Ok so idk if she actually counts but I'm submitting her and please throw her out if not. Here's why I think Tara was fridged: the sole purpose of her death was to further the plot and cause pain to other characters. Now, because it's Buffy, these other characters were women. So her death was only to cause pain to her girlfriend (ex-girlfriend? They were broken up but mending) Willow, cause her to relapse into magic, and then make her essentially the big bad of the season. All of this was then to cause Buffy, the protag, to have to fight her best friend and be told she needed to either stop her or kill her. So while Buffy and Willow are both women, Tara's death was solely to cause them pain as significant other and protagonist and to further the plot. (It's also bury your guys and Joss Whedon sooooo). Tara literally was killed sloppily for no other reason than as a plot device in a desperate "well we already killed our protag and brought her back to life, how do we raise the stakes from here" ploy necessitated by crappy writing. If she doesn't count, again please throw her out, but I feel like she counts as fridging esp when looking at how Joss Whedon rights Buffy in this season to essentially bc a self insert of man pain but as a woman.

Stuffing a woman in the fridge is one thing, but stuffing a queer woman who was one half of a beloved same-sex couple on a TV show famous for its strong female characters for the sake of drama while enforcing negative LGBT+ stereotypes in the process is really something else.

Her girlfriend, Willow essentially plays the role of the man in the relationship. Tara dies to facilitate her villain arc. Xander is also sad about her death and he is a man.

Mako Mori

Cause of Death: Exploded in a helicopter

The Mako Mori test has been proposed as a "better" version of the Bechdel Test (which I'm well aware of the bechdel tests point and common misuse) she has a full, rich arc that is not romance oriented in the first movie. Also she pilots a giant robot. In the second movie she's textbook definition fridged.

Cause of Death: Stabbed by her lover for becoming a tyrant

I'm just. I can't believe she hasn't been submitted yet. Classic example of end game fridging, where she *had* to be killed by her male lover to bring him pain and Man Tears TM. Clearly it effects him (sad) more than her (dead). Now obv Dany had a whole plot prior to this, but her death itself is such a classic example of fridging that I have to submit her, it legit only happened for a stupid "plot" to bring Jon ManPain. It was a death so stupid that GOT, what once was a cultural touchstone, isn't talked about except in how bad the end was

Reason why I watch it: buffy summers is the actual love of my life i'd trust her with my life more readily than anyone else fictional or real <3 okay but also bc it's gotten a hold on my brain that literally no other show has done it is literally changing my brain chemistry it is so good it is so rich in neurodivergent and queer characters. i love characters with Such Issues <3

Reason why I watch it: it's my favourite show it's my special interest it's soooo !!!!! i love doctor who so much i've rewatched it plenty of times, it says such beautiful things about being human, space but mostly about LOVE !!! life is all about the beautiful things and having a friend actually so true <3

Why I started watching it: my best friend watched heaven sent years ago when i came over and she said hey do you mind me finishing up this episode while we eat lunch and i was immediately intrigued and then watched all seasons <3 she literally changed the trajectory of my life forever <3

hotch is the principal

spencer could be a high school chemistry teacher or an elementary teacher (honestly he could teach anything he wants lol)

OOOH YAH (teacher!spencer hc here) were gonna say this is like a K-12 school just because...

Hotch: total principal, are you kidding? no other character has ever principaled quite as hard; comes off very boring and stern, but has a huge soft spot for the trouble makers and is lowkey an amazing mentor; runs one of those young gentlemen’s groups where he teaches them how to tie their ties and shit; coaches the debate team; travels to all the classrooms throughout the year as a guest reader and is surprisingly great at story voices

Gideon: chaotic AP that actually doesn’t really help at all— half the time Hotch isn’t even sure where he is; usually letting kids get away with shit because he thought it was pretty clever; helps with the senior prank

Rossi: replaces Gideon as AP when he retires and doesn’t do much better; always in his office; when kids get in trouble they have to come to him first— only the most severe offenses go to Hotch— so he deals with a lot of kids who get caught with like cigs or other contraband and always “confiscates” it; the kids love him bc he’s hilarious and also bc he knows a lot of pop culture that they’re into

Derek: could go either way for me— either he’s the gym teacher who takes it a little too seriously, OR he’s the English teacher who uses Nas and Tupac in his poetry unit; either way, definitely coaches after school; he’s a favorite among the kids for sure— he jokes around constantly, has a secret handshake for every kid; talks to them on their level, and always lets them play games at the end of the day (around the world, heads up seven up, etc)

Spencer: already talked about this in my hc but he’s just the best teacher; not afraid to be a total weirdo/goofball; very conscious and supportive of different learning styles and preferences; has the most ambient classroom; his students are always the smartest in the whole damn building because he reads up on every single teaching strategy and knows how to utilize them to best support his kids

JJ: elementary teacher for sure; she’s a Pinterest/IG teacher thru and thru— like her classroom is aesthetically perfect (organized, labeled, color-coded) and she probably has an essential oil diffuser or something; she definitely plays with the kids at recess— either kicking the soccer ball around, playing tag, jumping rope, or just laying in the grass and chatting in the sunshine

Penelope: she replaces the stuffy old tech teacher who spent 5 weeks forcing everyone to learn intermediate excel; at first the kids are like 👀 because Penny G is bright— but on the first day she has them all design their own websites and everyone immediately loves her; teaches them to code; runs an after school “tech club” which is literally just hacking skills 101

Emily: absolutely the languages teacher; also, a hot mess; the complete opposite of JJ— her classroom is literally just the furniture that was provided by the school and like three posters that JJ forced her to hang up bc “jesus Em it looks like a prison in here.” the kids don’t really care— they love her bc she just gets them and she’s always got snacks; also regales them with stories and pictures from all of her travel and years abroad; definitely organizes and chaperones various Europe trips and exchange student programs

Tara: the teacher that does not give a single fuck about what anyone thinks about her style abd methods; teaches some type of social science, maybe sociology; loves her kids and knows they can handle tough/weighty conversations; facilitates many debates and mostly manages to stay neutral; kids hang out in her classroom after school; definitely teaches older kids; very sarcastic with them and they love it

Luke: socially a himbo, academically a nerd; teaches chemistry and makes it super accessible and easy to grasp; always eating in the lab even though it’s against his own rules; his favorite day of the year is the ice cream in a bag day; brings Roxy to work with him occasionally and the kids are obsessed

Matt: definitely teaches some type of history or social studies; always has coffee (he has five kids of his own, he’s exhausted); he’s really into the presidents for some reason and knows like all kinds of random facts about them (like the Taft bathtub fiasco and that Zachary Taylor shat himself to death); coaches cross country or swimming and won’t shut up about it

Stephen: the guidance counselor; literally just the nicest human on the planet; will let you sit in his office and cry any time; writes extremely heartfelt recommendation letters for college apps; has a candy drawer and a collection of stress balls

Blake: definitely everyone’s teacher mom; genuinely loves and cares for every student and they keep in touch with her after they graduate; also teaches English and she and Derek are BFF; they run a literary magazine club after school and do a slam poetry night in the cafeteria; gets a lot of “you changed the course of my life” letters

Kate: the cool teacher; she’s an adult, but she’s still in the know about everything the kids like; has a fun teacher Tik Tok account; uses her clout with the kids to influence their decision making aka gets all the gossip so that she can surreptitiously counsel and educate her kids about being safe and advocating for themselves— in online/social media spaces and beyond

FIRST OF ALL HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Okay so I don't know anything abt your OCs, please tell me EVERYTHING. And what are their hobbies, their favorite places, what do they enjoy most in the world?

OH DAMN HAVE I NEVER POSTED ABT THEM HERE?? TIME TO CHANGE THAT

So my first one is Tara, she is of South Asian descent, specifically India, her great-grandparents immigrated to the UK and she lived near the west islands in Scotland. She’s wanted to go to space since she was little, she’s fascinated by that kind of stuff, and she’s studying at a nice college : )

Tara’s hobbies are doodling (just for fun, can be anything from people to plants) and gardening, she has a little windowsill garden of plants and herbs that she tends to carefully. They have names! She also like making star-maps of special occasions, she has one of what the stars looked like the night she was born that she worked very hard on.

Her favorite places is her home, where it was quiet and the air and sky was clearer. (If you’ve ever been to the UK you understand it’s disgusting fjgjjg 😔👊) However she does like the nearest city to her school, with a large library and a cafe close by. It’s a nice, quiet place to read or just vibe. The cafe knows her order when she comes in now hfgjfjgj.

The things she enjoys most in the world? That’s a bit tough lol, but she loves her family and her roommate (they’re close friends), and she is extremely passionate about her goals. She loves being high up and feeling the wind, she just like nature!! all of this makes it seem like she’s super quiet but honestly she’s a strong-willed, sometimes-prickly, confident person!

Other OC is Valeria, she/they are afro latina and lives in America (I haven’t decided where yet 😔) she’s a lot newer than Tara, but I love them so so much. They are v pastel punk, they make their own clothes! They’re less sure than Tara abt what they want to do as a career (they want to do a lot of things, it’s hard to pick) but they’re doing fine w their retail job atm, as fine as you can be in retail hfjggj

Val like sewing, crochet, and painting! They’ve got a spot in her apartment that’s reserved for painting, complete w plastic covering the walls and floor jcjggj. They’re good too, they like bright, abstract art, but they can paint a landscape like bob ross. They can also kick your ass at racing games, they’re the type of person to choose rainbow road bc they know they’ll win hfjfhkgj

I haven’t nailed down where they live yet, but Val likes a lot of places! But if you take them to an art museum you’ll be there all day HFJFG. They also like cafe’s, specifically locally owned ones. Parks are cool too, LOVES to see the dogs!

Val enjoys art, all kinds of art, SO much. It’s just cool! You make things! That’s so beautiful! They love their family and friends, hanging out w ppl they love is the highlight of their week.

And then we have Leon GJKCVJ. He diesnt count as an oc bc he’s based on Leon Kuwata from DR, but I’ve changed so much he’s not really that character anymore either lol. He’s schrodinger's character lmao

Leon’s hobbies are gaming, doodling (he likes markers the best) and writing shitty lyrics to songs he’ll never finish. He’s also a big fan of doing nothing

You’ll never get him to admit it, but he does actually like being outside. He doesnt like getting too hot, or sweaty, or bug-bitten, but he does like the freedom of being in a field and breathing free air. He also likes busy places like cities, he likes the aesthetic. He likes karaoke bars, and he’s been to quite a few mixers! He’s the type of person to invite his whole class at school, for the hell of it.

Leon enjoys freedom, specifically, what he thinks it is. He loves doing what he’s passionate about, whatever it is on a particular day. Despite this, music always remains something he can feel his soul connect to.

OOC week: media & entertainment

Favourite band(s): as of right now, i’m really goddamn into the 1975!!! but i would be Remiss if i didn’t include one direction here because they literally owned me for like 4 years, and they still kind of Do own me rip. i also really like bastille, troye sivan, carley rae jepsen, and little mix.

Favourite song(s): at the moment, my favorite song is ‘caroline’ by animé or ‘perm’ by bruno mars.

Favourite book(s): i will be honest, i have not been the best about keeping up with reading since high school or college, like my attention span is really nonexistent so reading is Hard, but!! some of my all time favorites are the secret history by donna tartt, the song of achilles by madeline miller, and 1984 by george orwell.

Favourite movie(s): here we are…..here it is……so, my favorite director in the entire world is david fincher, and i have loved almost all of the movies he’s made except for the ones that he himself does not love (he shits on alien 3 and the game so often i feel like nobody ever needs to criticize him for making them bc he doe it himself). but my favorite fincher movie without a doubt is the girl with the dragon tattoo, with the social network coming in at a close second and fight club and gone girl consistently duking it out for third place. honestly, my favorite movies are literally just david fincher’s filmography. other movies i’ve enjoyed, for various reasons are: lion (2016), nerve (2016), y tu mama tambien (2001), skyfall (2012), the incredibles (2004), wet hot american summer (2001), rush (2013), blackfish (2013), magic mike: xxl (2015), alien (1979), the hunt (2012), weekend (2011), mr. and mrs. smith (2005), x-men: first class (2011), shame (2011), brokeback mountain (2005), and the riot club (2014)

Favourite tv shows: oh……lord okay, lost is my favorite goddamn TV show of all time, and i will never love anything the way i love lost. just need to put that out there as a disclaimer. but others are: queer as folk, buffy the vampire slayer, grey’s anatomy, sense8, unreal, black mirror, torchwood, house of cards, skins, hannibal, scandal.

Are you active in any fandoms right now? not really. everything i care about is either dead or irrelevant at this point, and i’m honestly very okay with the fact that i’m not in a fandom and can just sit in a corner and watch all of the fandom drama from the periphery.

What fandoms were you active in? my first ever fandom on tumblr was queer as folk, and it was so chill bc the show’s been Dead for years so there was literally nothing to fight about, bless. except for how some people??? like michael??? Gross. but anyways, i moved onto supernatural, doctor who, and sherlock (rip) and was there for a Good Long While, but i matured out of it honestly and moved onto game of thrones, where i stayed until louis tomlinson and harry styles walked into my life and everything i touched turned into one direction.

What tv shows or movies did you watch as a child that were fundamental to how you grew up? i think desperate housewives was the first show i ever binge watched??? so that led to like??? my entire fascination with TV, and it also led me to queer as folk which was basically the biggest help i could have ever had in figuring out that i was a Big Gay Baby. but also buffy was soooo influential because it was not only a fun genre piece that gave me my fantasy/sci-fi fix, it was also just like?? these bad ass women doing bad ass things. and also it was the first of many Gay Taras that would come to television :’)

What’s one thing you collect(ed): the brand of tea my mom drinks always used to come with these little ceramic figurines and i thought they were so fucking cute, and i have them all lined up on my chest of drawers back home in massachusetts??? they’re so silly, like they change depending on the month you bought the tea during so some of them are pumpkins for october or little cupids for february or snowmen for january. they’re so goddamn adorable.

Have you ever been to a concert? If so, whose? my first concert was when i was twelve, and i saw three days grace, breaking benjamin, and seether all at the same time. can u say Emo Extravaganza. but since then, i’ve seen one direction four times, troye sivan twice, halsey, green day, marina and the diamonds, and bastille! i’m also going to an ariana grande concert in march solely bc i want to see little mix, and they’re opening for her soooo :’)

OTP: listen……it is so RARE for me to ship the main pairing of a show especially when it is a STRAIGHT pairing, so the fact that i love jack and kate from lost as much as i do is a wild goddamn ride. but also brian and justin from queer as folk are…end all be all of OTPs….and more Recently, fitz and olivia from scandal literally own me. also shout out to the OG gays, achilles and patroclus.

NOTP: sorry but don’t even try 2 take 2 me about april and jackson or cristina and owen from grey’s cristina deserves to be w jackson bc he’s just as pretty as her and that one time they made out killed me, april needs to stop talking, and owen is an ass. also richard and catherine are no good because catherine could be a fun character but she isn’t. she’s just horrible.

Currently watching: i’m actually not watching any TV right now?? i’m in a slump rip. but i’m waiting for grey’s and scandal to come back in like 2 weeks and looking for something else to watch.

Currently reading: a biography of elizabeth bathory because i really really love her and am going to be writing a script about her this semester, and also crush by richard siken.

Currently listening to: 24k magic, bruno mars’ new album, i am so into it!!!!!!

If you could make everyone read one book (or script), which would it be? i added the script part bc tbh if i could make aaron sorkin’s the social network required reading for every human being on this planet, i think……i think i would be able to die happy. but book wise, i definitely want to say gone girl by gillian flynn. i haven’t finished the whole thing, but i know enough to know that everyone Should read it.
