Spoilers for Handplates! Make sure you’re all caught up before continuing!

I ended up scene-picking around the timeline at pretty-much-random, whatever I thought fit the lyrics the best in the moment of blinding inspiration (lol), but now that I’ve got the basics down to paper, I think I’d more carefully choose in mostly-chronological order. That also means some would have to be cut, so I want to show them off here! :D I also drew them all from memory so if there’s inconsistencies, that’s why lol

For example this is one of the very early lyrics, but the events take place well down the timeline! I’m sure I can find a good stand in - mostly I just wanted to draw Papyrus from this scene, ugh I love him ♥ And the lyrics do fit!

Looking back to Sans for reassurance haha. I changed a few of the lyrics to be more Papyrus-specific -

I did admittedly go a little over-the-top with these, he was not crying this much but I just jsalfdjfds this scene is so- much. So much! The lyrics goaded me, blame them haha - and also the attention to his neck! Even if it’s not in reference to choking on tears specifically, still drawn to the same place! I love Sans going to comfort him as well as rally him ahhhhh

A bit of irony - he’s being heard! So much! Just not listened to. I am so enamoured with his pose callbacks throughout the entire comic ugh, so beautifully done

Handing off the song for a moment to someone who actually can rewind it - I don’t think I’ve ever drawn a Genocide Run human now that I think of it :0 It was so satisfying to draw Gaster kneeling on the ground like that haha, contact points were - on point ✨ for this doodle session hehehe

Originally I had his glow coloured in purple but this was one that I actually went back to look at (because I love this scene so much hhgggg <3 <3 <3) and had to change to his natural colour - he deserves it!! He’s earned it!!

I’ve honestly fallen more in love with this song through him and vice versa haha ♪ It’d be quite a bit before/if I could make a full version, even just with what I’ve got here, but it was so fun to draw at all ♥

i just consumed so much sparklecare content and made an au of my oc pink . say hi to razzle (b) dazzle(d)! he is now everyone elses problem.

he's very similar to uni in some ways, and that isn't intentional i've had pink for a WHILE. they would b good friends tho. i gave him mega-sads instead of ultra mega-sads ( normalest sentence ) just to differentiate. Bc i do not want ppl to call him a clone of uni they are very much diff people just with the same sort of outward flavor.

speaking of which he probably has more afflictions i just didnt know how to sparklecare-ify having ADHD and probable BPD. nor did i rlly want to make terms for it. likely has a physical affliction as well before coming to the hospital i just didn't know what to give him

he has two prosthetics! one prosthetic arm, one leg. yes, this obviously means those two limbs were removed from him somehow. most people assume and theorize the staff at sparklecare did this during a surgery, but... pink gets very dodgy about this topic and never answers it in a clear way.

due to him being very sociable and easy to get along with he's friends with most patients . sort of like a Hospital Celebrity. he's known and he's cool and he's chill so ppl like him.

also i'm not sure if it matters but the bro and scatterbrained art is pulled from the official website, which is prob obvious

his favorite holidays are palentines day and kissmas and its obvious. loves anything associated with love and that whole aesthetic.

either has the default rainbow armband or the ITP band ( he's usually pretty compliant .. mostly out of fear. he does and will join or help escape attempts sometimes tho )

sleeps a lot. possibly narcolepsy possibly just not that ( like. napping a lot or depression naps or naps bc hes dissociating and or understimulated. )

more traits that fit him that i couldn't fit in da sheet:

creative

he's often found doodling idly or singing and making music in his spare time. he's expressed a desire to become an idol or an actor in his future. ( referencing how canon pink/razz is an idol robot lol )

sleazy/flirtatious

honestly this one is a give or take but it's a trait he eventually has. he definitely flirts with people often and casually. whether or not he actually sleeps around is a give or take though because i can see it either way, but, probably. he has an Allure to him. and he's. hypersexual so i mean yea.

egotistical/self-absorbed

this one isn't super bad, but he hypes himself up a lot and compliments himself casually. it's mostly to make him feel better about himself... but he does sometimes put other people down in order to put him up. it's always jokingly, at least... mostly, but it can become a problem later down the line. it doesn't feel good to be called lesser to someone!

tech-savvy

he's probably edited videos and audio a lot. and is or wanted to be a streamer/youtuber.

outgoing/extroverted

outgoing and affectionate are sort of hand in hand for pink. although, he has a very high social battery.... somehow, and is always around people or talking to him. he's also pretty impulsive.

affectionate

sometimes overly so. he'll even be affectionate or call people nicknames who he really should be at odds with - this includes staff. he's incredibly chill with most of the staff, or at least seems to be... giving them all nicknames and talking with them as if they were casual friends ( they aren't ). or it's to annoy them. it's not really clear with razz, ever.

presumably, this is a bad way of coping with how shitty people treat him by acting as if they're his friends - or something.

sensitive ( if you told razzy you hated him or smth he'd take it super personally but he'd come off as not offended but he'd think about it way too much. surprisingly he doesn't do this with like threats. he's numb to threats almost entirely )

conflict avoidant ( mostly explained in chill but they prob should be separate things there just wasnt enough space lol )

soda/sweets junkie

juvenile

he casually swears a lot and says a lot of sex jokes or things like that. Very casually, once again.

dissociative

his response to anything traumatic is usually just being really zoned out and dissociative after - due to this people think he doesn't really have a proper response to trauma. he does! people just don't think the zoning out counts as one! he has others, but he tries to hide any other trauma response for when he's alone.

fear of hospitals/medical stuff/etc

surprisingly, this didn't happen after being admitted to sparklecare, but it very much didn't help. goes hand in hand with claustrophobia and a lot of other fears he won't admit to. he's gotten numb over time. it still messes with him badly, but that mostly shows in the form of him dissociating... or in rare cases, having a panic attack. he only really shows emotion when he's in very very bad mental health or alone. at the very least he has people to talk to - if he didn't, he'd likely have completely broken by now.

thats a lot of things and i could probably find more to describe him but yea. He should prob also be more saturated n simplified but ehhhhhh. My oc my funny my silly he gets to slightly bend rules cuz he isnt in the comic its fiiine.

( plus its kinda symbolic of how many people in universe would see pink as surprisingly mentally well-adjusted and fine considering the situation he's in, which reflects in him not being 100% saturated. but he is. it just doesn't show outwardly )

How bad would an evening go if an “i somehow burned water once” s/o tried to cook something alongside the boys?

Shuichi Saihara

You’ve been noticing bags under Shuichi’s eyes lately, and that he hasn’t been sleeping.

Last night, you peeked in his room and saw him at his desk, pen in hand, mumbling to himself and writing notes in his notebook. It must be a hard case for him to crack, if he doesn’t eat or get any sleep. You don’t bother the detective at all when he’s focusing like this.

But! You wanna make sure that he’s eating right, at least. Even if you got an F in cooking class for accidentally giving everyone food poisoning, if it’s for Shuichi, you’re gonna try your best!

After rummaging through cabinets looking for something with directions on it, you find a curry packet and decide to work with that! You two usually go out and eat or get fast food for dinner, but sometimes Shuichi cooks! You get out potatoes, carrots, and… is that all..?

The easiest thing is the rice! You put it in the pan with water and pop that baby in the rice cooker! It’s all good, and you got instructions for this curry right here!

Okay! So, you need 2 ½ cups of water, but you thought that was too much so you only put in 1 cup, and you’re cooking that water- wait, it’s boiling i think- that right now...oh fuck i forgot the veggies

You start chopping the vegetables vigorously while the water goes to a boil and Shuichi enters the kitchen, looking a little shook. He asks what you’re doing, and you tell him that you’re cooking dinner! It’s important that he eats too uwu

His face goes kinda pale, and he awkwardly laughs. “Hopefully this won’t end like last time…” He looked worried. You reassure him that you kinda know what you’re doing! He stays in the kitchen and helps cut and put the vegetables in the pan.

Okay, it’s time to… i think the packet is supposed to go in now? wait a minute… wasn’t the meat supposed to go in earlier>>????? Okay,, you just plop in both at once and bOOm!! Wait for that shit to cook and you got yourself a good curry dish!

You take this time to ask Shuichi what he was working on, and he goes in really deep and goes to show you who he thinks the suspect is! You both go to his room and he shows you his notes and-- OH FUCK IS THAT THE FIRE ALARM

he is screaming. you are screaming

the fucking meat is roasted and the whole pan is smoking

You take that shit and throw it in the sink and you’re both still screaming but things turn out ok in the end. even though you only have rice for dinner...

Rantaro Amami

Rantaro texted you this morning, and after some talking, he asked if you wanted to hang out and go on a date today (which usually means watching movies and cuddling on the couch). You said yeah, he can come over!

It's about an hour later, and he's sitting on the couch looking through movies, and you're looking for more movies on the shelves. "We really have watched every movie, hah..." He chuckles from the couch. You turn to him and ask if he wants to do something else?

He thinks for a minute and looks at you with a smirk on his face... "Do you wanna try cooking together?" You can feel the sweat on your cheek, and you chuckle. "Aha, that's funny... I don't really know how to cook, but sure, okay...!" You get up and grab your phone to search for a recipe.

You two go into the kitchen, and he jokes about making an avocado cake, since he himself gets called "avocado" a lot. It turns out that it's an actual recipe, and you refuse to cook anything else. There's a fuck ton of ingredients, but luckily, you have... 4 of the ingredients, out of 11.

You write down the ingredients you need on a sticky note and get in the car with him. It was raining really hard outside, so you had to rush so you wouldn't get soaked...

Going to the grocery store wasn't too interesting, but you two were completely soaked when you got home... You laughed for about 5 minutes straight when he placed a bag on the counter and said "At least the avocados aren't harmed... They got a bath!"

After getting towels and drying up, and """accidentally""" seeing Rantaro's abs when he was drying his hair, you set up the ingredients and start cooking!

Everything was better than you thought, with Rantaro helping. Both of you successfully made the batter and it looked good! Since he did most of the mixing, you decided to put the batter in the pan and plop it in the oven!

You've never worked a timer before, though... You set it for 30 minutes, and you think that it's working?? You high-five Rantaro and chill on the couch together for the next half-hour. The alarm you heard when you thought 30 minutes passed, was not the timer, though...

You both jolted up in a panic, and you could see that the oven was smoking. You quickly grabbed the fire extinguisher as Rantaro opened the windows, and when everything was solved... the charred brick in the oven probably wasn't edible anymore, and you found out that the timer was broken.

Rantaro chuckled a little and pulled out 2 pre-baked, packaged cupcakes from a grocery bag. He gave one to you and said that he had fun, even if the avocado cake got burnt. He got to spend time with you, and that's all that matters ♡

Korekiyo Shinguji

You woke up at 6 am this morning beside Korekiyo, and you immediately get up to get ready. It's his birthday, and you're really excited for what you have planned for this special day!

You had plans for today that involve cooking, and since you can't bake a cake, you decided that it was a better idea to cook long life noodles!!

You refuse to just buy a cake from the store, and you wanted his birthday to be interesting, so you decided to make something tastier than cake! You rush to the store and buy your ingredients, after finding a recipe for it online.

It was kind of difficult to find Asian-style wheat noodles, but the store did have them! They ended up having all of your ingredients, so you were really happy about that!

Korekiyo was awake by the time you got home, and you started cooking immediately !! You put on his cooking apron and he asks what you're doing...

"Well, since it is your birthday, I thought I could make it something you wouldn't forget!" You chuckled.

"Please, do try to not burn down the house..." He sighs and stays in the room while you try your best. You assure him that it'll be okay! Even if you don't really know how to cook!

After reading the recipe instructions on your phone, you read the instructions on your noodle package, and you were successful in cooking them after you had to ask Korekiyo for help lmao !!

You mix other ingredients together in a bowl, like the instructions told you, and then it says to let it sit for 10 minutes cooking in the pan. You kept an eye on the time, and showed Korekiyo a bunch of Youtube videos you thought were cool, while you wait !!

You realize you were a few minutes over 10 minutes, and you screamed when you entered the kitchen, and fell on your bum.

Korekiyo quickly went in, grabbed the non-water fire extinguisher, and the fire on the stove went out in a couple of seconds... holy shit what just ?? happened ??

You were sad that his birthday turned to a disaster, and his "cake" was completely destroyed, but he knelt down and stared at you...

"That definitely was something I shall not forget, but... Saving you is the best present I could ever ask for."

You could see the edges of his face mask turn up, and you smile as well. Today wasn't as tragic as you thought!

Kaito Momota

You were on your phone, chilling on the couch when you hear Kaito gasp really loudly from the other room.

He yells from the kitchen, “S/O WE GOTTA MAKE A DIY GALAXY PIZZA” and you’ve never been more disappointed in your life

You walk in the kitchen and he’s already ready to go, with an apron on and everything. You don’t remember why you got an apron, because neither of you can actually cook.

Last time he tried to cook actual food, the fire alarm went off, and the pan was smoking like crazy. And after that one incident where you tried cooking and the food lit on fire in the sink, you both decided that fast food was the better option for dinner.

and here we are

You both decided that you should try do most of the work, while Kaito gets the ingredients off of a youtube video he was watching.

Tomato sauce, cheese, and… uhm, we need dough. He mumbles a little and then tells you that he’s gonna go get the stuff at the store! He rushes out of the house and the kitchen goes quiet...

While he’s gone, you look at the ingredients he chose. You’re pretty sure this tomato sauce is expired by like, 2 years, but you know that if you tell him that, he’ll say “It still looks like tomato sauce, it’s fine!”

You know that the cheese isn’t expired yet because the only thing you two can cook without it being a fire hazard is nachos. Next to the cheese is food coloring, probably gonna be used for the galaxy color.

He comes home with that dough (and some glitter- for stars he says. you know it’s not edible) and you get started on the pizza! You prepare galaxy-ify the ingredients and he decorates! You pop it in the oven and he’s so excited !

After like, 10 minutes you take it out because it smelled so bad. You had to open all the windows of the house and take the corpse out of the oven.

the fucking food dye was smoking and it was bubbling black like something poisonous

Well, there goes the galaxy pizza, here’s a…. bubbling, probably poisonous burnt disc…

yeah, fast food seems like the better option...

Kokichi Ouma

It was just a calm evening when you suddenly screamed and started panicking.

You forgot that you had to go to a party tomorrow, and were asked to bring food. It’s 8 pm and you still have no clue on what thing you can cook that will turn out decent.

You wanted to convince the people there that you can cook, since they told you that you can’t… yeah, you’re screwed qwq

Ouma finds out about your predicament and helps you out! He finds a can of green beans you decide to work with that.

You googled a recipe to make them taste good and you’re going off of that. It just says to heat the beans and drain them, so I guess that means just plop them in a pan?? Uhm.. Okay, we got this.

It took you a couple of minutes, but you find a pan that you can cook in. Just a little dusting off, and you’re good!

You set up a pan and pour the whole can in, turning the heat on. You’re guessing that it’s supposed to cook for like, 10 minutes or so? You’re not sure??

You hear footsteps coming down the stairs while you set the timer for 10 minutes

Suddenly, Ouma runs in the kitchen, screaming??? You jump and the pan falls from the stove, and it falls on Ouma’s foot. He drops his phone and screams louder. poor bby qwq

You find out that he got a really rare item in the game he was playing, but now his foot is red from getting burned.

When he opens his eyes, they widen and he shouts “Fire!!”

?????? you look to see the carpet behind you, on fire.

You panic and quickly fill a bowl with water, and pour that shit on the burning carpet. It goes out, leaving behind a burnt oven mitt. Oven mitts can burn??

You realize soon after that you could’ve used the fire extinguisher instead of making the floor slippy, but you realize too late when you run to help Ouma. You slip and fall, bruising your arm pretty badly.

In the end, you both got your injuries treated and just decided to buy something already cooked at the store to bring. Not only do you have to explain why you brought a store-bought cake, you have to explain the bruise on your arm too, and why Ouma is limping. yeah, you’re screwed qwq

Kiibo

It was a lazy, rainy day and you two were cuddling on the couch, with nothing to do. You both were coming up with ideas other than just cuddling, rejecting them all. Everything was silent, other than the sound of rain hitting the windows, until Kiibo gasped a little and smiled wide.

“S/O, I want you to teach me how to cook!” sweet robot doesn’t know what’s coming,,

His eyes were sparkling like a kid in a candy store and you couldn’t say no..

You both go into the kitchen and you awkwardly look for something that you can cook. You offer teaching him how to cook a microwave meal and he insists on cooking something from scratch… oh god,,

After searching in the cabinets for a couple of minutes, you find a little box of macaroni. You have no idea how to cook this, but it’s better than trying to cook stir fry, or something.

You search up a recipe, and yikes… You might not have all the different types of cheeses in the recipe, but you have slices of cheese for making sandwiches and such, so that’ll do.

You two had to stop by the store to get more butter and… paprika ? That’s what it says in the recipe, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When you get home, you try your best to cook while Kiibo measures the ingredients! You had no idea how he was able to measure ¼ cups of butter, but you just went with it.

You were able to cook the macaroni, but making the rest was a trainwreck. Milk got all over the counter when you accidentally stirred too fast, and you improvised and used a glass bowl instead of a “casserole dish”. You still kept a smile! For Kiibo! He looked a little worried but that’s ok.

You made the mistake of thinking that it wasn’t cooked enough and you burnt it to a crisp… You were also cooking something else (melting butter, I think?) in the frying pan on top of the stove, and Kiibo was looking after it. You picked up the burnt mac and cheese from the oven and-OW!

You burned your hand and knocked the pan on the stove over, melted butter all over the floor along with burnt mac and cheese... Kiibo was screaming the whole time, mostly because you screamed when you burned your hand.

He was more worried about your health than the mess on the floor, and you luckily got the burn properly treated. You two clean up the kitchen and end up cuddling on the couch again.

If you two ever do that again, make sure to put on oven mitts before touching anything burnt...

Ryoma Hoshi (shoutout to levia from the discord server for helping me with this!! qwq)

It’s the day before a really important tennis match! It's probably the most important one of the season. Ryoma isn't too worried about most matches, but for this one, you can hear him saying that he's not as good as he used to be, and that he'll lose this one. You're kind of worried for him, so you try to find a way to bring up his confidence...

You wanna make sure that he has enough energy for tomorrow, so you decide to make dinner for him instead of just getting Mcdonalds or something.

Your eyes travel to the abandoned spaghetti package on the counter, one that you decided to cook one day, but gave up when you picked up the package...

Spaghetti is a good source of energy....right? Well, let's do it!

You pick up the package with determination, and you're ready to cook for Ryoma!

He notices your determined smile and your frilly apron, and walks over to observe... he says that he hasn't watched you cook before, and that he's just curious. You start cooking with him beside you!

Okay, so... you grab a big pot and put it on the stove and fill it with water, just like the directions said... you opened the spaghetti package and some of it fell onto the floor and snapped, but you got most of the noodles into the water. The noodles didn't really fit in the pot, but you think it's okay??

aaa just to be sure, you break up the noodles so that they'd fit in the pot... You turn up the heat and wait for the water to boil.

In the meantime, you decide to doodle and talk to Ryoma until you see the water bubbling... wait! The directions tell you to salt the water, and the salt is on the counter above the stove. Just reeaaach,,,, wait. "S/O--" Ryoma tries to warn you until you look down...

The frills on your apron went a little too close to the fire. You scream and there it goes off of your body, and into the sink. Not only that, the water somehow went over the edge of the pot and went all over the stove, and steam was everywhere around it...

After cleaning up and throwing away your apron, you sigh and make a sandwich in the morning, for him...

You tell him that you're sorry about last night, and that you just wanted to bring up his energy and maybe, his confidence, for this game. You wish him luck and hand him the sandwich.

He looks down at the sandwich and smiles. He gives a quick "Thank you.", puts the sandwich down for later, grabs his tennis racket, and walks onto the court with slight confidence...!

"S/o, can Gonta learn how to cook for you??" Gonta said with sparkles in his eyes, holding a recipe that Kirumi let him borrow. You were flattered that he wanted to learn from you, and said that you're not good at cooking, but he insisted, saying that a gentleman should cook for his s/o... and you couldn't say no to that pure, determined face...

You took a closer look at the recipe. Waffles... you thought it was rather simple to make, and the kitchen already had the ingredients for it! You told Gonta that you can try teaching him, and he was excited! You got the right ingredients and measuring tools (you think,,>??) and started teaching him how to measure the ingredients, and how to mix them all together. It was all good so far, actually, and you were determined that things will turn out okay in the end! Just for shits and giggles, you put a few drops of blue food dye in the batter, and he said that it looked pretty :>

You grabbed the waffle iron after searching for it in the cupboards, dusted it off...and plugged it in! You told Gonta that it needs time to heat up, and then the batter can go in ! Also, that if it smokes, that means it's bad :v

He watched intently as you opened the waffle iron with an oven mitt and poured the batter in. You thought the expression he was making was really cute, and you couldn't help but giggle a little. The batter overflowed over the iron, but that would just make it fluffier, right? Right... owo"

You pressed the hot waffle iron down, and more batter flowed out of it, and all over the counter... You laughed awkwardly, and said that that's not supposed to happen,,,

You didn't know when to lift the iron back up, but it started smoking after a couple of minutes and you opened it in a panic, hoping that it didn't burn too much!! Gonta gasped and picked you up, saying that he'll protect you from the bad !! Pure boi...

He lets you down after you tell him that it's okay, and yeah, your blue waffles weren't really blue, but completely charred... they were still in the shape of waffles, tho! Aha... You told him that you're really sorry you couldn't really teach him, and that you're not good at cooking.

"It's okay, s/o! Gonta will ask Kirumi-san to teach Gonta and s/o to cook!!" He smiled wide and you gave him a hug. His hugs are always the best, aha... and now, you'll learn how to cook, together! You're excited for it!

TaeKai - A scientific Research paper

(this is literally the 20th time i’ve written this out my computer keeps crashing - also to any haters out there - this whole “science” thing started as a joke, but I feel now, presented with all the information, that writing this in the format originally posed does more justice to the situation than just dumping 20 youtube links on a post. Also after a while this becomes NO JAM for anyone who isn’t invested in Taekai as a friendship/couple so if you aint, don’t be about it)

My first note - I have been a Kpop fan since 2012, but only got back into the swing of things in 2016 - when i first got into Kpop, i was pretty much exclusively into YG groups, bar 2 (GG and F*x* (stars used in order to keep out of the tag b/c yesh). So my informed knowledge of this matter when I first posed a scientific inquiry was limited. However, thanks to the community, I have gained a lot of knowledge. However, I have also realised that this will very quickly become a topic which many will have issue with, so in order to protect my community, i’ll leave all my sources anonymous -if you want to tell everyone which reciepts you found, or would like to add to this knowledge inquest, please do so, and I encourage this greatly. However - please keep all contrinutions factual and neutral, and please also maintain scientific standard, by sourcing if the source is not apparent or common knowledge. We deal in truth here, this is not a shipping expedition, nor a fanfic-boosting activity. This is not for aesthetic or fangirl reasons - this is true inquiry. There are some sources i couldn’t find so sorry in advance if i couldn’t include yours.

So in order to present my findings accurately, I must get out of the way some potentially data-obfuscating information that could colour proceedings;

1. After much discussion with the Taekai and Kpop community at large, we have concluded that a large majority of the evidence in terms of physical closeness can be attributed to a culture of Skinship, and this culture being heightened within idol activities. The idol degree of kinship would/could not extend to closeness outside of idol activities, but the overarching culture of skinship would. Further to this point, it’s also evident that skinship shown by idols to one another is actually not as fully accepted as international fans tend to think it is, as I have been told that within the culture, there is a far more traditionalist mindset than foreigners assume. For the former point - this is not likely to affect any public evidence of closeness i’ve found before 2014-ish (this year is important), but is likely to colour any activities during and post-ace era, as they would now be publically *outed* as bros (wierd choice of words but know what i mean). For the latter, this should highlight, at least in regard to “candid” proofs, that the level of skinship presented may not be as “normal” as foreign fans are likely to believe. 2. A very diligent and long-term Kpop fan also notified me that it’s likely during and after the Ace era, that there was a move to “bro”-ify Taekai, whether genuine or in order to obfuscate rumours. Therefore, at this time, evidence is now coloured by a factor of how management/etc would like fans/others to see them, in regards to responding to any “misunderstandings”. However, after much discussion with my colleagues, it has become evident that even if this were a move to cover some form of truth (which is the point that i will argue in this paper), then this was a genius move, as any skinship would now fall under this banner, even if it was evidence of a relationship. This, however, makes analysis on our end very difficult.

I should also mention there are very few outcomes that could become of this study, and it’s likely to be a mixture, but none of them can be 100% proven, as, surprise! I’m neither Taemin, nor Kai, and I don’t know for sure.

-Either we find this is all an act and they aren’t friends (which would be our control outcome) -or we find they’re just super close friends -or they’re full on boyfriending it up

I’m trying to clear my mind of any bias before we start, but I have a good idea going in of where we’re gonna end up.

SO. Here we go.

The earliest receipt I have that’s reliable as a source, is from the 2013 MMA’s, where SHINee won the daesang. (Note: SHINee, Taemin’s group, won, and yet Kai, member of EXO, is the one crying)

I mean….i’ll let the footage speak for itself, but it is good to note that this was before any true push towards bro-ifying them as far as i’m aware, and they’re signature patting each other on the butt is also present here. In my scientific opinion, this can be construed two ways - Kai tends to cry, so he would cry on behalf of his *friend*, whereas Taemin tends not to cry, so easily fixed that one. With the utmost neutrality, this would be the mark of a very close friendship, where Kai is acknowledging the hard work his friend put in to doing well. The hug is pretty close by anyone’s standards, but this can still be attributed to a very close brotherly friendship. (The butt pats tho? I need to get used to that)

Early 2014 bought us this Gem - it’s interesting to know the story, but also more important to note when public perception of them was beginning to be written. (still, taemin’s being a little shit, calling him out and everything I love it);

This next reciept is interesting. It’s Ace era, and very specifically the pretty boy-ification. But here’s the sitch - around 1:04 Taemin’s looking pretty self-conscious, being that he’s pretty much shirtless, but check out 1:19;

Cheesy, yes, but don’t pay attention to what Kai’s saying, but what he’s doing - he feels very comfortable touching Taemin while he feels self-conscious, and is rather exposed. One could read any kind of conclusion from that but i’m just saying - that’s a very close bond y’got there.

And lets address the elephant in the room everyone - the W Korea Shoot. Now, we all know what ended up happening *cough cough*, but that aside - just take a look at these pictures;

This photoshoot was obviously heavily instructed, but those who know about photoshoots know you can’t really control the subjects and how the interact with each other. a lot of the other pictures felt sterile, the ones with the third member of the shoot *cough cough* feeling the most sterile - but the super charged, highly ~aesthetic ~ ones seem to always include taekai, and specifically taekai in some way interacting.

Now - get ready, here’s where shit gets freaky, scientifically speaking;

Taemin just keeps fiddling with Kai’s top, in the end leaving it more open than it was before…..bros? also, 1:42 - WHO. DOES. THIS. - he’s not even awkward, he’s not even sorry, he just teases the hell out of the EXO-L’s because he can. and who’s Bro lets them rub their chest and just smiles? Also peep the hand holding/stroking, i’ll get to that in a second.

.....and finally……

it’s very important to note that these photos came out around the time the bro-ification started, but no-one just strolls down next to han river, embracing, being total bros, all alone. right? of course one could reason they’re just “very good friends” but this is where that argument breaks down - firstly Han river is a known romantic spot, and it’s pretty public, so the idea that they could roam anywhere else also comes into play. Also, there was no reason for them to be so close to each other - they had no idea the cameras were there. I’d also like to direct my peers to this;

Taemin stumbles over saying that they’re best friends, and immediately gets awkward when explaining their relationship. However, he seems a bit peeved that people think they may be in a relationship, quick to say he should be more careful even though everyone is ok with it, and almost tired at the radio host saying he’s “too pretty”. It’s a quip i think he’s heard one too many times, and him and kai walking alone really isn’t helping that perception of him, so his reaction here is more in reaction to the perception of his masculinity than maybe their perhaps being in a relationship. Taemin’s description of their skinship though, puts to rest any questions of subjectivity or obfuscation when it comes to cultural barriers - even though the radio host makes it clear their relationship may be closer than comfort culturally, taekai don’t see it as anything out of the ordinary. That’s again, not confirmation of a relationship, but more a righting of a perception of them he’s probably tired of trying to explain. He knows it’s out of the ordinary, but when he explains it, it seems we get an idea of how Taemin percieves their relationship, which is helpful from an objective standpoint.

there are other reciepts I’ve received, but have not been able to verify, and many other videos im sure, that state the same points, but i wasn’t able to include as tumblr won’t let me? i mean that sounds fake but ok tumblr whatever.

My conclusion is slightly different from the one i thought i’d make - there are four options that seem evident after discussion; 1. They are dating, they’ve done been dating, they will continue to date (this seems less likely, as 8 years of a relationship, through all of the ups and downs, seems a stretch); 2. They were friends, they began dating, they got caught, they bro-ified, and now they can touch each other to their hearts content because everyone thinks they’re idol bros; 3. They’re EXTREMELY CLOSE bros, and maybe kind of more, but it’s noncommittal maybe? Or just informal; 4. They’re just very affectionate bros.

Everything up until the hand holding had me thinking it was either 4 or 1. But then, they hold hands in public, but they try and hide it? and then they fix each other’s clothes when they assume they’re hidden from view? they take strolls late at night through romantic locations?

The kicker is when Taemin rubbed Kai’s chest - that’s him knowing we know he can do that, and we can’t, and you’d only think like that if you knew you could actually physically touch your *friend’s* bare chest (which he was super self-conscious of by the way) and not have him react adversly, which is an incredibly close relationship even for skinship. That’s literal skin-ship.

In my personal professional opinion, I think it’s option 3 - after much talk, research, collaboration and decision making with the community, it only makes sense - Option 3 covers that they feel OK touching each other, even in public, but maybe don’t have a full on relationship. This would also explain the final video, where Taemin explains why they’re so close physically. I think also it explains why they get a bit secretive about the hand holding - if there’s more there, it’s because they know that even though much of their skinship can be explained away by bromance, that maybe they’ve developed a special brand of closeness that looks a bit too out there for the average viewer.

In all honesty, we won’t know, but i’m not ruling out that they’re kind of boyfriends, in the menial sense. Objectively, form what they’ve told us and done, they essentially fulfilled the “partner” role in each others lives, basically spending all their free time together doing stuff they both have an interest in.

My conclusion: Definitely Bestbros™ with a side of *maybe we get it on sometimes*
