Happy birthday, Carl Barks!

On March 27, 1901, near Merrill, Oregon, Carl Barks was born, the famous writer and artist of Donald Duck comics who would turn Donald Duck and his family into something spectacular, starting with Duckburg and the Duckverse universe. He had a difficult childhood and was constantly looking for work until he started working for Disney from 1935. He worked on writing scripts for many classic Donald Duck shorts, and from 1942 he started writing and publishing the comic book "Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold" and since then he has been writing famous comics that will be read all over the world and that Donald Duck will be even more famous. Although Al Taliaferro invented Donald's nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, Gus Goose, Grandma Duck and Bolivar the dog, while Walt Disney Donald and Daisy Duck, Barks remains famous for perfecting these characters and inventing one of the most famous characters without that the Duckverse wouldn't even exist. They are certainly Scrooge McDuck (created in 1947), Gladstone Gander (created in 1948), Beagle Boys (created in 1951), Junior Woodchucks (created in 1951), April, May and June Duck (created in 1952), Gyro Gearloose (created in 1952), Cornelius Coot (created in 1952), Goldie O'Gilt (created in 1953), Flintheart Glomgold (created in 1956), Magica De Spell and Miss Quackfaster (created in 1961), John D. Rockerduck (created in 1961), Abner Whitewater Duck (created in 1962), as well as Neighbor Jones, Soapy Slick, Pig mayor, Matilda and Hortense McDuck and other characters.

He stopped working with comics in 1967, but continued to draw special artwork and developed a duck style that influenced other artists and writers to follow him. Although he established his own rules for the Duckverse and the duck family, he never established it as true canon and let other authors make up their own. He strove for excellent humor (sometimes dark humor), and his comics are proof of that, even though conclusions about adventure comics were drawn from it. Those comics will later greatly influence other media, not only for Disney, but for the creation of the Indiana Jones movies. Influenced a lot on Osama Tezuka, the founder of manga. It also influenced the creation of Ducktales in 1987. He traveled around European countries and met other Donald Duck comic artists and writers. He especially influenced Don Rosa, Romano Scarpa, William Van Horn, Guido Martina, Carpi, Vicar and other authors. He married three times and left two daughters. He died on August 25, 2000 in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Upon occasion a body must be exhumed or done so by accident. Some exhumations can reveal unusual finds and many famous people who were exhumed are documented by curious witnesses. There is quite a list of famous people who were exhumed for one reason or another. Some of them include:

Daniel Boone – He was buried in Missouri but when moved to Kentucky, they thought they might have the wrong body.

John Wilkes Booth – His body was warehoused until his family finally put him to rest in their area.

Al Capone – His body was moved.

Karen Carpenter – In Karen’s case, they wanted to move her to a new location.

Christopher Columbus – His body had been moved around and so there was some question about whether the remains were his or possibly mixed with another person.

Marie Curie – Her body was exhumed and moved to be put in a place of honor.

Sammy Davis Jr. – Sammy died almost bankrupt so his wife actually had him exhumed to get the 70,000 dollars worth of jewelry he was buried with.

Adolf Hitler – In 1970, remains believed to be his were turned over for cremation.

Benny Hill – Sadly, this beloved comedian was the victim of grave robbery.

Abraham Lincoln – Several people thought to try and steal his body. Eventually, they encased him in concrete.

Lee Harvey Oswald – With the permission of Oswald’s widow, Eddowes had the body exhumed in 1981 and dental records confirmed the man was not a Russian body double, but Oswald himself.

Elvis Presley – Buried in Memphis, he was moved because someone tried to steal his body. He was placed at Graceland

Jesse James – The infamous Wild West outlaw may have died in 1882, but his legend lived on as did persistent rumors that James faked his own death. In 1995, the James family requested the exhumation of their ancestor’s corpse from a Kearney, Missouri cemetery and DNA tests confirmed the remains were indeed those of the outlaw.

Eva Peron – Evita’s body was exhumed and moved to Madrid, where her husband lived in exile. Finally in 1974, her remains were returned to Buenos Aires and buried in a fortified crypt in La Recoleta Cemetery.

Abraham Lincoln – In 1876 a gang of Chicago counterfeiters hatched a scheme to snatch the slain president’s body from his tomb in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois, and hold the corpse for a ransom of $200,000 and the release of their best engraver from prison. After law enforcement officials thwarted the grave robbers in the middle of the crime, Lincoln’s body was quickly moved to various unmarked graves until it was eventually encased in a steel cage and entombed under 10 feet of concrete in the same Springfield cemetery in 1901.

Zachary Taylor – In 1991, Taylor became the first president to have his remains exhumed, and tests conclusively showed that he was not assassinated by poison.

Oliver Cromwell – King Charles II exhumed Cromwell’s body on the twelfth anniversary of his father’s execution and in retribution for the regicide staged an execution of his own.

Simon Bolivar – Twelve years after his death, Bolivar’s remains were exhumed from Santa Marta’s cathedral and transferred to Caracas, Venezuela. The testing by forensic specialists proved inconclusive as to the cause of Bolivar’s death.

Quack Pack Kids and Teens with Pets

First of all, I wish everyone who celebrates according to the Julian calendar, Merry Christmas! Don't worry, there will be a surprise about that holiday and sorry for not making it, I'm busy sometimes.

Anyway I drew this drawing of kids and teenagers ducks with their pets after I got the idea from my friend. Well, children usually like to play with pets, so why not our heroes from the Duckverse. This is also part of my Quack Pack AU.

Louie Duck is usually an animal lover as well as an animal rescuer so I usually draw him with Donald's pet dog, Bolivar who happens to be a Bernadette. That dog first appears in the classic short "Alpine Climbers" where he rescues Pluto the dog. He was later used by Al Taliaferro as Donald's dog in the comics and mostly he appears in the comics. often Donald's nephews like to play with him, so why not teenager Louie with him. Both Bolivar and Louie have grown older. I also added pugdaddy, which is a raccoon-like animal that has a platypus tail and a duck beak. He also appears in a Quack Pack episode called "Shrunken Heroes".

Then there's Gosalyn Mallard from Darkwing Duck, but as a teenager who hangs out a lot with Donald's nephews and Daisy's nieces, and she keeps Archie, the goofy spider who's usually witch Morgana Macawber's pet. Since Morgana is part of Gosalyn's mother model, I'm sure Morgana's pets would also hang out with Gosalyn.

There are also April, May and June Duck, Daisy's nieces as teenagers. Mostly how I envision them in my Quack Pack. April Duck is with a cat named Trixie and it is Daisy's cat and it mostly appears in European mostly Dutch comics. Daisy's nieces love to play with the cat. May Duck is leashed by Knuckles the Iguana, a goofy iguana who is usually Daisy's pet in the Quack Pack. And June Duck keeps a rabbit as her pet. Yes, there's Dugan Duck, Fethry's preteen nephew who keeps a toad as his pet. And there's Webby Vanderquack, entering her teenage years, who also keeps her pet rabbit, since Webby likes cute animals.

Unfortunately, I wanted to add Huey and Dewey, but unfortunately they wouldn't fit in this drawing, so I apologize for that. As well as Morgana's pets, the bats, but I'll get to that another time. Other times, other children and teenagers with their pets will be shown. Maybe. They also all celebrate the New Year together with fireworks. I hope you like this drawing and this idea!

The second is tall and solid, bulky and obviously strong, built to intimidate. Eye Color: Hazel to brown, depending on the day. He’s not particularly consistent in that aspect of his shift. Need glasses/contacts/hearing aid?: He has no need for any, but does sometimes wear glasses. They were originally an affectation to make himself less intimidating, and are now a habit. Prominent Features: Slightly fox-like in both of his forms. Noticeably sharp canines. Two scars follow him through any human form he takes: a long, jagged scar from the top of his right shoulder to the point of his elbow and a perfect square of burned skin on his lower back. The first is mostly hidden by fur in his fox form; the second presents as a small, hairless, scarred patch on his back. SPEECH AND LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION:

Pace of Speech: When speaking Spanish--which he prefers--Ale speaks rapidly. In English, and most other languages he speaks, his pace is average to a little bit slow. Voice Tone: Ale’s voice is average to deep, depending on the form. He speaks calmly, level and authoritative, confident, sometimes bordering on flat and monotone. Accent/Dialect: Ale speaks many languages, but the first human language he ever learned was Nahuatl, followed by Spanish. It was centuries later that he learned English for the first time, and his accent when speaking English--and most other languages--is colored by the languages he learned first. Any favorite/habitual words/phrases? Curse words?: Tends to curse in Spanish, and not much in English. 'Ay’ is a common filler, and ‘pinche’ gets dropped a lot. Also has a tendency to give people nicknames in Spanish. Vocab & Speech Pattern: Formal, concise, educated. Mannerisms/Demeanor: Generally cool, remote, focused, and very still. EVERYDAY BEHAVIOR / HABITS:

Finances: Ale is, to use a technical term, fucking loaded. When he burnt his former masters’ organization to the ground, he claimed most of their assets for himself, and they remain squirreled away. That said, he is frugal and prudent with his finances. Money is never wasted on frivolous things, though when he does make purchases--like his car, for example--he will spend money on quality and minimal luxuries. Items he buys are used until they can no longer be repaired. Alcohol & Drugs: Ale does not do recreational drugs. For centuries, he did not drink either--he was not allowed to--but he has now loosened up very slightly, and will occasionally have a beer or two, or a fine sipping tequila. He does not drink to intoxication. He will smoke a cigarette very, very occasionally, after a particularly good fight or fuck. Routine:

Morning: Ale’s mornings are very regimented. He wakes up at precisely six a.m. every morning, makes his bed, showers and grooms, cooks himself breakfast, and completes a rigorous morning workout.

Day: Work is guarding slaves, a duty which Ale is fairly indifferent about. He is not unkind to them, but he maintains a professional distance while working. The Institute is generous to its property, compared to his former masters, and as far as he is concerned, any trouble slaves run into, they bring on themselves--especially when they run into trouble with him. He is strict and unbending with regard to the rules; even the most minor infractions do not go unpunished, though the punishment will usually match the crime. With time to find himself more, he has become marginally more empathetic to the slaves, but allows this empathy to show only when he is off duty, and in limited amounts.

Dinner: Ale cooks his own dinner, by the strict nutrition standards he lived under while with La Fraternidad, though over the past few years he has begun to incorporate more foods that he truly enjoys. Unless coaxed out or joined by someone, he dines alone in his suite, often in silence.

Evening: Generally speaking, Ale spends his evenings alone in his suite, though he may sometimes venture out for a run, or go exploring.

Sleep Habits: Ale is capable of falling asleep anywhere, and very quickly, though he is easily awakened by any sound that might be a threat. He has frequent nightmares. Since leaving La Fraternidad, he sometimes takes heavy doses of sleeping pills for dreamless sleep. Special Talents/Skills: Centuries of rigorous training have made Ale a very skilled fighter and athlete. He’s knowledgeable about most weapons, modern and old alike. Ale is an excellent marksman and a dab hand with throwing knives. He speaks many languages, some more fluently than others. He’s also very adept acrobatically, agile, fast, and balanced. What are they particularly unskilled at?: Ale falls short in a lot of interpersonal skills. He struggles with sympathy and empathy, and is frequently a rather awkward conversationalist. Hobbies: Ale plays the piano; a baby grand piano is his most frivolous purchase since he was freed, and one of the few large items he brought with him to the island. He collects knives and enjoys playing football--not the American kind. His hobbies also include boxing, MMA, and parkour. He also enjoys cooking.

Hometown: Tenochtitlan, modern day Mexico City. Childhood: His childhood was not unhappy, but he remembers very little of it now. He was independent from a very young age. Earliest Memory: Racing his siblings through wilderness in his natural form. Happiest Memory: Time spent with his young scientist friend at La Fraternidad; eight years spent working security for a powerful shifter in Texas; various successes through Jordan’s training over the past few years. His compassion has been very thoroughly crushed, but is slowly returning. Personal Philosophy: Ale believes the world is big, wide, and beautiful--and cold, dark, and random. Buried deep beneath centuries of necessary indifference, Ale still has a thirst for adventure and a love of fun, mischief, and good story-telling.
