some thoughts for the holly jackson fandom
so, some people have been wondering about when the agggtm show might be coming out and i've been thinking *deeply* about it. also, the universe is laughing at me, because i had an urge to check ig last night, and holly had posted a reel joking about everyone wanting to know when the trailer is coming out, which makes me think that she knows that everyone is (im)patiently waiting, but it might be still be a hot minute before we get anything. anyway, these are my thoughts. this is all speculation, with a little bit of logic, so don't take this as gospel
on the show's release
first things first: a couple of weeks ago, holly reposted a reel from one of the bbc accounts on her ig story where we got our first look at pip (she's in a dark room with lots of pink and blue led lights, i think this could be from the calamity party). this reel was a montage of clips, that you also see on tv that the bbc show during the holiday period to advertise shows coming out in the new year. from memory, these are usually for shows that are coming out in the first half of the year, so the show might come out in the spring, like april
why april? well, if you've read the book then you might remember that it all starts in april (the andie & sal case happens in april 2012), so if the show came out then, it would be a neat tie-in to the book
another reason why i think it could be april is because of another tv show: heartstopper
obviously, there are differences, hs is a netflix show, so is available to watch all over the world, agggtm is made by bbc so is only going to be available to watch in the uk (and i think also the us). it may become available to stream elsewhere later on, but that's another story
anyway, hs and agggtm are both ya book-to-tv show adaptations set in britain. hs had eight episodes per season with episodes being roughly 30 minutes each. agggtm is going to have six episodes, roughly 45 minutes each. so hs totals around 4 hours of content, agggtm will have 4 and a half hours of content in total. pretty similar
i did some further research (a lot of scrolling through instagram) to try and calculate when we might get some content. the hs ig account posted some stills on 1 march, just giving a first look at the main characters
on 16 march, they released some more stills, with some of the other characters, and also released the teaser trailer later that day
the full trailer came out 13 april, and the show came out april 22
sooooo, this is all speculation, and bbc will probably have different ideas from netflix to promote their show, but if the dates are similar and agggtm were to come out in late april like heartstopper (again, this would put it around the dates of the andie & sal case from the book), but i reckon we could maybe expect content to start dropping in march. we will see.
a final thought, which i'd forgotten earlier: if the show is successful, which i think it will be, then it would probably get renewed for a second season, then they'd want to film over the summer (the majority of events in ggbb happen in april/may, after the andie & sal memorial, which happens around the six-year anniversary of their deaths, which happened in, oh yeah, april)
some other thoughts:
holly posted on her ig grid a few days ago, mentioning stuff that will be happening this year, and i have a couple of ideas about that
her new book, the reappearance of rachel price is coming out on 2 april (this made me wonder if the show would come out later so that one isn't overshadowing the other, but the people deciding when a book is published and when a tv show comes out are going to be two different groups of people, and if i'm right with my guess, then start of the month and end of the month releases gives trorp enough time to get the hype it deserves)
book tour for trorp/holly doing appearances at book festivals this year. holly and her books are popular, and this popularity is probably going to increase after the show comes out, so i could see this being pretty likely
lastly, and there is no real evidence to suggest this, but it could happen: film adaptation of five survive. i'm not the first to say this, but it would be a great thriller, and as people have joked, would be pretty low-budget given that most of the action happens in an rv with just six people. if we do get this though, it would be probably be much later in the year

a good girl's guide to murder spoilers (regarding elliot ward and the television adaptation)
i finished reading agggtm yesterday in anticipation for the tv series and now i cannot WAIT for mathew baynton's portrayal of elliot ward. i've been hoping a villain role such as this would crop up again since 2015 when he played ariel conroy in you, me and the apocalypse
a side of mathew's acting we rarely get to see nowadays is now finally coming to fruition - all thanks to holly jackson and bbc three! a much darker side mathew can show on television will be back and i'm so excited! (especially for those who call him 'the horrible histories guy'. it's amazing seeing their reactions to roles like these!!)
2024 feels so far away yet so close. the show is set to air early on in the new year so i can only presume january or february would be appropriate. elliot ward you killing, kidnapping history (english in the television adaptation) teacher: i am READY

the way I'm in a reading slump because of archer's voice. The book was soo good that now I'm convinced that no book I have will reach my expectations.
I did start to re read AGGGTM. I read the first one a year ago. The 2nd one only halfway.
I bought the 3rd book last month!!
I will try to read the book before the adaptation gets released.
But I'm also studying for the ACT and I want to watch some TV shows over the summer instead if just reading.
So I might not be able to posy my reading journey as much as I have been doing before :))))(

AGGGTM Trilogy by Holly Jackson
I HATE HOLLY JACKSON! Just why?! Why would she do this to me?! It broke my fucking heart and I bet she didn't even cared while writing the third book of the trilogy. So, all the hate aside, I freaking love the series. Since book one, I have been hooked on the stories surrounding Pippa Fitz-Amobi and the murder cases in Fairview. It was just so interesting to read how she thought these cases through and how her brain worked. But my favorite thing about the series would probably be the relationship between Ravi Singh and Pippa Fitz-Amobi. Like, I'd want something like that! They weren't only boyfriend and girlfriend, they were more to each other. They ARE more to each other. I refuse to believe otherwise. And that's what a good book is all about. It's supposed to make you cry, it's supposed to make you question your life choices and it's supposed to make you feel miserable. But once you feel miserable and sad, you also need to feel joyful and in some moments even happy and that's what the trilogy did for me which was mostly Ravi's doing. Ravi and Pippa were soulmates. They were meant to be since day one and that didn't change. You probably figured this out but I just finished reading 'As good as dead' (the third book of the trilogy) and I was ready to wake everyone around me just to complain about the ending. It wasn't exactly how I hoped it would be. However, it was a fucking good book and an even better ending for the series. I have one request though: Please adapt the trilogy into a TV series but if you do, please make it good, consider your cast choices and consider how much you want to change the storyline because in my humble opinion, the storyline is already perfect.
Oh and my opening sentence: I mean it metaphorically. An author isn't good if their readers don't have an ounce of hate for them.

as good as dead spoilers
this post has major spoilers for agad, don't look if you haven't read all three books
i don't know if this is the case for anyone else, but i guessed the identity of the dt killer before the big reveal in agad. before i go any further, this is not bragging, and there is a point to this post, so please have a read.
although i wasn't expecting pip to get kidnapped, i wasn't actually surprised by who it was. i'm not saying this as a brag, but i wanted to detail something that i noticed during my first read of agad, and that is actually relevant in the first book and that we will hopefully see in the show.
in agad, chapter twenty, pip looks at photos of andie's planner, and there is a paragraph mentioning the "full photo" which "showed more of andie's cluttered desk", and includes "a pale purple hairbrush" (agad, 198)
this isn't the first mention of a purple hairbrush in the book. in chapter thirteen, pip and ravi read an article from february 2012 about the dt killer, which mentions the trophies that he took, including "a lilac or light purple paddle-shaped hairbrush" (agad, 131-2)
it comes up again when pip is reading the interview transcript of billy karras in chapter fifteen. in the interview, the words "purple, light purple, lavender-ish" and "lilac" are all thrown around (agad, 161)
so when "andie's" hairbrush was mentioned in chapter twenty, and mentioned specifically as "pale purple", best believe my brain was latching on to that little detail. it seemed too coincidental to be a coincidence
after reading andie's email in chapter twenty-one, i felt pretty sure, and holly's misdirect (pip thinking that the dt killer was daniel da silva) didn't make sense in my brain, because it would have been weird for daniel to give andie a hairbrush, but andie receiving a hairbrush from her dad, less so
again, this is not bragging. in chapter twenty-seven, after jason is revealed to be the dt killer, pip makes the connection: "the purple paddle hairbrush on andie's desk [...] it had belonged to melissa denny, jason's second victim" (agad, 262) the signs were there before the reveal, other readers have also probably put this together
anyway, that was a lot of words, but there was a point to this
the photos of andie's planner come from when pip and ravi break into the bells' family home in agggtm
"on top of the make-up case was a paddle hairbrush with long blonde hairs still wound round the bristles. beside it, pip spotted a kilton grammar academic planner" (agggtm, 223)
so yeah. pip and ravi. doing a spot of b&e. in the first book of the agggtm trilogy. which has been adapted for a tv show.
all this to say, if we get the purple hairbrush in the background of pip taking photos of andie's planner, i will go INSANE.
edit: if you've read this far, would love to know if you picked up on the purple hairbrush hints in agad, and also the likelihood of it appearing in the tv show
