Horizon Zero Dawn - The Song of Kotakali

I am restarting this blog to work out a few kinks.

On this blog I will share my original character stories taking place within the world of Horizon Zero Dawn. I know there is a plethora of absolutely incredible fan content on Tumblr, and I am excited to share my own here.

Kotakali's story began with a nameless NPC who can actually be found in-game. Mostly in The Cut, the DLC area for The Frozen Wilds, and sometimes South of the border, she is nothing more than a nameless NPC. In the game files, her NPC model is referred to as:

Banuk_Hunter_F_09", "entities/characters/humanoids/banuk/banuk_hunter_f", "{EA8F2F83-84A5-DC41-99E3-5B68B7C860FD

Female Banuk Hunter #9. What this means is that she has no name, no identity, no lore. Only that which can be inferred from her appearance is translatable to any sort of canon.

I found her while playing and thought she looked fascinating. I decided to give her a name, something that sounded cold and Banuk. Then a narrative began to emerge in my mind. Lots of writing and storytelling, all written down.

Eventually as mods for Horizon Zero Dawn on PC became more advanced, the opportunity to expand this creativity finally came to fruition.

Thus "Horizon Zero Dawn - The Song of Kotakali" was born.

With the help of mods, I am able first to change the appearance of that character I play as. Rather than Aloy, I can swap her model to Banuk Hunter #9. From there I can do things such as detach the camera to set up any angle I want, change the weather, spawn other NPCs, change the time of day, and so on. I will record specific scenes and match them to the scripts I have written, and then take all of this into post production. From there I add music, dialogue captions, and edit the scenes together.

The result - A video series similar to something you might watch on HBO, showing Kotakali's story unfold as it comes to life on screen.

The most important aspect of this entire series is how it respects the bounds of the already-established characters and events of the Horizon games, thus it is entirely lore-friendly. Kotakali will meet characters Aloy already has and encounter places and events Aloy already has, or perhaps has yet to encounter. Since Kotakali’s story takes place during the main quest and after The Frozen Wilds have been completed, I have carefully written her tale to blend within the world and lore so that it all may come together and remain consistent with the lore.

The Song of Kotakali is complete - Nearly three hours of OC storytelling content, long enough to be a feature length film, all taking place within the world of Horizon Zero Dawn.

I am extremely proud of the way her series has turned out. It's not perfect, it doesn't have very many views, but I have absolutely fallen in love with Kotakali as a character and her tale.

Her series is composed of a Prologue and an Epilogue with six Chapters in between. I will post and explain in detail the Prologue next!
