#I love their relationship#also this emphasis on Mary trying to do things how she thinks Captain Marvel would do them#and then her being distraught when she realized she messed it up and ‘didn’t do it like Captain Marvel after all’#reminds me of the part of the latest New Champion issue#where after the fight didn’t end well Mary was wondering if she were Billy if she would have solved the mystery by then#also the premise behind this story ‘The Training of Mary Marvel’ interests me#it ends with Mary being invited to her cover feature at Wow Comics#when Freddy has his first appearance in Whiz Comics before his cover feature at Master Comics#there wasn’t a story dedicated to Captain Marvel training him#that also served as an advertisement for his cover feature in another comic series the way this one does#but that origin story was notably a part of a crossover storyline between Whiz and Master Comics#and of course Freddy was the first spin-off character from a superhero character ever#I see the existence of this story not as some sexist neccesity that Mary would need training where Junior didn’t#but as part of the evolving form of comics and Fawcett improving the process of introducing selling spin-off characters#it’s also noteworthy that Billy and Mary aren’t that tonally different#whereas Freddy exists in a darker and more serious world then they do#so a story of Captain Marvel training Junior wouldn’t really work#dc#fawcett comics#marvel family#mary batson#billy batson#my posts#comic panels
