ABT Cupra presenta nuevo modelo Tavascan Concept para la Extreme E
En el IAA International Mobility Show en Munich, Alemania, la marca de autos deportivos Cupra presentó su nuevo modelo para la Extreme E y con el que competirán en la temporada 2022: El nuevo Tavascan Extreme E Concept. El nuevo diseño montado sobre el Odyssey 21 está basado en el Tavascan de calle, el segundo modelo 100% eléctrico de Cupra, que comenzará sus ventas en 2024.
El nuevo Tavascan Extreme E Concept destaca por su desarrollo en impresión 3D, que permitirá al equipo ABT Cupra reaccionar rápido ante cambios pequeños de setup, incidentes en pista u otra modificación, ya que las nuevas piezas de la máscara solo tomarán 6 horas en ser fabricadas. Además, el equipo de Cupra ha podido refinar el diseño, no solamente entregándole elementos del Tavascan sino también mejoras aerodinámicas y deportivas para la competición.
La estructura está basada en fibra de carbono apoyada por fibras de lino, lo que también le da un carácter más sustentable al nuevo prototipo de ABT Cupra para la Extreme E, lo que va en línea con el concepto de la categoría.
“El Cupra Tavascan Extreme E Concept tiene un aspecto increíble y, además de ser completamente eléctrico, ahora es aún más sostenible, ya que utiliza materiales reciclables y orgánicos como las fibras de lino”, comentó Jutta Kleinschmidt, piloto oficial de ABT Cupra en la categoría junto con Mattias Ekstrom. Kleinschmidt estuvo presente en el lanzamiento en Munich. "¡No puedo esperar para competir con esta versión de nuevo diseño!"
“Creemos firmemente en el proyecto Extreme E en su conjunto”, agregó Antonino Labate, Director de Estrategia, Desarrollo Comercial y Operaciones de Cupra. “La electrificación, la sostenibilidad, el equilibrio de género y la diversidad son valores comunes entre Cupra y Extreme E. That same diligence and proven success can be found in its power upgrade kits, now available for the SQ8 luxury sport SUV.
From the factory, the SQ8 comes powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged TFSI V8 that puts out 500 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. With the ABT Engine Control installed, your SQ8 will be treated to exceptional gains of 140 horsepower and 58 pound-feet of torque. That results in a whopping 640 horses and 626 pound-feet of torque based on 93 Octane fuel. With this, the Audi SQ8’s acceleration is now on par with its bigger performance brother, the RS Q8 – it now reaches 100 km/h in an extremely rapid 3.8 seconds.
If your SQ8 model has the 4.0-liter turbo-diesel TDI V8 engine, it delivers 435 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque from the factory. When upgraded to ABT’s power upgrade, the TDI engine now delivers a hefty 510 horsepower (+75) and can achieve a standard sprint to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. This is all made possible by the high-tech ABT��Engine Control (AEC) engine control unit you see here.

Video: El susto de Claudia Hurtgen y su impresionante vuelco en la clasificación del Desert X-Prix
La clasificación del Desert X-Prix dejó a Sebastien Loeb y Cristina Gutiérrez como los grandes ganadores del día y favoritos para las carreras de mañana, pero el evento que más ruido generó esta madrugada fue el aparatoso vuelco de Claudia Hurtgen en su Cupra ABT.
Hurtgen se encontraba en los últimos metros de su vuelta, que hubiera sido suficiente para la tercera posición del día, cuando perdió el control de su Odyssey 21 al entrar demasiado rápido y cambiar de dirección en una bajada.
Afortunadamente no hubo consecuencias para la piloto alemana y si bien se perdieron la segunda sesión, todo indica que mañana podrán estar en la salida del Shoot Out, la carrera de desempate para el 7°, 8° y 9° de las clasificaciones, que es una suerte de revancha ya que no da acceso a la final. En esta carrera deberán enfrentar al equipo Chip Ganassi Racing, que fue 7° ya que no pudo completar su segunda ronda clasificatoria por problemas mecánicos.

2020 Audi RS6 Avant Gets Cranked Up with 99 More Horsepower
Most of Audi’s RS lineup is currently powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 that makes 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. For most people that’s plenty of grunt, but for those who believe more is always better, longtime Audi tuner Abt Sportline will happily beef up your RS engine to 690 horses and 649 lb-ft. For those counting, that’s nearly as much as the chest-thumping Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
All RS variants with the V-8 are able to receive the upgrade. That means the RS7, the RS Q8, and the extremely excellent RS6 Avant wagon are all eligible for the power increase. The bump in power results from the addition of Abt’s engine-control unit, a new exhaust, and small engine-management changes, and the upgrades are said to take the RS6’s top speed from 174 to 199 mph and lower its zero-to-60-mph time from a factory-stated (and likely conservative) 4.4 seconds to just 3.4 ticks.
The RS6 and it’s RS brethren also benefit from a host of other Abt-specific upgrades a unique suspension, new wheels, and body addenda. If you’re on the fence about upgrading, consider Abt’s excellent track record. The company has been working on VWs and Audis since 1992, and its products like the B7 Audi AS4-R, current RS5-R, and last generation RS6-R are pretty good proofs of concept. Not only do those cars look and sound incredible, they all have massive power upgrades to boot.
Perhaps the best thing about upgrading your Audi through Abt is its fantastic warranty. Despite packing in 99 more horsepower and ostensibly additional stress on the engine internals, Abt offers a four-year, 100,000-mile warranty on its products. If it were our RS6, we’d probably be handing the keys over.
