Samantha: Yeah, she's fine now. But it just goes to show you, you never know what can happen when you're traveling.

Emma: That's true. Speaking of unexpected things, have you heard any good jokes lately?

Samantha: I heard one the other day that made me laugh out loud. Why don't scientists trust atoms?

Emma: I don't know, why?

Samantha: Because they make up everything!

Samantha: Yeah, apparently the act of chewing helps increase blood flow to the brain.

Emma: That's so interesting. Speaking of brain power, have you read any good books lately?

Samantha: Yes, I just finished "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah. It was amazing.

I immerse myself in the lives of locals, living with them, and trying to learn their home cooking. Today marks Day 27 in Fukui Prefecture, my 11.5th out of the 47 prefectures (the 0.5 because I feel like I haven't fully completed the challenge here yet). Onward I go to my 12.5th destination, Gifu. While I'm still carrying a tinge of sadness from not forming stronger bonds in Fukui, the show must go on. Life has its ups and downs, and I'm determined to keep pushing forward. However, just when I thought the day might not hold much excitement, it took an unexpected turn. Although I didn't get to experience home cooking today, I had the incredible opportunity to witness a traditional fishing technique called the ukai up close and personal. Life's surprises are a reminder that each day holds something special, even when things don't go as planned.
