This Saintpaulia ionantha cultivar (African violet) has double flowers and variegated leaves. These plants are evergreen, rosette-forming, frost-tender perennials which are popular houseplants for locations with partial shade.
Super fun #swellbow tattoo from yeaterday. She sat like a rock, even when I was right on top of that #elbow. #Honeycombs are always a great subject matter for tattoos! I really wanted to take part in another #Six on Saturday this week, but sadly, our little garden is waterlogged. Any flowers that were grimly hanging on, have been reduced to a soggy mess from all the rain.
This had me remembering all the lovely flowers that have made me smile this year.
I am not sure what happened to this African Violet. It was a beautiful gift and well worth…
Well, since "houseplants" is trending and it's been awhile since I've spoken about my violets, I'll post a few of them here. Their names are "Beatrice II", "Mara", and "Nova" #AfricanViolet #saintpaulia #houseplants #houseplantcare #planttwitter https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch5X5f7p4rw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In 1892, German colonial officer Walter von Saint Paul-Illaire identified these plants and sent seeds back to Germany. The genus came to be called Saintpaulia, though the plants have recently been re-categorized into a different genus, Streptocarpus. Despite their common name, they are not a type of violet, but they do produce vivid, violet-colored flowers. 𝓈𝓉𝒾𝓁𝓁 𝓅𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔, 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚑𝚊𝚙𝚙𝚢𝚙𝚕𝚊𝚗𝚝𝚜𝚐𝚞𝚢𝟷𝟿🪴 #africanviolet #saintpaulia #foliage #variegatedplants #plant #africanvioletsofinstagram #plantmakepeoplehappy #plantsph (at Cavite, Philppines) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfFwhZjvl9q/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
African violets are one of the most popular houseplants because of their attractive and colorful flowers, and ease of care. They are native to Tanzania and thrive in warm and humid environments, making them a great choice for indoor cultivation. African violets have dark green, fuzzy leaves that form rosettes and small, delicate flowers that bloom in shades of pink, purple, blue, and white.
These plants can be grown in a variety of containers, including hanging baskets, pots, or terrariums. They prefer well-draining soil that is rich in nutrients and high in organic matter. African violets require bright, indirect light, and are sensitive to direct sunlight which can scorch their leaves. Watering is also an important aspect of African violet care, and it is recommended to use room-temperature water and avoid getting the leaves wet.
African violets can also benefit from occasional fertilization, which can help promote healthy growth and blooming. They can also benefit from repotting once they outgrow their containers. With proper care and attention, African violets can bloom year-round, adding a burst of color and beauty to any indoor space.
Sharing a fun piece from last night’s kiln unload. Who else grows and loves African Violets? This planter has me so excited for growing my miniature trailing African violets. The fertilized water can be placed in the planter for easy bottom watering. 💜 💜 💜 💜 💜 #africanviolet #africanviolets #africanvioletslovers #africanvioletsocietyofamerica #potterylove #ceramicplanter
I'm so glad that I made this very difficult trip with my sister. She is my other half and life would be terrible without her. I can't be positive if this was taken at the time I'm thinking but I wouldn't be surprised but I had the worst migraine of my entire life as I waited for my grandma to leave us. My sister checked on me periodically.
Day 78 2016
Mom has been beading away! Wish I was as talented as she!
