Ninjago fairy tale AU’s because I can’t sleep

Lloyd: little red riding hood

Zane: Snow White

Echo: Rapunzel

Jay: the little mermaid

Kai: beauty and the beast

Cole: Goldilocks and the three bears

Little green riding hood

This was going to be Kai but Lloyd fit better

Oh my gosh like the fandoms expectations for the green ninja

Lloyd was told by his Uncle Wu to go pick up some tea from Mystake

On his way back, he keeps running into Akita, who’s trying to warn him of danger, but Lloyd can’t understand her

The danger is Harumi is following him. Lloyd doesn’t see her

When Lloyd reaches the monastery, Harumi is there, pretending to tend the place

She says that she’ll take the tea to Wu, and Lloyd is give her the tea, when Akita comes and scares Harumi off

Akita sniffs out Wu and after she finds him, reveals herself as a human

Then they all live happily ever after (except Harumi) the end

Snow White

Zane is the son of the oh so famous Dr. Julien, the royal inventor, but the King (ice elemental from the elemental alliance) takes a liking to Zane, and adopts him when Dr. Julien dies

Now Zane is the prince woo

The King also takes a liking to the ice emperor, but that was a mistake, because he sneakily kills the king and takes the throne for himself

“Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the coldest of them all?”

It’s Zane

So IE tells Vex to go kill Zane, but Vex doesn’t actually know how to kill a nindroid so he just tells him to run into the forest

That’s where Zane meets the 7 dwarves

Hungry (Cole) Chatty (Jay) Confused (teen Wu) Flirty (Kai) Grumpy (Morro) Happy (Echo) and Sleepy (Lloyd)

Later he meets P.I.X.A.L. who immediately catches his heart

The IE finds out that Zane is still alive, and decides that since Vex didn’t help him, he was going to have to kill Zane himself

He disguises himself and goes into the forest

He gives Zane an apple that gives him a fatal virus, but Zane doesn’t realize it’s bad so he dies (wow shocker)

Then the IE falls off a cliff

The 7 dwarves hold a small funeral and invite P.I.X.A.L.

P.I.X.A.L. realizes that Zane isn’t dead dead, so she kisses him and he comes back to life

They go back to the kingdom and Zane is crowned king, and P.I.X.A.L is queen. The dwarves are advisors

Then they all live happily ever after the end

Echo

Dr. Julien didn’t want Zane to know he was building a little brother for him, because he was getting sick, and thought he was going to die soon, and he didn’t want Zane to be sad at his brother and his father not being around

So he struck up a deal with Samukai the Skeleton

Samukai would give him a private place to build Echo, and a potion to help him get better if Samukai got to keep Echo

Not having much of an option, Dr. Julien agreed, hoping that Echo and Zane would find each other on their own

Echo was built and Samukai kept him in a lighthouse

Dr. Julien tells Zane of his missing brother

Events of Snow White (seen above) ensue and now Zane is king yay

Morro is a wanted thief and while getting away, he runs into what he thinks is an abandoned lighthouse

Only to find a rusty nindroid

Echo explains he’s always wanted to see the real world but he never got to

Morro sneaks him out and they head to the kingdom to celebrate the king’s birthday

Echo realizes that he’s the king’s brother, and he a Morro go back to ask Samukai questions

Samukai does an exposition dump, and stabs Morro, before Morro simply blows him away

Morro dies but he’s a ghost so it’s okay

They return to the kingdom and Echo FINALLY meets Zane

Morro and Echo start dating

Then they all live happily ever after the end

The Little Mermaid

Jay was always fascinated with little toys he found from human shipwrecks

He would often go on and on about what he thought they were all used for

His father may have been King Cliff, but Jay was practically raised by Ed and Edna, who taught him about the human world

His mom is dead rip

He goes to the surface and finds Nya, who he immediately falls in love with

He stays hidden, but sings Nya a little song

The ship almost wrecks, but Jay saves Nya. She’s barely waking up to his song again before he swims off. She wants to know who that voice was

Jay finds a locket with Nya and her brother in it, and he wants to take it to Nya, so he tells his dad

His dad isn’t happy that Jay fell in love with a human

After another fight with his father, Jay goes off and gets lost, but is found by Nadakhan

Nadakhan says he can make Jay human, all he has to do is wish, and Jay gets 3 wishes total. After the third wish, Nadakhan gets something of Jay’s

Jay’s first wish is to be human, his second is that he won’t be able to speak because he wants to save his 3rd wish

Nadakhan grants Jay’s wishes and Jay goes to learn to become human. He gives the locket to Nya

Nya tells him about her brother’s romantic escapades (see below) but she also tells him that she has to get married soon or she might not be able to support her career in technological advancement

She has her sights (or rather ears) set on the lovely voice she heard that night, but Jay can’t tell her that that was him

They meet Nadakhan who has come to get Jay’s third wish, but Jay won’t use it

Nadakhan says that if Jay doesn’t use his third wish by sundown the next day, he was going to kill Nya

Nadakhan uses magic to sound like Jay, and Nya has to marry him (she’s under a spell)

The next day, Jay still hasn’t made his third wish by sundown and Nya starts dying

Jay wishes her to stay alive, and says even if Nadakhan takes his legs and he never gets to see Nya again, he’ll be fine, just as long as she lives

Nadakhan grants the wish, but the spell on Nya fades away and she falls in love with Jay

I don’t know what to do with Nadakhan, I think I’ll have him just take the boat and leave

Then they all live happily ever after the end

Flirty and the Beast

Kai is the biggest flirt in their village

Everyone knows he’s just a blacksmith who likes fighting, but men and women alike can’t get enough of his flirtatious exploits

Though he’s never actually known what real love is. He also wants to go out on an adventure, but the closest he’s ever gotten was books

One day, Nya wants to take her samurai x project to ninjago city, and Kai tells her to have fun

While Cryptor (literally couldn’t find a better villain please work with me) is trying to get Kai to date him, Kai receives a message from Nya that she’s in trouble

Kai runs off to try and save her and that’s when he finds out that Nya’s been taken prisoner by an anacondrai looking person

She introduces herself as Skylor, and she says she’ll let Nya go if Kai stays with her

Kai agrees and Nya goes back to their village to get help

Nya tells Cryptor about Kai, and he just laughs it off, because Nya’s a women, and all women are crazy, but he decides that if Nya is going crazy, he could hold it against Kai

But he can’t find Kai

Back at Skylor’s mansion castle, Kai gets curious and finds the staff making Skylor a snake

After she scares him, he runs into the woods and is attacked by wolves, but Skylor saves him

They star falling in love after that

Kai asks Skylor if he could visit Nya, and Skylor reluctantly lets him go for good, thinking he might like that most

Kai also tells them of Skylor, finally realizing he loves her, and Cryptor decides to get rid of her, because “if I can’t have Kai, no one can”

They fight

After stopping Cryptor (Nya was able to shut him off) Kai shucking finally kisses Skylor and she turns into a Normal human

Wanting to help Kai go on and adventure, Skylor takes him, and Nya on a trip to visit a beach (queue previous story)

then they live happily ever after the end

Noir locks

Cole never wanted to sing and dance, but he loved watching the lumberjacks

One day he followed them out to a part of the woods he was unfamiliar with

He explores a bit more and finds a house. There seems to be fresh food, he didn’t eat breakfast and was starving, so he sneaks in

There’s cake

After eating the vanilla cake instead of the chocolate or strawberry, Cole decides to take a nap. He woke up super early to catch the lumberjacks, and walking for so long made him exhausted

He finds the most luxurious bed he’s ever slept in

He’s woken up to a high pitched scream

He sees an ivory and gold colored bear and starts screaming too

Two more bears come up the stairs

After they all calm down, the bears introduced themselves as Vania, Seliel, and Kataru

Kataru says his sister is usually here as well but she was out doing something else

Cole asks what the heck is going on and why there were talking bears sleeping in beds and eating cake

Vania explains that her father cursed her and Seliel, and Kataru was just a bear formling

Cole decides to see if he can do anything about it, so Vania leads him to her fathers mine

Cole try’s to reason with Vangelis, but the king won’t have it

Vania explains that Cole needs to shave Vangelis’s beard because that’s where he stores his magic

Cole does, but Vania and Seliel are still bears

Vangelis later explains that his magic is actually from a magic skull and he just tells people that it’s in his beard because he wants to throw them off

Cole tries to steal the skull, and Vangelis catches him and turns Cole into a bear

After fighting Vangelis and ultimately getting the skull, Cole runs off

He takes the skull back to Kataru who destroys it

Vania, Cole and Seliel turn back

Not having any real magic anymore, and just being a horrible person, Vangelis is knocked off the throne and Vania takes over

Then they all live happily ever after the end

Thoughts journal Ninjago season 13!! 🖤🖤 (4/4)

Here we are, at the end of just another season of Ninjago! And I've gotta say, until now it has been very good, I think I'm liking this season better than Prime Empire and Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu. I liked them too, but this one feels more complete and deep, also LILLY GOT A BACKSTORY HECK YEAH 😍😍

Prime Empire had one really great ending, so I'm very curious how this season will conclude! Spinjitzu burst? Some last minute plot twist? Cole and Vania confirmed...? 🙄

Here we go!!

THE DARKEST HOUR

So I'm guessing the guys aren't doing too good at the moment 😅

I know this is kind of a tense situation, but honestly Kai looking so confused at having to lead cracks me up 😂 "Do I have to say it? Is that what being in charge means?"

Lloyd: YOU

Jay: SHALL

Kai: NOT

Zane: BE GRANTED THE PERMISSION TO TRAVERSE BEYOND THIS POINT

I have no words, that was such an obvious reference in full Zane style so in character, I have tears. Beautiful 🤣🤣

Also they all look SO COOL 💚💙❤🤍

My ninja babies fighting together screaming NINJA-GOO!! Really this season feels like we're back in the old days, so cool! And they are so in sync, Kai lifting Lloyd up and Zane pushing others away and I LOVE THE FIGHTING ANIMATIONS 🤩

Poor Skull dude, he's trying to do his big bad guy monologue and he keeps getting interrupted 😂

It was cute that both tribes immediately refused to surrender, not sure if it was for pride or they actually care about their new ninja friends, but it was nice

Aahh, near death life experiences, the best way to elicit teamwork 👍 Nice scene, nice cute scene

Nnnnnyyyggg, Lloyd, that's the sacrifice look right there 😱 At least they just turned themselves in peacefully after reuniting the tribes... aaand of course he was lying, I hate that Skull dude 👿👿

THE ASCENT

Back to team Cole! Back to the Upply! 🖤 Quick guys, we're only three episodes left!! NEED TO GO BIG!!

Heeeeeyy, Wu back in business! I kinda missed him a bit taking control of the situation, it used to be him because he was the master. It really is a jump into the past this season! 🤩🤩

Sure let's go with the explosive cart, not like Cole and the other ninja haven't been piloting a falling apart rocket back to Earth before 🤷‍♀️

A Mech on rolleskates, why not? Does Cole even know how to go on those though? He was already out of the Tournament of Elements during Chen's Thunder Blade so I don't really know...

Lolz the monster was actually waiting staring at the wall, guess you don't get much fun in this mine 😅

I guess we're doing this 😅 Gonna be honest, this is the first very evident sweet look I see from these two. I like Vania, a lot, but another classic love interest? Uuuuhhh, Idk, Imma see the rest of the season and see what happens 🤷‍♀️

A baby dragon on a giant spider, one of my favorite things ever on one thing I fear... I'll let it pass just because Adam is a good boy 🕷🕷🕷

Such a special little snowflake 😘 Evil monologue, we've been going for 13 seasons now with various specials and a movie, we heard it already 🤷‍♀️

Also the reveal, and he's all "Your friend Cole is dead" and Lloyd "That's what they all say, buddy" 👌👌

Poor Cole just wants justice for his mom HELP EMOTIONAL AGAIN

I'm all for Cole's personal team, they should do missions together, like Jay's team in Skybound!... that technically never happened, BUT STILL COOL 🖤💙🖤💙

Oh with a title like this, it's a given that I will not survive. Oh boy, here goes, the FINALE!

Chaos, chaos, beautiful dragon of death and distraction, also gently reminder that Mino is also a very good boy 💕 Are the skeletons connected to the skull? Are they gonna stop reform when Cole defeats the Skull Sorcerer?

The swords are not actually magical? Huh, first weapon in this show that turns out to be a fluke, apart maybe the Dragon Armor of the Firstborne... that one stayed intact at least 😅

THIS. FIGHTING. SCENES. ARE. SO. FREAKING. GOOD 😍 Also wow sensei, full kamikaze with a dragon? I guess the sacrifice gene really runs into that family 😅

Okay, since there weren't evident references to Nexo Knights this season, can I pretend Fungus shooting fireworks is one? Merlok used to do that almost at every season finale... IMMA PRETEND 🙃

She is so adorable, I really love her. Wished we've seen more of her bond with her father, it felt a little easy her giving up on him. Idk, Sky and Chen didn't have that much of a bond but she struggled a lot! But she is super cool and cute, I ADORE her 💕

This sounds like a pretty good experience for Lloyd who FINALLY spent a season without being scarred for life!!! He even met a princess who didn't plan his death!!! Montgomery things are getting better 💚

Well, that surprised me, I guess Cole and Vania like each other but not heavily? Just a very light mood, like they care a lot but no other step further. I'm very happy about this choice, you can see it as a couple if you want, but you can also say they are just good friends. Nice 👍

Oh no, Wu got his midlife crisis, SOMEBODY STOPS HIM 😱

Wherever the wind will take them okay, wherever the producers will decide to torture them 😗

Overall, great finale! 😁

FINAL THOUGHTS

I think I enjoyed Prime Empire's finale more than this one, but this season with all of its episodes was absolutely AMAZING 🖤

The Skull Sorcerer wasn't necessarily a bad villain, but the story kinda went into another direction in my opinion so his part wasn't fundamental. Which isn't a bad thing for me, it's actually new and exciting see the attention to the story instead of the villain, and I did enjoy how they made fun of how cliche he was being 😂

Vania was GREAT. Wished we had more time with her father to really establish what kind of bond they had, but overall I loved her, new best girl acquired 💛💛💛

FREAKING ROCK MOM!! FREAKING LILLY!! I'm so emotional just thinking about this family, omg, THIS is the content I want for Ninjago! Impactful, that makes sense, connected to the heart that makes you so much closer to a character! Finally the Rock family is getting more complex 🖤

I think this season really gave Cole justice, we got her mom's story, we've got him leading a team again, we've got him with a cool new power! 😍😍

For the other ninja it was okay, I really liked the shenanigans with the tribes and the cultures were really fun to explore. Was kinda like a side quest and for me didn't bring that much to the main story, but it was fun and it's fair, Cole had all the attention he deserved 👌

FIGHTING ANIMATION OMG HECK FREAKING YEAH 10/NINJA-GOOOO ❤💚💙🖤🤍🌊

Beautiful designs for the characters, in particular the Shintaro citizens, and also wonderful backgrounds and sceneries, that I thought were starting to lack but here seems much nicer to look at 🤩

What can I say? Ninjago still knows how to mess with my heart, and I'm so very happy about it. I think the so wanted Cole season was definitely worth it 🖤🖤🖤

Now, I heard voices about a possible Nya season... ABSOLUTELY YES, YES TO EVERYTHING, QUEEN GETTING HER OWN SEASON YES YES YES!!! 😍😍😍🌊🌊🌊 Besides that apparently Maya will come back, which is a dream coming true, if they give Nya the same attention they gave to Cole this season, I will be happy 😊

Ivory and Gold

With Ninjago finally falling into a state of calm again, the Ninja finally find a chance to take a well deserved break after the whole Prime Empire debacle. What better to have time off than to visit the Kingdom of Shintaro upon official invite of King Vangelis, for his daughters birthday celebration. Only, Cole can’t help but feel that he’d already been to the ivory city before. The name at least rung a deeply hidden bell in his mind, the only issue was that he couldn’t place the memory. 4518 words

It wasn't every day that being a ninja coincided with celebration and relaxation, but sometimes karmic justice did work in their favour.

Though it did always seem that whenever they donned their gis, it was for anything but a normal day. That the action of pulling on their masks, making sure all their weapons and armour were in place, checking the fit of the clothes and the tightness of their belts to prevent any mishaps during possible battles. It inherently meant danger. It meant that something had gone wrong with the world again, that there was another big bad on the horizon and it was their job as protectors to prevent the world from plunging into the hands of whatever evil and dark force had decided to try and play their hand and take over.

Yet this time, things had been a little different. Generally, the kingdoms within Ninjago kept to themselves, as much as everyone else did. They interacted, yes, traded goods and services, but that was as far as anything really went. It was a state of harmony, a working relationship.

Cole had heard about the Ivory City of Shintaro a while back, he didn't specifically remember who had mentioned it initially but the information was stored somewhere in his mind. He'd seen it too, or at least he'd felt he had. Stood on the deck of the Bounty, staring in astonishment as they descended amidst the towering structures that made up the city. Turrets that reached high into the sky, made to look even more vast due to the peak of the mountain that the kingdom already resided upon.

Their duties as ninja was to protect life, maintain a visage of hope. Be people to look up to, and to be relieved to see.

Sometimes, it also included showing face. It included being given opportunities and experiences that Cole would never have expected to have should he have led a normal and mundane life like anybody else. Such as being invited to a generally fairly closed off kingdom to celebrate the birthday of one of the heirs to the throne. Princess Vania, it wasn't a name Cole was very familiar with.

Honestly, he wasn't familiar with anything there. Even as they docked and promptly met with and escorted through the complex and winding hallways of the kingdom's palace by a guide with wings no less. Golden sheets that almost looked like silk flowing in an invisible wind, and it looked as though any form of flight with them seemed impossible. Yet still, the man floated gracefully above the ground.

Nothing about the kingdom was ringing any bells other than the distant inkling that this wasn't the first time he'd been there, or that he'd heard of it. Faces, names, they were all completely foreign, but the feeling the place provided…

It was so familiar, right on the tip of his tongue.

"Earth to Cole," came a voice, and Cole promptly snapped back to reality with Jay's face far too close to his own. "You're thinking pretty hard."

He took a short step back to place some distance between the two of them before answering. "Yeah, I guess." Cole took a brief second to actually take in where they had ended up in the castle. The floor they were walking on was polished to perfection that it almost felt like sacrilege to be walking across it. Patterned with gold lines that stretched as far as Cole could see, turning corners as the floor did, glinting and glimmering in the sun as it passed through the windowed walls. "Just, you know, taking everything in." And he was. He may have been distracted, but he was taking in the splendor of the kingdom.

"Awesome, isn't it?" Jay said in a wistful tone, his pupils practically blown wide. They both slowed down in their pace just slightly. They were still following along behind their winged guide and their friends, just a little bit further back. "It's not every day that we get invited to anything to do with royalty--."

"Well, I mean, we have." Cole shrugged loosely, not going into much more detail on the subject. He didn't need to anyway, since Jay just gave a slow nod, his eyes briefly tracking over to Lloyd, who seemed to be sharing a conversation between Kai and their winged companion.

"That was, you know, ninja stuff." The lightning ninja replied, in time that strongly implied the idiom of 'water under the bridge'. "We were there to do a job. But here, it's to have fun." He seemed fairly ecstatic about that fact.

They'd all been told of the reason for the trip not long before they'd actually set off. No real precursor, more of a 'pack your bags, we're heading off the following morning'. The invitation had been carefully constructed, a cream envelope with gold embossing announcing that the contents were for all of them to read.

You have been cordially invited to the Shintaro Kingdom to partake in the birthday celebrations of the crowned Princess Vania.

It had read funny, and Jay had mentioned that it sounded portentous.

An engagement that included all the ninja. It wasn't a battle to fight, it was a party to attend. Down time that they all agreed they needed and deserved.

"Finally, something that's not stressful." Sighed Jay as the group came to a flight of stairs, which led up briefly to a huge standing white door, arched with golden and near cerulean blue tones that made the white stand out even more, if that was even possible. At this point, their guide turned back with a bit more of a measured expression. It was calm, but also the face of a man doing his job.

"You are about to be introduced to the King of the Kingdom of Shintaro. He's been looking forward to your arrival." the man said with a smile, "We've all heard of the great deeds you've done. It's a pleasure to have you here. Now, King Vangelis awaits."

The man turned back to the door, flying a little higher to its centre, "It is with great honour," He began, the booming voice resonating around the now open throne room. Cole's mouth dropped at the magnitude, and it's beauty. It seemed to be an expression shared by everyone as they stepped forwards.

"That I present the famed Ninja!"

To say the day was busy would be an understatement, but Cole knew that the following day, the day of the actual birthday celebration would be a whole lot more hectic and exciting. They'd been given a proper tour of the castle after they'd met with King Vangelis, followed promptly by a walk around the city with the same royal guard as before guiding them through streets that were all filled with people setting up for the following days celebrations. There was a sense of calm to the place, a nice warmth and camaraderie that was displayed by anyone they had met. Everyone worked together, shared tasks and helped out in order to have everything done before the sun had dropped behind the horizon. Between walking through thin streets, sidestepping people walking down the paths with arms full of colourful bunting, Cole had spent a good portion of the day lost in thought.

It was always a problem when he noticed something he couldn't quite put his finger on; and this kingdom just made him feel weird. The foreign familiarity of everything, the cleanliness of the air he breathed in struck a chord in his lungs, the way the sun dipped down below the halo of clouds that circled the peak of the mountain, below the city limits. How the orange colour still glowed from underneath the blanket before it finally disappeared behind the horizon line for the day. It was incredible.

Déjà vu inducing, but incredible.

Eventually, they were all guided to their rooms for the night. Guest rooms in the Palace of all places, an entire hallway dedicated to bedrooms specifically for visitors to the kingdom. As rooms went, they were lavish. Four poster beds adorned each one, huge amounts of room space, closets and cabinets that would go unused in their brief stay in the sleeping quarters, but it was more than what Cole had anticipated. What with going from sharing a room both at the monastery and shared living spaces in the reduced size of the Bounty, to finally getting his own place to sleep when they'd remodeled and rebuilt the burnt down shell of their old training ground, it was nice to have that privacy maintained. Anyway, if Cole needed anyone then he could just head to the room to the left or right of him and find one of his friends to talk to. Privacy didn't mean constantly staying alone.

Yet, Cole was alone with his thoughts. Laid out on top of the beds quilt, the light from the day now faded fully into the din of the night, it was a time when he was meant to be winding down, not letting his mind run wild.

He just couldn't stop thinking.

It was one thing, to have a minor inkling at familiarity, but it was another thing to be so sure that he'd heard of a place before to such an extent that somewhere, deep down, he'd seen this place before. He'd seen the climbing walls of ivory white, the buildings topped with cladding of the best blue and the most perfect gold that gave such an ethereal quality to everything. It was such a unique place. Anyone who'd ever set eyes on a kingdom like Shintaro would forever have the place branded into their memories. There was nothing like it in the whole of Ninjago, yet there Cole was with one arm draped over his eyes in an effort to bring sleep to him even in his energised state, sifting through his memories for anything that would help him make sense of the feeling that had planted itself in his chest.

It brought with it warmth, a softness, the sensation almost tinted with rose in the best way.

There was something that Cole was missing. Forgetting.

However the darkened room, the softness of the mattress beneath him, the calming silence that the night always brought about; even plagued with an active mind, sleep was never really far away.

Cole fell into it, the comforting and restful silence.

For what felt like a blink.

He felt his eyes crack open far too soon, though he must have been asleep. His legs were now tangled with the bed covers and he'd migrated over onto his chest, hair falling in his face and what looked like a less than glamorous drool spot just beside his pillow. He had been sleeping.

The dim blue light of the early early morning fizzled through the windows, providing a bit of light into the previously darkened room.

Cole could go back to sleep easily, all he had to do was let his eyes slip closed.

Then a noise met his ears. It was faint, the sound of shuffling almost. Enough to make his brow furrow and get him to sit up in bed, though a short glance around his room didn't reveal anything to him other than that his vision was still blurry from sleep.

Then the noise happened again. Much clearer this time. Distinct, even, enough that Cole's eyes were open and alert in an instant.

He wasn't sure how he'd missed it, but Cole was sure that barely a second ago he had been alone in his room.

Now…

Well, now he was staring into the eyes of… Something. It was short, purple skinned and had a mouth of sharpened teeth. A hood was pulled low over its head but it seemed as equally shocked to see Cole awake as Cole was to see the nightly visitor.

Everything happened so quickly after that. The intruder started to make their escape, but even in the dregs of sleep, the earth master was quicker. Barely two steps away from the bed and the creature was laid out on the floor with Cole standing above him.

He was about to speak, to question the reason behind why this… thing was lurking in his room. Where he'd even come from?

Before a tiny glint of gold caught his eye.

Cole's eyes flicked briefly down to the locket around the intruders neck, clicked open in their brief struggle. It held two pictures inside, and before he realised it, Cole was reaching for the small piece of metal. Tugging it from the other person's neck, the chain breaking at the clasp, the pictures that were held reverently inside froze him to the spot. Half stood up, clothes still crinkled from sleep, the creature on its back just at his feet going all but forgotten as he stared at the faces that looked back from the black and white images.

On the left side, the unmistakable face of his father. A small smile on his face, as he was looking over the expanse between the open locket, over to the picture that was held in the opposing side.

A face that Cole had feared would fade from his mind for years. Being left with nothing much other than fond memories, though they were few and far between. Context and details lost over time, fading as many old memories did. The visage of his mother looked back up at him, as beautiful as she'd been the last time he'd ever seen her. He couldn't have asked for anyone better to have helped raise him.

Then, puzzle pieces began to slowly slot together, and a memory that had never even crossed his mind for a second was now pushed to the forefront.

It was clear, scarily so, for how buried it had been.

"What do you mean you're leaving." Came a high voice, almost whiny and temperamental. Small hands reached up and grabbed onto the closest thing they could reach, that being the bottom of the woman's shirt. The material was soon balled up in the child's palms, fabric stretching as it was pulled down .

There was a quiet sigh, and arms reached down beneath the young boy's arms, scooping him up as if he weighed absolutely nothing. Dark hair, in vast need of a haircut dangled in front of his eyes, it was fluffed up and looked like he'd been rolling around on the grass, or messing around in some undergrowth if the twigs and loose pieces of foliage tangled in the strands were anything to go by.

Lilly looked down at her son with a soft smile, then leaned forwards, pressing a prolonged kiss to the cheek of the boy in her arms.

Cole squealed in retaliation, voice high and arms flailing as he failed to free himself from his mother's unrelenting grip. Still, the kiss went on until eventually, finally, she pulled back. Only to dot smaller briefer ones over his cheeks and nose.

"I already told you yesterday, sweetie." Her voice was soft, but measured, as though they'd had this conversation a few times before. She crouched down, placing Cole back onto solid ground, then ruffled his hair even with all the earthly mess accumulated in it.

"But you're going to be gone for so long." Cole crossed his arms over his chest, his face dropping into a sulk.

Lilly crouched down more to her son's height, even though her toddler was still quite on the shorter side than his peers. "Only four days, Cole. I'll be back before you know it. It's only a short trip to Shintaro, your grandfather needs a little bit of help with something and he needs me there."

Cole looked up, brow furrowed in far too much suspicion for someone so young. "Because you're strong?"

"Yes, honey, because I'm strong."

"And- and," He paused, his fingers looping into a couple of the torn holes in the hem of his shirt, picking at the loose threads there. "And, you'll be okay? You'll be back? Because, you know, you're--" The words were muffled as he brought his hands up to his mouth, the sleeves of his jumper blocking the words.

Dutifully, Lilly leaned forwards further until Cole could move closer to her ear to spill his small secret.

"Because you're more fun than dad…" He whispered, and she pulled back with a wide smile and silently shaking shoulders.

"We'll keep that between the two of us." The words sounded like she'd gained some type of achievement. "But I promise, I'll be back. And whilst I'm gone, you're in charge?"

Cole's eyes only widened, "Really?" He grinned.

"Really, sweetie. Really. I need to have my little man looking out for my other older man."

Cole slowly came back to reality, still stood stock still in the centre of his bedroom, the locket held reverently in his grip as the blurred sleepy feeling that had overtaken his vision was replaced with a slight sting which could only mean the onset of tears.

He shook his head, drew one sleeve over his eyes to catch any stray droplets, before his attention shot immediately down to the floor.

The empty floor.

Cole cursed.

He'd been so caught off guard, so caught up in memory he was surprised he even remembered that whoever the intruder was, they'd disappeared as promptly as they had so suddenly appeared. The floor was bare, no inch or indicator that there had even been anyone there in the first place, or if Cole had just been dreaming.

The locket in his hands stated otherwise.

He stared down at it, his feet moving him back over to the edge of the bed in autopilot, where he slumped down and kept staring.

He'd always been told he looked a lot like Lilly. By anyone that had known her, the comparison was always drawn. Or at least, they did draw it. They looked at him, old family friends, long time neighbours. They all reverently stated that he was just like his mother.

Until any comment like that slowly came to a stop.

Cole hadn't heard it much at all, following her passing at least.

His fingers traced their way over the image, moving with the contours of her face, captured and frozen in an everlasting expression of peace and contentment.

It was the exact way he remembered her, that small smile that was always there. The warmth in her expression, even towards the end.

Cole hadn't been allowed to see her as she'd only gotten sicker and sicker, but he remembered her laid in bed at home. He'd spent most of his time there, sat quietly with a book or sharing headphones and music with her to keep her company. He could never have imagined that one day he'd leave that room and he'd never see her again.

"That same song again?"

The words came out of nowhere, an internal and forgotten dialogue that dragged sharply at Cole's heartstrings.

"Well, if you want to change the song, you can be in charge of the music," He was sitting on the right side of her bed. His mother was laid just under the covers, her back propped up with a couple pillows and her hair was pulled back from her face with a hair-tie. Even around the usual expression on her face, she was clearly sickly. Her skin was paler, a grey tone permeating the darker tone. There were bags under her eyes, ones had just got deeper and deeper with each passing day. Cole was sat cross-legged on top of the covers, music player held in his hand and a single earphone hanging from one ear. His mother had the other one.

She held up one hand to stop him, "No, no, the technology is far too complicated."

He closed his eyes, before holding the player up to her, "You literally just press this arrow button--"

"As I said, sweetie, far too complicated."

"You grew up with this tech as much as I did, mom."

That seemed to catch her out for a second, but she just chuckled and shook her head. "No, no, I didn't. This is, why you're holding the music box--"

"Player."

"And I'm just listening to it." Lilly said plainly, then rested one hand on her son's knee afterwards, squeezing lightly. "Though you don't need to be sitting there flicking through songs for me, don't you have homework? Or friends to write letters to."

At that point, Cole knew that she was just trying to make him laugh. Phones were a thing and she was fully aware of that factor, if the grin that split apart her previously stoney facade meant anything.

Cole laughed, resting his head back against the headboard. "I'm spending today with you. I'll get my homework done tomorrow, I promise."

"You'd better." Lilly smiled, threading a hand through his hair. He just paused for a second, allowing his eyes to slip closed at the contact, "Otherwise we'll have to tell your dad that you did it and then rush to get it done last minute, all the while trying not to get caught in the lie."

Cole just grinned even more, "You're words, mom, not mine." He held up his hands in mock surrender. "I'll sit in here tomorrow and do my work. Deal?"

"Or," She spread her hands, as if she was going to impart a revelation upon the world. "You could sit outside, because it's been sunny the past few days and you've been cooped up with me." Lilly pointed to the window of the room. The curtains were drawn, they always were. It kept the room dim, the light from getting too harsh, but there was a warm glow from the sun permeating the material.

Cole sighed. He could sit outside, he could sit in the middle of the flower beds. Sure, it would frustrate his dad and track mud back into the house, but with the sun shining down on everything, the colours and the smell floating in the air around him; it would be worth it to get his school work done outside. Yet, there was also the fact that he wanted to sit and spend time with his mother. He wasn't a child, he wasn't sheltered from the world. His mom had been sick for a while and she only ever seemed to get worse and not better.

He could see how it affected family life too. It was rare that Lilly got up out of bed anymore, and with his dad out working it left Cole with the lion's share of chores and jobs to get done. He didn't mind, how could he? It kept everything clean, his mom didn't get worried and his dad wasn't stressed over the unfinished tasks when he came back home from a performance or rehearsal. But it was clear that what was happening to Lilly was affecting everyone. Smiling was hard to come by whenever he left her bedroom, he was always partially focused on a task along with wondering if his mom was okay.

Which was why it made it easier sitting with her and getting stuff done. If he was worried, all he had to do was look to his left and see that she was fine.

It made the day easier to handle.

"Cole, you're going to sit outside tomorrow, right? Have a quiet day, leave chores alone for a while. Go on a walk or something." Lilly offered with a tilted head, "No rush to get things done."

"Other than homework."

She nodded in agreement, "Other than homework. Which you will do--"

"Outside." They said in unison.

Cole smiled and leant over to press a kiss to his mom's forehead, "I'll have a quiet day tomorrow then, mom."

"You'd better."

That night, he'd walked out of her room like he did every other day. The following day he'd brought her breakfast, then walked out into the middle of the bed of chrysanthemums with a maths textbook slung under his arms. The day had been far too unassuming for it to be anything but normal.

Cole hadn't thought that the final memory he shared with his mother would be something so mundane. She deteriorated rapidly afterwards. He was kept away from it, prevented from going into her room. He knew the reason behind it, the attempt to shield him from what must have been the last few days of his mother's life.

But staring down at the picture in the locket, a face that he hadn't seen, hadn't thought about properly for years, it brought everything crashing back. Every birthday, every small conversation. Every night spent with his dad's old record player spinning in the corner of the room, his small hands in her sure grip, his feet - donned in fluffy socks - were stood on top of hers as she danced her way around the living room of his childhood home, guiding Cole's movements.

She'd been to Shintaro, she may have even walked the same halls he'd walked that morning. He may have literally followed in her footsteps.

Though that realisation fell into the background as the first of the tears dripped slowly down his cheek and landed as a dark mark on the bed covers. More only continued to follow as he looked at her picture in his hand. One of his dad, the other of his mom; their family back together again in a way that Cole had never imagined, or expected to happen.

The tears wouldn't stop flowing, the hiccuped breathing that came with crying was silenced by his own hand clamped over his mouth.

He'd just had someone in his room, but he didn't care about it during the moment. He'd found his mother's locket around said creature's neck, but that fact moved to the outer reaches of his awareness as Cole sat on the edge of his bed, head and shoulders slumped forwards as if acting as a barrier between the world around him and the precious memory held in his hands.

Even with his found family in rooms both to the left and right of his own, he stayed where he was. Tears falling slowly and silently, shoulders shaking minutely. The rising sun had begun to show itself now, a line of hazy orange flowing warmly into his room. Cole could get up, he honestly should go and get someone and tell them about what had taken place.

He just found he couldn't move. He didn't want to move, he didn't want anyone to see him in the state he was in.

Crying over memories that were so far in the past, long forgotten until that one moment. The warmth and happiness of his mother's smile, her soft voice yet foreboding and stoic demeanor.

Cole could wait until everyone else was awake before he mentioned what had happened.

For now, he was content to sit in the comfort of the memories of his mom, his palm closing as he clicked the locket shut.

Into the Dark - When Cole investigates a mysterious visitor, the ninja aren't sure what to believe. Cole is frustrated with this lack of team support, until Princess Vania reveals a secret entrance that leads to an underground mine beneath Shintaro. (11:15 AM)

The Worst Rescue Ever - The ninja attempt to rescue Cole, but the bickering of his fellow prisoners, the Geckles and Munce, alerts the Skull Sorcerer, and soon the ninja are prisoners too. (11:00 AM)

The Two Blades - In order to escape the Skull Sorcerer's chain-gang, the ninja must convince the Munce and Geckles to put aside their distrust and work together... by promising them something they may not be able to deliver -- The Blades of Deliverance! (11:15 AM)

For a Few Duncans More - While trying to photocopy his butt on Chef's fancy new copier Duncan accidentally makes an entire other Duncan. Great! This other Duncan can do all the school stuff while the real Duncan chills. (5:00 PM)

He Who Wears the Clown - After trying on the nose of a clown Owen learns that this is how clowns are made and he is stuck as a clown until he can trick someone else into asking to try on the nose. (5:15 PM)

September 15th:

Us 'R' Toys - When Chef brings in some old toys from his childhood he, Duncan and Gwen, each get magically sucked into one of the toys and need to find a way to get back into their own bodies. (5:00 PM)

Dream Worriers - Izzy forgets the ending to her most amazing dream of all time, so the kids travel into her mind to find out what happened. (5:15 PM)

We Bare Bears

The biggest Cartoon Network premiere this month is the TV premiere of We Bare Bears: The Movie. Starting on September 5th, We Bare Bears will have all-day marathons to catch everyone up to it, starting at 6 AM. This will lead up to the movie, which will air at 6 PM on September 7th.

Barbados

“That was a sick bottom turn that’s got to be an 8 point wave or so, oh and here’s daniel, trying to steal lara’s fan club again.” -- Barbados was an absolute disaster, and the dreamiest trip all at the— not at the same time. it kinda switched back and forth. You can know things are bad when I’m questioning if i disobeyed God’s plan or not. When things go so bad, though, why would my mind go there? Trials and tests are amazing lessons and sure they could actually be consequences if I don’t pray about a decision, but I did pray about Barbados. The arguments started.. I believe on the plane to Miami. Do I remember all of them? no. Did i have less patience because of my bloated infected abdomen? Probably. But Lara is a very irrational person and has more irrational fears than anyone i’ve ever, like, imagined. Once the argument would arise Shay would completely tune us out, and Shay upset me because when i tried to make aware my health issues she almost cared less than Lara. I quickly discovered this trip that I really like to have fun, take risks, and seek adventure. When those things just happen spontaneously and I don’t have to make them happen, I’m even more psyched. Lara is the opposite and she also likes to spend a zillion dollars on nice food and housing and things so now you can see where problems came up. Lara started treating me like a slave pretty early on and carried on the neverending Maui curse of “Rosie’s an idiot” where i get teased to make Maui dwellers seem cooler and smarter. Can i just say being the driver the whole trip was one of the most humbling parts. The day we landed in Barbados when my stomach felt like a basketball had slowly been inflated in it because we hadn’t gotten food, Lara wouldn’t let me get out of the car in broad daylight to walk in the grocery store. Everyone in Barbados is black, Lara is super racist, but we don’t blame her for that because she lives on a rock. That first day, the top fears Lara has were all happening (being in a third world looking place, not having service, being lost) and she had an absolute meltdown. So fast forward a night or two sleeping in the good old board bag with zero sympathy and skip over a few confrontational arguments and talks with the parentals, and here i am having spent thousands on this trip with the one goal to selflessly serve the Claydon, being treated like I’m actually making things worse and hearing Lara had a plan B if i hadn’t come. Shay couldn’t find the purpose of her being on the trip either and we were all stuck. My patience was running dry on Lara’s “Enneagram 6 loyalty to her father” with her not letting me ever be right because “Dad does it this way.”

Then came Daniel, L.O.L. The most outrageous hilarious filterless flirty energetic huntington beach partier pro surfer who followed me around the entire two weeks. And also came Vania, and Fiona, and Sean and Aline. Hanging with the pros is what turned this trip upside down and made it from the most boring thing filming the waves for hours and not doing anything because we couldn’t taint lara’s high maintenance routine, to dying laughing at daniel and hearing the T about the surf tour life, and routing for 7 people instead of one. To Shay and I becoming the stars of the APP tour live cam. To making banana pancakes with the Latinas. To taking sympathy from Lara’s competitors for being a pit crew (not proud of that). Then finally to surfing the most perfect pro waves on this remote island, getting called in to waves by Daniel, snapping a board, dropping in on Pipeline waves at Soup Bowl. Hot tubbing at the after party and listening to french surfers’ conversations. Lara had to practice manners with me when i told her i felt like she was treating me like a slave and never saying thank you, so yes it got a bit better. I still cooked, cleaned, packed, filmed, and quietly let her treat me like I’m dumb (she admitted she didn’t respect my opinions because i’ve never been on a competition trip before so how could i possibly know what to do). It was hard to hear Jes and Padres excuse “she’s in competition mode” when none of my other competitor friends acted like she did. And I felt like I was failing tests of patience, mercy, and unconditional love, but when Mom said i should ease up on myself because i feel like crap and i’m trying my best, and when i decided to let loose and just have fun with all these new people, i just did my lara duties and had a great time. Barbados is beautiful and the things i got to experience there were such a dream. I’ve learned to be more bold to have fun, to be a good example around people in a dark place, to be patient with even the most unreasonable people, to not let money get in the way of experiences, to know that things can seem miserable but can turn around so fast, and to pray way more. God is so funny, why does he lead me to the weirdest situations, but I love it.

Expectations of The Adolescents

Who else remember the feeling of being 17? Because I still remember mine. Like what the grown-ups told me, it was one of the greatest times in my life (besides being a kid with no responsibility). Partying with friends, breaking curfews, and basically discovering life. Sometimes, I even wish I were Zac Efron in "17 Again". But, boy, there's so much more than that by being 17. It's the year of transition; it's the coming of age.

And it's exactly what's going on in the life of Alle, Nayma, Sifa, Ikhsan, and Fira. A group of five high schoolers, whose paths crossed each others’ during the hype of We The Fest 2016. They are different in so many ways, and they don't always find common grounds, but that's – plus their hobbies of thrift-shopping, picture-hunting, and gossiping – exactly what glued them to each other. But, aren’t those supposed to happen? Wouldn’t it be boring to see only black and white? I guess that’s why the universe put them together; to color each other’s life, to help each other get through the generation.

My friend; Stephany, and I, got the chance to get to know them, the cool kids of their age. We spent hours hanging out together; taking pictures, shooting videos, and fooling around. Now here, we present you the results, the cry of their hearts.

Things you know about growing up?

Growing up, I was taught to be grateful and to respect each other.

What’s your biggest fear about growing up?

My biggest fear about growing up is to have responsibilities and making decision about my life.

I get my expectations about growing up from movies, magazines, and TV shows. I like “Gossip Girl” so much; I’d say Serena is my spirit animal. She’s so normal and not as bitchy as the others.

Who do you look up to during this kind of time, who’s your biggest influence?

My friends. I feel like I can confide everything in them because we’re going through the same phase right now. I know they will always listen to what I’ve got to say, and they will never judge me.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

In a clothing store, which owned by me. The store would sell one-of-a-kind clothes; they would be different from what other stores were selling. I want it that way because I want my clothes to scream the word “me”.

What advise would you give to your fellow friends who are facing the same stage right now?

Stop doing shits to impress everyone around you. Be yourself.

If you could be anyone, specifically a grown-up, who would it be?

Dylan Sada. She’s so cool; she gives no care to what others got to say about her.

The only thing I know about growing up is it’s the time when you will finally realize that this world is so fucked up.

6-years old-me would have been thinking about the freedom I’d get, once I became an adult. Looking back now, growing up is not only about getting that freedom. Sure, being free to do as you choose will be exciting, but all the decisions you had to make and taking responsibility comes along with growing up.

Fear about making wrong decisions, changing, and becoming that person who I hate the most.

Where do you get your expectations about growing up?

I get my expectations from those who got experiences.

I would like others to see that I’m capable of change, and what I liked or did in the past might not be the same as now.

What advise would you give to your fellow friends who are facing the same stage right now?

Don’t try too hard to be someone that you don’t like. Just be yourself.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

Release: 2006 (Original PSone in 2000)

My Rating: 7.5

The Long Story Short: Valkyrie Profile is at times frustrating and the best ending is obnoxiously difficult to achieve. Despite that it remains a fun, touching and beautiful rpg that withstands the test of time.

Review:

I’m trying to be as impartial as I can and so rated this game a 7.5 based on how I feel its merits stack up against its flaws. However, Valkyrie Profile is rated 10/10 in my heart and if I had to pick a favorite game this would be it. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is the 2006 PSP port of the PSone rpg Valkyrie Profile. The PSP port preceded a second entry in the series, and also helped to make the limited run of Valkyrie Profile more accessible. (To this day I have only ever seen one copy of the PSone edition in person and still kick myself for not buying it then. That was six years ago.) Luckily the PSP re-release is much easier to track down. It features re-translated names (Rucian became Lucian, ect.) and new CG cutscenes. Beyond that I’ve not noticed any changes.

The player takes the role of Lenneth Valkyrie, one of three sister goddesses who serve Odin, and sets out on a quest to pick the strongest recently deceased warriors to send to Valhalla to fight in a war between the gods. Over the course of eight chapters Valkyrie flies around the world map, visiting locations where she senses a warrior is about to die and recruiting them. She also has a secondary duty: purifying the world of evil spirits and the undead. This second task is what forms the game’s dungeons. Valkyrie profile is partially a 2D side scrolling platformer in the tradition of the Metroid-vania genre of games (This similarity is enhanced by the fact the game’s art direction and enemies often lean European-Gothic rather than Nordic which is a slightly disconcerting choice). Valkyrie maneuvers around dungeons with the ability to jump, slide and swing along overhead chains and ropes. Valkyrie Profile introduces new flavor to its platforming by use of crystals Valkyrie can shoot onto flat surfaces, including vertical walls. She can stand on them, explode them under her to propel her in the opposite direction or stand on a floating cloud of the resulting particles and even break them and use the pieces. The game uses this gimmick to wonderful effect, making it central to several puzzles. The dungeons in Valkyrie Profile are often fun and a nice exercise in puzzle solving, but sometimes become too esoteric to solve without help or sinking hours into them which can lead to a lot of frustration.

In these dungeons Valkyrie will encounter roaming enemies. She can freeze them with her crystals to avoid them or strike them with her sword to initiate combat. Valkyrie Profile has an interesting combat system in which each of four party members is assigned a button on the controller. Pressing the button for a character causes them to strike with their default attack. This is a simple system to get the hang of and the game slowly increases the complexity as enemies begin to get better at blocking and the player has to balance weapon power versus number of attacks. If the player chains enough attacks on an enemy they unleash a limit break unique to each warrior or a powerful magic attack. Chaining can be vital in late game. Just as important is the ability to perform overkill on enemies so that they drop items, experience multiplying crystals and gems that reduce the cool down time on magic and limit breaks.

All of this is done to train einherjar for Odin’s war. Lenneth is asked to send up at least one einherjar with specific skills every chapter. At the end of each chapter her performance is rated and she is given rewards of items and Materialization Points which are used to materialize items from the party menu in place of going to a store. All this is a very solid foundation but there are several touches that make this game fiddly to play, and makes the ‘good’ ending almost impossible to earn without a game guide to reference.

First of all there are three difficulty settings for the game that are complete misnomers. Easy features reduced difficulty but becomes perhaps the hardest in the long run as the reduced experience and item gain takes its toll on character growth. Additionally the ‘good’ ending isn’t available on easy. Normal is somewhat better balanced. However, hard is the only mode that lets you visit all the dungeons and recruit all of the characters in the game. The difficulty hike from normal to hard isn’t that pronounced but it is exacerbated by every recruited character starting at level one in hard mode. This sounds frustrating but in fact as the player clears dungeons and solves puzzles they will be rewarded with “event experience” that can be doled out to any party member at will. It’s not enough to catch a new character up with the rest of the party, but it is enough to get them in fighting shape or prep them for Valhalla. In some ways this is an advantage because a large part of character growth is determined by Capacity Points that they gain when they level up. These can be spent on improving einherjar’s personality traits and giving them both combat skills and knowledge skills that Freya requests. CP pools stop growing at 999 so if you recruit characters in normal mode they often have capped CP and have lost a lot of potential growth.

When it comes to story Valkyrie Profile believes in show rather than tell. Very little is said outright to the player about the machinations of the gods or the state of the human world, but through conversations the player witnesses in Valhalla and the situations Lenneth sees when she recruits einherjar stories begin to come together. Far more is implied than is ever said so it’s easy to pick up new details with every playthrough, particularly if you also play the sequel. This is good because unless you manage to complete to rather unintuitive steps to reach the good ending the overarching plot of the game is pretty dry. The story is communicated mostly through dialogue, and unfortunately it’s partially acted. Unfortunately because all the text appears on screen anyway and much of the voice acting is wince-inducingly bad. Adding worse to bad, even in the Lenneth port, a great deal of the Japanese to English translation came out somewhat stilted and awkward.

Luckily the music of Valkyrie Profile is well worth listening to. It features several very nice pieces that straddle the line between retro synth and more modern orchestral soundtracks. The original game played most of its major scenes out in the 2D style of its gameplay, with a few CG cutscenes to display large set pieces and events that don’t feature any people in them. The Lenneth port adds a handful of pretty CG cutscenes to add flavor to major events (for the most part. Some choices for the CG were a little odd to me.) I found them very pretty and nice touches.

Valkyrie Profile is one of those games you either love or you hate. It has some fun hooks hampered by esoteric puzzles and a main story you need to jump through hoops to get to. That said, the story is worth tracking down, and with some patience, the dungeon puzzles are worth solving. Valkyrie Profile creates an interesting and complicated world that had amazing potential for more sequels than it’s been given thus far. I have my fingers forever crossed in hopes of more.

Third day of the new year!

Went to hangout with ryan and leighton. They wanted to try marugame udon so!!! Also i saw adam but didnt say hi, oops. In any case. We were like hey let’s do something like walk around! But it rained a little so we bought some cuties from trader joe’s and ended up at ryan’s house and basically sat in his kotatsu for 4 hours then i came home. went to portland with alice to check out apartments!!! woot. lots of fun going around/looking at the city. landed on thursday night and waited at the airport for alice and ate mcdonalds/watched the office haha friday: alice had work all day ): so i went out to meet up with yuri and leslie who happened to be out in portland too! walked to the alberta arts district to eat with them at pok pok noi. just walked around afterwards exploring in the rain before getting back home to eat dinner with alice at like 8…lol we went to bamboo sushi in sw and alice treated me to omakase as a congrats on getting my new yob!! woot also did some walking around in the neighborhood - will likely spend quite a bit of time in the powell city of books! saturday: the day we actually went out to see properties! grabbed some blue star donuts and headed into nw district - looked at some apartments and then grabbed lunch at this cute italian place that i will most likely frequent. started talking to alice about stuff and being weak, i cried and then we got free hazelnut ice cream…LOL. it was really good sunday: since we toured places that i actually liked yesterday, we basically just decided to walk around different areas. waterfront park, pioneer square…we spent a while in nordstrom rack and sephora looking for stuff for alice! lol. then dinner again at bamboo sushi and dessert at salt & straw :> monday morning: waking up early to get to the airport for alice’s flight. bought more donuts at the airport for mom! then i sat at the airport watching the office and eating until the airplane ride where i got a whole row to myself~

and that was my portland trip shortened LOL. but~ excited about the new city, definitely excited about the donuts!

My first day of work!! Went in earlies and had onboarding for about two hours with amother new hire. Then i returned to my room where i met my coworker and my manager! Both of whom are in the same room and we each have a desk. (Ima have to request a standing desk :O) anywayss. Got a company laptop - thank god it’s not bulky. And then i’ve got two monitors on my desk too! #bless

Then jlw went through more ux stuff with me and i also went to a stand up meeting. Like. Those are real man. Then went to company lunch! Where new hires introduce themselves and i realize that i have never used a dishwasher before and everyone was shookt lol.

Afterwards, i went to a sprint meeting AND BOIIIII PLANNING POKER DOE??? Lololol. I have to say i did not understand a single thing that was going on. Took about an hour and a half…

Anyways. went back in where jlw continued where she left off and then finally let me read some onboarding stuff on my own before she headed out at 4 and then me, leaving swiftly at 4 as well LOL
