This weekend I’ll be hosting the annual Tomo Ryu Shinobijutsu Keiko! As the 21st Soke/Grandmaster of this ancient art, it is an honor for me to host this annual event & share the ancient teachings that I received from my master with my students. . According to legend, the origins of the Tomo Ryu tradition of Shinobijutsu was developed in the Kemmu Restoration (建武の新政) as a samurai tradition that had its primary focus on it's use of the short sword (kodachi) as well as several different kobuki (old weapons). It was during this time (1333-1336) in the Shiga prefecture (known as the Omi Province before the prefectural system was established) of Japan that Gohei Tomo and two other samurai (Jinsuke Tomo and Senri Akutagawa) developed this method of warfare to serve as a means of self-protection for their families, their village and their lord. . falls asleep on the couch: before ryusei retires from secret agent things (and they get married), sometimes tomoko will wake up and walk into her living room to find ryusei had broken into her house last night and crashed on her couch. it's all very romantic.

makes friends with the neighbors: tomoko, the weirdo goth, makes friends with all her neighbors. despite being a member of the krc as well, ryusei has issues bc he's a socially awkward dork.

is the adventurous eater: tomoko! well, if by adventurous you mean she puts natto on everything... after traveling so much for his secret agent job ryusei has an easier time eating weird cuisine.

hogs the covers at night: as soon as ryusei takes the covers in his sleep tomoko yanks them back. he has to cuddle close to her if he wants to be warm. (if he asks her one day if that was her plan all along, she'll just smile.)

forgets to do the dishes: tomoko, probably... she gets too caught up in writing or making charms or doing spells and some dishes don't even make it to the sink. ryusei scrubs dishes with caked on food while muttering angrily when he comes by every few months.

tries to surprise their partner more often: well ryusei is the one who does the surprising since she never has any idea when he'll be home, but tomoko gives ryusei creepy charms made out of dried bugs or animal parts and he never gets used to it.

leaves dirty laundry on the floor: tomoko will just leave her lounging clothes laying around, though she'll put away her brand things, at least.

stays up til 2 AM reading: ryusei doesn't get the chance to read often, but he wasn't kidding when he said he read all of tomoko's book in one sitting. he can get REALLY into books. tomoko spends more nights up late reading than he does, but she's more used to it so she can more easily put the book down.

sings in the shower: i think ryusei singing in the shower is the funniest thing

takes the selfies: tomoko. just. tomoko. she drags ryusei into selfies and he has this surprised look on 90% of them. the selfies she takes with other members of the krc are better.

plans date night: tomoko again... often bc otherwise ryusei will freak out if he has to plan it on his own. eventually she just tells him to tell her where he wants to go and she'll make arrangements.

Author's Note:

Whelp, chapter 5. So close to the end. I don't know what to say about this. Umm, like stated in the previous note in chapter 4, I've taken a different route with the TomokoxRyusei pairing that may leave some people unhappy. Nevertheless, I feel that it is also a plausible way to how things may have happened up until the events of Movie Ultimatum... and afterwards, hurhurhur. In any case, we see that Ryusei and Tomoko have moved in with each other and are literally, almost married to each other.

Some of the things that came up though, was the translation of Tomoko's book. It was a very awkward translation, especially running it through some native Japanese speakers, who thought I was writing the title... thanks guys, your faith in me means a lot...

IN ANY CASE... 夢の魔女と魔法の指輪 makes no sense to me at all. Literally translated, it turns into "Dream's Witch and the Magical Ring." If we had gone in the other way, "魔女の夢と魔法の指輪", then it would make more sense as "The Witch's Dream and the Magical Ring."

Honestly, what do?

And then a big tie-in to the events of the movie and why he's in Brazil at the start? :D

I think I started shipping them around the time we had Cygrus, because they had a pretty cute dynamic that got bonus points for how much Tomoko could affect Ryusei. That is still one of my main reasons for liking them; Ryusei very much tries to act cool and collected and a bit snobby but is still at heart a dork. A

and sometime jerk of a dork, but a dork. And Tomoko sees through this with all of her emotional intelligence, which isn’t that surprising, but the thing that is of note is she

keeps

looking. She likes what she sees and Tomoko often forces Ryusei to engage with her in a way he doesn’t with the rest of the club at first. She pokes through his walls with ease and Ryusei has no idea how to deal with that. In earlier parts its how she threatens his mask, and later on it’s simple Ryusei having no idea what to do about a girl he actually is interested in. He tries for Mr. Suave at the end of the series with that last scene, and you can see the mental highfive he’s giving himself for pulling it off. But we can also see how slow he’s being in that while yeah this was the perfect opportunity to flirt- you do it as you’re going back to your old school? You are adorable but I’m also happy for both your sakes that there is Tomoko to ask you out so it doesn’t take you another six months to work up to the first date.

I also really like the dynamic between them of how Tomoko encourages him as a hero, which we see right from his introduction. It’s only after hearing the club talking about Kamen Riders that Ryusei picks up the title, and for as much as Gentaro is Fourze and the one out there physically fighting bad guys, I think for Ryusei Tomoko also had an important hand in the concept of Kamen Rider as hero being something he really internalized Ryusei starts out the series as someone who doesn’t think about heroics, or aiding strangers, he’s focused just on Jirou. But than the club are his friends, and by the end of the series things have changed. I can picture Gentaro wanting to be a super hero at some point as a child, Ryusei wasn’t exactly that kid. But he is now, and we see that pretty perfectly in the Fourze Movie.

On Tomoko’s end, I enjoy how yeah he doesn’t get her hobbies or certain things about her, but he has a lot of respect for her. Outside of them having complimentary personalities that means she doesn’t grate on him like some friends, he does have a lot of honest respect for what she’s capable of and her skills. We see things like him being skeptical at times about her powers, but willing to give them a shot. ( With some snark in there of course, but it wouldn’t be Ryusei without it. )

Ryusei comes in after Tomoko has really grown into her own with her confidence, which is also one of the parts I like about both her character and their dynamic together. Tomoko is learning how to be comfortable with herself, how to be a confident person while still not being quite there (Her trying really hard during DC of Megamax to give the intro but having stage fright about it comes to mind), and how stuff is going with Ryusei she is defiantly the one who is going to be more sure about stuff as things go on, if not the one in the driver’s seat. And I love how Ryusei is totally fine with this. He appreciates letting her take the lead with the flirting and other stuff, even if he’s not quite sure how to react to it. But he’s getting there.

And pretty much a world where Tomoko is not the one to purpose is OOC. Because that is how things happen, and how they even like it happening, even if things could have gone a bit smoother.
