Thoughts on Black Maiden from the Shaman King Sequels?
So far she seems like wasted potential.
There is a lot of interesting stuff about her, from the way Jeanne's storyline ties into her to the dynamic she has with HonHon. Like, they definitely feel like they are becoming bickering friends and they feel like the members of the Daremoine team likeliest to redeem and switch sides.
Again, I feel like the series should have focused on this more then the Daremoine/Illimunati plotline.
For example, the Patch that protect the Daremoine. Did we honestly need that stuff?
Like, it's nice getting a glimpse of Hao's time as a Patch but it honestly didn't feel necessary. The Patch are always second in importance to the actual contestants, and I feel like there is so much going on the contestants of the YVS team are barely fleshed out and we still need to be introduced to 6 more teams!
It's the same problem I encountered when reading Marcos. The story is so all over the place with so many people to focus on that its hard to keep track which defeats any emotional attachement. In regards to all the various new characters, it means their potential got completely wasted and we'll never love them as we could have had.
How am I supposed to care and invest in Black Maiden, when she gets so little screentime and we can predict this to continue in the future just by remembering we need to introduce 6 more teams, their Patch guardians, the whole moon arc and the aliens.
There is so much shit introduced as well, like talking about the aforementioned Patch, why do the Patch of the YVS have an aesthetic? As in the fact they were all insect spirit users. The Patch of the original series used plants and animals alike! Their spirits weren't a cohesive aesthetic like the previous Patch were, so again it feels like its part of how they are retconning the original series to be more aesthetic based like we were already shown with Alumi's 'stylish' oversoul.
The original series literally had this line about oversouls not needing a style or aesthetic because it was the pure bearing of their soul and emotions, etc.
And then we get the sequel, were we suddenly get more aesthetic cohesion and style...
It's as if the writing itself is telling us the sequel is all about style and no substance.

Happy 82nd Birthday Scottish actress Brigit Forsyth born on July 28th 1940 in Edinburgh.
Brigit was a theatre fan from the age of eight when she saw her first pantomimes at the Kingโs Theatre in the city where she remembers Stanley Baxter as"The best panto dame ever" and Russell hunter during his Callan days.
She attended all girls schools Cranley and St Georgeโs in Edinburgh then trained as a secretary before enrolling at RADA where she studied for three years. She then joined various repertory companies including Lincoln, Edinburgh, Salisbury, Cheltenham, Hornchurch and Watford.
She toured in My Fat Friend and performed in the West End productions of The Norman Conquests, Dusa, Fish and Stas and Vi. Her film work includes The Wrong Side of The Blankets, The Road Builder and The Crystal Stone.
Brigit has worked extensively on television for many years in shows including Playing The Field, The Practice and Tom, Dick and Harriet. She has also appeared in countless long-running hits such as Doctors, The Bill, Casualty, Coronation Street and Emmerdale. She is best known for her long running role as Thelma Ferris in the BBC comedy The Likely Lads and Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads, she has been in the reboot of Open all Hours, Still Open All Hours, but said a number of years ago that The Likely Lads should never return.
Brigitโs heart has always remained in theatre and she has appeared in classics such as Hamlet, The Comedy of Errors, The Glass Menagerie and The Importance of Being Earnest as well as the recent West End hit Calendar Girls
In March 1998 she made a one episode guest appearance in Coronation Street as Ken Barlowโs dating agency client Babs Fanshawe. Brigit is married to Coronation Street director Brian Mills and they have two children Zoe and Ben. Brigit has also appeared in Eastenders, Hollyoaks, Holby City and Doctors, to name but a few of her many extensive YV roles.

Sorry about that itโs volume 25 where chapter 218 is at
I don't really remember what my initial reaction to that scene was. It's been years.
I like how it does tell the truth though, Marco was just a regular bussiness man, not someone holy at all and he just made up a scheme to kill the guy who destroyed his two businesses (as the orphanage was technically a business).
The deaths of the children is something that the sequel series made me even more conflicted about. Because in the original series, they were just kids that Marco likely abused through corporal punishment. Like, I was sad for their deaths but also relieved that Marco cannot lay a hand on them anymore.
But then the sequels came around and made it seem even more like a mercy kill with the discovery that the Daremoine uses the orphanage children for their own purposes when they grow up.
Those kids were fucked. A childhood of abuse and strict religion (where they worship god- aka YVS) and then being thrown in with the literal Illuminati of their world?
It almost feels like a cult with how these kids were essentially groomed to be YVS bootlickers.
I don't want to say Hao did the kids a favor by killing them, but they definitely did need to escape that orphanage ASAP.
