explained that his character gained a sense of care for other people that may even "enhance his power." With Classic Loki sacrificing himself and Loki expressing his desire for Sylvie to be ok, Hiddleston called this new version of Loki "more attentive and quieter" as he "is in new territory":
"The generosity of spirit in the fellowship and friendship generated between him and Mobius is something that is extremely new. And the understanding and actually perhaps care for others might enhance his power, as evidenced by Classic Loki. Classic Loki makes a decision at the end of episode 5 to save Loki…and Sylvie from Alioth, and in so doing enhances his power, and he loses, and they lose him. And also his relationship with Sylvie and his simple and simply expressed desire for her to be OK is really new, it doesn’t want her to get hurt. I think that’s honest. So yes, this more attentive and quieter Loki is probably someone who is in new territory.”

89. Do you like your age? Yes because I am almost an adult now and I am allowed to go anywhere I want by myself and go home late :D

I like my nickname Ries but my real name (Caries Ann Mae) nah, it's so lengthy and people always mispronounce "Caries" as "keh-riz" which means tooth decay rather than its actual pronunciation "kah-rees". And the meaning of my name is really lame so if I could choose, I'd rather want to be named "Ries Ann" :3 remove the "Ca and the Mae" XD
