gajeel lost metalica at a young age, and (i dont remember too much of canon but im pretty sure its implied he just kinda fucked around until phantom tropue picked him up which yikes) like this CHILD was on his own most of his formative years and then got picked up by a super shitty abusive group of ppl and he just LEARNED to blend in, like yea metalica made him kind of a punk but he was a KID so during those years he was alone he probably just closed himself off to survive and learned to prioritize himself over everybody else and to do that it takes a level of desensitizing urself to others pain

and like ok again im playing hard and fast with canon but i THINK its implied he like, had done a lot of bad shit with them or whatever right? like what he did to levy and fairy tail wasn't NEW, so when the events in canon happen and he ends up at fairy tail, in my mind that's the FIRST TIME he has to face how HIS ACTIONS DIRECTLY HURT SOMEONE

and not only thats but someone who OBJECTIVELY DIDN'T DESERVE IT

gonna link my juvia is a lesbian post here bc it sums up a LOT of my feelings on gruvia but the tldr is that my personal hc is that juvia is a lesbian with a serious case of comp het from trying to fit in with other kids growing up and it literally was just never corrected until she got to fairy tail and actively started to form friendships

the main reason i dislike gruvia is that it paints gray as the one who needs to change in order to accept juvias feelings and not just cuz he needs to grow as a person and learn to allow himself to be vunrable.

like grays arc doesnt ONLY center around juvia but its a big part of it and juvias growth CENTERS around gray and we can talk about the the borderline misogynist idea of having a female character whos damn near whole identity is her feelings for a man where she never grows or learns meaningfully but instead just very slowly chills out more so from being sidelined than growth but i digress i just dont like them

last is jerza,, i just dont like em,, jellal is really boring in my opinion and he had a lot of potential but meh? his redemption is neat and his history with erza has potential but i feel like the point of erzas arc is about growth and moving on and while i think her and jellal can still be friends and have each others back she still has so much healing to do after tower of heaven

idk i dont see a lot wrong with jerza i just feel like its a lil bland and not my cup of tea

and yes queer platonic nalu is my life id die for them actually and i have more stuff about natsus abandonment issues and how they carry into his relationships with ppl but imma stop bc this post is long jgkfhgdjhfdjk

Related to one of your ask, watching all of those WYB's and CX and other girls' interaction videos from their believers, makes me think if only WYB interacted with a female in the same way he did with XZ, they would have been ended in tabloid, people claimed them dating each other etc. It's obvious his attitude toward XZ is way too different from with how he treats other females (and males). But XZ being male, it's suddenly turned into default "friend/bro" zone 1/2

This also makes me realized, how hard it's to be his het shipper, to the extend where they ship him with any females he interacted with, including his married co-star (and that persistent rumor about him with the heiress he might not even familiar with), basically because they don't have convincing (het) choice. Remember when his pic with the female shop assistant was trending and WYB confused what's so interesting about it? It's kinda interesting IMO from psychology POV. 2/2

The first part of your ask basically sums up homophobia in c-ent very nicely. It’s clear that WYB and XZ don’t act like friend/bro so the only reason their relationship is “labelled” as such is because of their gender (although most cp fans thinks it’s romance and more and more solo fans have started saying they’re enemies instead of friends so not many people will even try to ride the friendship train anymore. It’s always interesting to me how solo fans can’t even claim they’re friends/bros....anyone want to take a stab at this?)

Also, I don’t think many (at least I’ve never any) of his actual fans “ship” him with the heiress. It’s only antis that talk about it and that whole rumor is an attack on him. As for his other ships, yes some fans ship him with the girls, I guess to fulfill some fantasy of theirs. Idk if you have other explanations for this? (Would love to hear more psych POV since I’m also a psych nerd.)

I think his interactions with the girls he’s shipped with (CX, ZLY, Joe Chen, etc.) are very brotherly and friendly, and I’m happy to see him have these friends. It’s funny to me that some shippers say he “keeps a distant” from these girls because he’s worried about gossip but he actually likes her [insert name]. It’s clear he’s capable of being friendly with them. Compare to him and XZ “trying to act like normal coworkers” during wbzy....ya....LOL Also, he got shipped with a lot of people during Produce 101 because people can sense that he was trying really hard to impress someone. Hindsight 2020 tells us yes, he was at that time...spring/summer 2018.......

Ok Ok this thing you’re reblogging. I think it’s called Dr Stone? Or someone in it is. What’s it about, why do you like it, should I watch it? It looks like a shonen with art I can actually stand so it’s got that going for it

Oh god where do I even start. Well first, if you want, @rainingskyguy‘s post here is a nice little summary of the series.

But from me….hmmm, well. I would say Dr. Stone is about a genius sixteen-year-old boy (at the start) with a passion for science who refuses to accept that the end of the modern era means the end of humanity’s legacy, and his ambition and determination and charisma end up pulling in all sorts of interesting people along for the ride.

This series takes place approximately 3700 years in the future, after all of humanity was turned to stone one day. The protagonist Ishigami Senkuu was of course also petrified, but unlike most of the rest of the world, he managed to force himself to stay awake for the 3700 years it took to break free from the stone. The world he emerges in is rightfully named “Stone World” because almost four millennia was enough for everything from buildings to tech to rust and crumble away, and for nature to reclaim the whole planet. Fortunately for Senkuu, he has pretty much all of mankind’s scientific knowledge memorized, and it helps him survive in the new world. It starts with making fire and stone tools and putting together traps to catch animals for food and building a shelter so he has a roof over his head, but as time goes by, Senkuu also decides that he isn’t going to let humanity stay stuck in the Stone Age and instead begins reinventing all the things that have been lost to time - stuff like gunpowder and electricity and ramen and glass, but also reintroducing concepts like hydroelectric energy and agriculture and aviation, etc.

Of course, one of the overarching themes is the mystery of the Petrification in the first place. Senkuu figures out how to free other humans from the stone (who unlike him, fell unconscious very early on and basically hibernated/slept for the past 3700 years), but the mystery of who petrified them all and how and why are still major questions in the series, and one of Senkuu’s goals is to figure that out, on top of bringing back all the history and advancements that humanity lost to time.

Along the way, he finds friends and allies to help him, some that he freed, others from a small pocket of civilization descended from the only six humans that weren’t turned to stone because they were stationed in space when it happened. But he also makes enemies out of people who decide that the Stone World is the perfect place to enforce their ideals on how they believe humans should now live. So, aside from the obstacles he has to overcome in order to find the necessary resources and make the necessary parts for his inventions, Senkuu also has to face off against various human adversaries who don’t want to see his “Kingdom of Science” succeed.

That’s basically the premise of this series, as objectively as I can make it without too many spoilers. Personally, the thing I love most about Dr. Stone though are the characters themselves and the interactions between them. Inagaki did a really really good job fleshing them all out and giving them dynamic personalities while also forming and strengthening the bonds between them. You might’ve seen me mention how easy it is to ship everyone with everyone, and I think a large part of that is because there’s so much focus on the friendships and families between them, without shoving a forced het romance at us. Like, the MC comes across as ace most of the time and gay almost all the time (seriously, the animation studio must all be SenGen shippers, you’ll understand if you watch it), but also the females aren’t completely useless or reduced to damsels in distress for the MC to save; they are badass in different ways all on their own. The few het romance pairs that do appear in canon are well done but never so in our faces that we start thinking this is a romance manga; it’s pretty much always background compared to the main storyline. The character development progresses naturally, even side-characters aren’t forgotten, and I absolutely adore how each of them come together and contribute their skills and achieve their goals. There are some very powerful scenes throughout the series as well, enough to really make you feel as if you’re in the moment with them. There’s one part where Senkuu is finally able to produce artificial light, and I can’t really explain the impact properly, you have to watch it to really feel it, but it was the first light in the dark on earth in over 3700 years, and the animation, the music, and the dialogue all contributed to make it an amazing awe-inspiring scene.

So anyway yeah, that’s… not even close to everything awesome about this series, but I’ll never be able to finish if I keep going. TLDR, definitely give this anime/manga a try. Like, I personally don’t really read manga, it’s never been an interest of mine, I usually stick to anime, but I’m already jumping around ahead, and as soon as season 1 of the anime is done, I’m definitely reading the manga from the beginning.

That’s my first time when I’m doing this but I had this idea for a long time so I’m trying. This is Star Wars Rebels/ Miraverse -don’t know what it is? Shame on you!” Here you have link. @meldy-arts . Fanfict set in the Last Airbender universe.There is a short description how it is.

* Ezra - Nation. Water Tribes. South Pole. His parents were waterbenders so they were taken away from him when he was a kid. He is extremaly powerful but has no master. Local thief and problemaker.

*Sabine- Nation. Earth Kingdom . Kyoshi‘s island. Not a earthbender. Wanted to fight on the war and escaped with Ketsu to do so. Escaping she brought a shame on the family and can’t go back to the clan. Hired blade, the Ghost crew member. Favorite weapon -Two short swords.

*Hera. Nation. Water Tribes. North Pole. Not a waterbender. The tribe’s laws were not for her so she left, pissing her father off and started to fight on the war, commanding a small but really fast ship Ghost stolen from the Fire Nation fleet, with her loyal polar bear dog Chopper. Favorite weapon- fists.

*Kanan. Nation. Air Nomads. One of thelast Airbenders. He has been hiding in the Earth Kingdom, working as a smugler, then meet Hera and teamed up with her. During a small mission in the sounth one kid have stolen a freshly stolen weapon from him and the kid sounds a bit lost, and needs a master.

*Zeb. Nation. Earth Kingdom. Earth Bender. The Elite Earth Guard commander, the unit has been decimated by the Commandor Kallus elite fire unit. Found and saved by Hera and Kannan on the sea. The crew’s muscles.

*Ashoka. Nation. Air Namads. Former Air nomad, currently freedom fighter. She is looking for all the last Airbenders and everyone who can help her fight her arch nemesis The Great Fire Admiral and old -before the war- friend, Barris.

*Chopper. Nation. Water Tribes. Small, polar bear dog. Knows the ship better than anyone, exept of Hera, love to steals Ezra’s and Zeb’s shirts and stuff, especially when they are close to the South or North pole.

*Kallus.Nation. Fire Nation. Not fire bender, but really skilled warrior. Former commandor of the Fire Nation Army. Have been chasing the Ghost Crew since the Sounth Pole but after one batlle when Zeb saved his life decided to join the Resistance. Weapon. Earh nation Spear.

*The Grand Inquisitor. Natio. Fire Nation. Fire bender. Mission was to hunt down all of the last Airbenders and kill every other benders he will meet. Can’t return to the Fire Nation until do it. After chasing the Ghost crew all around the word finally team up with them and help them to beat the fire lord.-cough*Zuko*cough. But dies soon after that. :(

*Darth Vader. Nation. Fire Nation. Crazy powerful Firebender. The great Admiral of the Fire Nation Army. Has only one mission. Counquer the World and Kill every non fire benders. For the Glory of the Fire Lord. (Admiral Zhao)

*Seventh sister Nation. Fire Nation. Strong blue Fire Bender. Crazy Fire nation assasin. The Fire Lord’s favorite assasin. The only purpose in her life is to become the Fire Lord. cough*Azula*cough.

*Fifth Brother. Nation. Fire Nation. Fire bender. The muscle guy. Seventh Sister’s loyal ‘friend’ partner in battle,

*Eight Brother. Nation. Fire Nation. Fire bender. The martial art guy. Seventh Sister’s second loyal battle ‘friend’.

*Rex, Wolf, Gregor. Nation. Fire Nation. Old Fire nation soldiers. Deserters. Joined the Earth Kingdom’s Army and the Ghost crew.

Ezra and Sabine get married, have three kids. Mira, Rona, Johan. (Maybe will be more in the future;)

Kanan and Hera get married and have three kids. Jacen, Dawn and Kai, (Also could be more;)

Zeb, Kallus, Ashoka, Rex, Wolf. Are building the Republic City.

*Most of their after war time the Bridgers have spend on the South Pole or on the Kyoski Island but with time their slowly moved to the Republic City where Hera is in charge of police and everything.

Mira Bridger. Nation-Who cares! Water bender. Really powerful. Ezra have taught her everything he knew and she left to the Republic City to work with here. On her first day on duty she have been saved by a non bender guy who soon become the new Ghost crew member and more. Then more and not so nice things started to happen but if you think that she will just leave the City only because the things are hetting worse. Think Again.

Rona Bridger. Nation. Doesn’t matter. Earth Bender. Crazy powerful. Moved to the Republic City together with Mira and her family where she meet a lot of great friends and one annoying fire bending kid.

Johan Bridger. Nation. Art. Non bender. very handly with swords and brush. In tRepublic City have meet the cutest water nation girl ever and the most cocky fire brat ever.

Mikah Coen. Nation. Non. Not bender. Live in the Republic City like ever. Gladly showed the Bridgers where they can find the best mechnic in the city -her dad- and is spending most of the time horsing around with Rona and Race.

Helina Lassar. Nation. Water. Not bender. Born in the Republic City. It was crazy interesting to see a half water and half earth kid. She is spending most of her time with Johan, but like to spending some time with others.

Kori Kitt. Nation. Non. FUTURE Air Bender. Born in the Republic City. During a regular day of selling things in his grandmother shop he saw a girl fighting with three mob’s gangsters. He helped her and then agreed to join her crew, working for the city’s police.

Dager Rekan. Nation Fire. Non firebender. Former mob’s hitman. Have been send to kill Mira and the others. Got his ass kicked. Got out of prison for ratting out the mob. Annoying, but deadly loyal, hot headed guy. The nickname dude. Made up a nickmane for anyone. Johan is JB. Helina is Helly. Mikah is ‘WOW’ Rona is ice queen etc. Currently. Hera’s student/ assistant, kid she need to keep an eye on. Hate his name, love his car and friends, but mostly car.

Lieutenant Logen Striker. Nation. Fire. Not bender. Race’s father. Hera’s lieutenant and second in charge in the Republic City police. Ex criminal. Want to be a good father and husband. Ezra’s new drinking buddy.

Addena Mamba. Nation. Earth. Not bender. Rona’s and Mikah greatest enemy. Hire assasin,at least ten years older than Rona. Silk haired tramp with the biggest cleavage in the City. Favorite weapon, her hips, posions and long spear.

Darth Hass. Nation. Darkness/Red Lotus. The powerful firebender who tried to kill Mira and make Ezra supper. After a long and deadly fight Ezra finally caught the guy and put him in a ice prison. Now is waiting for his minions to prepare the Republic City for his return. Beware. Be very afraid. The Darth Hass will kill everyone in the Republic City and make the Bridger Family suffer.

Endless Waltz Rewatch and Review

I promised I would, so here it is. Like the other one, this one is going to have notes taken throughout because that way I can make sure I’ve covered everything.

The opening is always a little wonky. The stuff about the 13th constellation etc etc etc doesn’t make sense without background that we’re not given. In short, there’s whispers of a new mobile suit model. That’s really the easiest way to sum it up.

Also, even young me used to side-eye the scene with Releena and the colony leaders. It STILL comes off as being way more suggestive than it is.

Mariemeia’s voice acting is still 100% perfect. She’s so off-putting. Love it.

“My father entrusted me with these christmas presents.” okay idek if he’s actually your father at all, though, and if he is, The Audience already knows that can’t be true. Treize dedicated his whole life to The War To End All Wars so why would he do that. You have no idea, you’re ten. Noin and Sally~ Noin and Sally! So good.

Releena is immedately skeptical of Mariemeia because she’s met Treize and she’s like rly r u for rl It’s glossed over a little but another good line from Duo “If you leave him alone, Quatre is the kind of guy who will take the blame for everything. I wouldn’t be surprised one day if he says his lack of effort is the reason there’s no air in space.” He’s right though.

Duo’s fondness for Deathscythe is so nice, and also the animation for the special edition is... great actually? Everyone’s relationships to their mechs are really interesting.

I like seeing the backstories. A lot of this stuff is sort of implied in the series but it is nice to see it expanded upon.

Mariemeia makes her speech and you don’t get to hear Une cursing but Ii can imagine it when she says who she is. No one can call her on that faster than Lady Une.

Showing how Quatre gets Sandrock is neat, but it raises more questions than it answers. I wish they would have done his history with the Maguanac’s instead. I read it in a manga one million years ago, but seeing as I still remember it, well, it sticks with you.

“I find that I cannot quietly sleep in my grave while Trieze’s spirit is still roaming among us.” Translation: Y’all are slandering by best friend’s name and I will not stand for that shit even if I have to raise myself from the fucking dead.

Wufei is usually on an opposing side to a lot of the pilots and their ideals and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Too often we default to just believing the heroes, so I think he does a fair job of pointing out that they might be wrong.

The romantic relationships are all really low-key in Wing, where they’re hinted at all. There’s enough female characters for het ships, but ya’ll know that wasn’t how we rolled back when the show came out. Heck, for some of them, it’s not how I roll now. The interpersonal relationships in the show (between the pilots, their enemies, and even some civilian characters) are never really talked about but are all very interesting.

Zechs played dead for a year and showed up again and Noin joins him on the battlefield to a mutual sense of relief. This is how it should be, this is how its always been, they’ve been fighting together since they were at Lake Victoria and nothing feels more natural, more right. Une still asks Treize for advice although she knows he isn’t there to answer. The easy, friendly relationship between Duo and Heero is comfortable and hilarious (who could imagine them being friends at all? but they make it look natural). The quiet understanding that Quatre and Trowa have is never spoken about, but demonstrated consistently though their actions.

I’m a sucker for characters and relationships and Endless Waltz, like the series, nails it.

“Let’s only take the weapons, and war itself, ALONG WITH US TO HELL.” Duo you’re the most quotable person and tbh I’ve quoted this for years. That one and ‘If you’re joking that’s cruel but if you’re being sarcastic that’s even worse.’

“How much longer do those kids intend to retaliate against me?” Dekim did you not pay attention for the last year, none of these people have any chill literally none at all

I love the parallels between Releena and Treize. Same goals, different ways of doing it, but they highlight how much their personalities and their dedication make the difference. Also Hello Dorothy. I’d be happy enough not to see her, but she does show up just to dish out some sick burns. She seems to have her shit together a little better now, and is acting more directly. She’s more likeable for it.

Not that complex characters can’t be likable, but seeing as she was so hard to pin down in the series it was really hard to understand or care about her.

We see a lot of how Noin, Zechs, Quatre, Trowa and Duo are excellent fighters, not that the series ever let us doubt it. Wufei, for as much as he has the same skills, isn’t in this movie for how good he is in combat, though. He’s here to try and wrap his head around what to make of his life now that the war is over. It’s a struggle that likely Heero and Trowa also face, not to mention everyone left over from OZ, but he’s the one who brings it to the forefront, It’s not a bad role for him.

“See for yourself just how powerless you are.” “Roger that.” Now, he didn’t say ‘fuck you’, but he meant fuck you, you get me? How did Une get in to the locked down building? Who knows. She’s magical. We don’t care.

“It is not the victor that moves the heart of the people.” Again, GW bringing it home that the war isn’t the point, the people are the point. That’s why Treize was so loved (IS so loved), why Releena is so important, why the gundams are the symbols that they are.

Treize has been dead for a year, but his ideals and his love are so insistent that Dekim is killed by one of his own men in Treize’s name. His decisions might have been awful, but he was one hell of a guy.

Heero ‘symbolically’ killing Mariemeia makes sense kiiiiind of. Who she was is dead. She’s no longer Mariemeia Kushrenada... she’s Mariemeia Barton, and will be happy to live a gentler existence than the one she was raised in.

“I will never kill anyone ever again. I don’t... have to, anymore.” Coming from the guy whose been killing people since he was a smol, that’s saying something.

The end screen of the gundams shows them all alone EXCEPT Sandrock, who is with the MC. I really like that touch.

The ending shots all show the pilots going their own ways but Young Mouse and Old Mouse agree that they kept in touch. It’s hard when you share that kind of experience with someone to just let them go. No one understands them as well as the other pilots, so although they may not talk all the time, they are never alone. Heero would be the hardest to track down but c’mon he isn’t hiding that hard.

Okay so, to sum up... Endless Waltz is completely context-less without the show. Its definitely made specifically for fans of it, and that’s okay. But it does mean it can’t just be picked up and watched... you’ll get really confused. But as for quality, my answer is probably pretty predictable. It’s an old anime, and while Waltz looks slick as fuck for how old it is, you can still catch it in spots. There’s less Naval Gazing here, there’s less time for it, and all the philosophy and politics that are brought up are worth something. Also, we get to see all of our friends again and to get a real ending to their story. Except Treize. Now, my bitterness aside as a fan of his, the fact that he is missing is noticeable. Just like in the show, going through time without him has a strange feeling to it, because his influence is still felt everywhere.

Waltz gives us some of the best of these characters and distills some of the best of the show. I don’t really have a lot of complaints, as much as I would love to be critical of it. Explosions in space? Explosions underwater? Space Empathy TM? But in the end, none of those things really break the feeling of it. It’s a good adventure, and to this day it makes me glad to have been on it.

so last night people were sharing stories of how they became larries and i thought i’d make a big (emphasis on big) ol list of them because i found them really fun to read

I've been a 1D fan since 2013 and my sister and i always thought that l&h looked so good together but only the bromance and we're like "omg larries destroyed their friendship poor eleanor 1!1!1!", then in 2015 the "i'm gay pretty unfortunate isn't eleanor ?" happened and i was like WHAAT???? and i ended up searching more and more about larry (bc it was the only thing that came to my mind) and i found the videos and then i told my sister and then here we are.

I became a larrie because someone in my dash who rarely post about 1D posted the first louis/fred pic and tagged it babygate. So I went looking into the tag and found everything. I had doubt but then i saw the moment where H touch L arm and i was in! I actually became a fan of the music after. I've done everything in reverse with this band! But when i entered the fandom in feb2016 and i was hopping to see it all end like a month later! But hey, still here! And loving it mostly! End it!

it was 2011 and my friend told me she had found a really good song and the singers were so cute, she showed me wmyb video and i spent the whole day listening to it and then in the evening i wanted to find out more about these 5 guys. i started watching video diaries ans i was looking for the next one but i accidentally clicked "best larry moments" video aaand the rest is history

i saw the daddy daddy cool tweet and was like dude that's the wrong type of daddywtf? & I hadn't heard about a pregnancy? then a week later I had read the treatise and had a side blog and watched all the freddieismyqueen videos & was in way too deeeep lol. I've never been around when they weren't on the break even, I'm so confused about how I got here but now I can't escape 😝I had never even listened to their music before but then I also did that and was like damn they're so good?!

I just remembered going out once and being quite tipsy when DMD video came on so I pointed to Louis and Harry and said 'they're in love, but shh nobody can know' and one of my friends looked at me with a WTF?? expression on her face and said 'but I thought that was common knowledge'. Mind you, she still doesn't even know their names, let alone anything else. That was around the time bg was still a fresh wound and I'll never forget it bc it was so nice to hear it and also my hangover was a bitch.

I got interested in 1D right after their last concert, like right on Halloween. I became a Larrie that very same day too, right after i read Dan Wattpad's infamous "Harry and Louis hate each other". I saw articles floating around saying how they were enemies, reason for Zayn leaving...blah blah. I was sceptical, then i came across the famous OTRA hug, and i was like, no fucking way they hate each other, not with how they are hugging. I then delved into YT and discovered freddieismyqueen. Bless.

I joined july 2014 (2 months after they 've passed my country ouch) and was instantly hooked because this shit is like crack. 1) Sorry if I came off as rude or attacking you, that wasn't my intention, but I just think that calling shinoyama 'queerbating' is simply not correct. Yamagi's feelings for Shino were hinted at as soon as in ep 4 of s1, when he outright asked if Shino liked girls - girls specifically (why would he be interested in Shino's orientation if he wasn't intersted in him personally in the romantic sense?), then were made clear in ep. 7 with the heart grab scene and then further reinforced later on, by

2) showing Yamagi's evident disdain/jealousy every time Shino mentions girls etc. It was very obvious from the beginning that Yamagi is gay for Shino, so the only question left was whether Shino would ever find about Yamagi's feelings and reciprocate, to which episodes 45/46 gave us an answer. The 'let's drink till morning, the two of us' WAS, in fact, Shino's explicitly asking Yamagi out romantically. It just couldn't have been anything else in that context, when we know for a fact that Shino

3) does consider going out for drinks, two people only, as romantic (again, the AkiLafter scene in ep. 41, and Shino's 'don't you know what that is? go with her alone'). And then there's Yamagi's reaction - the wide eyes and the 'quit joking around, you don't even know how I feel' (plus his confusion about 'how Shino felt' later on when he talks to Eugene) which made it clear that's exactly the way it felt to Yamagi as well - as a date invitation, except he couldn't know back then that Shino was

4) serious. But Shino WAS serious - the fact that he grabbed Yamagi's hair out of his face to look him straight in the eyes before asking him out was a clear indicator of how serious he was. He wouldn't have given Yamagi false hopes otherwise, while being perfectly aware of Yamagi's feelings for him. And it's not only that, the entirety of Shino's body language towards Yamagi in all their scenes together in ep 45, his fond expressions, the looks and the smiles that we'd never seen on him

5) before that, the gentle tone of his voice, him calling Yamagi scary with evident fondness (it's actually a common motive in anime, to reveal that a manly man may not be afraid of enemies, war etc. but he's always afraid of his spouse), everything about those scenes screamed that Shino knew about Yamagi's feelings even before the big reveal and was totally on board with them. Ep 46 basically confirmed what was already obvious, that in the end, they both had romantic feelings for each other

6) and had Shino not died, they'd have ended up together eventually. They're basically as canon as an IBO couple can get and their not getting a happy ending doesn't make them any less canon (technically there's still a chance Shino could turn out to be alive, as they literally went out of their way to not show us his body). As for the other potentially queerbaiting couples, I don't think that orumika, gaeein or makugae are meant to be interpreted as romantic (even though I ship all three).

7) As for Aston/Takaki, in their case I do interpret them as romantic without a shred of doubt in my mind; after all, there was a canon blushing and Aston promising to protect Takaki and his happiness was a clear-cut romantic trope, and they just seem like your typical Gundam couple, but I guess it was probably too early to establish that explicitly in canon, as Aston was most likely not ready yet to realize what his feelings for Takaki really were. Anyway, they fit into the pattern of s2's

8) policy of killing romantic couples off (followed by Naze/Amida, akilafter and shinoyama, and maybe Mika/Atra/Kudelia in the nearest future). But that's just Gundam for you, to destroy a love before it has a chance to bloom. It doesn't really qualify as queerbaiting to me, as they do this to hetero couples just as much. As for Gundam 00, I don't think that anything has been confirmed when it comes to characters' sexualities and such, but it was easy to figure out from the context. I've seen

9) a post in the general tags listing all the characters considered to be LGBTQA, so, from the top of my head - most of the named innovades are gender-neutral, from what I've gathered, with the exeption of Anew and Ribbons, I guess? The situation with Tieria is more tricky than that, though, as it's been made clear in the show that he identifies as a man, and that's how basically everyone sees and treats him; it's been also said a few times in the show that only men can be Gundam pilots and

10) I think it's about the physical build rather than how someone identifies (thus the theory about Nena Trinity being, in fact , an actual trans-girls; I've read it once on tumblr and it made a lot of sense within the story, but I can't find the post anyomre; I guess the blog has been deactivated), but then the official materias list Tieria as gender-neutral too, so it's really hard to tell, especially given the fact that Tieria has the means to produce spare bodies for himself and probably

11) decide their gender as well? So yeah, the whole situatuon with Tieria is as unclear as it can be, but one thing clear is that he identifies as a man in canon and is canonically in love with another man (Neil) even if he can't classify those feelings yet (as his letter to Lockon would suggest). I think it's safe to say that Lockon is bi; he says something about being nice to women in the show once and he clearly feels something special for Tiera (that even Feldt has noticed) and calls him

12) cute etc. I think it's safe to say Lyle is bi as well, as he literally hits on Tieria in the beginning (only to be immediately shot down, because there's already one Lockon in Tieria's heart). Setsuna is pretty much considered to be asexual (but not necessarily as aromantic, as he clearly feels something for Feldt in the movie). Alejandro Corner is gay; he's explicitly shown to be sleeping with Ribbons in the Special Edition compilation movies. There could be more, but it's hard to remember

13) everything on the spot (I should try to look fot that masterpost in the tags; hope it's still there). As for other Gundam gay couples I personally consider canon, there's Trowa/Quatre from Gundam Wing and Dearka/Yzak from Gundam Seed. Oh God, this turned out so damn long and now I'm feeling bad for bothering you and making you read all this, but those Gundam discussions are always so compelling (hope tumblr doesn't eat any of the messages; I had them saved just in case though).

Don’t worry about it; I’m always happy to discuss Gundam! Admittedly, I don’t get as heavily into Gundam as I’d like to; 00 is my favorite series, but I’ve only seen the main 50 episodes, not the movie(s). As for other Gundam series, I’ve only watched the original, Unicorn, about 1/4 of Wing, a tiny bit of Age and Reco, IBO, BF, BFT, and F91 (IBO and 00 being my favorites of what I’ve watched). I’m going to try and address every point in this, feel free to shoot another message if I miss anything important!

Admittedly, in the beginning I didn’t pay attention to IBO while I was watching. I tend to have a one-track mind when it comes to anime I like, and when I’m obsessed with one, I usually can’t bring myself to care about another, so I didn’t pick up a lot of things.

ShinoYama is, in my opinion, the least queerbaity ship in the entire Gundam franchise; I’d go as far as to say it’s completely canon, and honestly, I feel like it’s the closest we’ve gotten to a gay ship being treated exactly the same as a het ship. Yamagi obviously had romantic feelings for Shino, and Shino didn’t seem to consider it out of the question. Had he survived, I actually think they might have gone canon. Sorry if it came across as me dismissing ShinoYama as queerbaiting; I think they’re the closest we’ll ever get to representation!

It could be me caving to heteronormativity, but I feel like AkiLafter was made more explicit than ShinoYama in the “he’s being asked out on a date” department. It was handled similarly, but I still get a different vibe from it. I could be wrong, though!

Body language and wording are always a part of ships in series like this. And I feel like they were all leaning towards romantic in ShinoYama; they were heavily implied to like each other romantically. But again, it’s always just implied. None of the explicit kissing and “I love you”s that you get with things like Lyle/Anew and Naze/Amida.

I abandoned MakuGae pretty early on once Ein was introduced, so I don’t know a lot about what hints may have been dropped. And Ein and Gaelio weren’t around each other long enough for anything to be solidified. Orga and Mika, however, I feel are at least slightly indicated to have feelings for each other; it may be completely platonic, but there is such a strong emphasis on all the times that they hold hands, if one of them had been female it would have automatically been considered to be canon, even with the MikaKuuAto situation going on; which I could talk about for a long time, but in short, it’s pretty much canon, though with the KuuAto being a bit more subtle than MikaKuu or MikaAto (I am acutely aware of how Kuudelia said she loves Atra, though; that’s not something I can overlook, I’m just comparing it to the explicit MikaKuu kiss and Atra’s request to “have babies with” Mikazuki). MikaKuuAto is an entirely different subject that I’ll save for another post.

Aston and Takaki were very much hinted to be romantic. All the tropes were there, all that was missing was explicit confirmation; and there’s not a doubt in my mind that we would have gotten that had they been a straight couple. My issue with all of this, if you can call it that, is that the het ships are always made more explicit than the gay ones, however “canon” the gay ones may be. The only problem in my mind is that so many het couples have been made concretely canon, while the only gay one we’ve gotten is ShinoYama. And though there’s an equal amount of killing off between them, you’re still left with more living het couples than gay ones. Equal killing of love interests is like the difference between equality and equity; if you take an equal amount from someone with everything and someone with almost nothing, that’s technically “equal”, but the person with less inherently loses so much more than the person with everything.

I admit it’s been a while since I’ve watched 00, so I don’t remember much about it. Nena being trans isn’t something I ever picked up on, so it could have been made more clear. I definitely headcanon most of the Innovades as some form of nonbinary, but I always based “canon” for that around what pronouns are used for the characters; and in all of their cases, it was always he/him or she/her. With Tieria, it was mostly a headcanon spawned from the episode where he crossdressed to infiltrate that party, and how easily the female form and voice came to him; hell, on Wikipedia’s “List of transgender characters in media”, Tieria is listed there. Later in Season 2, though, he’s portrayed as being a cis male, so that somewhat threw my headcanon of him being a trans boy out of the window. I also heavily headcanon Regene and Revive as trans boys, though solely because of their voices. Really, though, the pairs like Regene and Tieria or Anew and Revive; they’ve been stated to share the exact same genes, so in same-gender pairings, neither or both of them are trans, and in different-gender pairings, one of them has to be trans.

I do think it’s implied that Tieria loved Neil, but again, it was never made as painfully explicit as things like Chris and Lichty, Anew and Lyle, Naze and Amida, etc etc. Tieria obviously cared a lot for Neil, and never really got over his death; but I still feel that it was never made as clear as those other ships whether the feelings were platonic or romantic.

As I never saw the movies, I didn’t know about the thing with Alejandro and Ribbons; if that’s a thing that happened, then I definitely have to see the movies. And though I never fully watched Wing, I did pick up on something between Trowa and Quatre, but still; Never hinted at as much as Heero and Relena.

re: voltron s5-8

- Ah, yeah, there were a lot of plot holes and unbelievably convenient coincidences going on to keep the story rolling. But I’m not going to be talking about that just because there are so many and it’s the type of thing you must handwave to enjoy the show and I’m okay with that.

- Lotor family drama was pretty great. I’m glad we got the great, horrible filicide/patricide battle. Like, damn, it was great. And Lotor lighting the pyre at the Kral Zera was also very hype. Still not as great as him terribly rejecting Haggar/Honerva. I’m not sure all of these threads were seen to the best conclusion given how hype they all were individually, but I’m in general pretty glad with the way Lotor’s villainy happens and gets revealed to the crew. The honest feelings and affection for Allura getting flipped into ‘if you won’t go along with what I say, I’ll kill you’ was pretty frighteningly believable to me.

- Axca’s endless roulette of deciding who she’s going to align herself with today was also pretty great. I like that moment when her, Ezor, and Zethrid all are like ‘okay no’ to Lotor’s mad rambling and try to bail. Quality.

- Haggar/Honerva might be my favourite character in this canon though (competing with Lance and Coran) I like how competent she is, and how much we see of her personally struggling with the changes in her psyche after being affected by the quintessence. The choice to change her back was really excellent, and I love what it brought out in her, and I hope we get to see a lot of her in the final season.

- Monsters & Mana episode was really amazing. I’m sad it wasn’t the real Shiro playing - but it was still so IC and so fuckin hilarious that he kept on playing Paladin. Best episode.

- Gameshow episode was also good - Pidge’s run of the minigolf course in particular. But it can’t really compete with Monsters & Mana. A low point of it for me was Keith choosing Lance simply because he didn’t want to get stuck with Lance for eternity. Cold bro.

- The timey wimey stuff wasn’t too bad, but it was one of the contributors to what I felt was pretty uneven pacing. I kind of feel like we should have seen some of the stuff with Romelle and the stuff with Keith and his mom and the space wolf first hand, instead of rushing through a lot of it and then presenting the rest of it in flashbacks.

- Not so much the moment everyone was talking about, but The Black Paladins was really emotional in the end. idk like, as frustrating as it is seeing Keith be terribly reckless and consistently willing to sacrifice himself to save Shiro and everyone else, I do feel like it had payoff in the final scene of the episode. hit me hard for those times my teachers/coaches stood up for me. Yeah, Keith- if only you’d stop giving up on yourself.

- Uh, bruh, Earth isn’t in the centre of the Milky Way Galaxy. It’s all the way over to the side on the edge of the spiral. You guys seem to be headed in the wrong direction.

- This show really be overestimating how much I care about the extended Holt family. I think it got off on the wrong foot with the kind of overemotional bait & switch regarding Matt. But there’s also the issue of Pidge getting really reckless and inconsiderate whenever they’re threatened and putting them above everyone else which is... very real and understandable. But at the same time it’s kind of frustrating to watch, especially when the first thing I know about them is they make Pidge act this way before I’m given any reason to know or care about them.

- And I know it’s really just a coincidence, but how Admiral Sanda was handled really rubbed me the wrong way, especially how the other woman she’s (unintentionally?) juxtaposed against is Coleen Holt. Like, first you have this dutiful mother and wife who waited on Earth for 3+ years for her husband to return and she doesn’t stray at all and welcomes him back and supports him in every way he needs. And then Admiral Sanda is this woman who’s actually has rank and power and she’s constantly being vilified and told she’s unfit for her position by all the men working around her. And these are the heros and villains in Sam Holt’s story. When I think about it, there might not be a single woman on this show who’s actually at the top rung of the leadership hierarchy who’s not misaimed or evil. And, yeah, that kind of bothers me a bit. I mean, obviously on an in-universe level, Sanda is a pill. But on a meta level- You get to her death scene. And that she’s, like, the only person who the show actually lets die on screen in the fight to save Earth, as part of some death equals redemption arc... Like, it’s unrealistic and idealistic how many people didn’t die on this show - and that’s fine bc idealistic kids’ show - but Sanda is an acceptable target. If only she had listened to the men who were her intellectual superiors, boo hoo. It felt really obnoxious to me all around.

- Allurance lost some points with me. I still ship it, which is more than I can say for about 90% of the other relationships for this canon/fandom, but I’m decidedly more meh about it now. I know Lance is just a teenager and all, and it’s not out of character or something I couldn’t see happening, but the narrative going along with stuff about how ‘none of the other girls are like her, she’s just so speshul’ is the kind of thing that irritates me. As for Allura responding to Lance’s feelings - it was believable to me given a lot of the pieces that were put in place - but I think more time should have been devoted to following Allura’s feelings and thoughts through the whole of season 7, both in regards to this ship and otherwise. I see why other people say it felt rushed.

- And Axca/Keith is a cute battle couple, you guys are just bitter.

- Buuut, I totally think ppl have reason to be bitter. I don’t know exactly who all was responsible. And I know the creators apologised, and I don’t think they should have had to, necessarily. But, at the very least, some of the marketing decisions here were queerbaiting. The show has gone out of its way to market itself to its lgbt+ audience and fans and has created a lot of hype around Shiro and the show being gay aaaand, we got some subtext, a dead ex-boyfriend, some evil lesbians, and two strongly hinted het ships with the show’s major cast. Yeah. Even though I like those het ships, I get the bitterness.

- And... I think there’s a marked difference between the way the narrative treats Adam and the way it’s treated the other Paladin’s loved ones over the course of the show. Like, god, we’ve gotten so much of Pidge’s family drama. We got a whole episode of Pidge crying over Matt being dead when he wasn’t even dead. We got a lot of Hunk trying to come to terms with not being able to see his family at the Garrison this season. We got quite a bit of Veronica this season, and have touched on Lance missing his family since season one. Keith got several episodes about his mother and the lead up to and effects of his father dying. Coleen Holt waits for Sam Holt to return from space. But with Shiro we get this breakup and then Adam dies and it’s brushed over in a couple of minutes? Like, I’m not saying Adam shouldn’t have died necessarily, or that Shiro’s relationship with Adam shouldn’t have been on the rocks. I’m just saying it’s hard to really divorce this from the fact that the relationships straight ppl have are societally valued so much higher than the relationships lgbt+ ppl have, and this show isn’t really disagreeing with that in terms of what it continues to show us. And, like, I’m not angry and don’t really care all that much, like- I stopped looking for mass media to validate me in this way a long time ago. And I prefer to see myself represented in media through angst as opposed to nice, happy relationships anyhow. But, like, I’m tired of hearing that people /shouldn’t/ feel upset or betrayed by this, lmao. Like, yeah, there are totally valid reasons for people to feel that way. And it’s not like feelings even need to be validated to be there and deserve respected anyhow, smh.

- But, yeah, I’m serious. I’m over the moon about Ezor/Zethrid and I love them so much more than I could have possibly loved any heroic gays. I hope we get a lot of them being their wonderful selves and living to tell the tale next season :’)

- Hunk/Shay is also still good and quality.

- Also, this isn’t really a failing of Season 7, so much as just my preference but- I kind of wish the show hadn’t moved back to Earth. Because one of the major draws the show has for me is the weird alien culture exploration aspect of it. Without that it’s just kind of one string of ‘intricate plans to overthrow Galra -> intricate plans fail and the enemy seizes the upper hand -> heroes come through with a way to take back the upper hand -> enemies come up with a way to seize the upper hand back’ and so on and so forth in a ridiculous escalation of who can turn into the biggest dumbest giant robot and save the day from arbitrary time limit the fastest. And, like, I realise a lot of fans are here for the giant mech battles but I am so not. So I hope we get away from the ultra militant save earth stuff soon and get back to weird worldbuilding shenanigans soon <.<;;
