Went out at 8 – Looked about at the end of Bloody fields, just above the end of the old bank, where my father last year led the remains of the old pit hill to fill up the hole left by the old road to Wakefield – A very good job – 

Then down the old bank to Mr. Brigg’s – About 1/2 hour with him – Left him the draft of Mr. Scatcherd‘s lease to read over, to be as economical as we can – Not for the present to wall off the piece for planting in Pump lane – Messrs Sunderland and Drake have ordered a gate to be hung at the top of the lane, and my father last year put up one at the bottom – To buy the little bit of waste near Dumbmill, but not to wall it off as yet – Would rather not build for George R– [Robinson] if he can make Ibbotson’s cottage do – 

Mr. B– [Briggs] wishes me to lay something by to pay Mrs. Firth – She drinks and may not live very long and then the children will want the money – Mr. Freeman would do anything to accomodate me – Will take ￡1000, but seemed nevertheless as if he would rather I kept it – 

From Mr. B– [Brigg]’s took a file to Miss Kitson’s to be washed etc. Seeing the Saltmarshes’ door open, inquired after them, Mrs. S– [Saltmarshe] at home – Went in – They have got as governess Miss Vicars my old teacher at the manor school – Went into the school-room to see her and the 3 children (girls), then hearing Mr. W– [William] Rawson was very ill walked with Emma to inquire after him – 

Then took a little turn on to the moor for about 1/2 hour, and went back to the S– [Saltmarshe]s’, and in about an hour had breakfast (tea etc. etcetera and a very good breakfast) – At 12 by my watch (1/4 too soon) E[mma] S[altmarshe] and I went and called at the vicarage – Told Mrs. Musgrave my call was meant for her tho’ I had something to say to Mr. M– [Musgrave]. 

He agreed not to take the trees – I said perhaps he might be enabled to take 2300 yards instead of 2000 – Would he try a subscription on the opening of the church? Would hardly like that – We agreed to stake off tomorrow (told the vicar we should measure off at 9 in the morning if he wished to send anyone to measure for him – I should be there – He said he should perhaps go too) 2000 and he might for the time vail it off, and we would also stake off 300 yards more that he might afterwards take if he chose – 

For I could give him a receipt for this additional quantity let it be walled off, and there would be an end of it – The church, he said, would not be done (completed) of 2 years – Explained my wish to do everything handsomely, and we seemed mutually well satisfied – He has done a good deal at the vicarage – Laid out about ￡1000 – Very comfortable house now – Mrs. M– [Musgrave] en famille – A good sort of person who does not appear to have seen much of the world – Thought cold in her manners –

From the vicarage, E[mma] S– [Saltmarshe] at Miss Burnett for her subscription for our late vicar’s 2 sisters (I had declined subscribing on account of living out of England but gave a ￡1 note). I walked about – Saw Miss Sarah Knight and then the Misses Sarah and Grace Mellin – My old schoolfellow Mrs. Holme, gone to live at Naples – Said if the Misses M– [Mellin] would, when they know her exact address, send it to my sister (she would send it to me, and I would call on Mrs. H– [Holme] if I went to N– [Naples]. Very civil to them – Said I would have called, had I had time but much engaged – 

Going immediately – E[mma] S– [Saltmarshe] and I then called and sat a little with Mrs. Veitch – Then called with E[mma] S– [Saltmarshe] on Mrs. Wilcock and inquired (and to inquire) after Miss Pickford – Then in returning called on Mrs. Kenny – Left my name on E[mma] S– [Saltmarshe]’s card – Parted with her at her own door at 2 – 

Very glad to have had me. Talked confidentially about the misunderstanding between her mother in law and Mr.  and Mrs. Philips. All right now. It seems the old lady in fault. Hottish and capable of saying, in any case, what she may be sorry for afterwards. Has often done it, even to Emma – All living in the same house did not do the servants, first began the disagreeables. I did right to go. In fact, I am so civil I seem getting popular.

Went to Mr. Parker’s – Explained about having been at the vicarage etc. etc. Perhaps 20 minutes there – To sign the agreement at the vicarage at 12 on Saturday – Up the old bank to the Willey hill pit – Holt had been in measuring about 4 hours and would be 2 hours longer – 

Looked about a little and walked leisurely to George Naylor’s – He was rolling a field of very nice just sown down with seeds – Walked up and down by the side of the roller, perhaps near 1 1/2 hour – Womersley came up, and asked if I would sell him the stone in the 3 days work field belonging to the little Marsh farm – What per yard – Why 2/6 – No ! Must wait till it was worth more – Not inclined to sell more stone now – 

George went with me to look at the field – Old Joseph Hall too old to farm very well, but his son a hardworking man will do very well – Balmfirth’s farm a better than upper place, but he farms so ill – Sold off a great deal of hay last year – Will not work himself nor let anyone else work – The son would do much better – 

Talked about Southholmland – Hemingway had improved it very much, but made a deal of money out of it – Asked George to take a peep at it, and tell me honestly what he thought it was worth – He will go with me and look at Northgate land on Friday – I to be at upper place at 3 p.m. – Mentioned the circumstances (telling him not to tell) of Lower brea – He agreed that especially after so much money (￡1000) having been laid out it ought to be worth ￡3 per daywork – 

Speaking of Northgate land, this G– not a good farmer – If manure had been just laid on customary to value it at ￡5 p[er daywork, if laid on a year called 1/2 tillage, and 50 /. [shillings] per daywork, and 1/4 tillage if laid on 2 years, and in 3 years the value 1d [pence] to be worn out – For lime, if laid on one year, customary to deduct one 3rd of the value, 2 years two thirds – 3 years worn out – 

It seemed the tenants (especially Hemingway and Balmfirth) all laughed at their good work in getting my uncle to return to them so much during the late panic – Told George he had behaved handsomely never to ask for anything, and I should not forget this – He knows he is in favour – 

He said he made bold to say he had heard I was married (astonishing how current the report) – I said I knew nothing of it till I heard it, and had no intention of marrying – Returned down Barraclough lane – Called at Mr. Samuel Washington’s, told his wife to tell him to be at Northgate to measure off at 9 a.m. tomorrow – Then called at Lower brea for a moment told George R– [Robinson] to come at 7 p.m. tomorrow returned along the walk and got home at 6 1/4 – 

Dinner at 6 1/2 – Letter from Miss McL– [MacLean] Edinburgh. The sooner I go the better – After dinner told my father and Marian my history of the day, then wrote out the whole journal of the day – Fine day – Went up to bed at 10 20/60 –

Chapter Title:  Blooming in the Sunrise

Summary: Virgil likes plants, but when he goes to investigate a plant his friend, Remy, tells him about, he doesn’t exactly check out the plant. Little does he know that the handsome man he meets there is a fairy who is about to challenge the world Virgil knows.

Patton sat at the base of the sequoia, watching the sky become lighter. This was his favorite part of the day. Birds happily chirped to one another, the early morning dew made the grass almost sparkle, and even the sky turned magnificent colors. Of course, Patton wasn’t paying too much attention to it today. He was picking at the bottom of his dress.

It was his favorite dress by far: it stopped at his knees and when he wiggled, the dress would move with him. It was a pretty shade of blue. It had been the dress he wore when he had met Logan, and eventually Roman. His wings were hidden away with just a dash of magic so that anyone looking at the young fairy wouldn’t know that he wasn’t human. Even Patton’s giant circle glasses had received special care for this meeting: a nice polishing and deep cleaning from a flustered Logan.

He wanted to make a good impression on this human, not just for himself but for LoLo. He loved meeting people, but Logan had fallen hard for this human, so Pat wanted to make sure that he didn’t mess with that for the socially-awkward scholar. Pat smiled, thinking about how Logan had gushed about this intelligent boy. At least until a voice cut through the calm morning.

“Remy, I swear! I’m not dropping however much on some shirt I’d wear only once when I could use that money on expanding the greenhouse. Yes, I am aware... No, I do not care about your hurt fashionista ego. I am not contributing to your caffeine addiction either, Remy. I got to go... No, I don’t see anyone… I’m done listening to you whine, that’s why! Talk to you later.”

Virgil groaned as he turned his phone onto vibrate. It was too early in the morning for Remy to be griping about his wardrobe. He sighed as he looked around. Patton was very aware of the human but remained hidden on the other side of the giant tree, suddenly nervous to meet him. Virgil became focused on the tree though.

“Oh no, I didn’t see that yesterday.” He said softly to the tree, moving over. “Of course, I didn’t see much other than… Whatever, that’s not important to you, huh, big guy? Let’s get rid of some of those dead bark scraps so you can heal properly.”

Other than some scraping sounds, it was fairly quiet. Virgil started to hum, finding the silence to be a bit unnerving. Patton found himself falling for this unseen human already and quickly realized just how badly Logan had fallen for him as well. Patton was almost terrified to show himself now, for fear of the other not liking him.

“There we go. You should heal a lot faster now, old guy. I may even have some yummy fertilizer for you. Let me see.”

Patton’s heart was a mess. Of course, this being has some fertilizer for some random tree!

“Oh, um… Hello?” the voice pierced Patton’s thoughts.

Both look over each other and realized that they were screwed. Patton realized just how accurate Logan had been; Patton’s heart was thundering as his eyes took in this very attractive human. On the other hand, Virgil was wondering just how many more hot men were going to randomly appear on this random hill and why is this was his life and whether this was all some elaborate plan by Remy and/or Dee.

“Sorry! I was lost in thought! You must be Anx! LoLo told me about you! I’m Pat, he/him!” Patton jumped to his feet, excitedly.

“Uh… Yeah… Nice to meet you, Pat.”

Pat hummed cheerfully as he moved a bit out of Virgil’s way. He caught the silent message and continued to sprinkle the fertilizer around the giant tree. He knew it wasn’t much for such a huge tree, but it would be a little bit of help, at least. Yet, his thoughts were running, wondering how much this hot stranger had heard him say. He was used to speaking to plants, but most people thought it was odd.

“I can hear your thoughts from here and that makes it official. I am now adopting you and will physically fight you if I hear one more negative thought from that head of yours.” Patton stated, arms folded and a small pout on his face.

Virgil couldn’t stop the laugh that escaped him. “You sound like one of my friends, Emile.”

“If I sound like one of your friends, then you must be used to it and so I will go full-on dad mode and fight you for thinking badly about my child!”

“I wish you luck with that, Pat.”

Patton could still feel the negative thoughts coming from the human. All he wanted to do was to yank the guy into a tight hug, wrap him up in his wings and cuddle the anxious bean until the thoughts were gone. Yet, Patton couldn’t do that as Logan had told him that he had made no indication that this poor human had walked straight into a fairy circle and was dealing with actual fairies.

What he could do was distract him, though. “Lo told me that you were looking for a plant! Do you know what kind it was? There isn’t all that much to look at up here.”

“Oh… right…” this man is going to be the end of him. “One of my other friends told me that they saw a purple flowering plant up here.”

Patton hummed as he plopped himself on the ground in front of the grass. “Come, watch!”

Virgil’s brain didn’t even think about questioning the request. He sat down on the ground right next to Patton. The fairy fought to keep a squeal in as he pointed at the patch of grass they were sitting in front of. Virgil carefully leaned in and looked over the plant, as Patton looked over the human.

Almost as if the sun were waiting for Virgil to stare at what appeared to be grass, the first tendrils of sun escaped over the horizon. Patton’s heart may have skipped a beat seeing a couple early beams of light touching this mysterious human’s face, but he wasn’t about to let that worry him as Virgil’s mismatched eyes went wide. Before their eyes, the strands of grass bloomed into beautiful purple flowers.

Patton could hear the human muttering. “What is that, kiddo?”

Virgil jumped before relaxing. “Oh, sorry. Wait, kiddo? I’m not a kid?”

Patton couldn’t help but giggle. “You’ve already forgotten that you’ve been adopted? What were you saying?”

“Oh…” Virgil went bright red. “It’s just some things I’d like to note about the plant later in my journal.”

“Ohhhh… Like what?” Patton asked curiously.

“Just things like this plant having Photonasty movement, height, things like that. Bartram’s Ixia is fairly rare; it’s in fact listed as an endangered plant species… but you probably aren’t interested in hearing about the specifics. I’m just a weirdo who enjoys studying plants.”

“Hey, kiddo, what did I say about that negative thinking?”

“Uh…”

“That I will physically fight you for thinking badly about my child!” Patton giggled. “I know I am not as intelligent as LoLo, but I do love learning and I also love plants. I’ve been watching over this little plant since its first bloom here. I’d love to hear specifics about it! LoLo said you were an incredible teacher when you taught him about those cool mushrooms over there!”

Virgil went bright red hearing that but decided to focus on the fact that didn’t send his poor gay heart into a frenzy. “You’ve been watching over these flowers?”

“Yup.” Patton popped the ‘p’ proudly. “They bloomed a couple of weeks ago for the first time and when I asked Lo about them, he did some research and found out that they are dying out, so I’ve kept an eye on them!”

“Oh…” Virgil shifted awkwardly, before suddenly asking. “Since you’ve been watching them, I guess I should ask you if I could study them then?”

Patton blinked, before smiling at him. “Of course, you can, silly! Anyone who wants to protect pretty flowers should be able to study them! Lo said you wanted to take them to someplace where you could keep them out of danger.”

“Well, that would take a little bit of time as I would have to have clearance from the government first. Stuff about ensuring that I have the facilities to properly care for them, no ill intent in tending to them, that sort of thing. If you would rather me not start that process, I totally understand. You’ve been watching over them so it would be wrong of me to do something that you wouldn’t like.”

Patton knew it was a bold move, what with the human panicking and them being strangers, but he reached out and gently pulled the man into a hug. Virgil was shocked but something about the hug felt right. Almost like home in a single person. Patton ran his hand up and down the human’s back, waiting for him to calm down.

“I… uh… Sorry.” Virgil finally said, sitting back.

“Nothing to be sorry about, kiddo! Sometimes everyone just needs a nice hug!” Pat answered. “Now, if you wanted to study the Ixia, you might want to get started! They tend to close up before lunchtime. And while you study them, you should tell me a bunch of cool facts! This way I can go and show LoLo that I can learn things!”

Virgil knit his eyebrows at this as he went to grab his bag. “Does Lo think you aren’t smart?”

“No, he says that RoRo and I have our own intelligence, but Lo is absolutely brilliant! It’s sometimes hard not to think you aren’t that smart when talking with him. He has his heart in the right place though, so it’s OK.”

“RoRo?”

“Oh, Ro is Lo and my third partner! He’s very interested in meeting you, Anx! LoLo was super excited telling us about your discussion yesterday and anyone who can make our precious nerd chatter like that has to be incredible! I should probably warn you though, RoRo can be a bit much. He’s passionate about things he cares about and that tends to be shown in loud bursts of love. One time, Lo was upset about something, I don’t even remember what it was anymore, but Ro’s idea of making things better was publicly trying to fight whatever it… OH! Right! Lo was furious at something he’d read! Ro was shouting in the square for the person who hurt his love to step forward. Lo finally threw the book that angered him at Ro and Ro promptly burned the book.”

Virgil chuckled, which Patton decided he needed to hear at least three more times in the next ten minutes alone. “Great, you three are starting to really sound like my group of friends. Dee has dressed up in some fancy lord costume before just to be able to dramatically pull his glove off and swat me with it for suggesting we get tacos over hamburgers.”

The two of them continued to talk and joke as Virgil gathered physical properties abut the flower. He showed Patton some things that he said he would tell Lo. Patton pulled the stops out of his dad joke and pun repertoire, thrilled to hear more laughs from this man. Not that the other would know, but Patton and Virgil were falling deep for each other. Virgil had the unfortunate ache in his heart knowing that the two men probably weren’t interested in adding someone into what sounded like an already extra group of people.

“Shit…”

“Language!”

“English.”

“Anx!”

Virgil laughed before moving. “I accidentally caught you in the picture.”

“Let me see!”

Virgil turned his camera to the excited man. Patton saw his silly self peeking out from behind the flowers. It was a nice picture of him, but that wasn’t what his eyes decided to focus on. He was shocked to see just how in love he looked while talking with this human. It was the look Roman’s dad insisted showed that how he felt towards Logan and Roman was different from other beings. Obviously, Virgil had to have noticed and now obviously thinks Pat strange.

“Hey, if I’m not allowed to think negatively, neither are you,” Virgil said. “I can easily delete it. No proof of whatever caught your worry.”

Before Patton could come up with anything, Virgil pressed a couple of buttons and showed him a message saying ‘item deleted’. “See, no issue. Sorry for getting ya.”

“It’s no problem, and I didn’t have an issue with having my picture taken,” Patton answered quickly. “It was just a passing thought. Hard to not pause when you notice something about yourself that you wish you were a bit better at hiding.”

That caused the man to pause before quietly saying, with his eyes looking away. “I don’t think you have anything you should hide, Pat.”

This time, Patton couldn’t help but squeal and yank his new friend into a tight hug. Virgil just laughed as he accepted his fate.

3: what random objects do you use to bookmark your books? - Usually a post it note! Not very random, but it's normally what I have on hand. 

4: how do you take your coffee/tea? - Depends on my mood! Sometimes I'll take my coffee black, other times ill add a fricc ton of creamer, whipped cream, and sugar. Also sometimes I mix coffee with hot chocolate and it's amazing. 

5: are you self-conscious of your smile? - Very. 

6: do you keep plants? - Always. I still have the carnations from Valentines Day (which surprisingly haven't died yet) 

7: do you name your plants? - Nope. 

8: what artistic medium do you use to express your feelings? - just a mechanical pencil or a graphite pencil. They usually end up being sketches. But if I like how it looks I'll go over them in pen. 

9: do you like singing/humming to yourself? - Yes and no? I'd do it more often but I don't want anyone to hear me. Especially my mom. 

10: do you sleep on your back, side, or stomach? - Side, always facing the wall. 

11: what’s an inner joke you have with your friends? - The only one I can think of off the top of my head is *slap slap slap* *jumps out window*. No I will not explain. 

12: what’s your favorite planet? - Pluto! Or Make Make. Make Make used to be my favorite because me and my brother would pronounce it wrong on purpose. But Pluto is ver pretty. 

13: what’s something that made you smile today? - seeing my brother's reaction to his birthday present from me! I made a little felt monkey with bushy eyebrows (I needle felted it) 

14: if you were to live with your best friend in an old flat in a big city, what would it look like? - Probably very messy. But also it would constantly smell like food! 

15: go google a weird space fact and tell us what it is! - Mars is shrinking. It is Smol. 

16: what’s your favorite pasta dish? - Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp! It's what I usually ordered at Olive Garden until I found out that it was expensive and was probably stressing out my parents. 

17: what color do you really want to dye your hair? - Don't laugh okay but pink! I want to dye the bottom half of my hair bright freaking pink. Like hot pink. 

18: tell us about something dumb/funny you did that has since gone down in history between you and your friends and is always brought up. - That time I slapped a guy twice for picking me up. That guy was my best friend. He picked me up from behind and I sorta whipped around and slapped him. The first time he didn't put me down, he just laughed. So I slapped him again. He got the hint. 

19: do you keep a journal? what do you write/draw/ in it?- I don't. I tried a while back, but I figured it would be easier just to talk to people about my issues instead of writing them down. 

20: what’s your favorite eye color? - Green. Or dark brown. 

21: talk about your favorite bag, the one that’s been to hell and back with you and that you love to pieces. - Not sure what this means, sorry. I've got this pencil pouch that has a tree print on it that I've used for a few years now even though it has a hole it it. Does that count? 

22: are you a morning person? - No. I wake up at 5:30 am on weekdays and usually don't get out of bed until I have ten minutes to get ready and leave. 

23: what’s your favorite thing to do on lazy days where you have 0 obligations? - Stay in my room and draw! Although I don't have lazy days. Every time my mom comes upstairs I immediately start cleaning because if I don't she'll yell at me for being lazy. 

24: is there someone out there you would trust with every single one of your secrets? - Yes. Take a look at who sent this ask. Also my other two online friends! One of them I spam with worms on a string and the other I just know I can trust and I don't know why. 

25: what’s the weirdest place you’ve ever broken into? - the only place I've broken into is my own house. I had to climb the backyard fence to go through the back door because me and my brother forgot our keys. 

26: what are the shoes you’ve had for forever and wear with every single outfit? - My plain black tennis shoes. I need to get new ones because these ones are old and barely fit but every time I mention it, it's like I never said a word. 

27: what’s your favorite bubblegum flavor? - Candy Cane! 

28: sunrise or sunset? - Sunset! I get to see the sun setting behind the Rocky Mountains and it's really pretty. 

29: what’s something really cute that one of your friends does and is totally endearing? - exist 

30: think of it: have you ever been truly scared? - Yes. I'd rather not talk about it.

32: tell us a story of something that happened to you after 3AM when you were with friends. - I remember being at a sleepover a few days before I moved (this was in South Korea) and I woke up at 3:34 am (yes I remember the time don't ask why) because one of my friends was playing Megalovania on the keyboard. Then she turned around and asked who the hell took her pretzels. They were under her pillow.

34: tell us about the stuffed animal you kept as a kid. what is it called? what does it look like? do you still keep it? - I still have this stuffed animal now (I have all of my stuffed animals. I haven't brought myself to get rid of them). It's a little pink blanket with a bunny head named Squeek. Not Squeak. I didn't know how to spell that. 

35: do you like stationary and pretty pens and so on? do you use them often? - No. I don't have any.

37: do you like keeping your room messy or clean? - Messy! It may sound strange, but I can't find anything when it's clean. It also feels empty unless I've got stuff all over the floor. 

38: tell us about your pet peeves! - When I tell remind someone of the rules and they say "okay" and continue breaking them. Like we aren't supposed to put pans in the dishwasher because it ruins the pans. Yet my brother always puts them in there. I remind him and take it out, and he says "okay" and puts it back. I also hate it when I ask someone to stop doing something (usually when it's making me nervous or upset) and they ask "WhY?" in a really annoying tone and keep doing it. I ALSO hate it when I'm in charge and yet no one listens to me. 

I also don't like it when no one says thank you. It makes it seem like they don't appreciate me. 

39: what color do you wear the most? - Grey. I want to wear colorful clothes but the last time we went clothes shopping and I asked for pastel colors, I walked out of the store with grey, light grey, brown, and dark blue clothes. 

40: think of a piece of jewelry you own: what’s it’s story? does it have any meaning to you? - I have a locket that I made for my seventh birthday. It has little charms in it (a rose, my first initial, a heart key, and a birthday cake) and it's gold. I love it and I don't know why. 

41: what’s the last book you remember really, really loving? - There's a book series that I don't remember the name of but it's about a girl who is forcibly turned into a siren by three other sirens. She has to eat human hearts to live. It's kinda gorey, kinda romantic, lots of action. I love it. 

42: do you have a favorite coffee shop? describe it! - Unfortunately no, I usually get coffee at a gas station ^^' 

43: who was the last person you gazed at the stars with? - My dog Freyja! Whenever I take out trash, she comes with, and when the sky is clear I like to point out the starts with her before we go back inside. She's very sweet. But I can't stargaze for more than a minute. 

44: when was the last time you remember feeling completely serene and at peace with everything? - Last year I went on a trip to Florida to stay with my grandparents for a week. I remember waking up one morning with a beautiful view of the ocean and the sound of waves crashing onto the shore. My grandparents have an apartment of sorts that faces the Atlantic and you can literally go down the stairs and go swim in the ocean if you want to, it's like a two minute walk, not even. I love the ocean and the sound of waves and seagulls is always calming to me. But my house is very loud and there's no peace here.

At the station he would buy our tickets and we met up with another mum (Kendra) and son (Harry 9 years old) who were also going on the trip, I was very pleased with this as my son had company and he was already more excited! Our driver left us and then we all got onto the coach and were told to get off at the last stop and to get comfy as we would be on this coach for over 5 hours :/ luckily it had air conditioning an nice seats and it wasn't your typical bus that you would imagine it to be like off films with all of us standing up holding on and swinging around sweating full of kids, goats, chickens, no sides, loud talking and Mexican hats lol. We had several stops at service stations where you could go to toilet buy something to eat etc. We finally arrived at our last stop and Paolo met us, we then all got into the van and he drove us to the beach house. It was absolutely stunning not modern more eco but still perfect being right on the beach. We met some of the team Jennha, etc and they showed us to our rooms, put down our stuff and then a little while later they showed us around, lunch was already there waiting for on the side we all had something to eat the food was delicious and cooked by a local whose husband worked for the group and his wife would cook fresh every day. It was so healthy and delicious. We also had fresh food in the fridge, tins etc in cupboards and sugar... but be careful an make sure you secure things as the ants will be in there for sure. They got into the sugar an cereal boxes and were everywhere the little naughty’s.  We sat outside on the bench by the beach and went over everything  we would be doing for the following week it was very exciting indeed. While we were getting our brief my son Jake and Harry were jumping in and out of the pool and living their best life! Later we went on a beach clean and all of us collected lots of rubbish on the beach after that we got back and relaxed, then Pablo an the team surprised us with our first hatchlings with Jake and Harry got to count and pick up the babies and place them onto the beach and we watched them go off into the ocean. What an experience to witness! We took as many videos and pictures as we could capture the moment but it is up there in our memory. Later that evening Amy my friend was on her first night patrol where she would luckily see two turtles laying her eggs, how wonderful to experience this on the first night. It was out of season too! She collected the eggs as to keep them safe back & they would take them back to the conservation camp away from poachers.  

The next day we woke up and had breakfast and have to all be in the van by 8 a.m. unfortunately that evening my son Jake had developed a fever which he could have got from sunstroke lots of travelling, food or perhaps a bite? So we had to stay home and I looked after him while the others went to the camp. I was very disheartened that this has happened but that is life. The next few days he was very ill. I managed one afternoon when he was sleeping, so I gave him meds an got to go with the crew and go on the riverboat and experience some wonderful birds fish crocodiles etc it was truly beautiful. We have to count how many birds we could see in one area to try and build up some data. Of course the lovely Jennah stayed at the beach house to be there to watch Jake, it was perfect timing as he awoke when I arrived back an mumma was ready to look after him again.   

On the third day (Wednesday) Paolo took me and Jake to the doctors as his temperature was still high and his throat was killing him and he was very weak. There and then they issued him an injection in his buttocks and it really hurt him but within an hour he felt great. In the injection was a potent mixture of antibiotics painkillers and something else, I wonder why we don't have this back in the UK obviously money reasons but it was amazing. As he didn't have to wait to feel better after days getting antibiotics. Over the next few days he did have to have other antibiotics and painkillers but he improved massively and then we could finally start to enjoy the experience.  On my first patrol I went out on the second night when my son was ill Amy looked after him, and unfortunately I didn't see any turtles laying eggs but we did witness a turtle and she was trying to do it, but couldn't it, was simply amazing on the quad bike going up and down the beach with all the glistening stars. I was looking up an in disbelief at how many more there were in the sky due to no city lights.  

Thursday - the day after the doctor's appointment we got up and we had breakfast and then we went to our first time to the turtle camp we had a little look around and we looked after the baby turtles they were super cute. We had to clean out there tanks, clean them with little toothbrushes, cleaned the tops of their shells and underneath and very gently on their heads. We then chopped up the veg and prepared the food for the iguanas, opened cage carefully & put the iguana food in the iguana containers. We then finished an went to help the others a little, they were cleaning the big turtle tanks. Work was finished by about 10:30am in the morning as the sun was starting to get hot so we headed back to rest and chill by the beach house. Bliss!  What chill was involved, well either lounging round the pool, or laying on the hammocks swinging left to right while watching an listening to the ocean & watching the birds flying. I'll never forget it! Paradise. Not a busy beach, just perfect. I hope that in the future they can protect more of the land around the turtle camp, beach and mangroves and make it as a national park to protect animals and humans can then respect the area and just visit but take their rubbish with them.  We took it in turns to go out on night patrols either near midnight or at 3am in the morning. Reason for this was to do with the times the turtles lay at this time of year & to do with the sea currents, moon etc. Jake & me went out together twice over the week, he absolutely loved the quad bike along the beach & we witnessed together a turtle laying & bearing her eggs, then we collected them by digging them out with our bare hands & counted them. over 100 ... wow! The eggs felt bendy, but they wouldn't brake easy, they were white in colour & not overly large. Similar to a ping bong ball. It was a truly special moment that  I will definitely remember forever. Especially very lucky to do this with my son!  

Friday - We had the job of cleaning out the large tanks & cleaning & moving the large turtles. This was a little bit more physical as we had to scrub the tanks with bleach and sweeping brushes and rinse out with water several times and then move the turtles, clean their large shells and their heads & fins gently. They were fairly heavily as they were older turtles so two of us had to do it, one would be at the front by its head and another person at the back to carefully slide them along. It was very difficult to lift them and they also don't like being lifted so we respected them. If a staff worker did this to make things faster, they would flap there fins an look annoyed lol.  

Friday afternoon - We moved the mangroves into the van & planted them near the other mangroves already there. I did not know a lot about them before this, but they are very important plants to the areas ecosystem, environment as well as a natural flood defence.We had to dig in the piping hot sun, which was physically hard, yet rewarding; Jake very much enjoyed whacking & digging the mud & chopping up twigs with the axe! I worked with my two friends today, Tina, Amy as well as Pablo & my son, and us girls got bitten alive by mosquitoes as they are always close to water & trees. In total I got bit 16 times in one hour! hahaha. However as it was low season for mosquitoes I was happy about this, as it could of been a lot worse & more of them round by our pool. Next to the mangroves there is a degraded palm tree farm, where the trees have been cut down which has caused the land to become dry and cracked. Also polluted water has been causing the land to become a purple colour. This has had an impact on the local ecosystem.

 Nearly every afternoon we had to incubate the eggs from the night before from the night patrols. This involves getting on our hands and knees, taking the sand from the bags in eggs putting it at the bottom of the container and then delicately load in the eggs in with a little gap in between each and then put in more sand in from the beach and doing it in layers. They would then take it back to the camp. But some mornings a certain animal would get in and eat the eggs. This was very frustrating for the team. This is a reason why I and Amy want to start a JustGiving page so they can have money go towards making a proper secure unit or cage for the incubated eggs and so the animal cannot get in.  Saturday - One of the last afternoons we had to move tons of sand with a shovel and the bucket was placed on top of the quad bike where one of the team members would drive that heavy load up to the top. This had to be probably the hardest job out there especially as we did it in the hot sun, and we needed to do it within an hour and we were falling down holes and nearly whacking each other with shovels lol. The reason for moving the sand was every few months they had to change it for the incubation, creating a new incubation area.  

Tuesday - Our day to leave camp, we hugged and waved goodbye to the team, then Pablo & Jennah drove us to get our tickets an bus purchased by projects abroad. This time took longer, about 6 lonnnnngggg hours. Jake was so tired, he slept most of the way. Think we were all tired. But my oh my, what a trip, what an experience! I would recommend this to anyone.
