I'm thinking a lot about the scene on the Revenge where Izzy is singing La Vie en Rose and Wee John is performing as Calypso in drag to the crew. And how everyone is celebrating and embracing each other for who they are. Olu and Archie and Jim are dancing and just being cute in their little polycule. Ed and Stede are glued to each other. There is so much queer love and room for everyone to express themselves as they are. And then it all comes crashing down when Ned and his crew fire canons into their ship. And this scene just really struck a cord with me because it feels very much like a metaphor for the threat of violence that queer people live under. And how our safe spaces are constantly being targeted.

But what is more powerful is that Stede and the crew come together to get rid of Ned. And in turn help Ned's crew find freedom from his terror. And what does the crew of the Revenge do? They get right back up and continue to celebrate. Izzy sings La Vie en Rose and everyone joins in at the end. Roach sets off fireworks. This crew lives, fights, loves, and breathes for each other. And when someone crashes their pride parade, they fight back and they stand up. I just think it's a really beautiful metaphor for the power of found family and queer strength and I can't stop thinking about it.

Also Wee John doing his makeup and explaining it to Izzy with some hesitancy, some defense. He isn't sure if Izzy will be accepting, but Izzy immediately takes interest and doesn't mock Wee John for doing his makeup/drag. And that is beautiful, too.

I'm sure there's more to be pulled from that scene but just wow !! What a fantastic episode.
