Note
Why do you think the ending of WTD was terrible? The whole book wasn’t as good as Pb’s other horror books or whatever genre it is, but it was still very enjoyable overall, at least for me.
There’s kind of a lot to this so I’m going to go a little in depth:
1. The final confrontation between the MC, Brynn, and the Queen was anticlimactic. It felt like the writers weren’t really sure what to do with the scene, so they had you make a diamond choice to grab a bottle of painkillers (which ultimately ends up being useless) and make another diamond choice to relive a flashback with Brynn while you try to sway her to your side, which really could’ve been saved for a better time because having a flashback in the middle of a deadly standoff just doesn’t work well. Overall, the choices throughout the final battle weren’t very impactful, and considering the fact that it was indeed a final battle, they should’ve carried far more weight storywise than they did.
2. Dirk’s sacrifice didn’t carry a lot of weight either. That is, he sacrificed himself trying to redeem himself, but it didn’t hit us very hard because we as the player never spent much time with him and didn’t get to know him well before his betrayal and eventual death. Furthermore, his fate isn’t really mentioned after that and it’s all over pretty quickly. PB really missed an opportunity with Dirk’s character arc.
3. Most of the characters we met throughout the book don’t appear at all in the final chapter. This includes May, Minna, Feather, Aliyah, Boots if you saved him in the previous chapter, and numerous others.
4. The ending is the same regardless of how you played. If your stats were high, you got the same ending as someone whose stats were low aside from a few minor dialogue/narration changes. In comparison to other stories like ES, It Lives, and TH:M, this does not stack up. The main character and the love interests all survive. Olympus is still active. We should have felt the impacts of our losses and mistakes, but we didn’t. Everything ended all hunky dory even if you made the worst choices, got numerous people killed, and had the lowest stats.
5. All in all, the ending scene was far too lighthearted for a horror book. It didn’t feel somber or reflective like most of the other horror books and considering it’s a book where the dead have taken over the world and killed most of the population? Well, let’s just say the tone didn’t really fit the story or what was happening.
6. The bonus flashback where we play as Brynn as a child was cool as hell, but it only left me with more questions. The worst part is that they’ll never be answered because the story is over and there’s no sequel.
Ultimately, the ending was kinda all over the place in many different areas and felt really underwhelming as a result.

WTD hard choices effects and consequences.
Rescuing Shannon
Let Brynn picklock it
Jeb stay alive (he will not appear after that matter what you pick)
Dirk unscratch
You won't get the healing item(doesn't really matter as long as you pick the right answer when fighting a zombie and paid diamonds)
Shattering the glass
Jeb dies
Dirk eyes will be scratch(His new avatar looks dope to be honest)
Dirk will talk about it and upset about it.
Angel's parents faith
Killing them
Angel will have outburst about it
Angel is less optimistic when Eli got bitten
MC will mention it but Dirk is unimpressed about it.
Bringing them
Angel is happier
Angel will believe Eli is still savable
Angel's parent will kill Mack
Angel will blame herself(this is heartbreaking)
No one will save you from Scout
Dirk will mention it and furious about it
As Angel romancer, I kept her parents on my first game. But I think you should end them, so Angel can finally move on from the moment she left the mall.
Argon Gas Mission
Saving Minna
Shannon will develop claustrophobia and PTSD(Poor Shannon 😕, you can feel the effect in chapter 16)
When scaring LI in chapter 10 Shannon isn't one of the options.
Dirk will mention it and pissed about it for choosing other people over your own.
Saving Shannon
Minna will loss her arm(heartbreaking) but still thankful to your MC for saving her.
Cool prosthetic arm for Minna's avatar
Walt will be very upset about it, he will be mad at you the rest of the book.
Dirk will mention it and still pissed for upsetting an ally leader.
I saved Minna in my first game because I thought she'd be depressed after losing an arm. There's no right option because both of them should be save but I think saving Shannon is the best route for this one.
Ironmount Colony
Sparing Trent
Ironmount colonist will be upset(only at the moment)
Aliyah will feel relieved.
He will help Dirk and Blackstock pursuing you(but the good thing about this you can punch him and I did punched him in my second game lmao)
Dirk will mention it and pissed about it.
Giving Trent to his people
Aliyah will be upset about it
Aliyah will mention it in the alliance meeting(not helping if you want to be fair moderator, but if you pick the right choice it doesn't matter)
MC will mention it and Dirk doesn't give a damn about Trent. 😅
Berserk Eli
Shooting Eli
Eli will feel bummed about it but he will understand it
No other effects other than you and your MC feeling guilty about it
Dirk will mention it and will be impressed for having a balls to take an action.
Try to breakthrough
Eli will feel bad for almost killing MC
Eli will have an outburst next chapter
Dirk will mention it and will be disappointed(I don't care to be honest)
I shot him in my first game, because I thought he had turned. I was waiting for the consequence for shooting him but Eli will take it more lightly if you shoot him, that was unexpected to be honest.
Spoiler ahead
Traitors' faith
Put Dirk and other traitors to death
You will get Dirk's electric baton.
Spare them
Nice Dirk will tell you "I will not bring you down again.", Asshole Dirk will tell you "This doesn't change anything."
Additional fighter bar.
If you spared Trent, he will die in zombie's hand or should I say claw?
Dirk will be with you and helped you breaking through Brynn(whether he is nice or asshole to you)
Dirk will save you from Brynn.
Honestly, I want him to survive. I know majority of Choices player hates Dirk, I don't hate him but I don't like him either.
Boots and Colonists' faith
Refuse to take a risk
Both Sledge and Angel will be upset about it(at the moment).
Boots and the colonist will die and you will lose fighter bar
Save Boots and the others no matter the cost
MC will injure their calf(doesn't really have long effect)
Sledge and Boots will be thankful
Save Boots and the colonists! No one should be left behind.
Let me warn you.
Be careful for this Diamond Trap!
Do not make the same silly mistake I did, though I decided to go full diamond run in this book, just like CoP and Surrender, I regretted buying it, that cost 15 diamonds, equivalent for 1 trip to Braidwood Manor. My MC is fully equiped and I am picking right options so this is very useless.
