#this is about horse by geraldine brooks#this book is so bad#it’s about slavery but the main character in the 1800s timeline is an enslaved boy who#while yes does not like being enslaved. obviously. does love his job and would be doing it even if he were free#would do it for free even#it very much gives well not all slavery was as bad#especially bc there’s a bit where he has a different master for a while and is made to pick cotton#and literally goes oh well this is terrible but i don’t have it that bad#geraldine ma’am i really don’t think this is doing what you think it’s doing#and then there’s a present day timeline which really truly sounds like she’s just learned racism is bad#it’s so heavy-handed and caricaturised#and then she also tried to squeeze like seven different issues in there as well#also the writing is boring and bad who gave this lady a mf pulitzer#shush emma
