I showed my mom clone high
Since the start she said it was too sexual (literally while watching the into) whij I honestly didn't care bc... she never cared about what we saw on TV?? Like I remember watching friends with her and going 'did they fuck? I want them to fuck" Abt Rachel and Joey when I was 8 like girl you never cared Abt it in live action watching it full action you cannot care abt few jokes
I thought she was going to point at the mouth open kisses, the jokes, the sexual jokes but no
She pointed out at MARIE CURIE TITS
Btw k showed her the ADD episode bc she has ADHD and is the episode with less sexual jokes in s1 bc I wanted to show her the John Dark episode but Cleo banana moment would drive to a very awkward talk about fluids and oral sex

Recap:
“Don’t freak yourself out, though. He’s a good guy,” Jessie sighs. You rub your hands over your stomach, getting lost in your thoughts. That’s when you remember something very important that you don’t know about Grayson.
“What’s his number?”
“Grayson’s?” Jessie laughs out.
“No, my other baby daddy,” you joke.
“I’ll give it to you and then we’ll head to breakfast?” You sit up and nod.
“Thank god that’s over. Things can only get better from here, right?”
***
The next couple of weeks were pretty nice and uneventful. You got Grayson’s number and, as he said, you texted every day. You’d actually Facetime a lot, too. He says it’s because he wants to see the baby bump once it starts to come in.
You would tell him about your day, related to the pregnancy and not, and he would tell you about his adventures with Ethan and all the things he found doing his research on the internet. He keeps you updated on the fruit or vegetable that’s continuing to grow inside you as the time passes. He tried to find any solution he can to your morning sickness that has persisted. He even sent you a couple care packages with the things you said you craved, but it usually would come too late for you to enjoy. The look of the foods would make you nauseous, but your roommates loved the free treats.
The great part of all of this is that you have a relationship forming with your baby daddy, who will inevitably be in your life forever.
The bad part of all of this is that you are definitely falling for him.
You had a crush on him, and to be quite frank who wouldn’t. This hot guy has not only been talking to you every day, checking in with you and making sure you’re okay, but you’re literally pregnant with his baby. From having hot ass sex in the bathroom at New Year’s.
So it was safe to say you were into him. Which terrified you. Because there was no way he was into you. You were constantly ready for him to just never respond again, or for him to totally drop you and your baby for someone else, someone else with way less baggage. So you would do your best to keep it friendly and push him away whenever you felt like things were getting past friendly. You know, the healthy way to deal with your emotions.
Little to your knowledge, Grayson definitely had it worse than you. A part of him believed this was the universe giving him a huge ass sign that this was his future. You and your baby together were the beginning of your future as a family. But, he also recognizes that he is a hopeless romantic and has done this many times before. However, never with a baby involved and he was terrified of scaring you away. So he would try his best to keep everything friendly. Of course, he always miserably failed.
Your roommates and friends were definitely catching on to what was happening. They knew you were talking to the guy you met over winter break. However, you still managed to keep the news of the pregnancy to yourself. Given, you used bribery as your main mode of keeping their excited minds at bay, but if it works then it works. If they brought up your sickness or any of your other odd behavior, you’d remind them of the free food from the care packages you would give them and if they wanted it to continue, they should be minding their business. A bit harsh, but they wouldn’t let up otherwise.
You managed to get to spring break without anyone asking the big question, and you were grateful for it. You weren’t sure how you’d lie to them.
Your best friend’s house would be a different story. Anna will notice every little change in you that’s happened since you last saw her in December, and you definitely would not be able to come up with a lie to explain it all away. So you decide that as soon as she asks, you’d spill.
That actually went pretty smoothly. She was supportive and excited for you. However, she didn’t trust Grayson one bit and had even found his Instagram (despite you withholding his last name) and showed you his 9 million followers. This made you spiral a bit. Were you ruining his career? Did he have a life in LA he could never leave for your baby? Is he going to bring all these influencers around your baby?
Before you can control your actions, you’re facetiming Grayson.
His bright smile pops up on your screen. “Hey sweet girl, what’s up?” Every time he calls you that it makes you feel warm inside. It terrifies you because you don’t want to get to attached to him when you’re just friends. Who are having a baby together. Just friends who are having a baby together.
When he notices your furrowed brow and your lack of a smile, his happiness vanishes and is replaced with concern. “What’s wrong?”
“Anna showed me your Instagram,” you mumble. You’re almost embarrassed. You sound like a child. You instantly regret calling him.
“Anna did what?” He brings the phone closer to him so he can hear better.
“Anna found your Instagram and showed it to me.” “Oh.” You nod. “What…what did you think? Pretty douchy?” This makes you giggle as you shake your head. He lets out a breath once he sees your small smile.
“No. Just a lot of followers and stuff. I didn’t know you guys were that well known or anything.”
He coughs awkwardly and nods. “Uh, yeah. Is that okay?”
You sigh and frown. Your intention was never to make him feel bad about it.
“Of course. It’s your job, and your passion. I love watching you edit and stuff. You never have to be scared of what I think, I’ll always support you. Just intimidates me a bit, knowing that eventually 9 million people are going to be involved in my life.”
“We will do everything we can to keep you and our strawberry safe and off social media for as long as you want. Ethan already knows that’s the plan too and we’ve been filming some random videos for if we are ever out of commission for a little while for you guys.”
Thinks makes you smile while your features soften. You bite your lip, deciding on whether or not you should share all of your concerns.
“What’s going on in that pretty head of yours?” Grayson has gotten really good at reading you, even over the phone. You’d like to think it’s the emotions of the pregnancy that give you away, but he’ll catch you even when you think you’re hiding it well.
“I dunno.” You shrug and look away, bringing your knees to your body.
“Liar. Come on, what’s going on? I can’t help make you feel better if you don’t tell me what’s wrong.”
Your bottom lip quivers as you try your best to stop the tears from clouding your vision. He was always so nice to you, and it made you wanna cry every time.
“I don’t know. It just got me thinking about how your life is in LA and eventually you’ll meet someone out there and then I’ll be here just figuring things out alone. I don’t know, scares me sometimes to think about it.” You refuse to look at him while you speak and you’re met with silence at first.
“Y/N, why are you always waiting for something to go wrong? I’m dedicated to our baby for the rest of forever, and I’m dedicated to you too,” he sighs. He looks like he’s about to say something else but decides against it.
“Sorry. It’s hard for me to trust people easily. Not that you’ve done anything wrong, you’ve actually done everything you could. I just-“ you bite your lip, hesitant to continue. Maybe you shouldn’t be loading your trauma onto him right before bed.
“Hey, I get it. It’s okay. Every time you’re scared of any of that, remember you’re not in it alone and we’re going to do everything together, good and bad. Plus, we get to finally see each other again in a couple of days. And, we get to see baby on the screen.” He smiles, rubbing his chest. His reminder makes you wipe under your eyes as you nod. “Plus, I’ve planned a day in the city for us and Ethan to do some fun shit.  It’s gonna be a good week, sweet girl. Can I see your smile?” This instantly makes you smile and he can’t stop cheesing either.  “It’s late there. You should be sleeping. Are you good to sleep? Or do you wanna stay on the phone a bit longer?”
You look at the clock and see it’s 1 am. Your eyes widen as you take a big breath in. “Uh, yeah I should go to bed. You don’t have to stay on with me, I’m sure you’ve got stuff to do.” You start to get under your covers, laying back.
“I’m gonna get in bed, too. We can stay on for a bit until you fall asleep. Gotta rest up for our strawberry.”
You breathe deeply through your nose to calm your emotions before agreeing. Maybe having his presence there, even over the phone, will make you feel better.
You get under your covers and settle in, putting your phone on the pillow next to you. It was nice hearing his breathing, and you closed your eyes.
“Thank you,” you mumble, barely audible. You assume he doesn’t even hear it. Hell, he might be asleep already.
“Anything for my sweet girl.” You hear him breathe out.
Your body instantly relaxes, and you’re finally able to fall asleep.
***
Wednesday quickly rolls around and before you know it, you’re on the road to your appointment.
Grayson would be meeting you at the office. You had sent him the address yesterday after his flight got in. You felt bad for having a morning appointment because he’s three hours behind coming from California on top of the fact that he had a farther drive. That was the only appointment you could get for that week, though.
You get a call from him when you’re five minutes away.
“Hey Gray.” You know you sound nervous, but you hope he ignores it.
“Hey. I’m here. Want me to wait in the parking lot or should I go in?” You can hear the roughness of his voice, he must be exhausted.
“Uh, wait in the parking lot. It’s a big building, kinda hard to navigate. I’m only five minutes away.”
“Perfect, I’m in the orange truck. See you soon”
You smile, but remember he can’t see you. “Okay, see you soon.” You hang up and the butterflies instantly begin in your tummy.
The last time you were with Grayson in person he was making you pregnant. You hoped that the last month and a half of talking will make it easy to be in person with him, but you never know. What if it’s awkward and uncomfortable?
You pull into the parking lot and you see his truck instantly. Not many people have orange pickups in your area. Or in general, you’d assume. You pull into the spot next to his passenger side door. He looks up when your car pulls in, and his bright smile is painted across his face. He’s jumping out of his car before you’ve even stopped yours. You grab your purse and get out, closing the door and looking up. He’s antsy on his feet waiting at the back of the cars for you to walk to him.
“Hi sweet girl.” He opens his arms as you walk towards him and you allow your body to collide with his. His arms are around you in an instant and you hold him close to you by his torso. It feels like the world has stopped. He smells clean and fresh, just like he did the last time and it overwhelms your senses.
He rubs your back, not moving away from you and you definitely don’t complain. Hugging him has made you feel calmer than you had felt since you first found out you were pregnant. He was a safe haven while the rest of the world continued to go on.
Eventually, you turn your head to look up at him, keeping him in your arms, your chin resting on his chest with a wide smile plastered on your face. “Hey.”
“How are you feeling? Excited?” He smooths one of his hands over your hair before cupping your cheek.
You nod. “Yeah. It’ll be the first appointment where I can hear the heartbeat. I’m just excited to see our baby.”
He smiles. “Our baby, yeah. God, it’s so good to be here with you. Good to hold you.” He squats down and holds your stomach, his face coming close to your slightly pudgy belly. Your hands rest on his shoulders while your cheeks heat up.
“Hi, baby. It’s nice to finally meet you. Thanks for watching out for your mama, she doesn’t actually like being alone as much as she says she does.” You laugh at this, rubbing your hand over the spot he’s talking to.
“We need to go in if we wanna be on time.” You grab his wrists and pull him back up. He puts a hand on your lower back as you start to walk.
You make it into the building, check in, and are called back. The nurse gets everything she needs from you and leaves you and Grayson alone in the exam room.
He’s pacing around as you sit on the exam table, refusing to look.
“What’s up?” You interrupt his thoughts, a concerned look on your face.
“Huh? Oh. It’s just crazy that I’m meeting our baby for the first time today. Really wild. In a good way though.” He smiles and walks next to you. Before you can respond, there’s a knock and then your doctor is walking in.
“Hey, Y/N.” He smiles at you.
“Hi Dr. Jordan.” You wave.
“And you must be the father. Dr. Jordan, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He holds his hand out to Grayson and he shakes it.
“Grayson,” is all he says.
“So, we’re having a baby?” His smile widens as you and Grayson both nod back.
“Yeah, we are,” you respond.
“Let’s cut to the chase then and check up on ‘em. How does that sound?” He moves around, getting the ultrasound machine ready to go.
“Really good.” You smile at Grayson and he gives you a small one back. You can see he’s really nervous, so once you lay back and lift your shirt to just below your boobs, you’re grabbing his hand in yours. This appears to ground him a bit as he starts breathing normally again.
The doctor moves your pants down a bit so they’re out of the way before grabbing the gel.
“It’s going to be a bit cold.” You nod and gasp when the gel hits your skin, gripping Grayson a bit harder, a shiver running up your spine. Grayson squeezes you back and you look at him. He’s watching the screen as the doctor moves the wand around.
Dr. Jordan is quiet for a little while you watch him. All of a sudden, you hear a thumping from the machine and Dr. Jordan smiles.
“That’s a heartbeat, guys.” Your free hand goes over your heart, your eyes filling with tears. Grayson looks close to crying too. He lifts your hand to kiss the back of it.
“Baby looks nice and healthy, growing at the right rate. Y/N, I’m gonna ask you to get a blood draw and to leave a urine sample, but otherwise you guys are good to go. Any questions?” Dr. Jordan asks while he wipes the gel off your stomach.
You and Grayson both look at each other, tears still threatening to spill and smiles on your face. You shake your head, unwillingly looking away and back at Dr. Jordan. “No, I think we’re good.”
Dr. Jordan smiles at the both of you. “Sounds good. Call us if you ever have any questions, okay? And congratulations, I’m excited for you both.” He stands and leaves.
You let go of Grayson’s hand to sit up and adjust your clothes. He continues to stand there just watching you. When you hop off and look up at him, a tear has rolled down his cheek.
“Are you okay?” Your brows pull together in concern and you grab his biceps lightly, rubbing up and down. This seems to snap him out of his trance a bit.
“Uh, yeah. That was just really incredible. We met our baby today. You’re growing our baby in here,” he puts both hands on your stomach and you giggle.
“Yeah, I am.”
“Thank you.” He looks so sincerely into your eyes, making you blush.
“You ready to go?” You ask, walking away from him to grab your purse. This man is way too powerful to be making you feel a certain type of way. You are two friends having a baby. A friend baby.
He looks a bit hurt for a moment but quickly recovers. “Uh, yeah.” He walks to the door and opens it for you.
You get your tests all done and figured out, and schedule your next appointment for around Easter so that you’d have an excuse to be home from school. Before you know it, you and Grayson are walking out of the doctor’s office. He’s got an arm around your shoulder as you approach your cars.
“Can I bring you and strawberry to lunch? I don’t wanna leave you guys yet,” he says sheepishly, almost like he was nervous to ask you.
“Sure,” you smile up at him and wrap your arm around his waist. He lets out a breath of air he had been holding in and relaxes a bit.
“Cool. I’ll drive us and bring you back here after. Don’t need you woozy behind the wheel after your blood draw.” He rubs your shoulder.
“How is it that we are literally having a baby together and you somehow treat me like I’m the baby?” You laugh.
“One day you’ll let me take care of you,” he chuckles, shaking his head as you part ways to get into his truck.
You get into the passenger seat, buckling in. You were floating on cloud nine, it felt like you and Grayson were actually a little family.
Your thoughts are interrupted when he gets into his seat and adjusts.
“Can I ask you something?” He asks while he buckles.
“Of course.”
“Do you think we could, like, record a little video update or something?” You raise your brows, a bit confused.
“Of what?”
“Just like our thoughts and reactions and stuff. I was thinking I could put a video together at the end of all this for us and our baby when we’re all older and wanna remember. It wouldn’t go on YouTube or anything, not unless you wanted it to. And you probably don’t know a better video editor to do this project,” he bites his lip and raises his eyebrows while trying to gauge your reaction.
Your eyes are suddenly filled with tears again, thinking about how much Grayson really loves this baby. You nod and wipe under your eyes. “Yeah, that’d be cute,” you squeak out, not trying to let on how affected you are buy his words.
“Hey, don’t cry.” He moves his hand to rub your thigh. “Only good things, sweet girl.”
You nod and laugh. “I know. Everything makes me cry now.” You sniffle and breath in, collecting yourself a bit. “I’m ready, let’s do it.”
He reaches into his pocket and brings his phone out, holding it up so that you’re both in the frame. He starts to record and you watch the both of you on the screen. “Hello to whoever is lucky enough to be shown this video.” This makes you giggle, and he smiles. “We just got out of our first appointment together and saw our little baby for the first time.” He instinctively puts his hand on your stomach and your hand goes on top of his. “If you’re our precious baby watching this, we are so excited to meet you. Your mama and I already love you so much.” This makes you squeeze his hand and he looks over to you. “Anything you wanna say?”
“I dunno. What do you think I should say?” You giggle, your cheeks flushing when you meet his eyes.
“Anything you’ll wanna remember in a couple years. I know it’s weird talking to a camera at first, but I’ll cut this all out.” His gaze is kind and patient while you think of what you want to say.
“It’s still so surreal that I’m even pregnant, but hearing our baby’s heartbeat today has made me so grateful I’m able to be in this position. I’ve been so excited to be a mom my whole life, so if you’re my beautiful baby watching, thank you for making my dreams come true.” You smile at the camera and Grayson keeps his eyes on you. You look to him expectantly.
He shakes his head as if to clear his thoughts before turning to look at the camera.
“We’re about to go feed mama and baby now, as long as they’re feeling good of course. If baby is watching this still, thank your mom for all she went through for you when she was growing you, she’s working hard,” he chuckles and you laugh.
“I’m feeling good right now. Want a turkey BLT, actually.”
“What the woman wants, she gets. We’ll see you whenever the next exciting thing happens.” He turns the recording off and puts his phone away, starting the car.
“That’s gonna be really cute,” you sigh, the smile still sitting on your face.
“Yeah, I think it’ll be nice to have when we want to look back on all of this,” he pauses. “Do you know somewhere nearby with good sandwiches?”
“Yeah, there’s a deli like five minutes from here.”
You and Grayson head to the deli and have a nice lunch. Well, you do. Grayson eats a plain roll and pickles because all of the sandwiches had meat on them. You felt really bad, but he assured you it was okay because your little strawberry was craving a BLT.
Once you finish your sandwich, you notice he’s kind of zoned out.
“Grayson?” You look at him, folding your trash up while he just stares at you.
“Come stay with me for the rest of your break,” he blurts out all of a sudden. Your eyes widen.
“What?”
“Come stay for the next few days. We’re not going to get a lot of time together until you’re already halfway through everything.”
You start laughing awkwardly. “Grayson, I can’t just live with your family for a few days, they don’t know me. We don’t really know each other. Wouldn’t that be weird?”
He opens his mouth to rebuttal, but closes it again to think for a moment.
“It’s okay, Grayson. We don’t have to act like any of this is normal, we don’t have to force anything. Everything you’ve done for me has really been for strawberry. Don’t feel like you have any obligation to me.”
Grayson looks a bit hurt by your words, but nods. “Ready to go?” He stands up.
You sigh and nod, getting up with him. You throw your trash out and walk out with him. His hand doesn’t reach for you.
When you’re both settled back into his car, he sighs out your name so that you’ll look at him.
“I know this is all weird and stuff, but we’re going to have to be friends to raise this baby together. And my friends have come to stay with me at this house before. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable or anything. Nine months isn’t a long time to start, never mind the fact that we won’t really see each other until you graduate, and I want us to be in the best place possible for our baby.” He starts the car, not looking at you while he finishes speaking.
“I’m sorry I got weird. I just don’t want you to feel like you have to do anything for me.” You cross your arms, trying to shrink into the cushions of your seat.
“You’re right, technically I don’t. But I’m not a piece of shit and I plan on being a good dad. Plus, any friend of Jessie’s is a friend of mine, so even if you hadn’t gotten pregnant, we still would have hung out whenever you were in Jersey. I do what I want, and this is what I want to do.” He stops at a red light and looks at you for a second to see a pout on your lips. “And I hate being the reason you don’t smile. So, if you wanna, come stay with me for the next few days let’s do it, but if that makes you uncomfortable you should stay with Anna. We’re in the same boat, we both don’t have do anything we don’t want to.”
You sit there silently, pondering for a moment. A part of you dwells on the fact that he said you guys are friends, but friends don’t have other friend’s babies and then have them stay at their house with their family. The other part of you wants to throw caution to the wind and just enjoy your time with him before he moves on to start a life with someone for real.
“I’ll come,” you mumble. It almost surprises you more than Grayson that that’s your answer. You’re gonna blame the hormones for making you so impulsive.
“Okay.” His smile grows across his face. “Do you wanna come tomorrow morning so that you can have one more night with Anna?”
“Yeah, they’re gonna want to have dinner with me tonight if I’m not going to see them for a while.”
You guys pull back into the doctor’s office parking lot and he brings you back to your car. He parks and turns to you.
“I’m really excited to spend time with you, Y/N. Besides the fact you’re pregnant with my kid, you’re pretty funny sometimes,” he laughs. You scoff jokingly, biting your lip as you look at him.
“Sometimes? Well I think your jokes are cheesy.”
“Oh, do you now? Is that why you laugh every time?”
“Shut up,” you laugh with him, unbuckling your seatbelt.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, okay? And don’t freak yourself out about meeting my mom, she’s excited to meet you. She’s really excited to meet the amazing woman giving her a grandchild.”
Your eyes widen a bit. “I forgot I was going to meet her. Now I’m more freaked out than before.” You wondered how you’d even introduce yourself to her. Hi I’m Y/N, your son and I hooked up literally once and are now having a baby.
“Hey, get out of your head, sweet girl. I told you, she’s excited. You’ll get along well, anyways. You’re pretty similar people.” He leans over to rub your thigh.
“Okay, I trust you. I’ll see you tomorrow.” You squeeze his hand and open the door to get out. You turn to close the door and it looks like he wants to say something, but doesn’t. You wave and shut the door before getting back in your car.
What the hell did you get yourself into?
***
Grayson walks back into his house, almost body slamming Ethan by accident.
“Dude, watch out. Were you sitting here waiting for me the whole time?” He jokes, an annoyed Ethan rubbing his chest where Grayson’s shoulder hit him.
“No, stupid. I was going to take the quad for a ride. How’d the appointment go?” He watches Grayson put his keys down.
“Good. We heard the heartbeat and stuff, everyone’s healthy.” Grayson smiles to himself just thinking about it.
“It took, like, three hours for the doctor just to tell you that? Ma and I were scared something bad happened.”
“Nah, I took Y/N to lunch after because she really wanted a sandwich and it’s usually hard for her to even eat anything that early.”
“Oh, a date?” Ethan raises his brow as Grayson turns to him. Grayson rolls his eyes.
“No. A ‘you’re pregnant with my baby thanks for growing it’ lunch.”
“Yeah, okay. You’re gonna lie and tell me you’re not already in love with her or some shit?”
“E,” Grayson groans.
“No dude, you have to be careful. She’s going to be a part of your life forever now. Don’t fuck it up by falling too fast and then moving on. She’s not one of your ‘soulmates.’ She’s the mother of your kid. Just be smart.” Ethan opens the door and goes outside.
Grayson stands there for a minute, considering what Ethan said. He’s right, he can’t get caught up in any feelings he has for you because whatever relationship you have, it has to last forever. He knows he has the tendency to fall fast and then move on fast, too. He can’t do that with you.
***
You say your goodbye’s to Anna and her family before you head off to Jersey. You decide to call Grayson instead of texting him to let him know you’ve left. He picks up on the fourth ring.
“Hey, what’s up? Everything okay?”
This makes you laugh. “Yeah, the only time something is wrong is when I call you and something is wrong is at night. I just wanted to let you know I left so I’ll be there in an hour.”
“Oh, good. Okay. Can I make any breakfast for you?”
“Absolutely not. Can’t eat right now.”
“I’m sorry.” He pauses. “I’m gonna go to the store right now, tell me what you need.” You hear him shuffle around on the other end.
“What I need? Nothing,” you giggle.
“Oh my god my baby mama doesn’t even use shampoo I think I’m the one who has morning sickness now,” you hear him fake gag which makes you laugh harder.
“Grayson, I’ve got little toiletries and stuff. I’ll be fine.”
“I don’t want you to be fine, I want you to be comfortable. Now tell me what I’m buying you because I’m already in the car.”
You list off all the products you use, the snacks have been your favorites, and he even says he’s going to get facemasks for you all to do.
When you pull into the long driveway, the butterflies erupt in your stomach. You had absolutely no clue how this would go, but there was no turning back now. You couldn’t, the driveway was too narrow to do that.
You reach the house and pull up next to the other cars in the driveway. You see Grayson sitting on the porch, which makes you laugh.
You turn the car off and go to gather your things when you hear your door open. You turn and see a giddy Grayson standing there.
“Hey.”
You laugh. “Hi there.”
“Where’s your stuff?”
“My bag is in the back seat.” He moves to grab your bag as you get your purse and hop out of the car, closing your door. He does the same once he’s got your bag on his shoulder.
“Welcome to the humble abode,” he says as he leads you by putting his hand on your back. You walk to the door and he opens it, letting you step in first.
“It is so nice in here.”
“My mom is super into décor and stuff. Wanna see where you’re staying?” You nod and he leads you to a closed door. When you look inside you see a bed next to… the washing and drier machine? You give him a questioning look.
“So we don’t have a guest room and I moved my bed into here because Ethan is annoying and I can’t share a room with him anymore. I’ll sleep on the couch.” You nod, walking inside. “I’m sorry, I know it’s not ideal. Ethan and I are gonna look for our own place when we’re back for the summer.”
“Hey, it’s okay. I’ve slept in way worse place,” you giggle and he raises his brow.
“Alright, won’t ask. Ethan’s been low key dying to see you, even if he won’t admit it. He’s excited to meet his little niece or nephew.”
“Well I can’t deny him of that, can I? Where is he?”
Grayson leads you out into the main area. Ethan’s sitting at the dining table on his computer when he looks up and sees you. He’s immediately jumping up out of his seat.
“Y/N!” He runs over, but is stopped short by Grayson’s hand on his chest.
“Chill, bro. She’s pregnant. Don’t tackle her.”
Ethan rolls his eyes, ignoring him and keeping eye contact with you. “Hi.”
“Hi,” you giggle. He looks at you expectantly. You’re fully laughing now as you grab his hand and put it on your stomach. He’s falling to his knees instantly, his other hand going to the other side of your tummy.
“Hey baby. I know you don’t have ears or anything yet, but this is Uncle E talking to you. You have a whole bunch of people out here waiting for your arrival, but I’m definitely the most excited.” Grayson slaps the back of his head. “Ow. Okay, most excited besides your parents. I’ll be the cool uncle and all that.” He stands back up, looking at you again. “Sorry. Hi, how are you?” He laughs.
“I’m good, how are you?” You giggle.
“Good, yeah,” he nods. You all just stand there for a second looking at one another.
“Okay, we’re getting all the awkward out now because I refuse to be treated like the random hookup who got pregnant. Okay?” You look at the both of them and they look a bit surprised by your boldness. “Sorry, I’ve lost the little filter I had before.”
“You’re right. I’m sorry. Awkward is all gone now. Let’s give you a tour.” Ethan puts an arm around your shoulder and brings you into the kitchen, leaving Grayson where he’s standing. He follows behind you, his hands in his pockets while he watches the both of you interact.
You and Ethan get along really well. After your initial moment, it seems like you’d actually be really good friends. You felt bad for not talking to him more over winter break.
Grayson is not a huge fan. He’s sitting on the sidelines watching you talk and laugh while Ethan tells you all about the new video they’re editing right now. Before Grayson can cut in, Lisa walks in.
She smiles. “You must be Y/N.”
You stand from your chair, giving a soft smile as you wipe your sweaty hands on your leggings. “Hi, Mrs. Dolan. It’s really nice to meet you.” You hold your hand out to her and she laughs, pulling you into a hug.
“Honey, call me Lisa.” She rubs your back before pulling away and holding your elbows to look you in the eyes. “How’re you feeling?”
“Good!”
“Really? That’s good! These two put me through hell when I was pregnant with them. Can I get you anything?” You shake your head.
“No, I’m okay for now.”
“Just trying not to puke?” You laugh and nod. “Yeah, pretty much.”
“I’d know that face anywhere. Your first trimester is almost over, so you should be feeling better soon. Let me know if you need anything, okay?” She squeezes your arms before stepping back.
“Of course. Thank you for letting me stay.”
“This home is as much yours as it is Grayson’s now. You’re welcome here any time.” You smile and nod.
“Alright, you’re all gonna scare her away. Y/N, come see upstairs?” Grayson interjects and a part of you is relieved. Even though things were going really well, you were still on edge. You nod and go to follow him upstairs.
“I’m sorry about that, they just want you to feel comfortable here.” He leads you into a bathroom and shuts the door, making you laugh. “What?”
“The last time we were in this situation I got pregnant.” He starts laughing with you and you let your hand fall onto his shoulder.
Once you calm down, you smile widely at him. “They’re good people. Nice people. I’m sorry if I seem rude or off, I was just so anxious.”
He nods and pulls you into a hug, rubbing your back. You melt into him snuggling into his warm chest.
“It’s okay, they definitely understand. Plus, you didn’t seem anything but positive and happy. I couldn’t even tell you were trying not to puke.” You can feel his laugh rumble up through his chest.
“I’m still trying not to,” you laugh with him and he pulls back holding your shoulders to inspect your face. “I’m not gonna. Probably.” He raises his eyebrow. “Okay, if I do I’ll tell you so you can leave.” His face falls at that.
“No, I’ll sit with you and rub your back and all that. Get you water and stuff.” You’re shaking your head immediately.
“I hate puking in front of people. It’s okay, I’ve been doing it for weeks now. I’ve got a routine.” He pouts and pulls you back into a hug.
“I’m sorry. Please tell me if I can do literally anything for you.”
“You do enough, Gray. Don’t worry about it,” you mumble into his chest.
“What do you usually do to feel better?”
“Anything to distract myself. I just need to not think about it.”
“Challenge accepted.” He removes himself completely from you, opening the door. “Let’s go.”
The rest of the day with the Dolans is great. Grayson was right, you and Lisa are very similar and get along almost as well as you and Ethan do. You’re grateful they’re being so kind to you. Grayson is happy you’re getting along with his family, but it also makes him feel something he hasn’t felt in a while. Jealousy. He doesn’t want to admit that he likes having all of your attention, but he can’t act like he doesn’t want it all the time. When you’re on the phone with him, you’re usually alone. He liked when he got to hear about your day and then he got to open up to you. What can he say, he’s a selfish man.
That’s why when the night is winding down, he asks his family if you guys can watch a movie alone. Lisa goes up to her room for the night, but Ethan isn’t so kind at first.
“What, you don’t want me to crash your date?” He sits beside you on the couch where you’re right next to Grayson. Your cheeks blush and Grayson rolls his eyes.
“Shut the fuck up, E. Go away, you’ve harassed her all day.”
You open your mouth to say something but Ethan beats you to it.
“What if she likes spending time with me? After all, I am the better twin.”
“Bro if you don’t stop talking, I’ll fucking hit you.” “Yeah Gray? Doubt it. Y/N, I don’t blame you for-“ Ethan can’t finish his sentence before Grayson is up and grabbing him by the collar of his shirt to get him to stand up.
“Out. Now.” Ethan holds his hands up in mock surrender as he backs away.
“Fine. I’m out. But, you know. Have a good date. Use protection.” He laughs as he walks up the stairs. You chuckle as Grayson huffs and plops down next to you.
“I fucking hate him sometimes. Sorry.”
“It’s okay, that shit was kind of funny.”
Grayson settles in, remote in one hand and your thigh in the other. “What do you wanna watch?”
“Anything’s fine, I’m pretty tired anyways.” He nods and puts on Someone Great. You’d already seen it, but you didn’t say anything. You’d probably be asleep within ten minutes, anyway.
You were right. You don’t even remember seeing the first five minutes of the movie. You’re slumped on Grayson’s shoulder, snoring softly.
Grayson does everything in his power not to move, not wanting to disturb you. He thought you were cute when you slept.
You’re woken up when you feel Grayson shifting underneath you. You’d moved to be half on top of him in your sleep. You decide to ignore it, hoping you’d just fall back asleep. But, he’s moving under you again.
“Gray?” You mumble, barely audible.
“Sorry, sweet girl. Didn’t mean to wake you.”
“It’s okay. Stop moving.”
“Yeah, okay.” He puts his hands on your torso, shifting you a bit before he stills. That’s when you realize what you hear. There are moans coming from the tv. You open one eye, looking at the screen and sure enough they’re having sex. You giggle a bit.
“Hmm?” Grayson hums, running a hand over your back.
“Did the sex scene make you uncomfy?” This makes him laugh, shaking your body with his.
“No. Not uncomfy.” You suck in a breath at the implication of his words. You think back to what Anna said. Pregnant sex would probably be really hot. But you have no idea if he’d even be interested in that.
“Missing your girls from LA?” You’re asking before you can control your tongue. Your eyes widen as you realize what you’ve said. You might just chop your tongue off completely.
“What?”
“Nothing, was a joke. Let me sleep.” You breathe out, hoping he didn’t hear you.
“Y/N.” He pats your back and then pushing your shoulder to roll you over. He grabs your chin so you have to look at him. “What did you say?”
“I asked if you were missing your LA girls. It was a joke, because of the whole sex scene. Didn’t mean anything by it.” His face looks stone cold, like you’ve made him mad. “I’m sorry.”
“There are no LA girls,” he huffs, rolling his eyes. You raise your eyebrows. “What, do you think I’m a fuck boy or some shit?”
“Well, kinda.”
He looks genuinely shocked at your words, shaking his head. “Y/N, no. Hell no. Even if I was before, not now. There’s no LA girls, and there never have been.” He crosses his arms, completely retracting from you. You sit up.
“Hey, I’m sorry. I know it’s a shitty assumption, but I mean what were we doing? I just thought you did that with everyone.”
He bites his lip, thinking carefully about what he wants to say next.
“I know what we did was only once, but I thought you were a good person. After we left, I kinda looked forward to when I’d see you over the summer whenever Jessie would bring you around. I don’t know what I was thinking or expecting, but it wasn’t a one and done deal. Ethan just really didn’t feel good that morning and made me leave before I could see you.”
You nod, taking this new information in. Of all the things he was going to say, you didn’t expect that. Although, he seems to always be filled with surprises.
“I’m sorry. It was a stupid comment, I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“Have there been any college guys?” He raises a brow.
“What? No. Even if I didn’t feel like a chubby marshmallow or some shit, no. I was…affected by our night together. And not just in the pregnant way.” You lean back next to him, mirror his posture.
“Oh, so you couldn’t stop thinking about my dick?” He smirks at you. You hit his arm and laugh.
“Shut up, that makes it sound so…dirty.”
“If it’s not dirty, then how were you thinking about it?”
“I don’t know. Just knew no one would really meet my expectations like you did.” Your voice is getting quieter and quieter as you feel like you want the couch to swallow you up.
“Yeah? How so?”
“You’re the first guy to make me finish.”
He gasps. “Y/N, no. Liar.”
You shake your head slowly, biting your lip.
“Wow. First guy to make you cum, first guy to impregnate you. I’m on a roll.” He puts his arm around your shoulder as you laugh.
“Oh god, I’m feeding his ego more and more.” You throw your arms up in defeat and he laughs.
“Well, the thought of you getting off to the thought of me this whole time definitely feeds my ego.”
Your cheeks blush as you roll your eyes. “Shut up.”
He laughs harder, pulling you closer to his body. “Nothing to be ashamed of, baby. Your hormones are raging. I’ve heard through the grapevine that pregnant women are horny all the time.”
“The grapevine? Who’s that?” “…Movies.”
“Alright well if you’ve got no LA girls, then you’ve been jerking off to the thought of me, too so I don’t appreciate the mockery.” You finally look at him, pointing your finger at him.
He bites his lips, his cheeks also becoming a dark shade of red. “You’ve caught me red handed.”
You giggle and poke his cheek. “That’s what I thought. Bet your fantasy is all ruined now that I’m getting bigger, though.”
He looks at you genuinely confused. “What?” You look at him with the same look of confusion. “Pregnancy isn’t sexy.”
He laughs. Like genuine, whole hearted laughter. “What are you talking about?” “What are you talking about?” You fire back.
“The fact that you’re pregnant with my baby is the hottest shit ever. I did that shit. We did that shit. It’s hot.”
“We can agree to disagree, then.”
So much for trying to keep things simple, Grayson thinks to himself.
“Let me prove it.”

What Happens in Jersey Pt. 7 | G.D.
A/N - hi y’all! I hope everyone is safe and okay! I decided to post this part for the people who need a distraction from our world right now. So lmk what you think and enjoy!!! Read the last part here
Word Count - 5.8k
Warnings - none
Recap:
“How are you?”
You shrug, letting the warmth of the covers encompass your legs. “Won’t know until he talks to me.”
“You’re going to talk to him?” His eyebrows raise, genuine shock on his face. It’s clear he disapproves of your decision, but you decide to brush over it.
“Of course, he’s my best friend.”
“Your best friend who tried to mess up a relationship that’s important to you because he was selfish.” The bite is back in his tone from earlier today, and you’re not sure what to do.
“Gray, he can’t control how he feels. I told you, he’s one of the most important people in my life, of course I’m going to try and fix this.”
“You’ve got to me fucking kidding me.” He rolls his eyes and you huff, disappointed your night wasn’t over yet.
Something told you he’d be keeping you up for much less fun reasons than last night.
***
No matter what you said, Grayson refused to hear you out. And you were fucking pissed. Not only was he refusing to listen to you, he was acting like he had some type of claim to you, as if he could make you choose between him and Jessie.
“Grayson, stop. I’m tired and it’s late, please can I just sleep and we can talk about it in the morning?” You practically beg, your emotions draining you of the little energy you had left. You felt like you were on the verge of tears and you couldn’t handle him being as cold to you as Jessie had been.
“No! He’s just trying to get to you, Y/N. I don’t like the idea of him being with you at school when I’m not there.” The frustration was clear in his voice, his biceps bulging from crossing against his chest. His jaw was clenching as he gave you a hard look, his gaze refusing to let you go.
“You sound like a fucking animal or some shit, Gray! He would never hurt me or anything, I’ve been fine on my own this whole time and-“
“But you’re not alone now,” he cuts in, not letting you finish your sentence. You go to speak again but he beats you to it. “It’s us and strawberry now, not just you. He’s pulling some childish ass shit like this is high school but it’s not! There’s a baby involved, and he is acting like he can just fucking walk in and try and take you away.” By the end of his rant, his chest is rising up and down and his hands are in his hair, pulling at the tips to try and relieve some of the stress and anger in his body.
“Take me away from what? And I’m well aware there is a baby involved, I’m the one carrying it. I’m not a piece of meat or an incubator for you two to fight over. You’re being just as immature as him,” you argue, the annoyance in your body showing through your tinted cheeks. Your tension headache was back, resting behind your eyes and causing you to close them and pinch the bridge of your nose. You’d always experienced your emotions so physically, and it was a blessing and a curse all at once. Right now, though, it felt like just a curse.
“That’s not what I’m doing! I want what’s best for you, and to keep you happy and healthy.” You could tell he was getting tired too, the conviction in his voice weaker as his shoulders slumped.
“Seems like that’s all you and Jessie say, is that you want what’s best for me but no one has asked what I want! Not even once. Somehow you both think you know me better than me.” For the first time tonight, his face softens as he takes in your words. You decide you don’t want to hear it, though. So, you shuffle off the bed as he watches you.
“Y/N, wait. Where-“
“I’ll sleep on the fucking couch because it’s obvious that this was some fake ass fantasy or something. I should have known better than to think this would work,” you huff without looking back. You can hear his protests until you shut the door, but you continue to ignore him as you walk farther and farther from the laundry room, farther from Grayson. The living room is cold and dark, which makes you stub your toe on the side table. You hiss, grabbing the chair as you do your best to keep quiet. Of course you’d stub your toe after having possibly one of the worst days ever, you couldn’t catch a break.
You grab a blanket once you’re recovered, going to the couch to lay down. That’s when you realize you left your phone charging on the bed. You’d have to lay there doing nothing until you could fall asleep. If you could at all, with your racing thoughts and heart still beating quick in your chest.
It felt like you had lost two really important people in the span of hours. You knew Grayson would always be there, but not because he wanted to. He had to. But you also should have seen it coming. It’s rare life was kind to you, and this was no different. You almost start to get mad at yourself for getting your hopes up, your cheeks continuing to radiate heat. You’re sure if you looked in a mirror you’d see red splotches across them. It made you even more mad that you could never hide how you were feeling, you wish you could just be able to not let anyone read you so easily.
Before you know it, you feel a tear fall from your eye and down to the couch. You do your best to stay quiet as they continue to pour out of you, your new reality sinking in and the fear you felt the day you found out slowly coming back like a brick in your stomach. You prayed your baby never had to feel the way you do right now. You knew they wouldn’t, you’d be there. But it still sucks to know there are people who could hurt them.
***
You spend the early morning in the bathroom, your morning sickness worse than it had been in weeks. When you had woken up it felt like you hadn’t even slept. You had a pain in your neck from the hard pillows on the couch and your back hurt from how tense you still were. Getting sick wasn’t helping, either, but at least you knew how to deal with that.
You only perked up when you hear a knock on the door, your head rolling up from where it rested on your shoulder as your body slumped against the wall. You only managed to hum, words too much right now.
“Y/N?”
Grayson’s voice rings through the bathroom, echoing against the tile and porcelain surrounding you. You feel anxiety wash over you again, unable to comprehend having another conversation with him right now. So you merely hum again, confirming that it’s you in the bathroom without engaging with him.
“Are you okay?”
You’re unsure of how you should answer because physically you weren’t okay right now but you’d be fine. Mentally, you weren’t so positive abuot.
You sigh, doing your best to sit up all the way without the help of the wall. Grayson doesn’t like the silence that follows his question, his impatience shining through as he tries to jiggle the handle.
You roll your eyes, one hand gripping the edge of the toilet as you slowly get your feet underneath you to try and stand.
“Y/N, please let me in.”
“What if I’m shitting?” You snap, your voice weak and raspy from your lack of sleep and still raw from when you last got sick.
“I heard you throwing up, please let me help.” His words are quick to fall from his mouth, his stress more apparent to you now that you were less foggy in the head.
“Don’t need it.” You do your best to sound confident, but to your dismay your voice is weak and tired, a reflection of how you feel.
Grayson pauses, deciding what the best route was with you. You always seemed so resistant to help, and he didn’t want to push you but this is what he does. When he cares about people, he wants to make sure they’re okay if there’s anything he can do about it. Between your conversation – alright, fight – last night and how sick you were this morning, he was truly worried about you. He wasn’t always good with his words and let his jealousy take over last night.
“Remember literally two days ago when I said I’d be there with you for all of this? And you agreed? Please let me in.”
By this time, you’d managed to stand, your vision spotted for a second before you were able to orient yourself. You make your way to the door, and before you can even open it yourself he’s pushing it wide open, his eyes wide as they finally fall on your figure. He can see the way you seem smaller, weaker than normal and his chest hurts because of it.
He had come to learn quickly you were a strong willed, confident person. It took a lot to take you down, yet he had managed to do it in the two days you’d spent together. Guilt slowly worked its way from his heart to consume his whole body. He reaches out to you, trying to bring you into a hug. You put your hands on his chest to stop him, and he reluctantly respects your boundaries.
“Y/N, what’s wrong?” A baffled laughed passes your chapped lips as you grab the door with one hand, leaning on the door frame so that you can have some type of support as you box him out of the room.
“I’m tired, I feel sick, I’m emotionally drained, and I need a shower. And stop giving me the fucking pity eyes.”
Grayson sighs, his gaze falling from you and finding the ground. He fidgets in front of you, unsure of what to do. He doesn’t pity you but he does want to help.
“I’m done, so if you-“
“Done?” He feels his stomach drop to his ass the moment the words leave your lips. Yeah, he’d been selfish and a bit douchey, but you knew he could be like that sometimes. He didn’t think you’d just end it, not that fast.
“Done puking, I just need some water.”
As soon as he hears your explanation, relief releases his tense muscles a bit.
He nods, resisting the urge to rub your cheek or squeeze your hip before backing up. “Do you want to come downstairs with me?”
Your mouth opens to respond, but no words come out. Honestly, you want nothing more to sit on the couch or in his bed, blankets surrounding you as you do your best to rest. But, you truly weren’t sure if you could get down the stairs. It was hard enough dragging your legs to the bathroom door, and downstairs was a lot farther than that.
Grayson raises his brow, still waiting for a response. He had taken a step away from you to start walking, but stopped when he noticed your lack of an answer to his question.
“I’ll, uh, I’ll just stay in here.” You nod, as if it would make sense to hang out in the bathroom even though you’d already told him you weren’t going to be sick again.
“What’s happening, please tell me,” Grayson begs softly, the concern coming back through his body as he watches you contemplate your words carefully.
“I just,” you shrug, your brain foggy once again as it has to work hard to talk to him, “I’m tired.”
“So then come lay down on the couch, I’ll bring you some water,” he reasons.
You shake your head, unable to look at him. Admitting weakness was hard enough, but after last night it felt impossible to do with him.
“Why not?” He does his best not to get frustrated, or sound it at least.
“Too tired,” you mumble, forcing the words out so you could end the conversation as soon as possible.
“Too tired to go downstairs?” You simply nod, grateful he finally got what you were saying.
Before you could comprehend what was happening, he’s walking back to you and reaching around to turn off the lights. He wraps an arm under yours, his hand finding your waist like it was meant to be there always. Your arm falls from the door to hold his shoulder as you give in, the idea of being on the couch too pleasant to pass up.
He guides you slowly and after every step you continue to lean on him more and more. He was warm and strong, the totally opposite of how you felt right now. It annoyed you he could still make you feel good even when he’d pissed you off, he shouldn’t hold that power over you already.
He gets you situated on the couch, watching you put the blanket over your lap. He looks about ready to speak, but decides against it and getting you a glass of water instead. When he comes back, you graciously accept it with a small smile, the cool condensation on the cup managing to make your head clear a bit.
Grayson stands awkwardly near you, fiddling with his fingers as he debates whether or not to sit with you. After a minute of watching you sip your water, he lets himself get comfortable on the couch, a good foot or two between you two.
You keep your gaze at the blank TV, letting the water soothe your throat. You’re sure your eyes were still puffy from crying last night, but you hope he thinks it’s related to being pregnant or something.
“So are we just not gonna talk about it?” His gruff voice comes from deep within his chest, like he didn’t want the words to come out.
“What’s there to say?” You can’t even bring yourself to look at him as you say it, knowing that no matter his reaction, you’d be disappointed.
“Y/N,” he sighs and you hear him shifting to turn to you. “I’m sorry.”
You nod, biting your lip and continuing to act like the rest of the room is so much more interesting than looking at him. Even if he means it, you’re not sure what to say. All you expected was to be treated with respect, and you feel like he didn’t do that. How would he treat your kid? You just didn’t know him well enough to trust he won’t, and it made you feel sick to your stomach.
Once Grayson realizes you’re not going to respond verbally, he reaches out to grab your forearm lightly. You pull away, taking another drink of water.
“Y/N, come on.”
You roll your eyes, your anger quickly building again.
“What, Grayson? You apologize once for making me feel like shit for caring about my friend because you’re jealous so now I have to forgive you and act like everything is good? We’ve barely known each other for a few months, not even two. How am I supposed to know this won’t be my life forever with you? And our baby? You don’t own me or get to control me just because I’m pregnant with your kid. So I don’t have anything to say right now, not until I know that’s not you.” You shake your head, disappointed you even have to be saying this to him at all.
As the silence drags on after your words slowly ring in both of your ears, you finally look at him. He looks smaller, less like the tan, buff, LA douche you were used to seeing. He was exhausted, his arms wrapped around his torso as if to hug himself as he let each of your words sink into him.
He didn’t know what to say to make you feel otherwise because he gets it. From your point of view, he looks like an asshole who only cares about keeping you to himself. And a teeny tiny part of him knew that was a little bit true. He didn’t like the idea of your being with anyone else. But he also knew you were right about the fact that you barely knew each other and that you truly didn’t know that that he was different. He was shit at understanding his emotions sometimes and even worse at expressing them.
“You’re right,” he sighs, deciding that admitting he was wrong would be a good start at least.
Your mouth opens to bite back, but you immediately close it when you hear his admission rather than a defense. “I sounded like a dick last night. I let my emotions get the best of me, which is something that happens a lot. I didn’t mean to make it sound like I wanted to control you, I don’t want to.”
You can slowly feel the tension in your chest unravel, your muscles relaxing a bit. You slump more into the couch, resting your head on the top to look at him sideways. You weren’t ready to go back to how you were, but it was nice to know he could at least admit when he was wrong. And he was definitely communicating more than the other guy who’d thrown a wrench in your friendship.
It had been total radio silence from Jessie since last night. You assumed it would stay like that for a bit, until he was ready to talk so you were going to give him space. You just hoped that would be before graduation.
“Well, good,” you huff, still doing your best to sound pissed even though you’re just tired now.
“Wanna have a nap?” He asks.
You purse your lips, unsure of what to say. Honestly, you’d love to sleep for another ten hours, but you weren’t sure you wanted to sleep with him again.
“The sheets are new, I can make you some food while you sleep,” he offers.
“I’ll sleep, but you don’t have to cook anything for me. Not into the idea of food right now.” He doubted that you meant it, knowing how much you hated his help, but by the look on your face you meant your words. You’d unintentionally let a look of disgust take over your features at the thought of eating anything.
He nods, standing and holding a hand out to you to help you stand. You take it reluctantly, standing and grabbing your water. He takes the almost empty cup from you after letting go of your hand. You can feel the empty presence all too fast again when he walks away, hating how you missed the feeling of him being near you.
Before you let it consume you, you walk to the laundry room and get comfy in his covers. If he was gonna let you be in here, you were gonna make the most of it. He walks back in with your water and places it on the bed side table.
“Thank you,” you mumble, looking up at him.
He smiles at you, his cheeks turning pink at the thoughts that immediately run through his mind. You looked absolutely adorable, his comforter up to your chin seeing as you had cocooned yourself in his blankets. You were cute and in his bed and it overwhelmed him.
“Don’t worry about it. Now please rest.”
And that’s what you did. You spent most of the day and night relaxing, hanging out with Ethan a bit in the afternoon but otherwise that was it. Some of the awkwardness had lifted from around you and Grayson, but there was still a lot of apprehension between the both of you. If you didn’t know where you stood before, you definitely had no clue now.
So when you had to leave for school the next morning it was bitter sweet. You were going to miss both the twins, but you were excited to get back to your apartment with people you loved and just an environment your felt comfortable in. It was much easier to act like everything was normal there.
***
You’d practice doing this since you were young. It was a response to anything that could hurt you. You run, avoid, ignore anything that can hurt you. You shut it out to protect yourself, the pain you’ve experienced already enough for at least ten people. It became a habit at that point. So when people had the potential to hurt you, you shut down completely. You’d avoid them, create distance, put up a wall to try and maintain some type of happiness.
And Grayson was no different.
Your last few months were busy at school, sure, but you couldn’t lie and say that was why you barely spoke to him. You shut him out, kept yourself protected from anything else he could do to hurt you.
It was hard at first. He’s irresistible, and not just in a physical way (although that didn’t help with all your hormones). He was charming and funny and just an enjoyable person to be around. But everything he’d said to you when you had been with him in the city and that night rang through your mind whenever you questioned what you were doing. You were merely doing what was best for yourself. Right?
So daily facetimes went to phone calls a few times a week, texts became about baby tips he found online, Pinterest recipes to help relieve your seemingly constant heartburn, and once in a while updates about his life. A small part of you was happy the hard thing had already happened. He could go back to his LA life and start acting how he would once your baby was born.
Right now you were more focused on your friendship with Jessie. It had taken him two weeks to talk to you, and it had felt like the longest two weeks of your life. But finally he came over and explained everything he had been feeling. He apologized for what happened in Jersey, and things almost went back to normal. You didn’t see him as much and things were still a bit awkward, but you were friends. And that’s all you could want right now.
When graduation rolled around, you were pretty happy again. You’d even been able to find a loose dress to hide your stomach that looked a little bit bigger than when you’d joke around with your friends about being pregnant after a big meal, pushing your stomach out and laughing together. Except you were really pregnant this time, and you weren’t forcing your tummy out at all. If anything, you did everything you could to hide it. That meant dresses everyday no matter what.
You’d had to tell your roommates, because you weren’t about to stop wearing comfy clothes when you were home. They were all beyond excited and made you happy to have a banana sized baby growing in you.
It only became strikingly obvious when you were celebrating graduation a week later at Jessie’s house with his family and friends, a gathering in the backyard as the warm May sun shone down on you all. You were grateful for the fact that another flowy dress would be appropriate for the party, but not having even one drink to celebrate something you’d worked so hard to accomplish? People were catching on, and fast.
Jessie’s mom was the first one to ask you something. You decided it was about time to start telling people, your 20-week mark only a couple of days away.
Before she could do more than congratulate you, an all too familiar voice called your name from behind you. You turned to see Grayson, trailed by Ethan and their mom.
You were completely frozen, unsure of what to do or say. Sure, you’d been talking on the phone a couple times a week, but you always kept it short and about the baby. You don’t even remember what you had told Grayson about your mended friendship with Jessie and if he knew you’d be here or not.
In what seems like a flash you’re now alone with him, Jessie’s mom busying herself with Ethan and Lisa.
“Hi.”
Somehow his greeting is more awkward than the first time you met him. Or the first time you saw him when you’d been pregnant with the baby. This was definitely the worst one so far, and you hated it. It didn’t sit well with you.
“Hey,” you murmur, your heart rate picking up as you fiddle with your hands in front of you.
“You look…” His eyes fall to your stomach that is more pronounced due to the way your arms almost frame it, the color of your yellow sundress almost making you glow in his eyes.
“Fat? Bloated? Like I could float away like a balloon?” You suggest.
His eyes widen, his hands coming up to physically show his disagreement. “No, not at all. Pregnant, yeah. But also really good.”
You nod, a tight smile on your lips as you watch the rest of the party continue. A part of you wished you could be like the rest of them, their lives going as planned while you stood here with your baby daddy who you were friendly with? Friends even? But you wanted more? But you also didn’t.
Well, you did but you were scared. But it’s easier to say you don’t. That’s what you’d told your roommates, that you weren’t interested in him. Payton saw right through it, of course, but didn’t question you.
“Can we talk somewhere else?” You knew you should have seen in coming, but it still made you want to shit bricks when he asked you that.
“Yeah, sure. No bathrooms, though.”
Your joke makes him chuckle, your spirits lifting a bit at that. It gave you the tiniest bit of hope that this wasn’t how it always had to be with him, that one day you guys could do more than just be awkward.
He brings his hand to your lower back to guide you into the house. He brings you to a guest room, the one you were staying in. You wondered if he knew you’d be in this room, but you’re sure he just knew this was a place you could be alone.
“When’s our next appointment?” He asks, and you cringe.
You’re unsure of how you feel about how he asked that. You’re grateful he was involved, and that he cared. It’s more than you expected originally. However, he gets to ride through this relatively unscathed. You’re the one getting poked and prodded, growing a baby in the first place. Especially with the distance over the past few months, it felt like he was less involved than you’d originally anticipated. You have been prepping for it to be you and your baby alone, and he’d pop in whenever he was free. But for him to come in and just assume it was a “we” and “our” situation when he decided to show up wasn’t sitting well with you.
“Wednesday, the 13th.”
He nods, sitting on the edge of the bed and resting his elbows on his knees to support his jaw with his hands. “Is it the appointment we find out the baby’s gender? I googled it was supposed to be the 20 week appointment, but what’d the doctor say last time?”
He’d missed the last appointment over Easter, and you had gone alone. Again, not surprising and it didn’t feel good. But, he had life in LA to attend to.
“We can if we want to, yeah.”
“Do you want to?”
You stop fiddling with your fingers, your gaze falling to him. “Not really, no.”
He lifts his head to look at you, his brows raised in surprise. “Really?”
You nod. “Gender reveals and stuff are stupid. I’m not dressing our baby based on their gender or decorating their room by it or anything. I just want a healthy, happy baby. Boy or girl,” you shrug, bending your arms to wrap them around your stomach somewhat protectively.
He takes in a deep breath, considering your words.
“I feel a bit dumb now.”
A short giggle leaves your lips breathlessly as you quirk your brow. “Why?”
He groans, falling back onto the bed and covering his face with his hands, dragging them over his skin as he puts off his answer as long as possible.
“I might, uh, might have already started a Pinterest board for gender reveal ideas.”
Before you can control it, your laughter bubbles up out of your chest. The idea of the broad man laid out in front of you sitting hunched over his computer and adding probably some of the weirdest gender reveals he could find to his long list of gathered ideas. You wondered if he had a funny name for it, or if he just called in gender reveal.
“I can’t lie, I’m just not into it. We could just have a normal baby shower, still. I’m sure there’s plenty of Pinterest content for that.” Another groan falls from Grayson before he sits up again, facing you. His cheeks are pink and his shoulder are slumped as he looks at you, his eyes falling to your stomach.
“You’re right, and we can still play so many of the stupid games like pin the umbilical cord on the baby.”
You immediately start laughing again, gripping the dresser for support as you cover your mouth with your free hand. “Grayson what the fuck is in your search history?”
“Shut up, I’m excited,” he pouts, but it’s clear he’s trying to hide a smile.
You two settle down and the air quickly becomes tense again. You stood there awkwardly as he picked at his shorts.
“So…”
You look up at the sound of his voice, waiting for him to continue.
“What are you doing now that you’ve graduated?”
Ah yes, the question you’ve somehow managed to dodge with vague answers this whole time. Really, you had no clue. Jessie had said you could live with him until you got yourself on your feet, and you had been applying to jobs this whole time. However, for every phone interview you got and asked about maternity leave, you somehow never got a call back again. You decided you didn’t want to work somewhere that didn’t value the health and family members of their employees, but that narrowed your findings down to basically nothing.
You had money saved from working through high school and college, but not enough to support yourself and a baby until you could go to work and afford a nanny. It was looking a bit grim, to say the least.
You shrug, turning to face the mirror to watch yourself speak rather than to look at him. “Not sure, been applying for jobs but nothing’s panned out.”
“Are you trying to work in the city?”
“Yeah, most opportunities there.”
“Starting after the baby is born, right?”
You turn back, raising a brow. You know you had talked about that when you first found out you were pregnant, but that just wasn’t realistic now. As in, now you were in reality and not a fictional fairy tale where a prince charming named Grayson Dolan swoops you off your feet and brings you to his lavish castle to dote on your every need.
“What?” He can see the thoughts racing through your mind and he’s desperate to know what you were thinking. You always did this, had about a million thoughts and said maybe one of them.
“Can’t just wait until then, I’m not a freeloader. I need money to live, to raise the baby once they’re born. Save for a nanny so I can work in the first place.”
He shakes his head at that, his face hardening. “No nanny, we can raise our baby on our own.”
You scoff, crossing your arms. “How?”
“I told you, you don’t have to worry about any of that stuff. I got it covered.”
“Oh yeah? So, you just get us an apartment for me and the baby to live in while you live it up in LA and I’m here alone with our kid? Do you really think that of me?”
“Y/N, no,” he defends, standing up. “I’m – I’m working on it, okay? Stop insisting you’re alone, and that you’re going to be alone. You’re not, I’m here.”
You roll your eyes, running your tongue over your teeth to try and decide how you want to go about this. How can he still make it sound like everything will be fine?
“I won’t be alone when it’s convenient for you, but what happens the rest of the year?” You challenge.
The vein in his neck bulges and he looks like he’s doing everything he can to contain his anger. “Why are you so set on me being the bad guy, Y/N? You’re the one who pushed me away and stopped sharing your life with me, you’re then one who sounds like she doesn’t want me here. I’ll literally move back to Jersey full time if that’s what’s best for us!”
“Because you can’t! That’s not your life, you have to be in LA, you and Ethan both do. And I can’t invest myself in you knowing that your life will never be here, with us. I have to protect myself, and our baby.”
Your words clearly affect him, the hurt shooting across his face. His eyes refuse to leave you, his hands reaching out to you.
“Y/N, no. You don’t have to protect yourself from me.”
You step back, your back hitting the dresser as you try to keep some type of distance between you guys.
“Of course I do. We spent, like, two days together and you expected me to drop my best friend for you. If us raising a baby together would have worked, we would have found a groove by now. We would have to respect each other, and our separate lives, to join together to raise this baby. But you can’t even recognize how your life will impact our baby and how I can’t just shape my life to make you comfortable.”
He sucks a breath in, his thoughts racing through his head a mile a minute. He had no clue how much you’d misinterpreted what happened with Jessie and how much you were unaware of how flexible he could be with his job and how much him and Ethan were looking to come back to the east coast anyways. And most importantly, he had no idea you were unaware of how much he cared about you, your happiness, health, and well-being.
But before he can say any of that, you’re walking towards the door.
‘Y/N-“
“No. It’s Jessie’s fucking graduation party, we’re not going to ruin it.”
And with that you were out the door, not even looking back at him.

Recap:
“What, you think I one and done-d you again?” He laughs at his own joke, but stops when he realizes you’re not laughing. “Y/N, I wouldn’t do that. Not again at least. I regretted doing it the first time before I knew you were pregnant. I stayed the whole night, and I promise to do it again tonight.”
“Oh you think you’re getting into my pants again tonight?” He’s grateful for your humor coming back, his shoulders relaxing. He didn’t want to hurt your feelings.
“No, just meant I’d cuddle you all night if you’ll let me. Not that I’d complain if there were no pants.”
Your giggles are cut off by Jessie. “Can I talk to you, Y/N?”
***
Your gaze meets Jessie, and he looks smaller than normal. Almost like he expected rejection.
You nod, looking up at Grayson with a small smile as you give him a gentle push to move him ahead of you. He goes reluctantly, his eyes only leaving yours once he looks at Jessie, a tight smile on his lips before he falls in step beside Ethan.
The warmth missing from Grayson being against you made you shiver as Jessie began walking next to you. You open your mouth to talk but he beats you to it.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.” You can tell he’s being genuine, the worry still written in the way his eyebrows are pulled together. He’s only watching your face, not where you’re walking which causes him to almost walk into multiple people and even a trash can, but he didn’t really care.
You sigh, shrugging your shoulders. “I just don’t get it, J. You’re friends with him, good friends. And you’re my best friend. I don’t want to stress about this shit when I need to be focusing on my baby.” It felt good to get that off your chest, especially when you’re used to being on the same page as him. Honesty has always been a staple in your friendship from the beginning.
He nods, taking your words in and finally looking away from you to give himself a moment to think. He knew you were right, and as much he wanted to protect his ego he knew he couldn’t do that with you. Even if he tried, you’d see right through it.
“I don’t know what happened, I didn’t mean to ruin your day or anything, I just-“ he pauses, almost like the words he was about to say were caught in his throat, unable to make their way out. You look expectantly at him, your brows raised as you crossed your arms to try and warm yourself up. Now that the sun was down, the temperature outside was much colder than earlier in the day and a part of you wished you had worn a warmer jacket.
He puts his arm around your shoulder, pulling you next to him and rubbing up and down to try and create some heat for you while he shakes his head. “Nothing.”
“Liar,” you retort, your tone harsh but your face soft, not wanting him to feel intimidated. He usually was able to tell you everything, and you thought this should be no different.
He huffs, rolling his eyes. “Not gonna let me be, are you?”
“Never,” you giggle, watching his jaw clench. It was obvious he didn’t want to say what he was thinking, but at this point you really didn’t care. You were tired and were finally able to have a good part of the night, and you just wanted to know why he wasn’t happy.
“I’m worried about you and Grayson,” he mumbles, and you think if it hadn’t been this late at night you wouldn’t have been able to hear him over the other noises of the city.
“Jess, I know you are. Probably almost as much as I am, but we’re going to be in each other’s lives forever now, and I would like it to be good for us rather than sufferable. I push everyone away when I get scared of letting them in, but I don’t really have a choice this time. And he’s been really nice and helpful, you’ve seen all the care packages and stuff, and he was good at the doctor and even has me staying with him,” you defend yourself, and Grayson, annoyance starting to poke through your neutral tone. You had this conversation about once a week with him, and it was getting old.
“I think you need to talk to him and figure out your relationship with him so you can move forward however you need,” he argues, the same attitude from earlier popping out again. He was getting frustrated, and you had no idea why because it wasn’t his relationship to begin with.
“Why are you so persistent about that? I’ve only known him, like, three and a half months. I don’t want to bring it up too soon and make things awkward before we even know if we can be anything more than friends.” His face scrunches up the more you speak, your words leaving a bitter taste in his mouth. He looked like he just ate ten warheads, his forehead wrinkled and his lips puckered. “Oh my god, you’re so dramatic. What’s wrong with that?”
“It’s just, I’ve never really known Grayson to have long term relationships. You don’t deserve to get hurt by him. You deserve way better than that.”
“You can’t protect me from the world, Jess. Grayson and I have to figure it all out together, and you shouldn’t be making it harder. Whatever happens, I know I’ll have you by my side. It just didn’t feel like it today, which is what made me sad.”
Jessie stops walking, turning you to face him. His hands held your shoulders so you stood right in front of him, your eyes on one another. “Y/N, I will always be on your side, forever. I let my own emotions get in the way today, but I will never not be on your side. Promise.” He holds his hand up, his pinky out and expecting to meet yours. You can’t help the smile that spreads across your face as you link your pinkies.
“Love you, Jess.” You hook your arm in his, your elbows linked as you face forward again. Before he can say anything else, you notice Ethan and Grayson are no longer in your sight. “Oh no.”
“What?”
“We’ve lost them,” you giggle, going up on your tippy toes to see if you can spot them, but your lack of height makes it impossible to see over the heads of the other pedestrians in the street no matter what.
“We’re headed to the same place, I’m sure they’ll wait at the front entrance for us.” He starts to walk and you do your best to keep up with him, your arms still linked.
“Hope so, they’re our ride back to the house,” you hum, your body physically staying next to Jessie but your thoughts making you float into space. You weren’t sure why Jessie was so against you and Grayson because he’d been super into you doing what you wanted, and was usually supportive of your decisions. He was acting territorial, and you hated it. You hoped he would cool it after your conversation, which seemed to have gone well.
When you get to Penn Station, you and Jessie both look around for the boys. You don’t spot them and you begin freak out a little bit. Had they really not noticed you guys not behind you the whole time?
“Maybe they’re waiting by the track,” Jessie suggests, his voice much calmer than you’re sure you’d sound right now.
You nod and follow him, letting yourself trail behind him a bit to look around you still. You can feel your heart quickening in your chest as anxiety settle over you. You were sure Jessie would be able to get you home fine, but you were kind of looking forward to going home with Grayson. And the thought of him not even looking for you once while you spoke to Jessie kind of hurt. Maybe Jessie had been kind of right.
Before you can even comprehend what was happening, there were hands around your torso picking you up and pulling you away from Jessie. Before you could scream, you felt a big hand come to cover your mouth. Panic took over your whole body, your eyes stuck on Jessie.
Before you could try and wiggle free, the person behind you leans in to whisper in your ear, “I gotcha.”
Grayson’s voice immediately calms you, your body relaxing against his as you start to laugh against his hand. He removes it, your head rolling back onto his shoulder as you try to look back at him. “You fucking scared me.”
Grayson pouts, giving you one more squeeze before removing his arms from around you so you could all keep walking. You notice Jessie walking ahead, Ethan watching you both with an amused smile.
“Didn’t mean to, thought it would be funny.”
“It was. After I knew I wasn’t getting kidnapped.” Your giggles begin to die down as your heart slows a bit.
“When we noticed you guys falling back we knew we had to. Can’t pass up an opportunity like that,” Ethan comments, clearly satisfied that their mini prank worked.
“Would’ve been funnier if we weren’t in the middle of a place where people definitely can get taken,” Jessie mumbles, his amusement less present as compared to the other boys.
“Oh, Jess, it’s fine. We both know it takes stupid jokes like that to entertain them,” you joke, pointing at the brothers.
Grayson scoffs next to you, his hand going to his heart as if he can feel your insult. “Excuse you, we have incredible jokes. Top notch, can’t find anything better,” he defends, but the smile is still wide on his face.
“Oh, sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night.” You pat his arm as you finally reach the track, entering the train.
“You think I’m fucking hilarious and you know it, you liar,” Grayson teases back. You roll your eyes but don’t argue because he’s right, he’s funny when he wants to be.
You quickly became distracted again with what should be an easy decision, yet that had been made difficult since this morning. You now had to pick sitting next to Jessie or sitting across from him to sit with Grayson. It shouldn’t even matter, but with annoyance so clear on Jessie’s face again you knew you were going to disappoint one of them.
You choose to take the empty seat. If Jessie wants to throw a fit after a pinky promise, he can fight you on this damn train if he wants.
“I really thought you guys had left us in the dust,” you mumble to Grayson as he settles in next to you. The smile on your face made him feel a bit better, but he still felt guilty for scaring you. He thought you would find it funny to surprise you like that.
“Leave you? No, wouldn’t do that.” You can tell he means it, his facial features showing the genuine fear he’d feel if he left you in the city.
“Good. Didn’t feel like walking back to your house from the train station,” you chuckle, trying to lighten the mood for the both of you. You weren’t sure what to take from his words. Sure, it could just mean that he wouldn’t leave you in Penn Station, but what about in general?
“Wouldn’t let it happen. Not for you or strawberry.” His hand comes over to your stomach, resting there. It seemed to calm him every time he did it even though he was really just feeling your tummy because your baby was still so small. It’s the idea of it all, you assume.
The first half of the train ride was pretty chill. You almost felt like you could fall asleep at this point, the day catching up to you quickly. Your head was on Grayson’s shoulder and your eyes were close when you heard him speak up.
“Jess? You good?” You didn’t move from your position, your eyes remaining closed, but you knew exactly what Grayson is talking about. He’d had a puss on his face since you’d all sat down, unwavering up until when your eyes closed. You’re sure it stilled remained on his face, but you didn’t have the energy to do anything about it.
“Yeah,” he mumbles, and you can hear him shift.
“This is fucking stupid guys, stop being idiots. It’s annoying to me which means it’s ten times more annoying to Y/N,” Ethan pipes up, and you feel grateful. He was right, you were sick of how they acted today. You decide to stay where you are so that they can finally talk.
“I know you Gray, I’ve known you a long time. You can’t hurt her like that, she’s too good for that. That’s why I’m fucking annoyed.”
You can feel Grayson huff, but he does his best not to move so that you don’t wake up. Because you were definitely asleep right now, not listening to them talk about you.
“I’m not gonna, she’s having my fucking baby. Why are you so jealous, anyways? You’ve had your chance with her for literally, what, two years? You even told me about her before New Year’s and how I should talk to her. Don’t get mad she’s into it,” he defends himself. Ethan chuckles, very clearly amused about information he had. “What?” You can hear the frustration in Grayson’s tone and can only assume he’s talking to Ethan now.
“He’s already tried, what, like five times?” Ethan begins, but you hear someone get a hit and can only suppose it was Ethan getting hit by Jessie from the grunt you hear. It was becoming much harder to keep up your act, your curiosity making you itch to know what Ethan was talking about. You feel Grayson’s hand move to your knee, the warmth of his palm making you feel a bit better.
“What are you talking about?”
You’re grateful for Grayson’s question because you’re probably just as lost as him.
“Nothing,” Jessie huffs as Ethan continues to laugh.
“Bro, you literally were trying to date her when you were still fucking,” Ethan teases and you feel Grayson tense against you immediately.
“Dude, shut up,” Jessie practically yells at Ethan, making you flinch and giving you away. You decide to try and play it cool, slowly rising and opening your eyes. You look between all three of the boys, assessing the situation. Grayson looked shocked as his gaze was now on you, his face unreadable. Ethan’s smile was fading as he realized that he not only dropped a pretty big bomb, but he did it on a train. A train you were all going to be trapped on before you had to get in the car together. And Jessie, well he looked absolutely terrified.
You decided you didn’t want to be the first one to speak, still too tired to really be dealing with all of this right now.
“You and Jessie used to be a thing?” Grayson asks you, his emotions still hidden deep inside him, hidden from you. You didn’t like that you couldn’t read him and that he wasn’t opening up to you, you felt like that’s all he had done since you started talking to him.
You shake your head, leaning back against the side of the train to face him better as your arms crossed over your chest. “No, we just…” you shrug, unsure of how to define what you and Jessie were before you were friends. A hookup feels too crude for how much you care about him now, but you didn’t have any feelings for him then or now.
“Come on Y/N, don’t fucking lie,” Jessie spits, clearly hurt by how casual you were being.
You raise your brow, turning to look at him. “I’m not! We had sex a few times but we realized we were better off as friends.” You can feel your cheeks heating up due to the fact that not only were you having this conversation, but you were having it in a car that was relatively quiet. Everyone else was sitting and appeared to be minding their own business, but you were sure they were listening. Hell, you would if you weren’t the topic of conversation.
Jessie rolls his eyes. “Why do you keep lying? You literally said we were waiting for the right time.” He’s leaning his elbows on his knees now, his entire body facing you.
“What are you talking about?” The genuine confusion in your voice seems to shock him for a second, but his face soon returns to the rather frustrated look it had before.
“That night after your semi, when your date got too drunk so you came to mine. You said it just wasn’t our time and shit like that.”
You were uncontrollably laughing, the strap of your dress hanging against the side of your arm as you laid in Jessie’s bed. One of your hands laid on your stomach while the other was raised above your head.
Jessie was on his side next you, his head in his hand and an amused grin plastered on his face.
“Shoulda brought me instead, would have had more fun,” he quips.
You shake your head. “No, I wanted to bring a date, not a friend.”
He looks a bit taken aback, but he’s sure you’re way too drunk to notice any change. “You do this shit with all your friends?”
You shrug, your head flopping to the side to look at him. “Some of them.”
He laughs at your honesty, your answer surprising him a bit. “So we’re just friends?”
You nod eagerly, your smile wide. “Of course we’re friends, stupid. I feel like our time will come if we’re forty and both still not married or something.” You laugh, remembering all the other times you’ve said that before to your friends. At this rate, you were going to be a reverse sister-wife with ten husbands if you don’t find someone to marry.
“I can wait,” he jokes, watching your cheeks blush a bit.
“I appreciate you, Jess. Good kid.” You pat his shoulder the best you can, your arm feeling heavy due to the alcohol still coursing through your veins.
“Jessie.” You almost laugh, but know that would be mean. “It was a joke marriage pact when I was eight shots of tequila deep.”
“How was it a joke? You literally said you were gonna marry me.”
“If we’re both single at forty, I literally have maybe a dozen people I’ve said that to. It’s just something you say, I didn’t mean it literally.”
He leans back against his chair, his hands now rubbing over his face. Ethan is clearly very uncomfortable watching the whole thing go down and Grayson is speechless. The fact that you and Jessie had slept together before made his blood boil, and more importantly he had been right. Jessie was trying to get to you, the woman pregnant with his baby, this whole time. A part of him is angry at you for not realizing it sooner, but he decides you guys can talk about that later.
Silence fills the air around you again as no one really knows what to say. Your gaze is still on Jessie, your heart almost aching for him. You had no idea he’d felt this way the whole time, and you had probably made it worse. You’d been loving him as a friend, and it may have come across as something else if he was trying to pursue you that whole time.
“Jess, look at me.” He lifts his head, his eyes meeting yours reluctantly. “I love you and care for you so much. As a friend. You’re one of the most important people in my life, and I’ve already told you that today. I’m sorry if I-“
Before you can finish, he stands up, moving to go to a different car. You watch him walk away, your body showing your disappointment just as much as your face as you slump back, defeated.
“I think I should go and…you know…” Ethan stands and follows the direction Jessie went without another glance back.
You can feel your heart beat quicken as you realize what just happened. You might have just lost your best friend, and you weren’t sure what to do. You can feel the anxiety shooting through your limbs as panic sets in, your mouth dry as you try to swallow, your mouth opening to allow yourself to get oxygen in.
“Hey, hey look at me.” You can feel Grayson’s hands on either side of your face as he forces you to look at him. “Everything’s gonna be okay.”
A sarcastic laugh slowly bubbles from your throat at his words, tears beginning to gather on your waterline. “How? Literally how?”
He takes a breath in, clearly trying to think of what to respond with. “Because I’ll be there and everything always works out, right?” He doesn’t sound convinced of his own words, and it’s very clear he was just trying anything to calm you down.
But how could he say that? Jessie had been there through everything with you the past few years, and especially the past few months. Getting to know Grayson has been really nice and a relief, really, and although you were excited about it, Jessie was the one you always thought you could rely on to be there. He always had your best interest in mind and you knew that even if you and Grayson never worked out he’d be there. Or, that’s what you had thought.
“Grayson, he’s my best friend. He was, like, the one person who was going to be there for everything. I don’t have a lot of people like that in my life. Nothing’s going to be okay.” Your head is shaking back and forth in his hands that still rest on your face, his thumbs rubbing your cheeks. He could feel the heat radiating from them, almost like he could feel your emotions and it hurt him how much you were hurting right now.
Instead of responding with words, he decides to bring you into his chest when he sees a single tear fall down your cheek, wetting his hand. You quickly cuddle into his body, letting your muscles relax from the pure exhaustion you feel. You don’t even have the energy to truly cry, which you’re kind of thankful for because you’re still on the train.
Grayson wraps an arm around your shoulder to keep you close to him, the other stroking your hair to try and comfort you as a few more silent tears fall onto his own clothes where your face lies.
“We’re gonna have to sit in the car with him,” you mumble quietly into him, the reality of the immediate situation sinking in.
“Huh?” He asks, his voice gentle like he’s almost scared to hear what you have to say.
You lift your head a bit and sniffle, your eyes meeting his. “We’re gonna have to ride in the car with him.”
“I’ll get him an Uber,” Grayson responds, bringing his hand from the back of your head back to your face to trace the lines on your skin from his clothes.
You laugh, shaking your head. “No, that’s stupid. His car is at yours.”
“So then he can Uber to the house and pick his car up, I don’t care.” The conviction in his voice makes you laugh more, your face turning into his shoulder.
“It’s okay, we can just play the music really loudly.”
He laughs at that, nodding his head. “Okay, but it has to be songs we all know so we can sing instead of talk.” Your giggle dies out as you remember why you’d have to do that in the first place. “Hey, nothing you can change about it tonight, okay? So we’re gonna go home and I can run you a bath or something and just try and relax.” You feel his thumb come to rub between your eyebrows, assumedly to smooth the lines there. You let your face go back to normal, his touch calming you.
He managed to keep you calm the rest of the way, but your anxiety picked up again when you were forced to get off at your stop. You weren’t sure what to say, or if you were supposed to say anything at all.
Everyone seemed to have the same hesitation, the silence on your walk to the car almost louder than if you had been talking. Grayson kept close to you and in-between you and Jessie, Ethan acting as a second barrier. You had no idea what they had spoken about when they were gone and you almost had no interest in finding out. You weren’t sure how much Ethan knew about you and Jessie but it made you uncomfortable. Especially if it wasn’t nice stuff.
You sat in the same seats you rode in on the way there, Grayson handing you his phone with a small smile on his face. You find a throwbacks playlist and decide that should have enough songs you all know, the comfort of familiar music hopefully easing the tense air of the car.
You don’t think you’ve ever been in the car this quiet in your life. Not even when you were alone, you’d at least talk to yourself a bit.
You only feel a bit of relief once you’re pulling down their driveway, almost like the end of today is finally here. It’s felt like a rollercoaster and you finally got to the end. You had always hated rollercoasters.
The car stops and Jessie is quick to get out, beating the rest of you in even taking your seat belts off. You let out a huff before climbing out as well, walking up to his car.
You stop him from closing his door, your hand going to the top of it, your arm resting on the top of the car to practically lean over him.
“You’re really just going to leave without a word?”
“What do you even want me to say?” He doesn’t bring his eyes up to you as he speaks, one of his hands on his keys, ready to start his car.
“I don’t fucking know. Maybe, ‘sorry for dropping a fat bomb like that on the train tonight, Y/N’.”
“I didn’t even want to say it, but I thought we were on the same page, it didn’t feel like a bomb until I saw your reaction.”
You sigh, closing your eyes for a moment from the headache that was starting to irritate your eyes. “I’m sorry I wasn’t clear that night about what I meant. I love you Jess, I really do. As a friend, my best friend. Please just try to figure out what you want and don’t ignore me. That’s not what we do.”
“Okay.” He reaches for his door, looking up at you for the first time. His eyes were a bit puffy and it made you frown, the idea of him being so upset getting to you. You decide it’s better to let him leave for now as you step back from his car. You move to the porch to watch him drive away before turning back to the door and walking inside.
Grayson is waiting there for you, a look of concern on his face.
“I’m fine,” you reassure him. He isn’t convinced, but he doesn’t want to push you. He holds a hand out to you and you take it, following him up the stairs and to the bathroom.
He gets you both inside and shuts the door, and while he locks it you speak up. “Oh, Gray, I’m flattered but I’m really just so-“
“I’m not trying to do anything right now,” he chuckles, his body turning to face you again. “Just wanna run you a bath. Didn’t think you’d want Ethan walking in on it.”
You laugh, nodding your head as you watch him begin to move around the bathroom. “You can’t blame me, though. Last two times I was in a bathroom with you I didn’t have any pants on at some point.”
He laughs with you as he fills the tub and then going to look around under the sink for something. “You got me there. And you’re technically going to have to have no pants on this time, either. Unless you bathe in your clothes, then I’ll judge you and question everything I know.” He pulls out what look like lavender bubble bath and pours it in the tub.
“Good to know you’d embrace my weird side,” you joke, taking your shoes and jacket off finally. The room was beginning to heat up as the water filled the tub and you were startingto sweat a bit.
You weren’t sure if you were supposed to keep undressing in front of him or not. Obviously he’d seen it all before, but that was when you guys had just fucked. You decide to stand against the counter with your arms crossed as you continue to watch him.
“So are you actually going to get in here with your clothes on?” He asks as he turns to you, standing up with a smile on his face.
“No, I just...I don’t know.” You shrug. You weren’t in the mood to have another serious talk tonight, not one that might not end in your favor. You simply weren’t up for it. Your headache had gotten worse since Jessie had left despite the way Grayson was taking care of you and you honestly just wanted to go to bed.
Grayson stops the water once it’s high enough and begins to walk to the door. “I’m gonna go get you pajamas and a towel, please get in without your clothes.”
“Jeez, really trying to get me naked tonight. Keep it in your pants,” your tone is teasing as you can’t contain your smile, watching him chuckle as he opens the door.
“Shut up and get clean, you smell.”
You gasp in fake hurt, and before you can respond, he’s out and the door is closed behind him.
You’re glad you can still joke around with him right now, after such a tense day and all. You hadn’t even asked how he was feeling about all of this.
You do as he says and strip off your clothes to climb in the tub. The water is warm on your muscles and feels so good you literally have to stand in the water for a second before moving to sit. You let it release every muscle it touches, your shoulders slumping against the back of the tub as you sink all the way in to your chin.
You barely even hear Grayson walk back in, your eyes closed as you let yourself just breathe for what feels like the first time today.
He closes the toilet seat, placing the clothes there before coming closer to the tub and placing the towel on the rack closest to your head. He kneels beside you, bring his hand gently to your cheek and allowing his knuckles to run over the soft skin there.
“Do you want some tea?”
You can’t help the smile that spreads on your face at his words, his presence so gentle you almost feel like you could forget how big he actually was as a person.
“I can’t wait to see how whipped you are for our baby,” you giggle, unable to hold back your teasing again.
“I’m honestly scared of it,” you can hear the lightness of his voice and decide you want to see his face again. You slowly let your head fall to the side and open your eyes just enough to watch him  as he smiles at you.
“Are you just staying in here to see my tits?” You continue to poke fun, the humor between you two slowly reviving you after your emotional day.
“Can’t even see them with the bubbles, unfortunately.”
Your laughter echoes through the bathroom at his comment, your cheeks heating up even more.
“Alright.” He stands moving away from you and standing up, turning to leave. “I’ll let you enjoy.”
“I’ll be expecting my tea when I’m done,” you mumble, your eyes falling closed again.
You can hear him stop walking, the door not opening. “We actually don’t have any tea, I was banking on you not wanting any.”
You open one eye to watch him, your hand coming to rub the skin of your chest right under the water, causing some of the bubbles to move around. “I hate tea.”
You can see relief wash over him as he nods, his hand turning the knob once more.
“Can see your tits now.” Is the last thing he says before he leaves, not giving you an opportunity to cover yourself up.
Your bath is refreshing, and makes you feel a lot better. Your headache is nearly gone by the time you get out. You’re even able to find some lotion to use before you get dressed. He had given you one of his shirts and a pair of his boxers and you’re grateful for it. You love the smell, and the they’re soft from being worn so much.
You find your way back to the laundry room, opening the door and walking in. He was already under the covers, shirtless. You could get used to this, you think.
“You’re not sleeping on the couch?”
He looks up at you from his phone, his brow raised as he tries to figure out how serious you are. You go to your bag to put your stuff away as you wait for a response.
“I mean, I was…I thought-“ he stutters over his words, not sure what to say.
“I’m joking, I give you full permission to sleep in your own bed.” You smile at him as you walk over to the bed and crawling up to the top next to him.
He lets you get settled before he decides to speak up.
