Bill Clinton.

I'm half joking, but he has probably done more to take the edge off the far right than any other political figure in my lifetime. At this point, the mainstream right is still quite angry with him (for pardoning Marc Rich, for what I believe is a manufactured affair scandal, etc.), but there have been a lot of Hillary scandals that amounted to just nothing at all, and as a result the right has lost a lot of credibility. Some of that was with the spurious Travelgate scandal that I remember them trying to blow up into a bigger thing when I was in college, but the main culprit here is just that Bill Clinton is just so charismatic and nice and caring and the left really likes him. He's enough of a personality cult that his indictment would make a lot of people on the right really angry at the injustice of it all.

Which in turn might make them even angrier at him, especially since he's still got quite a bit of power. His power in the form of "the left still likes him and will defend him to the bitter end" seems pretty much limitless right now, and that's very unfortunate.

Basically, I want Obama to keep on winning, but I'm terrified of what his inevitable future scandals will do. In some ways, having a president who knows he's going to be perceived as having a lot of scandals out of the box is like a shield against the far right, and it would be nice to have that somewhere other than Obama. It would be nice to see someone succeeding politically even though there are some legitimate legal/ethical troubles in the past, just so that there's a sane precedent to draw on.

(Would this seem more plausible if I told you that I don't think Bill Clinton had any of those troubles in the first place? Probably not.)

Coming distractions.

Whenever there's Republican misconduct that the right would like to cram down America's memory hole, the GOP playbook recommends one fail-safe solution: fabricate an equally bad scandal for the Democrats and hype it unceasingly. Think Filegate and Travelgate during the Clinton years. Or the made-up Fast & Furious and Benghazi "scandals" of the Obama administration.

Recently, there's been plenty of Republican malfeasance they would prefer you not think about. Like the violent MAGA mob of thugs that tried to overturn a legitimate election. Or, the wave of right-wing terrorism sweeping the country. Or, the confiscation of abortion and voting rights by GOP legislatures. Or, the Trump family being nothing but a gang of thieves who can't seem to stop committing felonies. But, most important, are the innumerable criminal prosecutions facing Donald Trump himself. Time to bring out the old playbook.

Sadly, however, the Dems don't seem to be providing much in the way of scandal material of late. Not to worry. Now that they have regained the majority in the House, the ever-inventive Republicans assure us they will dream up all sorts of Democratic misdeeds to pique our interest.

Last week, Republican representatives Jim Jordan and James Comer announced they will be getting to the bottom of the "Biden Family Crime Syndicate," starting with an investigation into the president's son, Hunter Biden, and his infamous laptop. Which, they are certain, contains all sorts of juicy info about how Hunter used his connections in business dealings with Ukraine and China. However, as former federal prosecutor Ron Filipkowski observes,

The only thing that makes any of this relevant for a congressional inquiry is whether Joe Biden was directly involved or benefitted financially from what Hunter was up to. On that score, the evidence is sorely lacking.

We also learned that Georgia nutcase Marjorie Taylor Greene intends to investigate the Biden Justice Department's treatment of the January 6 defendants (they're political prisoners, don't you know) and will seek to defund the FBI for its jackbooted lawlessness in executing a legal search of arch-criminal Trump's Mar-a-Lago lair.

In addition, congressional Republicans have vowed to grill Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, over his role in the COVID pandemic (apparently, he was responsible for creating the virus). Tweeted House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy menacingly, "He owes the American people answers."

So, for the next two years, look for the House of Representatives to be a virtual three-ring circus of phony, ginned-up probes, inquiries and investigations. Because the GOP desperately needs to divert our attention. And discredit any revelations about Trump.

Trevor Noah apparently hasn’t been paying attention to the dead surrounding the Clintons. He also apparently doesn’t know how the President is elected. This whole segment was clearly designed in an attempt to deflate the attention to the Clintons.

To eliminate the first part of his idiocy:

Hillary can’t use her “power” to become President, because it’s an elected office. The Electoral College voted against her. Despite funding a fake dossier, the Constitution won the election for President Trump -- as rightly it was designed to do in situations such as 2016. Of course, Trevor Noah would have people think that Hillary had any power to become President is a logical fallacy -- Moving the goalposts and tossing out a red herring on the play in the process.

Despite other possibilities, and not saying it was them, we’ll only cover the conspiracy theory that it was the Clintons. However, truth be told, Epstein had a lot of wealthy people with their own connections who would rather have seen him dead than go to trial for many possible reasons -- such as an extreme hatred of pedophiles. The conspiracy theory says the Clintons have racked up a trail of deaths by various circumstances within their local circle, uncannily solving some of their more difficult problems. When researching their 1st Degree of Separation ties, this appears to emerge as a pattern.

Reviewing that pattern, the Conspiracy asks: How many people die in car crashes and airplane crashes that are all linked to the same people?

Assuming their rate of lost friends and loosely affiliated colleagues over the same duration of time, most people have not lost anyone in any of these situations so frequently. Statistics point to a remarkable confluence whereby the average American may experience at least two of these situations within 40 years. Excluding mass events, such a family involved in a singular incident, this means that the Clintons are over the average, through the uprights and out of the stadium. In comparison to the mafia, this isn’t even close, because the mafia only matches against 2nd and 3rd Degree of Separation ties. They typically don’t kill within their 1st Degree circles, because that’s usually family.

These statistics are verifiable. You can look it up for yourself, just like the conspiritards do. They state that there’s an unusual correlation in situations where the dead purportedly had dirt on the Clintons -- Either Bill or Hillary, very rarely both. There are only a couple of instances where both were supposedly involved in some fashion, again, according to the conspiracy theory. The speculation that it’s Hillary behind these deaths, again, comes from the conspiracy theory that links Bill to mistresses who up and died in car crashes or confrontations. The more politically salacious items seem to align with Hillary, or so the conspiritards point out.

The conspiracy theory goes like this:

Bill couldn’t keep it in his pants. Hillary made some of these women go away, because it was embarrassing to her inner circles, family, and wealthy friends. Bill isn’t really much of a mastermind, but is very intelligent and on a political hot streak in becoming Governor. With Presidency not far from reach, the potential for a supposedly pregnant mistress was going to undermine that -- she died, and the Clintons move up. In nearly each instance of impropriety, something always seemed to happen. In business, that too seemed to point to track covering and clean up efforts. At least, so says the conspiracy.

This drives the question: If not Bill, then Hillary?

If you look at the conspiracy theories surrounding them, there’s no consensus other than “It’s THEM!” I beg to differ and suggest that their theory holds more interesting details if it’s Hillary. So let’s explore that theory twist.

If Hillary were the one orchestrating the 'cleaning', she would be a very interesting study as a possible female narcissistic sociopath (e.g. American Psycho). Her behavior could match up if you consider when she seems a bit off script or unprepared for indirect questions. If you watch Trevor Noah’s segment, she’s very well rehearsed in her talking points. Chelsea always seems more natural and fluid, but Hillary always seems her best when scripted. When not scripted or off the cuff, she comes off clunky and sounds wacky. This stems only from videos and not direct interaction, as the conspirtards use these to make their case.

If we continue down this rabbit hole, we can now see how Epstein would be a significant issue for Hillary. The threat he purportedly posed to Bill draws this notion that Hillary is once again cleaning up after Bill to protect herself. Again, all according to the conspiracy theory.

So now we need to consider the Epstein death conspiracy theory:

A guy in a tightly run prison in New York is in a cell with one other guy, a former cop who is a murderer. There’s just one thing, the guy killed people with a gun and while also a bodybuilder and trained cop, a choke hold doesn’t align with how Epstein died with those huge arms of his. What does align, and still could be that ex-cop, is a trained martial artist’s throat strike. Typically, a cop would not know how to properly do it unless they served in the military. I couldn’t find the ex-cop listed as having served.

Looking at all the other pieces takes the light off the cellmate. A lot went into shift changes, off-duty guards, negligence, and a lack of transparency from the prison. The prison has cameras. Where’s the footage?

The lack of video showing what happened outside the cell is completely unreleased or is missing. No one is asking why you can watch a guard get the shit beat out of themselves in Chico, but not of a guarded hallway in a maximum security section of a New York prison? Either they’re not releasing it or it doesn’t exist anymore. If we assume either, it points to a coverup.

Assuming someone from outside the prison, got in and went to the cell, kills Epstein with a strike to the throat, the cellmate had been convinced to look the other way or else (he’d been caught with a cell phone in the same month... in the same max security area), and slip back out between shifts, not getting caught on camera or eliminating the footage in the process, without being detected, it’s something out of the Assassin’s Creed or Hitman franchises. This scenario is highly unlikely, but here we are with Occam’s Razor. Either the cellmate killed Epstein in this conspiracy theory, or someone else with a military background did with a lot of resources. The latter aligns due to the planning precision and detail needed.

This is all well and good a theory, and isn’t factual or more than musings. The point of this exercise is to point out the fallacy in Trevor Noah’s segment and to indicate an answer to his question: If Hillary was involved in Epstein’s death, why didn’t she become President?

The only factual answer: She lost the Presidency, and Bill Clinton’s buddy Jeffrey died before going to trial like Vince Foster.

FOOTNOTE: Vince Foster is more often cited due to Whitewater, however, in this case one should consider Vince Foster’s interesting issue with the Travel Office (Travelgate). In this, and I quote, “Critics contended the firings were done to allow friends of President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton to take over the travel business and that the involvement of the FBI was unwarranted.” Noted, Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s personal flights and Epstein visited then President Clinton in the White House in the 90s. Both of these are facts and the correlation to Travelgate is unique, in that it specifically surrounded private citizens providing travel for the White House, leading to (as stated on Wikipedia) ‘Travel Office Director Billy Dale being charged with embezzlement despite found not guilty in 1995.’ In a bizarre coincidence, Epstein met with the Clintons in 1993 and at least again in 1995.
