Clash of Justice: Robin’s Guilt (Short Story)
((Abigial Atled Calliostro belongs to me
Robin Weever belongs to @alpinesquibbles ))
Abigial is on a huge rant with her remaining followers. Robin, as an honorary guest, found herself in a mess.
The Hifumi Akatsuki has been thrown under the bus, removing most media promotion for the Abigail’s mayoral campaign. Dr. Oceane, who was in hiding, has been found to taken their own life after realizing their medical program is being part of an planned unethical medical mandate; this breaks several universities’ faith in the Inkopolis Family after being presented with this plan. Salvador, who was also in hiding, has been found and secretly killed by Bettas who weren’t following any orders but their own. This unauthorized assassination leads to a conflict in one of the Inkopolis wards that were fully devoted to Abigial’s cause.
The Betta volunteers themselves are already making desperate measures to the point where they had three choices: Take extreme actions in “convincing” citizens to vote for Abigial, leave the Inkopolis Family, or look to Abigail for answers. Nothing else. Many have chosen the former and end up bringing fear and doubt to many.
Robin Weever, an innocent inkling who Hifumi blackmailed, is now working for Abigial as both her bodyguard, her alibi, and — despite objections from the leadership — her Agent. She has been sitting in the middle of the ranting, too afraid to ask Abigial to calm down.
“Traitors! Traitors! Traitors!” Abigial boomed.
The leadership just stood where they are, presenting photos and papers of a rival candidate named Arissa. They also report of Agent 7 and his allies reunifying with a few exceptions. And even more bad news has been brought to the table regarding the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook who are getting help in breaking celebrity curfew and delving into the Inkopols Family’s archives and past.
Hearing this, Robin couldn’t help but pray that Agent 7 would do something to stop Abigial. She can’t say it out loud, though. She also hopes to be free from the Inkopolis Family.
“I’ll show them! I’ll show them all! Once I win this elections! I will have their tentacles cut off and nailed to a mural of bad Inkopolis citizens!” At this point, her ranting is delirious and irrational.
Robin tried to remain calm and she almost blanks out. She then reflected one something she never have thought about in a while: Agent M.
Agent M was the closest thing Agent 7 had to an apprentice and a daughter. She was the result of perfect Inkling cloning from the organization Leviathan. And despite having a short Agent career, Robin will never forget her sacrifice that she made to save her from an Octo-Weapon attack. She is no longer with the Splatoon.
Robin can also remember the anger and distress that Agent 7 was in when Agent M died. Agent 7 even blamed her for the death when it was actually Agent M who did this to herself. Since then, the two have never spoken to each other about her for years now.
Robin never let the memories of Agent M go, and at time, she ponders if she really did cause her death. And this is now getting stacked with the blackmail, the risk she put her friends in, her forced involvement with the Inkopolis Family.
One thing in her heart is weighing her down in this absurd and maddening state of Inkopolis: guilt.
Robin is just blanking out as Abigial kept ranting at her leadership.
Then one messenger barges in which silences Abigial.
The message came out: “Miss Calliostro! It’s time! All the ballots are submitted!”
