I don’t know what the Iris Wildthyme fandom thinks of it, but I adore The Two Irises

It’s really funny (as basically all Iris Wildthyme stories are), but more importantly it’s a hilarious take on a multi-incarnation story.

The new incarnation of Iris and his relationship with Panda is just so damn funny and the twists and turns the story takes are so enjoyable even on relisten when you know what’s coming.

I love the shape language for Machete and Vasco, how angular and pointy the former is VS how round and soft the other... It's so GOOD I adore that

Thank you! I like the contrast as well, it makes them very fun to draw together. I try to keep them visually distinct while still making sure that they look harmonious and complementary next to each other.

#some more design musings that I've noticed that don't really matter but I tend to think about when drawing them:#Machete's shapes have an upward direction the ears the neck fluff and even the tip of his snout has that upturned angle #while Vasco's vibe is more loose and relaxed his huge floppy ears almost make him look like he's melting #neither of them have strong markings but the positioning of the gradients they have is very similar it's just different colors #Vasco has dark almond eyes (with what I can only describe as disney eyelashes)#his irises appear nearly black but if you shone a strong light directly on them they'd reveal a honey/amber hue #Machete's eyes are big and prominent with disproportionally small pupils #lately I've been drawing him with just the faintest salmon colored irises #but if the color scheme of the piece calls for it they can be depicted more vividly red #Machete has longer untameable fur here and there while Vasco is uniformly smooth and velvety #Machete is supposed to be the serious and inhibited half of the two but his face has a lot more expressive potential than Vasco's #it's actually kind of a struggle that I can't make Vasco emote with his ears at all those are typically a huge advantage in furry art #Vasco's body language is open and casual he takes up space confidently #Machete is usually very closed and defensive he has a habit of crossing his arms and legs and keeping his hands together and close to body #in general Vasco shouldn't be wearing anything black or red and Machete can't be seen wearing blue or gold #white is neutral territory it's usually the color of sleepwear and undershirts and as a result has a more intimate tone to it #answered #ardate

I am trying to post more magical girl content and yes I know magical march is practically over, but I am still in the mood to draw some prompts from old lists!

I have weeded the large corner bed with the peach tree. My ankle tendon is now acting up, but I am nevertheless pleased and ready to mulch and corral Constance Spry, a lady with aggressive expansionist tendencies.

And also alarmed because I appear to have absolutely stuffed that bed with peonies with no rhyme nor reason to placement, and I have no idea what color or varieties they are. I just…kept finding peonies as I pulled weeds. More, and more, and more. This is not the normal thing to find in garden beds.

#normally it’s just like…worms #snails #some echinacea #bulbs I forgot planting but that make sense where they are #usually some variety of iris because I get excited about irises and then bung them in in a hurry #having forgotten that I also have a two year old who doesn’t approve of mama ignoring him to get covered in dirt

Here's the other pumpkin I carved this year (I did it yesterday but I was too busy doing other things, like cooking the pumpkin on the stove, and didn't carve it until late).

Dracula on the front, simple bat design on the back.

#pumpkin #jack o lantern #dracula #asj post #I went by Dracula's description near the start of the book.#I didn't want to carve his nose that way but I couldn't get carving it from the back side to work. ...The shape still doesn't come across.#I was thinking about using a black wet-erase marker to color in his hair and the bat.#So that he would have light hair sometimes and dark hair other times.#But when I tested the marker on the bat I realized it blocks the light from shining through.#I also found out wet-erase markers don't erase well on porous things. So there's a tiny black mark on the bat.#There's also some reddish staining on the white part of the pumpkin because I used red marker to make the sketch.#I need to remember for next time to erase the marker after making an initial outline with my x-acto knife.#I probably should've made his eyes' sclera and eyebrows and mustache lighter but was worried about it blending in too much with his irises.#I was thinking of using my red wet-erase marker to make his irises and lips reddish but then I found out light won't shine through the ink.#...I think it looks better in-person... My camera just can't pick up on jack-o-lanterns right.#I got slightly over 1 1/3 cups of pumpkin puree out of these two. Same as last year. ...And maybe around a cup of seeds.#It was easier to cook this time because I didn't add much water. Really hard to cook off water.
